Warrant

Warrant issued by the king D. Manuel to bacharel João Vaz on behalf of Lopo de Sousa, administrator of the chapel and hospital founded by Pedro Escuro in Santarém, ordering that the remains of the institutor's body should be brought from it's current grave and again buried in the church of the Hospital Grande de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, near the Altar-Mor, where a signboard with the institutor's name should be placed as well as the information that he founded the chapel and hospital. The king ordered that a daily mass should be preached on the chapel, regardless of a reduction made on behalf of the administrator Lopo Afonso, and that the current administrator, Lopo de Sousa, and his successors should give 12.000 réis each ear for the upkeep of the hospital and masses.

Tombo of the chapel and hospital of R0camador and Palmeiros founded by Pedro Escuro in Santarém, with informations of the legates disposed by the institutor, originally six beds for the care of poor and ill persons, and a reduction made on the number of masses preached made by the king D. Manuel, who also annexed this six beds to the Hospital Grande de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo de Santarém. At the end of the tombo there is a list of properties that were annexed explicitly for the upkeep of the Hospital and masses disposed by the institutor.

Pedro Escuro in Santarém, succeeding to his late father Gonçalo Vaz Coutinho. This grace is a reward for his services and for his late father' services, and also for his marriage with D. Maria de Aguila. He is authorized to keep the income of 100.000 réis and two of his daughters will be able to profess in religion.

He can also provide 1000 cruzados of income to his wife D. Francisca Agostinho de Contreiras for her lifetime; and must renounce to the alcaiadaria-mor of Sousel. This grace is a reward for his services as ambassador in several occasions.

Administration letter to Afonso Garcês of the chapels of Pedro Escuro and Santa Maria de Rocamador and Palmeiros, in Santarém, only for lifetime, because Lopo Afonso's son, previous administrator, was still a boy and unskilled for the administration. Furthermore, Afonso Garcês had further claimed that the king could not grant "de juro e herdade" the administration of that chapel, but only appoint the person he considered most suitable for administrator.

Acórdão em relação sentencing the chapel and hospital founded by Pedro Escuro en Santarém vacant and henceforth incorporated on the Crown’s administration and settling a dispute over the annexation of the prazos and foros of the chapel, all of them considered free for the administrator to lease them at his will. The desembargadores ordered that the old tombo should be reformed.
