Certificate

Certificate, issued at the request of Diogo de Abreu, in which the prior and priests of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa attest to the existence of a chapel within the convent established by Duarte de Abreu and Beatriz Teixeira. Additionally, they declare that they hold a public debt instrument of 20 000 réis at the Alfândega de Lisboa, which belongs to Frei Lopo de Abreu, a member of their religious order.

Will (extract)

Will (extract) in which Beatriz Teixeira establishes two weekly masses and other pious charges in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa, reinforcing the wishes expressed by her late husband Duarte de Abreu in his own will. The couple had wished to entail the casal de Loures to these obligations, but the property was being subjected to a court dispute. If the testator won the plea, her son Miguel de Abreu would inherit the property along with its pious obligations. If she lost, she would transfer these obligations to a public debt instrument of 20 000 réis that she held at the Alfândega de Lisboa, which had belonged to her late son António de Abreu. In this eventuality, her daughter Ana de Abreu would be the administrator.
Beatriz Teixeira also bequeaths a public debt instrument to the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Lisboa to fulfil pious obligations for her soul and for her husband’s soul, while reserving the right of usufruct to her son, Frei Bartolomeu de Santo Agostinho, for the duration of his life.
