Scope and content
Codicil to the will of D. Luís de Sousa, arcebispo de Lisboa, cardeal da Igreja Romana, do Conselho de Estado do Rei and his capelão-mor, by which he annexes to the entail he had established in his will the properties he now possessed as cardeal. He also nullifies a previous donation he had made to his nephew, the príncipe senescal de Ligne and marquês de Arronches, because it would empoverish his entail. He establishes that the possessions he had previously donated to him should, instead, be annexed to his entail, and be inherited by its successors. He also establishes that the administrators of his entail shall give six pitchers of olive oil to keep two lamps lit in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in the cloister of the cathedral of Lisboa.
Followed by approval deed, dated 1700-07-01; opening deed, dated 1702-01-03; and another codicil, dated 1701-12-27. In this codicil, the institutor ratifies his institution and clarifies that, if there are no male successors to the entail of the marquês de Arronches, his own entail should pass to D. Luís Casimira, daughter of the current marquesa de Arronches, or to one of her sisters.
