Deed of sale

Deed of sale by which Francisco da Ponte Vale, cavaleiro do hábito de Cristo, and his wife, D. Filipa Teresa da Silva, administrators of the chapel established by Catarina Freire in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, buy from themselves properties which belonged to Francisco da Ponte Vale in Machoa, Mourisca de Cima, Mourisca de Baixo and Esgueira, with the revenue from the selling of houses in Mouraria, Lisboa. These houses had been previously entailed to the chapel, but had been sold in public auction, according to the institutor's will, because they were foreiras, and entail them to the chapel.
Mentions a partition deed dated 1686-08-07, and the inventory of Catarina Caiada, Francisco's mother, and a certificate of the payment of the sisas of this sale; it contains, a petition, a termo, a letter-of-attorney and a certificate of possession dated 1[7]00-10-27, which confirms that Francisco da Ponte Vale bought from himself the properties he entailed to the chapel.
Followed by a sentence dated from the same day, by which these properties are considered entailed to the chapel established by Catarina Freire.

These houses had been entailed to the chapel but were sold, because they were foreiras and in a state of ruin, be employed in properties that belong to him, to be entailed to the chapel in place of the houses. Followed by an undated tombo listing the properties belonging to Francisco da Ponte Vale.

Will (extract) by which Catarina Freire appoints her husband, João Lopes, as her universal heir. She orders him to entail part of her properties to a chapel in a monastery of his choosing, with the obligation of a daily mass. She authorizes him to sell these properties, if they are foreiras, to buy new ones to entail to the chapel. After her husband's death, these properties shall be bequeathed to her closest relative, with the exception of her brother, André Fernandes, who she has disowned.
