Acquisition letter

Acquisition letter by which Francisco da Costa, mercador de livros, bought from D. Madalena Nogueira, D. Luísa Nogueira and Paulo Teixeira de Macedo, Rodrigo de Resende Nogueira's sisters and nephew, rents (foros) in Telheiras appraised at 52 340 réis for 942 120 réis. The buyer intended to entail part of them (9 000 réis) to Belchior Pereira's chapel, which he administrated at that time. Rodrigo de Resende Nogueira approved this sale. Contains copies of letters of possession, letters of attorney, a partition deed, two royal sentences and petitions.

Codicil by which Isabel Monteiro, Francisco da Costa's wife, designates her husband to administrate the chapel her late husband, Belchior Pereira, asked her to institute for his soul. She orders him to buy a public debt instrument or a property and to use its revenues to support the celebration of 50 annual masses for Belchior Pereira's soul. Francisco da Costa is free to appoint whoever he chooses to administrate the entail after his death.

Court sentence validating a bond made by the officials of the brotherhood of Santíssimo Sacramento of the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa and attesting the attachment of rents (foros) appraised at 52 340 réis to the chapel established by Francisco da Costa, which was administrated by that brotherhood. Part of that sum of money (9 000 réis) was also linked to Belchior Pereira's chapel. The judge ordered the making of a tombo of the entailed properties.

The latter is free to order the celebration of masses for the institutor's soul wherever he wants.

Will (extract) by which Francisco da Costa bequeaths his rents (foros) of 50 000 réis to the brotherhood of Santíssimo Sacramento of the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, obligating its members to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for his soul and for the soul of his wife, Isabel Monteiro. Part of those rents (9 000 réis) would also be used to assure the celebration of annual masses for Belchior Pereira's soul.
