Annexation deed

Annexation deed by which Francisco Barreto de Meneses, fidalgo da casa real and prior of the Church of Santa Maria do Casal, Bispado de Coimbra, declared that he wanted to incorporate the farm of "Paredes", on the outskirts of Ponte da Barca, into the chapel of "Barretos", founded by his grandparents Francisco Magalhães de Meneses and his wife D. Leonor Pereira. If his brother Bento da Silva de Meneses did not have children, it should succeed the eldest son of one of his cousins Constantino de Magalhães de Meneses or Alexandre de Magalhães de Meneses. The successors were obligated to order the celebration of masses for his, his parents, grandparents and brother's soul, and to contract a chaplain for this chapel.

Certificate of a will

Certificate of a will made by Filipe Barreto Sernige issued by João da Guerra, escrivão do Juízo do Cível in Lisboa.

Leonor Pereira entail

Will

Will by which Filipe Barreto Sernige expresses his wish to be buried in the church of the parish of Anjos, Lisboa, where his parents are buried, and appoints heirs to the three entails he administers.
He designates his sister, D. Maria da Cunha, nun in Santa Clara, and her closest relative afterwards, as heir of the entail of Barretos, which he inherited from his grandmother, D. Inês Barreto. He annexes to this entail revenue from his houses in the parish of Anjos, Lisboa, in compensation for a debt he owed to it.
He declares he gained possession of the entail of Serniges, with head in their chapel of Sá, in Ílhavo, through a sentence in his favour against the mordomos of the confraria of that church. As the entail is of appointment among the descendants of the founder, he appoints as next administrator his nephew, Cristóvão de Lafetá, great-grandson of D. Jerónima de Sernige, sister of the institutor, or his brother, Pedro de Lafetá. If they both die before him, he appoints Vasco Martins de Sousa Chichorro, who is great-grandson of Tristão de Sernige.
He appoints Pedro da Cunha Pereira and his heirs as administrators of the entail of quinta da Ribeira, in Almada, which he inherited from his mother, with the obligation of an annual mass in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He annexes to it the houses where he lives.
Followed by the approval deed and the opening deed of the will, dated 1658-05-23.

Will

Will by which D. Leonor Pereira, Francisco de Magalhães' widow, entailed the third part of her assets, including lands in Regalados ("casal do Barreiro"), to her chapel in the church of S. Jerónimo of Ponte da Barca, where her body would be buried alongside her husband's remains. She appointed her two sons, António Barreto and Jerónimo Barreto, to administrate the chapel, declaring that they could agree which one of them should become its sole administrator. If they chose to administrate it together, only a son of one of them could inherit the entail. The institutor determined that the chapel's future administrators had to support the celebration of 2 weekly masses for her soul and for her husband's soul. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1567-05-12 and a letter of quittance issued on 1572-06-30.
