Will (extract)

Will (extract) made by Isabel Correia Tavares, in which she ordered the foundation of a chapel composed of a farm named Camorro, half of her lands in Ponta Verde and twenty five enslaved persons, over which she imposed a perpetual pious obligation of two sung masses and twelve other masses celebrated in every year. To administrate it, she named her nephew Fernando Vaz de Sequeira and his legitimate heirs and descendants after him, or, if he had none, the administration would be handled to João Gomes Tavares or his brother António Fernandes Tavares. The institutor disposed that if any of the entailed slaves died, they should be replaced for another one, in order to always maintain twenty five serving on the chapel.
