Court proceedings (partial)

Court proceedings regarding the succession of the entail of António de Teive and Melícia de Góis, in the farmstead of Vale de Galegos.

Coimbra, Jerónimo da Cunha de (flor.1656-1675)

Court sentence (transcription)

Court sentence judging the division of the assets of the entail founded by António de Teive, Melícia de Góis, his wife, and Jerónimo de Coimbra as a dowry to their son, Jerónimo de Teive, and niece, Joana de Sousa, respectively. António de Teive and Melícia Góis entailed their farmstead of Vale de Galegos and Jerónimo de Coimbra entailed 14.000 cruzados, with the obligation to use both family names of Teive and Coimbra by the administrator. Since there is nobody with both family names, it judged Jerónimo da Cunha de Coimbra, opponent, as the owner of the 14.000 cruzados of Jerónimo de Coimbra, because he is a Coimbra and is the closest relative of the last administrator, António de Teive, by the bloodline of Jerónimo de Coimbra, institutor. It also judged António de Sousa Coutinho, opponent, as the rightful successor of the entail of António de Teive and Melícia de Góis, because he is the closest relative of the last administrator, António de Teive, by the bloodline of Teive. It condemns D. Isabel Coutinho, defendant, to relinquish the income of the 14.000 cruzados to Jerónimo da Cunha de Coimbra, and the entail, with its income since the undue occupation until its return, to António de Sousa Coutinho.
