Will (extract)

Will (extract) by which João Gonçalves bequeathed houses in Rua da Pelada, Lisboa, to Margarida Gonçalves, his niece, obligating her to spend, every year, 5 000 réis in the celebration of annual masses in the church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, where his body would be buried. The brotherhood of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires had to guarantee that the pious obligations would be duly fulfilled. These houses would always be linked to that pious charge, even if they were sold or transmitted to someone else. Until Margarida married, the houses would be owned by her mother.
It is declared that those assets had been given to the testator by his late wife, who asked him to leave them to his niece.
