Entail foundation deed by which Fernando de Sousa and his wife D. Maria de Castro attached the third part of their assets, including properties in Gouveia ("quintã de Merelhe"; "casal do Brunhedo"), Gestaçô ("quintã de Palmazãos"; "quintã da Torre"; "quintã da Várzea", "casal de Ansiães"), Vila Real ("quintã de Alvites"), Barcelos ("quintã de Vilaça"; "quintã de Vila Verde") and the patronages of the churches of Santa Cecília of Barcelos and of São Paio of Ruilhe, to those left by the parents of the former, Martinho Afonso de Sousa and D. Joana de Tovar, thus establishing an entail. Although the parents of Fernando de Sousa had ordered their son to found an entail with their properties, they were unable to determine what were the obligations of its successors. The administrators of the entail were obligated to support the celebration of a perpetual daily mass in the main chapel of the convent of S. Clara of Amarante.
