Chapel foundation deed

Chapel foundation deed of the chapel of Santa Maria Madalena, instituted by D. Joana de Sá, in the church of the College of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Coimbra. The chapel was purchased for 100 000 réis and the institutor undertakes to give, annually, 25 000 réis of interest to the college, to fulfill the charges and 2 000 to the chapel's building, entailing assets that provide these income. Both the foundress and her family were to be buried in the chapel. The college is prohibited from asking for a reduction in the charges and the institutor undertakes to decorate the chapel and buy all the necessary utensils.
It contains a letter of attorney of D. Joana de Sá to Manuel Fernandes (dated 1622-11-11), and a license granted by Frei Estevão de Santa Ana, provincial of the Order of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, for the institution of the chapel (dated 1622- 11-09). Following two consent deeds (dated 1622-11-13) by which D. Joana de Sá and D. Mécia de Carvalho da Silveira, her mother, agreed with the terms of the contract.

Letter of quittance

Letter of quittance to D. Ângela Pereira de Sá, administrator of the chapel of Santa Maria Madalena, in Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Coimbra, founded by D. Joana de Sá Sottomayor, her aunt, by the friars of this colégio, acquiting her from her obligations and confirming that she fulfiled all her aunt's orders, inserted in her will. D. Ângela Pereira de Sá also bind some assets and revenues to pay the mass celebration until the friars by a public debt instrument with 25.000 réis. D. Ângela Pereira de Sá was represented by her attoney-in-law, Doutor Matias Álvares Mourão.
