Acórdão em relação (transcription)

Acórdão em relação (transcription) judging D. Maria de Lencastre as the rightful successor of the entail of João Gomes da Silva, since she was the daughter of the penultimate administrator, João Gomes da Silva, the sister of Luís da Silva, the last administrator, and the entail was not of agnatic succession, as Fernando Teles de Meneses, plaintiff and D. Maria's uncle, argued.
It is mentioned that João Gomes da Silva founded an entail through his will and left it to his only son, Luís da Silva, declaring that its succession should respect the clauses determined by Rui Teles, his grandfather, when he instituted the entail which was eventually inherited by João's father, Brás Teles. Luís da Silva inherited that entail and the patronage of the monastery of Chagas of Lamego.

Contract and bond deed

Contract and bond deed between the friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa and Luís da Silva, son of João Gomes da Silva, who had been Vedor da Fazenda do Rei and membro do Conselho Régio, by which they gave to him the convent's sacristy, where a family mausoleum should be erected to receive the bodies of his parents and of the future administrators of the entail established by his father. The friars also committed themselves to celebrate a perpetual daily mass in that chapel. Luís da Silva, in turn, donated a public debt instrument of 50 000 réis and 200 cruzados to that convent, with the purpose of supporting the celebration of masses and to guarantee the future improvement of the sacristy.

Will (extract)

Will (extract) by which João Gomes da Silva, D. Maria de Távora's husband, orders his son, Luís da Silva, successor of his entail, to use the revenues of a vineyard to support the celebration of a perpetual daily mass in the hermitage of the quinta de Palhavã, in Lisboa. He also asks him and the future administrators of his entail to celebrate, each year, a daily mass for his soul in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of that city.
