Administration letter

Administration letter of Catarina Fernandes Moutosa's chapel, located in the church of Espírito Santo, district of Portalegre, to Manuel da Costa.

Costa, Manuel da (flor.1664-1666)

Codicil

Codicil made by Catarina Fernandes Moutosa in which she confirmed the foundation of the two entails but changed the succession clauses of the first one of them, naming her sister Maria Freire as first administrator, instead of Francisco Nunes, with the condition that if her brother António returned to Portugal he would receive the entailed properties, but without any pious obligations. She also disposed that on the second entail, her husband would be succeeded by a daughter of one person she instructed him in secret, who would administrate it during her lifetime, and, after her death, she would be succeded by Manuel Veles, and from there on the succession should continue by election of the Vigário-Geral as she disposed.

Denunciation warrant of administration

Denunciation warrant of administration on behalf of Manuel da Costa allowing him to judicially demand, at his own expenses, the administration of the chapel founded by Catarina Fernandes Moutosa in the church of Espírito Santo, district of Portalegre, after denouncing its vacancy and during his lifetime only. The desembargadores do Paço should issue the respective administration letter, after presentation of this warrant and the sentence proving its vacancy to the Crown.

Will

Will made in Portalegre by Catarina Fernandes Moutosa, in which she ordered the foundation of two entails. The first entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of eight masses celebrated every year on the church of Espírito Santo, naming Francisco Nunes to administrate it during his lifetime and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on his eldest male heirs. The second entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of one mass celebrated every year on the church of Espírito Santo, naming her husband Matias Durão as first administrator during his lifetime, and, after his death, the administrator, who would also be the chaplain, would be elected by Vigário-Geral of the Bispado.
