Will (extract) by which Maria Brandão bequeaths houses in Rua dos Escudeiros, Lisboa, to her brother, Diogo Brandão, determining that he and his descendants must support the celebration of 20 annual masses and an anniversary mass for her soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of that city. If her brother leaves no descendants or decides to become a friar, the entail should be inherited by Beatriz Brandão, the testator's sister.

Will (extract) by which Francisco Martins Seabra established an entail with the obligation to celebrate masses each year in a privileged altar. He designated his wife Engrácia de Macedo to be its first administrator.

Will (extract) by which Mariana de Lencastre, Luís da Silva's widow, asked the executors of her will, her sons, to institute a daily mass for her soul and the soul of her husband, as it was ordered in his will, in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa, where their bodies would be buried. They should do so only if at the time of her death the partition of their father's patrimony was still unfinished and the widow was unable to employ the third part of her husband's assets to buy a rent. She ordered the executors to prevent that João Gomes da Silva, her eldest son, treated the property belonging to her dowry as an entail, since it should be used to fulfil the pious legacies and to support another daily mass for her soul in her chapel. She declared that her and her husband had previously established agreements with that convent and that him had also founded an entail. She asked the future administrator of her chapel to fulfil its pious obligations.

Will (extract) by which Francisco Janes Caldeirão established an entail, designating António Dias Duarte to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses and to give 30 000 réis for a chaplain. This entail is composed of houses located in Carnide.

Will (extract) by which Francisca de Sá Pereira established an entail, designating her cousin Brás Pereira to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses for her and her husband's soul. If her cousin died, it should succeed the heirs of her brother António Castelo Branco.

Will (extract) by which Antónia de Lemos bequeaths the part of his mother's inheritance and a rent (foro) of 40 000 réis in houses in Rua do Hospital dos Palmeiros to her brother, José de Lemos, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 2 weekly masses for the soul of their sister in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa. After her brother's death, the entail should be passed to one of his legitimate children. If he dies childless, it must be inherited by her grand-niece, Mónica. The testator also leaves part of a house in Rua da Porta do Ferro to Maria, her grand-niece, and another house in Rua do Armazém Velho to Catarina, her other grand-niece, obligating both of them to support the celebration of weekly masses for her soul.

Will (extract) through which Belchior Lopes establishes a chapel in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, entailing to it the third part of his assets, including houses and a rent (foro) of 2 000 réis in Colares. He determines that his heir and his successors should support the celebration of an annual mass for his soul, over his grave, in that church. The entailed properties could never be sold or exchanged for others.

Will (extract) by which the bishop D. Diogo Ortiz bequeaths his niece, D. Isabel, daughter of his brother Fernando Ortiz, his properties in Varatojo, Palhavã and Campo Maior, as a dowry, with an obligation of a weekly mass in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa, or wherever he is buried.

Will (extract) by which Helena Coelho designates as her universal heir her legitimized natural son Manuel Coelho, who lives in Madrid and works for D. Bernardo de Ataíde, prior de Guimarães. She bequeaths him her properties in Portalegre, Moita and Nisa, with the obligation of 10 annual masses for her soul.

Will (extract) by which Álvaro Girão declares that, even tough he had been supporting the celebration of annual masses for the soul of Catarina Álvares, he did not buy a property to attach to that pious obligation. In order to fulfil the dead woman's will, he decides to associate that obligation to houses he owned, which he leaves to his son.

Will (extract) by which Jerónimo de Melo established an entail with the obligation to celebrate masses. He designated his nephew Manuel Limpo to be its first administrator. This entail is composed of an olive grove in Mouchão, and vineyards in Regengo of Duque de Bragança and Fonte da Pipa.

Will (extract) by which João Dias established an entail with the obligation to celebrate masses in the Church of Rio de Mouro. He designated his son Simão Vaz to be its first administrator. This entail is composed of houses, orchard, vineyard and land located in the parish of Rio de Mouro, on the outskirts of Cascais.

Will (extract) by which João da Cunha established an entail, designating his cousin Bernarda de Ornelas to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Monastery of Cartaxo, where his parents were buried. This entail is composed of houses located in São Vicente de Fora and a farm called "Alião" on the outskirts of Sacavém.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Cardoso de Almeida expresses his wish to be buried in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa. He appoints his natural son, Jerónimo Cardoso, as his heir, with the obligation of buying properties to entail to an obligation of a daily mass for his soul in his chapel.

Will (extract) by which João de Macelos da Veiga established an entail with the obligation to celebrate masses wherever the administrator wanted. This entail is composed of vineyards and olive groves called "Funcheira", located in Lumiar, Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Francisco da Costa bequeaths his rents (foros) of 50 000 réis to the brotherhood of Santíssimo Sacramento of the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, obligating its members to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for his soul and for the soul of his wife, Isabel Monteiro. Part of those rents (9 000 réis) would also be used to assure the celebration of annual masses for Belchior Pereira's soul.

Will (extract) by which Maria da Costa established an entail with lands she owned, designating her great-niece, D. Beatriz, daughter of D. Maria and João de Valadares, to administrate it. She and her successors were obligated to celebrate 6 annual masses for the institutor's soul in the altar of Nossa Senhora do Rosário of the church of S. Vicente and a mass, each year, in the church of S. Estêvão of Penso. If D. Beatriz died without leaving descendants, she would be succeeded by her brother, Álvaro. The entail's administrators would also be responsible for giving an annual pension of 2 000 réis to Beatriz de Vasconcelos, the testator's niece who was a nun in the convent of S. Bento of Porto. As soon as she died, that sum of money would support the celebration of 10 more masses for the institutor's soul in the church of S. Estêvão.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar de Araújo e Sousa bequeathed all his properties in the island of S. Tomé to Gaspar de Sousa Lobo, his nephew, determining that he should establish a chapel in his honour in the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça or in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. If that was not possible, it would be erected in the monastery of S. Bento of that city. The heir had the obligation of buying a public debt instrument to support the celebration of annual masses.

Will (extract) by which João Domingues founded chapel with an olive grove near the road to Espinhaço da Cabra, a rent (foro) of 1 200 réis in a vegetable garden near Fonte da Rala and a rent of 900 réis in houses located on Olivença. He chose his grandson, João, to administrate it, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of 2 annual masses for the souls of the institutor's parents, João Sobrinho and Teresa Vaz. If João died without heirs, the chapel would be administrated by António, Guiomar Domingues' son, or his offspring.
The testator established another chapel with an olive grove located near S. Francisco, designating his daughter, Guiomar Domingues, to administrate it. She and her descendants were obligated to support the celebration of 5 annual masses in honour of the five holy wounds. After her death, she would be succeeded by António, her son.
He also left Guiomar Domingues his houses on Rua das Carniças [?] and a vegetable garden (horta) near Fonte da Rala with the obligation of celebrating 2 perpetual annual masses for his soul.

Will (extract) by which Maria da Maia de Lemos, widow of Rui Gomes da Carvalhosa, determined that the value of the third part of her assets had to be employed in the acquisition of a public debt instrument of 50 000 réis or a rent (foro). Its revenues would support the celebration of a perpetual mass every All Saints' Day and other annual masses for the souls of her relatives and her late husband. The executors of her will were responsible for defining how much would cost the perpetual masses. The will was approved in 1599-07-19.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Garcês established an entail with a farmstead in Caldas da Rainha ("quinta do Formigal"), rents (foros) and vineyards in Óbidos and Coutos de Alcobaça, incorporating in it the third part of his late wife's assets, Francisca do Carvalhal, and the legitimate part of his late son, Manuel Garcês. He designated his grandson, Manuel Garcês, to administrate it. If he died without leaving descendants, it would be transmitted to the granddaughter of the institutor, D. Maria. The administrators were obligated to maintain the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, which the institutor erected in his farmstead, and to support the celebration of an annual mass every September 8.
He also appointed his grandson to receive the office of Escrivão da Alfândega de Lisboa, as it was allowed by the King.
The testator declared that he had made a previous will in which he had instituted an entail with his farmstead, appointing his son, Manuel Garcês, to administrate it. He was obligated to support the celebration of 13 annual masses in the altar of the crucifix of the church of Nossa Senhora do Loreto. His son and D. Madalena, his wife, agreed with the terms of the deed. However, Manuel Garcês had died without being able to inherit it.

Will (extract) by which Mécia Rodrigues bequeathed houses in Lisboa and a rent (foro) in Campolide to António Álvares de Paredes, who she had raised, obligating him and his heirs to spend 2 000 réis, every year, in the celebration of masses in the church of Nossa Senhora do Loreto. Followed by an extract of a declaration of the institutor, made on that same day, in the approval deed of the will.

Will (extract) by which Isabel Gonçalves bequeathed houses on Rua de Gaspar Bena, in Lisboa, to her son-in-law, Francisco Ribeiro, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of masses, every All Saints' Day, in the church of her parish and other annual masses for Gonçalo Eanes' soul in the church of S. Julião. If her son-in-law died without leaving descendants, the entail would be given to one of her relatives.
She also left a rent (foro) in houses in Portas da Cruz, Alfama, to her daughter, Maria Dias. After her death, it would be transmitted to one of her children or, if she died without leaving offspring, to one of her relatives. The testator bequeathed another rent (foro) in houses on Rua do Espírito Santo and a rent (foro) in houses on Rua dos Pastéis to her daughter, obligating her to to support the celebration of annual masses during Lent. She was free to leave it to whomever she chose, even if he/she was not her relative.

Will (extract) by which Ambrósio Fernandes Brandão asked the executors of his will to buy a chapel of the convent of S. Bento of Lisboa, which should be devoted to S. João Batista. Inside the chapel, a perpetual daily mass had to be celebrated for the soul of the institutor. His remains, the bodies of his wife, Ana Brandão, of their descendants, and of his mother, Margarida Lopes Brandão, who had been buried in the convent of S. Francisco, would be deposited inside it. The testator's heirs were obligated to buy a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis to support the pious obligations. Luís Brandão, the institutor's son, was chosen to be the chapel's first administrator.

Will (extract) by which Bárbara Afonso designates her husband, Manuel Pais, as her heir, bequeathing him her third part, consisting of houses and mills in Lisboa, with an obligation of a monthly mass for her soul. She also bequeaths him other houses with the obligation of a weekly mass in a total of 50 masses. The houses can be sold with these obligations. She also declares that whoever inherits her casal in Monfeire, Lisboa, has to order a monthly mass for her soul and three Christmas masses.

Will (extract) by which Manuel Henriques declares he has freed his houses in Lisboa from an obligation of three annual masses which he had passed to his step-daughter, Maria Henriques. In place of this obligation, he orders three annual masses for himself and his wife in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the church of Santo Estêvão de Alfama. This obligation shall always pass with the houses.

Will (extract) by which D. Mariana Coutinho establishes an entail with her third part, consisting of farmsteads in S. Bartolomeu da Charneca, Lisboa, a casal in Almeirim and other properties, annexing it to her chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas, adding to its obligations giving a dowry to orphans every three years. She designates her eldest son André de Figueiredo Coutinho, as first administrator and, if he dies without successors, her criado, Tomé Rodrigues. They shall have the usufruct of the entail during their lifetime, and afterwards the entail shall be administered by the priests of the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas. She includes in this entail the obligations of the entail of her aunt, D. Isabel Coutinho, which shall pass to the future possessors of her chapel.

Will (extract) of Mateus Vaz Pacheco entailing one moio of wheat of income, from his available portion, to celebrate a weekly mass in the chapel.

Will (extract) of Jerónimo Henriques. Entails assets for the celebration of charges in the chapel of São Miguel do Anjo, in Castro Daire. He appoints Jerónimo, his great-grandson, son of Isabel Henriques, his granddaughter, and of Jerónimo Henriques, now deceased, as administrator of that chapel.

Will (extract) by which Afonso Eanes Carrasco establishes an entail with all his properties, appointing his cousin, João Eanes Galego, to be its first administrator. He obligates him to pay each year 100 libras, extracted from the revenues of his assets, to the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, in order to support the celebration of annual masses for his soul. He mentions that his body should be buried inside that convent.

Will (extract) by which Gonçalo Vaz de Carvalho, son of Rui de Carvalho, bequeaths his brother, Bernardo Carvalho, two public debt instruments and the revenue of his houses in Lisboa. Bernardo Carvalho shall add these assets to the entail established by their father, of which he is the administrator, with the obligation of two daily masses over the tomb of their parents, in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa.

Will (extract) of António Correia and Maria da Cruz Carnide, his wife. They appoint the one surviving of the two as heir to a third of their assets with the obligation of establishing a chapel, entailing the third parts of their assets to fulfill the charges, celebrated at the altar of Nossa Senhora da Luz. They appoint Feliciana Maria, their daughter, first administrator, to whom their descendants should succeed. They exclude Luís Correia, and his descendants, from the administration of the chapel.

Will (extract) made by João Fuseiro in which he ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of masses. He appointed Lopo Pires to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his first-born son, lay and legitimate.
