Codicil

Codicil made by Violante Dias, widow of Manuel Martins Barriga, in which she ordered the foundation of three entails. The first entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of four masses celebrated every year and would be administrated by her nephew capitão João de Matos, during his lifetime, and, after his death, he would appoint one of his children to succeed him, or, if he had none, the administration would be handled to the closest relative of the institutor's lineage. This entail is composed of half of a vineyard in Vale de Fernão Calvo, Castelo Branco. The second entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of four masses celebrated every year and would be administrated by her niece Beatriz Gomes, during her lifetime, and, after her death, she would appoint one of her children to succeed her, or, if she had none, the administration would be handled to the closest relative of the institutor's lineage. This entail is composed of another half of the vineyard in Vale de Fernão Calvo, Castelo Branco. The third entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of four masses celebrated every year and would be administrated by Isabel Dias, sister of the institutor, during her lifetime, and, after her death, she would be succeeded by her son padre Manuel D'Alva, who would administrate it during his lifetime, and, before his death, he would appoint one of his siblings to succeed him with the same conditions above, appointing one chield on the succession. This entail is composed of a"fazenda" in Portalegre, and houses and lands in Castelo de Vide and on its outskirts.

[The codicil is preceded by a will made in common hand with her husband Manuel Martins Barriga in 1639-12-01, in which they ordered the foundation of a chapel that would be administrated by the Confraria das Almas].
