Codicil

Codicil made by Beatriz Lopes, in which she confirmed the foundation of an entail, but changed one of the clauses of the succession, and therefore naming her husband as first administrator for only three years and then her sister Maria Lopes for four years, alternating between them.

Will (fragment)

Will made by Beatriz Lopes, in which she ordered the foundation of an entail, composed of properties in Porto Martins, Terceira island, with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass and an yearly mass in All Soul's day, celebrated in the church of Santa Cruz, in Vila da Praia. She named her husband Manuel de Barcelos as first administrator, with the condition that he should marry their daughter Catarina. If Catarina ever married, she should inherit the entail, and, if not, the administration should be given to their son Luís. The administrator should appoint one of his children to administrate the entail, and if none of them had children, the administration should be transmitted to one of her nephews, sons of Maria Lopes, except the eldest, who was entitled to the entail founded by her grandparents.
