Will chart

Will chart made by Maria Velha de Melo in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of three masses celebrated every year by Christmas Eve on the hermitage of N. Sra. do Desterro and a chapel of masses, with a perpetual weekly mass, in the chapel of S. André founded by her father, Cristóvão Vaz Velho, in Santa Maria island. Her body should be buried, however, in the chapel of S. Vicente, in the church of S. Miguel Arcanjo of Vila Franca do Campo. She named her son Simão de Sousa Raposo, priest, to administrate the entail during his lifetime, and after his death the administration should be given to her nephew Francisco de Arruda, also priest. After the death of Francisco, the administration should be given to his brother João de Arruda, who would be succeeded by one of his children, appointed by him before his death.
