Will

Will made by Maria Velez Tavares in which she expressed her wish to be buried in the cathedral of Portalegre. He ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of five masses celebrated every year. The institutor named padre André da Costa as first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, she ordered that some other properties bequeathed by her aunt Branca de Carvalho should be added to the entail, after that the pious obligations would be increased from five to twenty masses celebrated every year. After the death of padre André da Costa, he would be succeeded by the sons and heirs of António Veles da Silva, brother of the institutor, who was in Índia, and from there on the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest heir, according to the Laws of the Kingdom. If the descendants of António did not wish to succeed on the administration of the entail, it would be handled to the Society of Jesus or the parish of S. Maria Madalena.
