Scope and content

Carta de remissão do encargo pio by Martinho Aliphero, from the vestry board of Saint Peter's Basilica, exempting and absolving Rui de Melo da Silva, administrator of the entail founded by Luís de Melo da Silva, from all the masses not celebrated until then by his predecessor, Luís de Melo da Silva, first administrator, and from the alms which were not bequeathed to the twelve poor knights and soldiers. In fact, Rui de Melo da Silva is perpetually exempt from this pious obligation. However, he has to order the celebration of the daily mass, according to the agreement made by Luís de Melo da Silva with the friars of S. Francisco de Xabregas, reducing the amount payed for those masses. Rui de Melo da Silva payed 100 escudos of Roman money for this letter.
This document was translated from Latin to Portuguese in Lisbon, in 1631-05-05.

Note

Document inserted in a certificate of João Rebelo da Costa, notary of Tomada de Contas de Encargos Pios in comarca of Lisbon, by request of conde de S. Lourenço, the entail's administrator, 1862-06-30, in TT-GCL-RV-101-224-236.
