Codicil

Codicil made in Alpalhão by Maria Ferreira, mulher devota, in which she ordered the foundation of six entails. The first entail would be composed of two lands, one in Nisa and the other in Gáfete, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of five masses celebrated every year, and to administrate it she named her nephew Manuel during his lifetime, and, after his death, he would choose an eldest son or daughter to succeed him with the same conditions. The second entail would be composed of some lands in the outskirts of Alpalhão, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of three masses celebrated every year, and to administrate it she named her niece Maria Inchada during her lifetime, and, after her death, she would choose an eldest son or daughter to succeed her with the same conditions. The third entail would be composed of lands in the outskirts of Crato, Alfragil, Nisa and Figueiró, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of five masses celebrated every year, and to administrate it she named her nephew Pedro Inchado with the condition that he and all his successors would appoint a son or daughter to succeed on the administration. The fourth entail would be composed of some houses in the outskirts of Alpalhão over which the institutor imposed a perpetual mass obligation of two masses celebrated every year on saturdays of the Virgin Mary, and to administrate it she named her nephew Manuel Dias Jordão, with the condition that he would appoint one of his children or relatives to succeed him with the same conditions. The fifth entail would be composed of a house and a land in Alpalhão, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of one mass celebrated every year, and to administrate it she named her great-niece Beatriz with the condition that she would appoint one of her children or relatives to succeed her with the same conditions. The sixth entail would be composed of some lands in Santarém, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of five masses celebrated every year, and to administrate it she named her sister Beatriz Henriques during her lifetime, with the condition that she would appoint one of her children or relatives to succeed her on the administration.
