Entail foundation deed

Entail foundation deed by which Cristóvão de Castro and his wife Joana Marinho founded an entail with all their assets, designating their daughter Isabel Soares de Castro to be its first administrator. She is present and agrees to this foundation. After their daughter's death, it should succeed her heirs, namely the eldest son or, in his absence, the eldest daughter. If she doesn't have children the entail will pass to Manuel Pereira de Castro, son of Cristóvão's brother, Manuel Pereira de Castro, and of Francisca de Abreu, or to heirs of Paio Gomes Pereira and Pedro Marinho Falcão, siblings of the institutors, who shall marry each other. The future bride or groom of the successor should incorporate the sixth part of their dowry into this entail. The successors were also obligated to give the "alimentos" to their siblings until they turned 18 years old. The institutors also declared that they were the "padroeiros" of the Monastery of São Bento de Monção, where they founded a chapel and possessed their graves. The administrator was obligated to order the celebration of masses in this chapel for their and their parents' soul, paying for a chaplain. This entail is composed of a farm of Bemposta, with its houses, oil press, cattle houses, orchards and vineyards; others vineyards called “Penaboa”, “Pombal”, “Veiga da Lagoa”, “Regueiro”, “Brejoeira”, “Ribeira” and “Cavaleiro”, on the outskirts of Monção. They also possessed some houses located Monção and "Seiradelo"; a crop field in the parish of Macedo and others called “Pedra da Rainha”, "Fundões", "Lamelas", "Lagoa", "Caldelas", "Sido" and "Salgueiro"; and the "herdades" of "Pedra”, "Portocavaleiro", “Testeiras”, “Lameiro do Trigal”, "Trigães”, “Tojeiro”, “Sidreiro”, “Lagoa”, “Cova do Barro”, “Salgueiro”, “Veiga de Valdosende”, “Paço” and "Cacheva".

Will by which Cristóvão de Castro and Joana Marinho express their wish to be buried in their chapel of S. João Baptista in the main church of Monção, with the weekly masses they ordered previously. They donate the properties which don't belong to their entail to their granddaughter, D. Ângela Pereira Brincos, for her profession as nun.

Will by which Francisca de Abreu required to be buried in the Monastery of São Bento de Monção, with her father-in-law and son. She left her third to her son Manuel Pereira, with the obligation to order the celebration of masses in the chapel of Santa Catarina. She also declared that the vineyard she possessed should be incorporated into this chapel. This entail should be succeeded by Manuel Pereira's eldest son or, in his absence, the eldest daughter. If her son did not have children, this entail should be succeed by her niece Isabel Soares de Castro or whomever would succeed in this entail. Followed by an approval deed 1603-05-02, an opening deed dated 1603-11-08 and a codicil dated 1603-10-16.

Will by which Manuel Pereira de Castro designated as his universal heirs Pedro Marinho Falcão and his cousin D. Isabel de Castro, wife of Alexandre de Magalhães de Meneses. Half of his assets that should be inherited by his cousin D. Isabel de Castro, should be incorporated into his chapel of Santa Catarina, in the parish of Moreira, following the same conditions of his grandfather Paio Gomes Pereira chapel's foundation. D. Isabel de Castro and her heirs were obligated to order the celebration of 52 masses in this church. The other half of his assets, that should be inherited by Pedro Marinho Falcão, should be used to order the celebration of more 52 masses. He also established that he wanted to give his nun sisters some "tenças". Followed by an approval deed dated 1611-10-22.

Will by which António de Magalhães e Meneses expresses his wish to be buried in the church of Concieiro, near his first wife, D. Inês, until he is brought to his chapel in Monção. He designates his wife, D. Joana, as his universal heir. He designates his eldest son, Alexandre de Magalhães, as heir of his two entails, established by Álvaro Soares de Castro and by Cristóvão de Castro and Joana Marinho, and of the entail of Caminha, in the convent of Santa Clara of Caminha, which belongs to his wife, D. Joana, who received it as a dowry.

Will by which Leonel de Abreu de Magalhães, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei and Mestre de Campo, appointed his nephew, António de Magalhães de Meneses, to become his universal heir and to administrate all his entails, namely his entail of Caminha, his entail of Moreira and his farmstead of Juste. He declared that his body would be buried in the chapel of S. João Batista, inside the grave where his mother lied, Joana de Abreu de Lima. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1700-12-13 and an opening deed dated 1705-03-24.
