Bond

Bond by which the priests of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Divina Providência committed themselves to celebrate 2 perpetual daily masses for the soul of João Manuel de Lisboa, as the deceased had ordered in his will. To fulfil this obligation they would receive 60 000 réis each year, which would be given to them by Mateus da Costa, João's nephew, and his successors. The money would be extracted from the revenues of houses located on Carmo and Rua da Metade, in Lisboa.

João de Ataíde e Sousa, his minor daughter Ângela de Vilhena, and Francisco Correia, his wife Ana da Silva, and their minor sons António Correia and Maria da Silva, by which all minors sons and daughters of Manuel de Ataíde and Francisco Correia promised under oath that they and their descendants agreed with the conditions established in a previous composition deed made between D. Manuel de Ataíde, his deceased wife D. Maria de Noronha and Francisco Correia and his wife Ana da Silva, that settled a judicial demand they had for over 27 years regarding the administration of the entail founded by Rodrigo Afonso de Atouguia. By this bond, the minor sons and daughters of both parts involved agreed and promised to never change or appeal for the alteration of any clauses of the contract, resigning all their rights of appel, regardless of the Ordenações do Reino, book 3, title 83, and regardless of the death of any of the parts involved. They also compromised to submit this bond to be confirmed by the king who would validate it through the interposition of the clause of his "absoule power, self motu, certain science and perpetual silence". The guardian and friars of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa accept the obligation to pray the masses established by the institutors for 20 000 reis of alms taken from the revenue of those houses.
Francisco de Barros and Cecília Luís had established a daily mass in the convent of Santíssima Trindade, entailing to it three houses in Lisboa, and appointing their nephew, Jerónimo Ribeiro, as its administrator. However, Jerónimo Ribeiro had denounced the administration, as well as the convent of Santíssima Trindade, because the houses didn't grant enough revenue, rendering the chapel vacant.

Bond by which D. Branca, minor, daughter of Jerónimo Correia de Almada and D. Beatriz de Freitas, her tutor, promises to pay the obligations of Maria de Almada's chapel, of which she is the administrator. Maria de Almada established a chapel and entail with all of her properties. She bequeathed them to Jerónimo Correia de Almada, son of Jorge Carreiro de Almada, and to his descendants, with an obligation of 41 masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. She appointed Jorge Carreiro de Almada as her executor, but he died before he could present the money of the institutor. All that was left were houses in rua dos Escudeiros, Lisboa, already entailed to the chapel of Catarina da Silva, of which Jerónimo Correia de Almada was administrator.
As D. Branca was heir of both these chapels, her mother, D. Beatriz de Freitas, requested that part of the revenue of the houses already entailed to Catarina da Silva's chapel be used to pay for the chapel established by Maria de Almada. This request was, ultimately, accepted.

Bond by which D. António de Almada, brother of D. Maria de Meneses, wife of Pantaleão de Sá, who was in India, and his wife, D. Vicência de Castro, as heirs of D. Maria de Meneses, entail their houses in Lisboa to the chapel she established. This chapel shall then pass to their descendants. D. Anntónio de Almada and his wife had been appointed heirs of D. Maria de Meneses by her father, D. Fernando de Almada, deceased. D. Maria had been buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, and had meant to entail a public debt instrument to her chapel. However, at the time of her death, she didn't have any public debt instruments, which led to the writing of this bond.

Bond by which Francisco Falcão de Almeida, in his name and in the name of his wife, Luísa de Mesquita, committed himself to give, every year, 4 500 réis to the church of S. Pedro of Alfama, taken from the revenues of houses in Rua do Alegrete, to support the celebration of annual masses for Rodrigo de Landrobe's soul, as it was requested by Isabel Fernandes de Figueiroa, Luísa's late grandmother and Rodrigo's first wife. That pious obligation would always be attached to those houses, even if they were sold.
Isabel Fernandes de Figueiroa had determined in her will that her heirs had to give, each year, 7 000 réis to the church of S. Pedro of Alfama. Its priests would be obligated to celebrate annual masses for her soul and for the soul of Rodrigo de Landrobe. She also had declared in a dowry deed that part of that value (2 500 réis) would be taken from the revenues of houses in Rua da Adiça, donated to her daughter, D. Luísa. Contains a copy of a letter-of-attorney.

Bond by which D. António de Alcáçova Carneiro Carvalho da Costa and his wife D. Maria da Costa, the administrators of his aunt D. Ana Henriques' chapel, contracted with the priest of the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora the celebration of masses in this church. They established that they wanted to give a public debt instrument of 51 200 réis in Alfândega de Lisboa, and a "censo" of 8 800 réis from a vegetable garden located in chafariz de Arroios and a "casal" called "Soveral", located in Alpiarça, on the outskirts of Santarém. This document also mentioned that the institutor died in 1647-05-14 and that D. António de Alcáçova Carneiro Carvalho da Costa was her last will executor.

Bond between Francisco de Barros, advogado, widower of Catarina da Costa, and the priests of the convent of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa. Francisco de Barros and his wife had made a contract with the convent in 1636-04-04 where they established a daily mass for their souls in the chapel of S. José, which they had bought. They had entailed to it their houses in Lisboa. However, since the houses were leased, and couldn't be entailed, Catarina da Costa had established in her will that they should be replaced for other properties. Accordingly, Francisco de Barros gives 600 000 réis to the convent so they can apply it in a public debt instrument to entail in place of these houses, which were freed.

Bond by which the friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça declared that João Gonçalves de Ataíde had given them, in his will, 40 000 réis to buy a property, determining that its revenues had to support the celebration of a weekly mass, every Saturday, for his soul. The friars bought a property (casal) in Monte Lavar, located on the outskirts of Sintra, for 100 000 réis, which they associated to that perpetual pious obligation. If the masses were not celebrated as ordered, the heirs and successors of the deceased were entitled to take possession of part of that property and to give it to another church or convent. The executor of the will of João Gonçalves de Ataíde, who was also his brother, João Gonçalves da Câmara, Capitão da Ilha da Madeira, paid the promised amount of money to the convent.

The latter promised to spend 3 000 cruzados in the construction and adornment of their church and, in exchange, the priests would give him the main chapel to serve as a burial place for his body and for his successors' remains.
