The masses had been paid while Maria Alves was in possession of the entailed properties, however they were currently in the hands of Francisco da Rocha, son of Antónia Martins, Bárbara Fernandes's niece and heir, who hadn't paid the last three years of alms. Bárbara Fernandes is said to have been deceased for about nine years.

She always paid the obligations while she was in possession of the store, but she didn't have the will of the deceased, since it was in the hands of her executor, who was absent in Angola.
