Scope and content

Entail foundation deed by which Cristóvão de Castro and his wife Joana Marinho founded an entail with all their assets, designating their daughter Isabel Soares de Castro to be its first administrator. She is present and agrees to this foundation. After their daughter's death, it should succeed her heirs, namely the eldest son or, in his absence, the eldest daughter. If she doesn't have children the entail will pass to Manuel Pereira de Castro, son of Cristóvão's brother, Manuel Pereira de Castro, and of Francisca de Abreu, or to heirs of Paio Gomes Pereira and Pedro Marinho Falcão, siblings of the institutors, who shall marry each other. The future bride or groom of the successor should incorporate the sixth part of their dowry into this entail. The successors were also obligated to give the "alimentos" to their siblings until they turned 18 years old. The institutors also declared that they were the "padroeiros" of the Monastery of São Bento de Monção, where they founded a chapel and possessed their graves. The administrator was obligated to order the celebration of masses in this chapel for their and their parents' soul, paying for a chaplain. This entail is composed of a farm of Bemposta, with its houses, oil press, cattle houses, orchards and vineyards; others vineyards called “Penaboa”, “Pombal”, “Veiga da Lagoa”, “Regueiro”, “Brejoeira”, “Ribeira” and “Cavaleiro”, on the outskirts of Monção. They also possessed some houses located Monção and "Seiradelo"; a crop field in the parish of Macedo and others called “Pedra da Rainha”, "Fundões", "Lamelas", "Lagoa", "Caldelas", "Sido" and "Salgueiro"; and the "herdades" of "Pedra”, "Portocavaleiro", “Testeiras”, “Lameiro do Trigal”, "Trigães”, “Tojeiro”, “Sidreiro”, “Lagoa”, “Cova do Barro”, “Salgueiro”, “Veiga de Valdosende”, “Paço” and "Cacheva".
