Dowry deed

Dowry deed regarding the marriage between Francisco Álvares Tinoco and Assunção Carneiro Meira. Among other things, Estêvão Fernandes Carneiro, father of Assunção and acting as his wife Isabel Meira's attorney, donated to Francisco the rents and administration of the chapel instituted by Catarina Colaço.

Juízo dos Resíduos record of the entail instituted by Catarina Colaço. In the presence of the Resíduos' clerk, Jerónimo Álvares Tinoco, son of the last administrator Francisco Álvares Tinoco, presents several documents.
Contains descriptions of documents such as deeds of sales and notably an "Carta de arrematação" (1687-02-21, fls.15v-16) by which Jerónimo Álvares Tinoco, acting as tutor of his brother António Carneiro Tinoco, appointed as successor in the chapel by their father, bought a property to the entail that used to belong to António Pinto Portocarreiro. This estate was the subject of a conflict between this individual and the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Pópulo in Braga.

Will (extract) of Francisco Álvares Tinoco, in which the testator declares that the remaining assets of his "terça" were to be entailed into a chapel previously instituted by Catarina Colaço of Viana. The entail was to be held by Francisco's legitimate descendants, with preference given to first-born sons, but with the possibility of female succession in the absence of males. The administrators were obliged to use the surname of Tinoco and to ensure the perpetual celebration of 20 masses each year.
