Acórdão em relação

Acórdão em relação judging a royal provision which gave the administration of the chapel of S. Vicente to Diogo Velez de Castelo Branco as unfounded, since he was an illegitimate son of Lopo Álvares de Velez, and determining that the chapel was vacant. It was believed that in 1537 Lopo Álvares had presented fake documents to Francisco Fernandes, when he was called to give the chapel's institution to the Provedor (VINC003837 EPDE EA/006a).

Administration letter

Administration letter of Domingas Eanes' chapel, located in Aveiro, to Rui Galego, in substitution of Afonso Vicente, previous administrator, dismissed for bad administration. It is declared that the chapel's institutor, widow of Vasco Pires, ordered in her will that every day of S. Vicente a mass had to be celebrated for her soul and for the soul of her husband. The pious obligation would be fulfilled with the revenues of a saltern ("marinha do Arneiro"). She gave the chapel's administration to Estêvão Pires, beneficiado na igreja de Aveiro, who subsequently transmitted it to one of his children.

Galego, Rui (flor.1448)

Administration letter

Administration letter given to Lopo Álvares, Escudeiro da Casa do Rei, granting him the administration of the chapel of S. Vicente of the church of S. Miguel of Aveiro. It had been taken from him since he had been unable to fulfil all of its pious obligations. After it was discovered that part of the entailed assets were damaged or had been sold, Lopo Álvares was reinstated in the chapel's administration and the annual masses were reduced to 130.

Álvares, Lopo (d.1543)

Court sentence

Court sentence by which Francisco Fernandes, Corregedor com alçada, Provedor e Contador dos Resíduos na Comarca e Almoxarifado de Aveiro, recognized that Lopo Álvares demonstrated that he was the rightful administrator of the chapel of S. Vicente of the church of S. Miguel of Aveiro and that he had ordered the making of a tombo of the entailed assets. The chapel's administrator had, thus, acted according to another court sentence issued by the judge on 1534-03-17.

Álvares, Lopo (d.1543)

Court sentence

Court sentence by which the Corregedor and Provedor Duarte Lopes recognized that Manuel Lopes, Lopo Álvares' son, was entitled to succeed his late father in the administration of the chapel of S. Vicente and could take possession of the entailed assets. The judge ordered that an extract of Lopo Álvares' will had to be copied to the Tombo da Provedoria.

Grace warrant

This decision was made with the advice of Doutor Tomé Pinheiro da Veiga.

Will (extract)

Will (extract) by which Lopo Álvares entailed houses and properties in Aveiro to the chapel of S. Vicente, which he administrated, ordering his successors to use its revenues to support the celebration of 30 annual masses for his soul. A list of those assets should be added to the tombo of the chapel. He designated Manuel Lopes, his eldest son, to succeed him in the entail's administration. The will was approved on 1543-03-02.

Álvares, Lopo (d.1543)

Will (extract)

Will (extract) by which Lopo Álvares Velez appointed his son, Diogo, whose mother was Francisca Dias, to become his universal heir. Diogo would be the next administrator of the chapel of S. Vicente of the church of S. Miguel of Aveiro. The testator confirmed the entailment of properties to that chapel made by his grandfather, Lopo Álvares, and determined that the entail's administration should preferably be delivered to the eldest son of his successors. He left a rent (foro) of 2 000 réis and 2 capons to his sister, Joana Ferreira, which was paid by a castilian who resided in Aveiro. After her death it had to be entailed to the chapel. His body would be buried in the chapel of S. Vicente, where his parents lied.
