Carta testemunhável

Carta testemunhável of the will chart and codicil of doutor João Leão, físico do rei, issued at the request of his son, Vicente Leão.

João Leão, Maria Gil entail

Will

Will made by Duarte Leão in a letter written before the battle of Alcântara to one of his siblings, whom he appoints as his executor. He lists his debts and wishes and declares that he wants to bequeath his entail, consisting of houses in Lisboa with the obligation of ordering masses in S. Francisco, to his sister, D. Leonor, instead of his brother, Vicente Leão, since she is older and he considers it more profitable to the entail.

Will chart

Will chart by which the licenciado João Leão expresses his wish to be buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, in the tomb of his wife, Maria Gil, who died in 1563-06-03. He bequeaths his son, Duarte Leão, his houses in Lisboa, and the houses which belonged to his wife, according to her codicil, with an obligation of three annual masses: two for his and his wife's soul, in their burial place, and the third one for the soul of his father, mestre Jorge Leão, in the convent of S. Francisco of Xabregas, where he is buried. Jorge Leão died in 1553-12-14. If his son refuses these obligations, the houses shall be given to his brother, Vicente Leão. His heirs must also order an annual mass for the soul of his first wife, D. Francisca de Noronha, and another one for the soul of Maria Fernandes Henriques, in the monasteries of Nossa Senhora do Carmo and of Nossa Senhora da Graça, where they are respectively buried.
Followed by approval deed, opening deed of the will, dated 1569-03-25, and codicil of the institutor, which doesn't refer the chapels, dated 1569-01-18.
