Catarina da Rocha entail

Will chart

Will chart by which D. Catarina da Rocha, Baltasar da Silva's wife, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, entailing part of her patrimony. She asks the executors of her will to buy the chapel of S. Jorge of that convent, where she and her husband should be buried. The institutor appoints the latter to be the entail's first administrator, obligating him to celebrate annual masses for her soul, to spend part of its annual revenues sustaining the ransom of captives and in the marriage of orphan girls. Baltasar da Silva should be succeeded by Diogo Lopes da Rocha, her brother. After his death, the entail would be administrated by the prior of that convent.
Catarina da Rocha also declares that if the executors choose not to establish a chapel in that convent, they could use part of her assets to found a college dedicated to the study of arts and theology. There, it would be instituted a chapel, where her remains would rest and masses should be celebrated for her soul. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1615-02-28.
