Exemplification of a will chart

Exemplification of a will chart made by Guiomar de Sampaio. It was issued at the request of Frei António de Chelas, prior of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça.

Guiomar de Sampaio entail

Will

Will by which Guiomar de Sampaio, widow of Pedro de Albuquerque, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, ordered the friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça to celebrate 4 annual masses for her soul in perpetuity. Those pious obligations would be supported with the revenues of a farmstead she owned in the outskirts of Lisboa ("quinta de Santa Catarina de Ribamar"). She designated her son, Jorge de Albuquerque, to administrate that entail, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of the masses. After her son's death, the entail would be transmitted to one of his children. She determined that her body had to be buried in that convent, in the chapel where her husband lied.

Sampaio, Guiomar de (d.1498)

Will chart

Will chart by which D. Guiomar de Sampaio determined that her body would be buried next to the remains of her husband in the chapel of the cabido of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça. She altered a clause of her previous will, bequeathing her farmstead in the outskirts of Lisboa ("Santa Catarina de Ribamar") to that convent, on the condition that its friars would celebrate annual masses for her soul and for the soul of her husband. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1498-07-03, an opening deed issued on 1498-07-16 and an inquisitio.
