Donation deed

Donation deed in which Isabel Ribeiro appoints her son Brás Ribeiro to succeed in the entail founded by her late husband, Pedro Afonso, with all the conditions and pious charges established. The entail is composed of houses and an income of 2 000 réis. After the death of her son, the entail should be administered by a son or daughter he appoints and after that it should pass to the eldest sons or eventually to the eldest daughters, always being transmitted to the closest member of the family. If his generation comes to an end, the houses and their income must be delivered to the priests of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa.
Isabel Ribeiro also donates to her son the remaining part of her husband’s third that he left her.
Brás Ribeiro accepts and demands four copies of this deed.

Will (extract)

Will (extract) in which Pedro Afonso entails pious charges in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa to his houses near the sea and their income of 2 000 réis. These houses belong to the third of his assets and whoever owns them could not divide or sell them and would always have to fulfil the pious obligations. The testator bequeaths these properties and the remaining part of his third to his wife, Isabel Ribeiro. She must fulfil all or only part of the pious charges during her life and should appoint someone she wishes to succeed. Isabel Ribeiro could also join her third, establish more pious charges, leaving them to whoever she wished, without their children being able to contest.
