Codicil

Codicil by which Fernando de Miranda Henriques Salema ratifies his previous will, changing some clauses. He orders the construction of an hermitage dedicated to S. Luís de França in his farmstead of Gâmbia. He orders the deposition of his body in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa before its transfer to the convent of S. Francisco of Setúbal, to be made only when it was decomposed.
Followed by the approval deed and the opening deed of the will, dated 1697-11-07.

Dowry deed

Dowry deed by which João Salema, fidalgo da Casa do Rei, donates his farmstead of Filteira, in Torres Vedras, the leases of the casal da Sarreira and his houses in Lisboa, as a dowry to Simão de Miranda Henriques, who is going to marry his daughter, D. Lourença Salema. He makes this donation to the couple, as an entail, to be passed to their descendants. If there are no descendants the entail won't have effect. He also includes in this donation the properties left by his deceased wife, D. Isabel de Almeida, and by his father-in-law, Francisco de Almeida. Simão de Miranda Henriques accepts this dowry and promises to fulfil the contract.

Tombo (extract) of the chapel of João Salema, in which it is explained that he requested a chapel with daily masses, half in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, and another half in the convent of Santíssima Trindade, which he entailed to his third part. He also established another entail, with the third parts of his father-in-law, Francisco de Almeida, and his wife, which he bequeathed first to his daughters D. Joana and D. Antónia, nuns in Santa Clara, and after their deaths to his other daughter, D. Lourença Salema, and her descendants, with the same obligation of masses in the convents of S. Francisco de Lisboa and Santíssima Trindade. He is said to have died in 1646-07-11, when the masses started to be prayed. The chapel was currently administered by Fernando de Miranda Henriques, who also had the administration of the chapel of Brás Salema. The obligations were paid until 1680.

Tombo (extract) by which it is declared that the chapel of João Salema de Almeida and D. Isabel Salema has the obligation of half an annual of masses and is administered by D. Antónia da Cruz and Fernando de Miranda Henriques, who paid the obligations until 1685.

Will

Will by which João Salema, fidalgo da Casa do Rei and comendador da Ordem de Cristo, expresses his wish to be buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his children are buried. He orders his executors to use the third part of his properties to buy a public debt instrument or properties to entail to an obligation of a daily mass for his, his wife's and his father-in-law's souls, half in the convent of Santíssima Trindade, where they are buried, and the other half in his own burial place. He appoints his eldest daughter, D. Lourença Salema, wife of Simão de Miranda Henriques, as heir of his entail. He entails the third parts of his wife, D. Isabel de Almeida, and of his father-in-law, Francisco de Almeida, which they had bequeathed him to entail, and gives their usufruct to his daughters, D. Joana and D. Antónia Salema, nuns, while they are alive. After their deaths, they shall be inherited by D. Lourença Salema or her descendants. If her lineage is extinguished, the entail shall go to the descendants of his other daughter, D. Mariana de Almeida. If her lineage is also extinguished, so will be the entail, and its properties will be used in perpetual masses.
He appoints his daughter as heir of the entail established by doutor Diogo Salema, to which he annexes half of his third part, according to its institution; as heir of the patronage of the convent of Aracoeli in Alcácer do Sal, which he inherited from Rui de Salema Soutomaior; as heir of the casal de Almeara, in Torres Vedras; and as heir of the entail of Isidro de Almeida. He appoints his grandson, Fernando Martins Henriques, as heir of a chapel in the priory of Crato which had belonged to his son, Diogo Salema, who had been appointed its administrator by Francisco de Almeida. He also orders twenty masses to be sung in the convent of Santíssima Trindade for the soul of his criado, António Gonçalves.

Will

Will by which Fernando de Miranda Henriques Salema expresses his wish to be buried in the chancel of the church of the convent of S. Francisco of Setúbal, near his ancestors. He designates his son, Luís de Miranda Henriques Salema, as his universal heir, and heir of all of his entails, and of the casal de Almeara, in Torres Vedras, the patronage of the convent of Santa Clara of Alcácer do Sal and the commanderies of Santa Maria da Pena da Guia, Santa Eulália de Balasar, S. Julião das Lobas and Santo André de Lever.
He annexes his third part to the entail established by Diogo Salema, whose chapel is in the church of Santa Maria de Setúbal.
He designates his son as heir of the chapel and entail founded by D. Maria Rebelo, which is composed of orchards in Chelas, a lease in the farmstead of Panasqueira, houses in Lisboa and a public debt instrument in Seville. This entail shall pass to his son's second son.
He declares the properties he had inherited from his father, Simão de Miranda Henriques, were part of entails he had inherited from his grandparents and which he had received as a dowry, when he had married.
He also declares he inherited entailed properties from his uncle, Diogo Salema, and the entails founded by his other uncle, Gonçalo de Miranda Henriques, and by his aunt, D. Mariana de Almeida. This last one consisted of the farmstead of Palma, mills and orchards in Barcarena, which she had entailed with obligations of daily masses for the soul of her grandfather, Francisco de Almeida.
He also entails a painting of a Descent from the Cross, to pass to his generation.

Will by which Simão de Miranda Henriques and his wife, D. Lourença Salema, express their wish to be buried in the chancel of the church of S. Francisco of Setúbal, where they have their burial place. They designate their only son, Fernando de Miranda Henriques, as their universal heir and bequeath them the entails they possess. Simão de Miranda Henriques annexes the properties he acquired after his marriage to his entails in Setúbal, which were composed of the farmstead of Alferrara, the estate of Abrunheira, the farmstead of Gâmbia and salterns. D. Lourença bequeaths him the entail of Diogo Salema, which she inherited from her father, João Salema, and to which she and her husband entailed a part of their third parts, including lands leased to the entail of D. Maria Rebelo. D. Lourença appoints also appoints him as heir of her other entails and patronages, including the patronage of the convent of Ara Coeli and the casal da Almeara Grande.
Followed by the approval deed and the opening deed of the will, dated 1661-08-05, and by a ratification deed, dated 1663-09-18.
