Will of António Correia Bettencourt bequeathing his available portion to his wife, D. Maria da Câmara, with the pious obligation of five Our Father prayers and five Holy Mary prayers. After her death, his available portion will be bequeathed to Inácio Bettencourt e Câmara and his descendants, who will own it as an entail. He also appoints Pedro de Bettencourt Henriques, his son, to succeed him in the administration of the real estate belonging to the entail of Guiomar Correia, in which he was appointed by Maria de Lima.

Will of Pedro de Bettencourt Henriques founding an entail with his available portion and appointing his wife as his first successor and, after her death, their son, António Correia, with the pious obligation of a weekly prayed mass in the hermitage of Boa Hora or in the altar of Nossa Senhora in any church. His available portion will be annexed to the entail founded by António Correia, o Grande, and his wife D. Isabel de Bettencourt, which the testator administrates, if his son has a legitimate son or not. Pedro de Bettencourt Henriques also appoints João de Bettencourt Henriques, his eldest son, to succeed him in the property of Covão, administrated, before him, by his father, António Correia Bettencourt, and, before him, by Maria de Lima, belonging to the entail of Guiomar Correia.

DOCUMENTO/DATA DE INSTITUIÇÃO: escritura de doação e arrendamento a meias (f. 56-59 e 83-87) de dois serrados que a instituidora D. Guiomar Correia dá a seu criado Sebastião Mendes, marido de Maria de Lima, celebrada em 1592-07-30, Câmara de Lobos. Notário António Garcia, do lugar de Câmara de Lobos.
ENCARGOS (ANUAIS): mil réis à Confraria dos Fiéis de Deus de Câmara de Lobos e mil réis à mesma confraria dos mosteiro de São Bernardino destinados a cinco missas; quinhentos réis (deduzidos dos dois mil réis) à escrava Leonor, em sua vida. Por sentença de 1818-12-14 (f. 191 a 231) as capelas administradas pelo Visconde de Torre Bela são reduzidas à seguinte pensão: missa aos Domingos e dias santos (90 missas) celebrada por um capelão por 100.000 réis anuais; três missas de Natal por 2.400 réis; obras da capela do Carmo do Funchal conforme determinado pelo instituidor Manuel Martins Brandão; a capela de D. Isabel Bettencourt é reduzida a duas tochas para a Igreja de Câmara de Lobos e duas tochas para São Bernardino.
BENS VINCULADOS: pedaço de vinha e serrado do Covão; serrado de pão denominado “D. Joana”, que Sebastião Mendes toma posse em 1592-09-12.
ADMINISTRADORES: EM 1594 (f. 68), Ana de Chaves, que assina a primeira quitação de missas a pedido do pai Sebastião Mendes; em 1612, Marcos Ximenes, por si e por Maria de Lima.

F. 51 a 54 – Embargos, datados de novembro de 1608, de António Correia Henriques contra o réu Gaspar Ferreira, que esteve durante 9 anos ao serviço de António de Andrade do Couto, antecessor do autor. O réu alega que recebeu somente quatro pipas de vinho. O autor contrapõe que, além das quatro pipas de vinho embarcadas num navio, no valor de cerca de 40.000 réis, lhe dera mais meio moio de biscoitos e “outros momos e cousas pera sua matolagem e vestido, isto por conta do legado; acrescenta que a mulher, depois que o réu regressou do Brasil, lhe dera mais três pipas de vinho em pagamento dos quatro anos do seu serviço.

Agreement deed

Agreement deed between Pedro de Bettencourt Henriques and António Correia Henriques and João de Bettencourt Henriques, in which the first one gave 133.313 réis to each one to be the only owner of the properties bequeathed by Maria de Lima, located in Covão, and the latter ones confessed that they already received that money and that they gave up from the lawsuit.
Followed by a consent deed of D. Maria Tavira, wife of António Correia Henriques, dated from 1671-06-12.
