Carlos Brandão Pereira, Catarina Freire entail

Codicil

Codicil by which Doutor Carlos Brandão Pereira confirms the will he and his wife had issued, determining that during her life she could live in the houses which were incorporated in the entail they had established. If Francisco Freire decided to expel his mother from those houses, the third part of the testator's assets would be delivered to her. He encouraged his son to try to obtain a comenda from the King, since Doutor Carlos had served him accordingly. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1625-03-03 and an opening deed issued on 1625-03-04.

Will

Will by which D. Catarina Freire, widow of Carlos Brandão Pereira, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei and Juiz da Coroa, established a chapel of a perpetual daily mass in the church of Santa Marinha, where she and her husband had bought a chapel. She entailed to it assets appraised at 24 000 réis, namely the farmstead referred in the will made by Carlos Brandão Pereira. She appointed her son, João Brandão Pereira, to administrate it, who had to be succeeded by her other son, António Brandão Pereira. After their deaths, the entail would be transmitted to the institutor's closest living relative, since her two sons were clergymen. If one of the entail's administrators had no one to whom he could pass the entail, it would be bequeathed to Santa Casa da Misericórdia. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1646-08-08 and an opening deed issued on 1646-09-23.

Will chart

Will chart by which Doutor Carlos Brandão Pereira and D. Catarina Freire, his wife, established an entail with the third part of their assets, which included houses in Lisboa and the farmstead of Malapados. They designated Francisco Freire, their youngest son, to administrate it, declaring that the entail should always be inherited by the youngest son of the future administrators. If Francisco died without leaving descendants, the entail would be passed to António Brandão, his brother. The testators determined that their bodies had to be buried in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova of the church of Santa Marinha. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1623-12-31 and an opening deed issued on 1625-03-04.
