Scope and content
Dowry deed through which D. Helena de Almada, Doutor Vicente Caldeira de Brito's widow, Desembargador do Paço, donates her farmstead (quinta) of Boca da Lapa, in Via Longa, with the pious obligation of celebrating masses in the church of the convent of S. Domingos, to her cousin, D. Beatriz de Freitas, for her marriage to Jerónimo de Brito Caldeira, Helena's stepson. The couple was equally obligated to pay an annual pension to the donator's sisters, Madre Tomásia da Ressurreição, Madre Brígida da Cruz and Madre Bárbara Baptista, nuns in the convent of Chelas, as long as they lived. During Helena's lifetime, the revenues extracted from the farmstead belonged exclusively to her.
D. Mécia Couto, Gaspar Leitão da Fonseca's widow, donates a public debt instrument of 37 000 réis to D. Beatriz de Freitas, whose revenues would belong to her and her niece, D. Maria de Melo, during their lifetimes. After the death of the last one, D. Beatriz de Freitas was obligated to pay an annual pension to Madre Catarina da Piedade, nun in the convent of S. Ana, during her lifetime. Following Catarina's death, D. Beatriz had the obligation of supporting the celebration of annual masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. The public debt instrument should be inherited by D. Beatriz and Jerónimo's descendants.
Jerónimo de Brito Caldeira accepted this donation and its clauses and promised he would give up any legal action he had prepared against Helena, regarding the partition of his father's patrimony.
