Bond

Bond by which the friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça declared that João Gonçalves de Ataíde had given them, in his will, 40 000 réis to buy a property, determining that its revenues had to support the celebration of a weekly mass, every Saturday, for his soul. The friars bought a property (casal) in Monte Lavar, located on the outskirts of Sintra, for 100 000 réis, which they associated to that perpetual pious obligation. If the masses were not celebrated as ordered, the heirs and successors of the deceased were entitled to take possession of part of that property and to give it to another church or convent. The executor of the will of João Gonçalves de Ataíde, who was also his brother, João Gonçalves da Câmara, Capitão da Ilha da Madeira, paid the promised amount of money to the convent.
