Chapel foundation deed (extract)

Chapel foundation deed (extract) trough which João Machado asks his cousin, António Machado, to use the sum of money he had inherited to institute a chapel in Portugal in his honour and for the souls in Purgatory.

Contract and bond deed

Contract and bond deed between António Machado (o moço), homem de negócio, and the brotherhood of Santíssimo Sacramento of the church of S. Nicolau, by which the former, on behalf of his cousin, João Machado, homem de negócio em Goa, donates to its members 1 conto de réis, which are henceforth obligated to celebrate a daily mass, in that church, for his soul. The brotherhood commits itself to fulfil those pious obligations and to give, each year, 40 000 réis to the chaplain responsible for the celebration of the masses. The chapel's institutor determines that as long as he, his brothers, Paulo Machado and Inácio Machado, his nephews or their sons live in Portugal, they have the privilege to appoint the chaplain.
