The first entail would be composed of her houses in Portalegre and should be administrated by her husband Manuel Gonçalves and after his death by her brother João Velez. The second entail would be composed of a vineyard and should be administrated by her brother Brás Velez. After the death of the assigned administrators, the succession should always continue, preferably, on a female daughter appointed by the last administrator. If any male descendant wished to became a clergyman, he would have the permission to use the entailed assets as a dowry. The Provedor of Portalegre should take account of the administration every year.

She was due to order the celebration of masses wherever she chose and she could appoint whomever she wanted to succeed in this entail. Its proprieties are composed of houses located in Lisboa and the rents of some lands.

Will chart made by João Barreiros and his wife Maria Rodrigues, in which they ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of twenty masses celebrated every year in Portalegre. The institutors named João Barreiros, their son, as first administrator. The entailed assets were to be used as a dowry for their grandson João, to be ordained a priest. After his death, the chapel would be administered by a clergyman whom he appointed or by a layman to be ordained, who must be the closest relative of the said second administrator.

She appoints her nephew Belchior Pereira to succeed her on the administration of a chapel by padre Manuel Vaz Morujo, in which she had succeeded after the death of her sister Catarina de Campos. She also establishes a new entail composed of her houses in Portalegre, with a perpetual obligation of five annual masse, and names her niece Maria Ana Pereira de Campos as first administrator with the condition that she would appoint a person to succeed her with the same conditions.

He named his daughter Maria Antónia as first administrator with the condition that she would appoint the closest relative of her bloodline, son or daughter, male or female, with the same conditions. If had no children, then the administration of the entail would be handled to the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento.

He named his brother Gaspar Martins as first administrator of the entail, with the condition that he and all his successors would apply, perpetually, 4.000 réis every year on the celebration of masses for his soul. Before his death, Gaspar would appoint an administrator to succeed him with the same conditions.

Will (extract) by which Manuel de Torres Soutomaior establishes an entail in the name of his first wife, Antónia Dinis, according to her will. He entails to it houses in Lisbon, with the obligation of a daily mass in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where she is buried. He appoints his second wife administrator of this entail, with the faculty of appointing a successor among her descendants. In the same will, Manuel de Torres Soutomaior establishes another entail and chapel for himself.

Entail foundation deed by Doutor Manuel da Fonseca Coelho giving his real estate to a perpetual entail, previously founded by his will, and ordering the foundation of a chapel of Nossa Senhora da Estrada, if he could not make it in his lifetime, with the pious obligation of a mass every saturday and in Nossa Senhora day. He also appoints Marcos da Fonseca Coelho, his brother, as his successor in the entail of capitão Marcos da Fonseca, his uncle, and in the chapel of João Vaz Coelho, his uncle too.

The derived income of the entailed properties should be spent, perpetually, on masses worth 100 réis each, all of them celebrated on the altar of Chagas, in the mother church of Crato. He named his wife Catarina Gonçalves as first administrator and after her death, the entail should be administrated, in this order, by Francisco Caldeira Carreiro, his wife Ana da Costa, and their eldest son after both of them were dead with the condition that he would appoint a successor with the same conditions, preferring the children of Manuel do Couto.

Sra. da Estrela, in Marvão. She named her husband Manuel Pires Ratinho as first administrator of the entail, during his lifetime, with the condition that he would annex and entail his own reserved portion to the entail and add five masses to the perpetual obligation of the chapel. Before his death, Manuel Pires Ratinho, would appoint an administrator to succeed him with the same conditions.

Will chart made by Maria de Arruda Coutinho in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual mass obligation of three masses celebrated every year on Christmas. She named her husband, António de Medeiros e Albuquerque as first administrator with the condition that he would appoint one of their three children to succeed him, although the three of them would administrate the entail together during their lifes. The chosen son or daughter would appoint his successor.

Will by which Isabel Rodrigues Regalo established an entail with a property in Alegrete ("tapadas do Pego da Lagem"), designating her brother, Pedro Rodrigues, to administrate it. He and his descendants were obligated to support the celebration of 30 annual masses. If he died without leaving heirs, the entail would be transmitted to his closest relative.
She bequeathed a property in Alegrete ("souto da Ribeira de Arronches") to her nephew, Manuel, with the obligation of celebrating 5 annual masses in perpetuity. That land could never be sold.
The testator left other lands ("souto de Vale Lourenço dos Pardieirinhos"; "souto do Ninho do Açor") to her nephew, Gaspar, prohibiting him of selling them. If he died without leaving descendants, they would be passed to one of his siblings.
She also donated an olive grove in Costa to Ana, her niece, on the condition that she gave, every year, olive oil to the church of S. Pedro. The property could never be sold. After her death, it would be inherited by one of her brothers.

The first would be composed of an olive grove on Alegrete's district, and would be administrated by her son José Rodrigues, with the perpetual mass obligation of one mass celebrated every year, and before his death, José should appoint one of his children to succeed him, preferably the eldest, male or female. The second entail would be composed of two vineyards in Açor with a perpetual mass obligation of six masses celebrated every year, and would be administrated by José and his sister Catarina Rodrigues, with the condition that each of them would order the celebration of three masses every year.

Francisco's convent, in Portalegre, where his body should be buried. He named his daughter Joana Martins as first administrator of the entail with the condition that she would appoint one of her children, preferably a clergyman, to succeed her on the administration with the same conditions. If Joana died without offspring, the administration should be handled to her brother padre António Pires. In the complete absence of heirs of the institutor's bloodline, the Misericórdia of Portalegre should administrate the entail.

Donation deed by which Bárbara da Veiga Fagundes, sister of Brázia da Veiga Fagundes and her last will executor, declared that her sister died and she wanted to fulfil the dispositions mentioned in her last will. In this way, Bárbara da Veiga Fagundes donated to padre Francisco Martins de Lemos half of her assets, and the other half left by Brázia da Veiga Fagundes should be used for the celebration of masses, rectifying her sister's will. The institutor left to Francisco Martins de Lemos this assets and declared that he could appoint whomever he wanted to succeed in this entail.

Will made by padre Simão Rodrigues da Costa in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of ten masses celebrated every year on the Cathedral or on the Jesuit church of Portalegre, in the chapel that should be purchased for the burial of his body. The institutor named his nephew Francisco Reixa da Costa as first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he would appoint a successor to succeed him with the same conditions, preferably one of his male children or strictly blood relatives. He also bequeathed some properties to João Marques to sustain and pay for his studies with the condition that he would became a clergyman, and, after his death, those properties should be annexed to the chapel. The institutor ordered the first administrator to register this will and the entailed properties on the Tombo record books of the Provedoria of Portalegre.

Will by which Estêvão Barreto do Amaral expresses his wish to be buried in his chapel of Nossa Senhora do Amparo. He designates his daughter, D. Luísa Madalena Sarmento, and his son-in-law, Luís de Calvos Cardoso, as his heirs and executors. He annuls the previous institution of his entail, with the third part of his deceased wife, D. Catarina de Moura, as there had been doubts and conflicts about the legitimacy of the succession and of the witnesses. He changes the clauses of succession to free appointment by his daughter, who will be the first administrator, and declares, once more, that his properties will be entailed to his chapel.

Will (extract) by which Diogo Fernandes, Leonor Fernandes' widower, bequeaths houses in Lisboa to Baltasar Fernandes, his late wife's nephew, obligating him and his descendants to celebrate an annual mass in the church of S. Nicolau of Lisboa, where his body would be buried next to his wife's remains. After the firs administrator's death, the entail should be inherited by one of his children.

Entail foundation deed of Francisco Mendes Pimentel. Entails a third of its assets to fulfill charges. He appoints Luís Coelho de Pimentel, his son, first administrator, to marry Mariana da Cunha, daughter of João Alves da Cunha Gusmão. The eldest son of this marriage was to succeed him. António de Pina Mascarenhas and D. Luísa Pimentel, his wife, nephews of the institutor, also annex assets to the entail established by their uncle, as did João Coelho de Sousa and D. Joana Luísa Coelho de Sousa, his sister, sons of the institutor.

Will made by Maria da Câmara in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual mass obligation of two chapels of masses celebrated every year in S. Francisco's convent in Ponta Delgada. She named her son padre João Borges da Câmara as first administrator of the entail, her daughter Maria de Medeiros after his death, and after Maria, her grandson João. If João died before assuming the administration, Maria de Medeiros would appoint a second born son or daughter at her choice, and from there on the succession should always be held by second born sons. If the bloodline was extinguished, the entail should be administrated by the same administrator of the entail founded by her husband Gaspar Medeiros de Sousa. She mentioned that her son Gaspar de Medeiros da Câmara would succeed on the administration of the entails administrated by his brother Duarte Borges da Câmara. She appointed her son António Borges on the administration of the entails founded by her mother Maria da Câmara and her grand-grandmother Luzia Brandoa and her grand-grandfather Bernardinho da Câmara.

Codicil made by Catarina Mendes Cordeiro, in which she ordered the foundation of an entail composed of some houses in Portalegre, over which she imposed a perpetual mass obligation of four masses celebrated every year. To administrate it she named her daughter Marta Jordoa with the condition that she would appoint an administrator to succeed her with the same conditions.

He named his nephew Gaspar Mouzinho as first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he would be chose one of his legitimate sons to succeed him, and from there on the succession should continue, preferably by appointment. No illegitimate son could ever be appointed on the administration and any administrator who married with a person of the so-called "infected races" would be deprived from the administration.

Codicil (extract) by which Maria Pereira, António Gonçalves' widow, bequeathed houses in Lisboa to her daughter, Francisca Maria Pereira, Manuel Gomes da Fonseca's wife, obligating her and her successors to support the celebration of 60 annual masses for her soul in the church of S. Pedro of Alfama. After her daughter's death, the entailed houses would be transmitted to a son or daughter of her choice. If she failed to appoint a successor before dying, the entail would be inherited by her eldest son.

Will chart of Álvaro Saraiva da Gama, ordering his grave in the convent of São Francisco of Caria. He had a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição, with a chaplain, where he leaves certain charges, such as in the Franciscan convents of Caria, Vilares and São João da Pesqueira and in the churches of São Pelágio of Vila da Rua and Espírito Santo of Carregal. He leaves three properties to fulfill the charges in the convents and churches and entails the others in a chapel, with head in Quinta do Ribeiro and in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, located on that farm. He appoints Francisco Pereira de Almeida, his nephew, executor, heir and administrator.

Will by which padre João Vivas Barba expresses his wish to be buried in his chapel of Santa Teresa in the church of S. Tiago of Castelo de Vide. He establishes an entail with his farmlands and estate and a perpetual obligation of twenty annual masses and names Doutor Pedro Vivas, abade de S. Tiago, and his sister, Maria Vivas, as first administrators. The last one alive would appoint a relative to succeed on the administration, and from there on the succession should always continue by appointment. He also annexes to this entail his two houses, of which the bigger ones had belonged to the chapel founded by his uncle, which he also bequeaths to Pedro Vivas and Maria Vivas, who shall also appoint the future administrator.

Over all these assets he imposed the clauses of perpetual indivisibility. To administrate this entail, he named his brother padre João Rodrigues Subtil, with the condition that he would appoint a successor with the same conditions.

If descendants were lacking, a recolhimento should be founded, invoking Senhora da Piedade, in the place of Mealhada, on the outskirts of Castelo de Vide.

After the death of Beatriz, the administration would be transmitted to padre Pedro Teixeira, during his lifetime, and Catarina Vaz after his death who would appoint one of her nephews, sons of António Fernandes Barreirão to succeed her with the same conditions. And from there on the succession should always continue by appointment.

Chapel foundation deed by which D. Catarina de Sampaio Borges established a chapel, entailing to it a lease in Vila Nova de Anços ("Prazo do Campo da Mata") and determining that its revenues would support the celebration of a weekly perpetual mass for Pedro Borges Pessoa's soul, wherever its administrators desired. If her husband, António de Macedo Pereira, decided to erect a chapel inside his farmstead in Coimbra ("quinta de Verride"), the annual masses should be celebrated in it. She designated her stepson, Roque de Macedo Pereira Sampaio, to administrate it. When the time came, he would be succeeded by one of his sons.
António de Macedo Pereira and Catarina de Sampaio Borges also incorporated the improvements they had made in the farmstead of Verride in the entail administrated by António and commited themselves to annex to it other properties they would buy in the next 2 years. They appointed Roque de Macedo Pereira Sampaio to administrate that entail, obligating him and his successors to celebrate 12 annual masses for their souls.
The institutors decided that the chapel and that entail should always be administrated by the same person, after Roque's death.

The administrator had the power to appoint his successor, and preference was to be given to clerics within the family. The testator requested that the celebration of mass be supervised by the "Provedores da comarca". If the administrators fail to fulfil this duty, the entail should be given to the Misericórdia.

Chapel foundation deed by Gonçalo Barbosa. The institutor had previously built a chapel dedicated to São Gonçlo, which was located in Santa Maria de Ardegão, next to the house where he was born. Gonçalo Barbosa entailed all his possessions and established the rules of the institution: the succession would be by legitimate descent, appointing the son or daughter who was considered the most obedient and capable of managing the estates. The appointment of the second administrator and successor was postponed to the time when the founder was to make his will. In the absence of relatives, the administration was to go to the S. Marcos Hospital in Braga. In the same document, his nephew, Domingos Barbosa, priest of São Julião dos Passos, also entailed to the chapel the property he had inherited from his cousin, João Barbosa, of the church of São Salvador das Almas de Vilar.

Entail and chapel foundation deed by Gonçalo de Araújo da Silva and his wife Maria de Caldas Bacelar. The couple declared that they had founded a chapel in their farmstead of Eiras, in São Salvador de Pedralva, the construction of which had not yet been completed but was to be finished, with the images of São Gonçalo and Santa Maria inside. They entailed properties and rents to the chapel, with the perpetual obligation to celebrate masses every sunday for the souls of the founders. The first administrator would be their son-in-law, Sebastião Machado de Azevedo, who had the power to appoint a relative to succeed him, excluding clerics and forbidding marriages with people of Jewish, Moorish, black or mulatto descent. The administrators were obliged to use the family name and to entail properties. The deed of foundation had to be registered in the "Livro das Capelas do Registo Geral" of Braga.

Annexation deed and appointment of an administrator for the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, in Arneirós, instituted by Gonçalo Coelho, Manuel Rodrigues Ramos, Catarina Álvares and António Coelho, administered by Manuel Luís Paiva and Antónia Álvares de Vide, his wife. Since they had neglected to administer some of the entailed assets, they entail several others to compensate for the fall in income. To fulfill the institution, they also entail a third of their assets, in a sum of more than 5 000 cruzados, and appoint Doutor Diogo Monteiro Coelho, their son, administrator. The latter, in turn, accepts the appointment and undertakes to fulfill the institution.

To administrate the entail he named, in this order, his sister Susana de Cristo, Gaspar Rodrigues Ferreira, Manuel Ferreira, the priests Brás Cardoso Ferraz and Francisco Ferraz. The testator left "um conto de réis" to be entailed. He appointed his niece Ângela da Fonseca, married to Gabriel de Araújo de Vasconcelos, as the first administrator, followed by her descendants, with the right to appoint one of her children as her successor. If she failed to do so, preference would be given to first-born sons. If they had no descendants, the entail would go to another of the founder's nieces, Mariana da Fonseca, or finally to his natural daughter, Marta da Fonseca. The administrators were obliged to use the family name and had to report to the Juízo dos Resíduos every three years on the correct celebration of the prescribed masses.

Will made by Maria Fernandes, nicknamed "a Grila", in which she ordered to be buried in the Mother Church of Amieira. She founded three entails, one for her nephew João Aires, a second for her niece Isabel Dias, and the third for her nephew Manuel Martins da Cruz, respectively with perpetual pious obligations of five, four and twenty masses celebrated every year as long as the world lasted. The first two entails are composed of houses, vineyards and olive groves in Amieira, and the last one is composed of movable and immovable goods. Each one of those first appointed administrators would be succeeded by a son or daughter of their own choice, or by a close relative if they have none, and from there on the succession should always continue through appointment.

Will made in Portalegre by Manuel Lopes Tavares in which he expressed his wish to be buried in the church of S. Francisco and established an entail and chapel, composed of all the remaining assets of his own reserved portion, consisting of his properties of Água da Prata and an olive grove, with a perpetual obligation of thirty annual masses. To administrate it he named his daughter Maria Tavares during her lifetime, and, before her death, she would appoint one of her children or a relative of the institutor's lineage to succeed her with the same conditions.

Will by which Francisco Serrão de Almeida established an entail, appointing his wife Ana de Lencastre to be its first administrator. His godson Manuel is obligated to became a priest and to celebrate masses in the Ermida do Glorioso Mártir de São Vicente, in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Porta do Céu, Telheiras. This entail is composed of a farm in Telheiras and houses located in Lisboa.

Will by which Jerónimo de Abreu do Vale orders his burial in the church of S. Sebastião of Ponta Delgada and establishes two chapels with the profit of his houses'. He designates D. Joana Tavares, his wife, as his executor and heir, with the capacity of appointing in her will the chapels' administrator. Jerónimo de Abreu do Vale also bequeaths to his wife the vineyards entailed to the chapels of D. Vitória da Cunha, his first wife, Isabel da Cunha, his sister-in-law, Valentim da Cunha, his brother-in-law, and Maria da Cunha, his sister-in-law. His wife, D. Joana Tavares, is free to sell these entailed assets with their pious obligations.

Julião do Tojal. He requests his wife to entail the farmlands in Lisboa which they both inherited from D. Paula da Silva with an obligation of six weekly masses in the church of the convent of Madre de Deus de Lisboa, where he wishes to be buried. He also requests her to entail these properties to the chapel of her grandmother, if the ones entailed aren't enough to fulfill the obligations. After her death, they shall be inherited by one of their children. If she has no successors, they shall pass to the heirs of his entail.

Will (extract) by which Domingos Correia and Isabel Antunes, his wife, establish a chapel in the church of S. João Batista of Lumiar, to which they entail houses located on Paço do Lumiar, Lisboa. That property, which was included in their dowry, was given to them by Ana Vicente, Isabel's mother, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 6 annual masses for her soul. They determine that, after their deaths, the entail should be administrated by Brígida Moreira, daughter of Maria Álvares, Isabel's cousin, and transmitted to her descendants. The future administrators of the entail are obligated to celebrate 50 annual masses for the institutor's souls in that church.
