Will (extract)

Will (extract) by which Antónia de Lemos bequeaths the part of his mother's inheritance and a rent (foro) of 40 000 réis in houses in Rua do Hospital dos Palmeiros to her brother, José de Lemos, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 2 weekly masses for the soul of their sister in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa. After her brother's death, the entail should be passed to one of his legitimate children. If he dies childless, it must be inherited by her grand-niece, Mónica. The testator also leaves part of a house in Rua da Porta do Ferro to Maria, her grand-niece, and another house in Rua do Armazém Velho to Catarina, her other grand-niece, obligating both of them to support the celebration of weekly masses for her soul.

Codicil (extract)

Codicil (extract) by which Antónia de Lemos revokes clauses of her will, leaving part of her houses in Rua da Porta do Ferro, Lisboa, to her niece, Joana de Lemos. She also bequeaths her houses in Rua do Armazém Velho and the ground floor (loja) of other houses to her brother, José de Lemos, obligating him to support, each week, the celebration of a perpetual Saturday mass and to organize, annually, the celebration of the day of Santa Marta. Those properties could not be sold and would be inherited by Jerónimo de Lemos, her brother. After the death of both of them, the properties would be partitioned in the following way: the ground floor (loja) would be transmitted to the closest relative, who continues to be responsible for the celebration of the day of Santa Marta; the houses in Rua do Armazém Velho would to be delivered to Santa Casa da Misericórdia and sold by it. The sale's profit would be used to fund pious acts.
