Will made by Maria Velez in which she expressed her wish to be buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Portalegre. She established two entails, each one with a perpetual obligation of nine annual masses celebrated. The first entail would be composed of her houses in Portalegre and should be administrated by her husband Manuel Gonçalves and after his death by her brother João Velez. The second entail would be composed of a vineyard and should be administrated by her brother Brás Velez. After the death of the assigned administrators, the succession should always continue, preferably, on a female daughter appointed by the last administrator. If any male descendant wished to became a clergyman, he would have the permission to use the entailed assets as a dowry. The Provedor of Portalegre should take account of the administration every year.

Will made by José Rodrigues and his wife Maria Gonçalves, in which they ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual mass obligation of six masses celebrated every year on the convent of S. Francisco, in Portalegre, where their bodies should be buried. They named one another as administrators of the entail with the condition that the last one remaining should appoint the next administrator, chosing a close relative of the institutor's bloodline, with the same condition.

Will of Vasco Lopes, citizen of Braga, and his wife Joana de Proença. They declared that they had no children or forced heirs and that the surviving spouse would be the universal heir of the deceased. The property was to be incorporated into a "morgado", whose first administrator would be Vasco or Joana, to be followed by a person of their choice. From then on, the succession would be by consanguinity, with preference given to first-born sons. The heir had the obligation to celebrate three weekly and perpetual masses for the souls of the institutors and their relatives.

She named her husband Manuel Feio as first administrator with the condition that he would appoint the next administrator with the same condition.

Will of Pedro Soares de Albergaria Freire ordering his brother, Cristóvão Soares de Albergaria, to establish their entail by a contract, with a common property near their houses in Oliveira do Conde, where they founded the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. If his brother does not want to participate, the testator orders the foundation of another entail with his part of the same property and clauses and appoints his brother as his successor.

Freire, Pedro Soares de Albergaria (d.1688)

Will of Cristóvão Mendes de Vasconcelos, canon in the Cathedral of Braga. The testator requests that his body be buried in the Cathedral, in the place reserved for canons. He decided to establish an entail, including in this "morgado" the farmstead of Briteiros, which he had previously bought from Jorge do Vale Vieira, and other 5,000 cruzados, which were to be used to acquire other lands. The first owner of the entail would be his nephew Cristóvão Vieira, or alternatively Baltasar Vieira. Succession would be by blood, with preference given to first-born sons, excluding illegitimate children. Administrators were obliged to use the family name of Vieira. They were also obliged to establish a chapel in the church of São Salvador de Briteiros or in the convent of São Francisco de Guimarães, if the testator had not done so during his lifetime. In this chapel, the mortal remains of his parents, grandparents and future administrators of the entail should be interred.

Will of João Gonçalves, declaring that his body should be buried in the church of Santa Eulália de Rio Covo. The testators states that he had received his father's "terça", which he decides to perpetually entail. His daughter Maria Gonçalves and her descendants were named as the holders and administrators of the entail, with the obligation to celebrate masses at the altar of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, in the aforementioned church. The succession would take place by appointment, choosing a son or daughter.

Will made by Susana Gonçalves in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail, with a perpetual mass obligation of one mass celebrated every year on the mother church of Água do Pau, S. Miguel island. She named her husband João Pires Leão as first administrator with the condition that he would appoint one of their children to succeed him with the same condition.

He bequeaths rents of wheat and the half of a vineyard to Maria Furtado, his niece, with the obligation of 11 annual masses. He bequeaths two parts of a vineyard, another half of a vineyard and a rent of wheat to his nephew, Manuel Dias Furtado, with the obligation of 9 annual masses. He bequeaths a lease and a half of a farmland to his nephew, João Soares de Sousa, with the obligation of 6 annual masses, and bequeaths the other half of this farmland to his other nephew, Agostinho de Sousa de Almada, with the obligation of three annual masses. These properties should always be transmitted to successors belonging to the lineage of his nephews and niece .

Will made by Duarte Rodrigues de Castelo Branco, in which he ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of fifty masses celebrated every year on the church of Jesus of Monforte, where his body should be buried. He named his wife Inês Godinho as first administrator during her lifetime and after her death she would appoint a close relative to succeed her on the administration, with the same conditions.

She also mentioned that her mother, Maria Rodrigues, ordered a perpetual obligation of two sung masses celebrated every year on the same convent, and by this document she also disposed that the administrator of her entail should also fulfill this obligation. She named her sister Inês Curva as first administrator during her lifetime, whith the condition that she would appoint one of her sons or daughters to succeed her with the same conditions.

Will made in Crato by Beatriz Caldeira, in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail, composed of farmlands and vineyards in Crato, and chapel with a perpetual obligation of sixteen masses celebrated every year. She named her husband Francisco Manso as first administrator during his lifetime and after his death she named her cousins Pedro Caldeira and Francisco Aires Mendes to share the administration of the chapel at the same time, with the condition that before their deaths, each one would appoint one of his own children to succeed them with the exact same conditions.

Will made by Pedro Fernandes Subtil, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail composed of some houses in Marvão, inherited from his father with a perpetual obligation of four masses celebrated every year, to which he added some lands and an olive grove, increasing, henceforth, the perpetual mass obligation in sixteen masses celebrated every year as long as the world lasted, totalizing twenty masses every year. Over all these assets he imposed the clauses of perpetual indivisibility. To administrate this entail, he named his brother padre João Rodrigues Subtil, with the condition that he would appoint a successor with the same conditions.

Will made in Portalegre by João Rodrigues Sombreiro, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of three masses celebrated every year in the convent church of Espírito Santo, where his body should be buried. He named his wife Maria Mendes as first administrator with the condition that she would appoint an administrator to succeed her with the same conditions.

Will of Pedro Pais and his wife Maria Brava. The couple requested to be buried in the Chapel of the Santíssimo Sacramento in the Cathedral of Braga. They named each other as their universal heirs. With the aim of establishing an entail, they reserved properties in Braga, which were to be owned first by their nephew Martinho Bravo, whom they had raised "as their own son". He was to be succeeded by his son Diogo Bravo or by Manuel Bravo. If both died without descendants, someone from the Bravo family would have to be appointed administrator. Clerics were excluded from this role. The administrator had to ensure that two masses were celebrated each week and had to use the surnames Bravo and Pais. A copy of the testament had to be inserted in the records of the Juízo dos Resíduos de Braga, in order to preserve the memory of the pious obligations of the administrators.

Will made in Portalegre by Manuel Velez Abóbora, in which he ordered his burial in the convent of S. Francisco of Portalegre and the foundation of two entails. The first entail would be composed of his houses and would have a perpetual obligation of twenty masses celebrated every year and would be administrated by his wife Francisca Gonçalves during her lifetime, and, before her death she would appoint an administrator to succeed her with the same conditions. The second entail would be composed of an olive grove, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual obligation of three masses celebrated every year, and would be administrated by his nephew Manuel, son of Lourenço Gonçalves Barba, with the condition that he would became a clergyman. Before his death, Manuel would appoint an administrator to succeed him with the same conditions.

Miguel's day in the church of Santiago of Marvão, where his body should be buried. He named his brother padre Manuel Fernandes as first administrator of the entail during his lifetime, and, after his death, the administration would be handled to Inês Gonçalves, sister of the institutor, with the condition that she would appoint an administrator to succeed her with the same conditions.

She appoints Manuel Velez de Meira to succeed her on the administration of the chapel founded by her brother padre Manuel Gonçalves Serra, which was composed of a vineyard and olive grove in Ribeira da Seda. She appoints her nephew Belchior Pereira to succeed her on the administration of a chapel by padre Manuel Vaz Morujo, in which she had succeeded after the death of her sister Catarina de Campos. She also establishes a new entail composed of her houses in Portalegre, with a perpetual obligation of five annual masse, and names her niece Maria Ana Pereira de Campos as first administrator with the condition that she would appoint a person to succeed her with the same conditions.

If his health did not improved, the administrator should pass to the hospital of São Marcos, under the condition of celebrating a daily mass for his soul.

Will made by Catarina Carrilho, in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of three entails. The first entail would be composed of some houses and a golden cross, over which the institutor imposed a perpetual mass obligation of two masses celebrated every year, and to administrate she named Maria Inchada as first administrator during her lifetime, and, after her death, the administration would be handled to her eldest son or daughter, whoever she appointed, who would be succeeded by their eldest son or daughter with the same conditions. She bequeathed a land to the Confraria de S. Pedro imposing a perpetual obligation of one mass celebrated every year over it, and, from the remaining of all her assets she ordered the foundation of two more chapels. This second chapel would have a perpetual obligation of two masses celebrated every week on the mother church of Alpalhão, and would be administrated by her cousin, Maria Mendes, wife of Manuel Dalva, who lived on Castelo de Vide, and, after their deaths, the succession should always continue on the eldest heir, male or female. The third chapel would have a perpetual obligation of 102 masses celebrated every year, that being two masses celebrated every week, and would be administrated by Maria Chambel Alfaia, during her lifetime, and by her son Manuel and his eldest heirs, male or female, after his death. However, if Manuel wished to became a clergyman, he would only administrate during his lifetime, and, after his death, the administration would be handled to his sister Joana, and after the death of Joana to Pedro, their brother, and after his death to Maria Inchada, administrator of the first chapel, or, if none of them had children, to Sebastiana, daughter of Amaro Gomes and Leonor Miguéis, and, after the death of Sebastiana, if she also had no children, the administration would be transmitted to Maria, daughter of João Dias Rovisco, or the Confraria do Santo Nome de Jesus of Alpalhão.

She establishes an entail composed of her properties in Castelo de Vide with the obligation of an annual mass. As administrator, she appointed her nephew Gaspar Mergulhão, granting him the power to choose his successor amongst his kin. If he did not appoint an heir, then the successor would be one of Pedro Mergulhão's children.

He establishes an entail composed of an olive grove in Castelo de Vide, with the obligation of 4 annual masses. As administrator, he appointed his nephew Gaspar Mergulhão, juiz das sisas, granting him the power to choose one of his relatives from the Mergulhões family as successor. If he did not appoint an heir, then the administrator should be the closest relative.

Will of Padre João Nogueira bequeathing all his assets to his niece, Maria Barba, to order, after his death, the chapel he founds in Castelo de Vide. Maria Barba will enjoy his assets while she is alive and, after her death, they will be entailed to his chapel with the pious obligation of seven annual masses.

Will made by Maria Fernandes, nicknamed "a Grila", in which she ordered to be buried in the Mother Church of Amieira. She founded three entails, one for her nephew João Aires, a second for her niece Isabel Dias, and the third for her nephew Manuel Martins da Cruz, respectively with perpetual pious obligations of five, four and twenty masses celebrated every year as long as the world lasted. The first two entails are composed of houses, vineyards and olive groves in Amieira, and the last one is composed of movable and immovable goods. Each one of those first appointed administrators would be succeeded by a son or daughter of their own choice, or by a close relative if they have none, and from there on the succession should always continue through appointment.

Will made by Margarida Dias, Diogo Fernandes Cerejo's widow, in which she expressed her wish to be buried next ot her husband, in the cathedral of Portalegre. She annexed two houses, half of an estate and a vineyard to the chapel founded by her father-in-law Manuel Fernandes Cerejo in Portalegre, as she was obliged by the partitions made after her husband's death. She also ordered the foundation of two entails, the first, composed of her houses in Portalegre, to be administered by her niece Isabel Fernandes and the second, composed of half a vineyard, to be administered by her niece Inês, both of them with a perpetual pious obligation of two masses celebrated every year. Isabel and Inês would administered their entails during their lifetimes and before their deaths of each one would appoint an administrator among their relatives to succeed with the same conditions.

Dias, Margarida (d.1658)

Will by which padre João Vivas Barba expresses his wish to be buried in his chapel of Santa Teresa in the church of S. Tiago of Castelo de Vide. He establishes an entail with his farmlands and estate and a perpetual obligation of twenty annual masses and names Doutor Pedro Vivas, abade de S. Tiago, and his sister, Maria Vivas, as first administrators. The last one alive would appoint a relative to succeed on the administration, and from there on the succession should always continue by appointment. He also annexes to this entail his two houses, of which the bigger ones had belonged to the chapel founded by his uncle, which he also bequeaths to Pedro Vivas and Maria Vivas, who shall also appoint the future administrator.

Will made by Doutor Pedro Mouzinho, in which he expressed his wish to be buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of Castelo de Vide and ordered the foundation of five entails. The first entail would be composed of houses, farmlands and windmills in Ribeira de Marvão and Castelo de Vide, would have a perpetual obligation of 200 annual masses and would be administered by Pedro's homonymous nephew Pedro Mouzinho, and his eldest descendants after him. The second and the third entails were composed of farmlands and houses in Castelo de Vide and Marvão, would have the perpetual obligation of 30 annual masses each and would be administered by Pedro's nieces, Maria Mouzinho and Antónia Mouzinho. The fourth and fifth entails would be composed of farmlands and houses in Castelo de Vide and would have a perpetual obligation of 50 annual masses each. Pedro Mouzinho named his sisters Leonor Mouzinho and Isabel de Almeida as administrators with the condition that they would appoint two of their father's grandsons to succeed them. All administrators of these five entails could never marry with a person of the so-called "infected races" or, otherwise, would lose the administration, and all of them should conserve good mores and a good way of living according with the catholic doctrine.
He also bequeathed one of his nieces, daughter of his sister Isabel, 22 alqueires of wheat in the ribeira de Marvão with an obligation of 10 annual masses, and donated a vegetable garden in Ribeiro da Fonte to capitão João Barbo Mouzinho, as an entail, with an obligation of another 10 annual masses. Finally he donates capitão Francisco Mouzinho Barbo an entailed property he bought, which had an obligation of an annual mass, adding to it another obligation of five annual masses for his and his relatives souls.

The second entail was composed of a vineyard in the place of Palhais and houses in Montalvão, it would have a perpetual obligation of two annual masses and would be administrated by the institutor's nephew, Filipe Belo, who would appoint one of his children to succeed him.

Will of Simão Dias, expressing his wish to be buried in his parish church in Gavião, instituting an entail composed of his vineyard of Vinhas Novas with the obligation of two annual masses, and appointing as administrator his godson Amaro, to be followed by his son or another appointed heir. In case of absence of offspring or appointment, the administration should pass to the brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Rosário.

Will made by Manuel Tomás in which he expressed his wish to be buried in the main church of Vila Flor. He disposed that all the remaining assets of his will should be split in three equal shares, establishing three chapels, each one with a perpetual pious obligation of seven annual masses. He named his siblings António Gonçalves, Maria Barreiros and Isabel Miguéis to administer them. Each administrator would appoint, preferably, a son to succeed on the administration of each chapel as long as the world lasted.

The institutor named Fernando Soares, his son, as first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he would be succeeded by the legitimate son of his choice. If he had already died, or had no legitimate children to succeed him, the institutor appointed Aires, his grandson, son of João Cid and Isabel Soares, as administrator of the entail.

Will by which Marcos Mendes, Isabel Garcês' widower, fulfilling his wife's will, ordered the celebration of a perpetual annual mass for her soul in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, determining that this obligation should be supported with the revenues of houses he had in Lisboa. He left this entail to his niece, Isabel Mendes, indicating that she could not sell or exchange the houses for other properties. After her death, it had to be transmitted to a son or daughter of her choice.
Furthermore, the testator bequeathed houses in Rua Nova D'El-Rei, Lisboa, to his niece, which had been left to him by his mother with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 2 sung masses, each year, in the church of S. Julião. Those houses had to be passed to another son or daughter of her choice.

She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of "fornos de cal" located in Lisboa that his first wife Helena de Castro left to him. She established that he was due to order the celebration of masses for her soul in the Convent of Carmo, in Lisboa, and for his soul whenever he chose. Inácio Vieira da Maia is also the administrator of Camila Teles' chapel and Ausenda Eanes Leonardes' chapel. He designates his wife as heir of the chapel of Camila Teles, and Filipe Vieira Pinto, his cousin, as administrator of the chapel of Ausenda Eanes Leonardes.

The testator also orders him to buy a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis to support, each year, the ransom of a captive boy or girl in África; a public debt instrument of 40 000 réis to sustain, annually, 4 women in charge of praying for Maria Carvalho's soul in the chapel she had founded in the church of the convent of Santo António dos Capuchos of Lisboa; another public debt instrument of 20 000 réis which the heir should bequeath to the next chapel's administrator, who would be appointed by him, in order to provide for his/her sustenance. She declares that her body should be buried inside her chapel.

Will by which Diogo Fernandes da Rocha expresses his wish to be buried in the chapel of Rainha Santa in the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus of Lisboa. He establishes two entails for his children with pious obligations in his chapel. One with his third part and two public debt instruments in the Alfândega de Lisboa, which he bequeaths his son, António da Torre da Rocha, and his successors, with an obligation of a daily mass for his soul and half an annual of masses for the soul of his deceased wife, Isabel da Guarda. The other with the third part of his wife, Isabel da Guarda, and another public debt instrument, which he bequeaths his daughter, Maria da Rocha, and her successors, with an obligation of weekly masses for the soul of his brother-in-law, Francisco Lopes.
If the lineage of one of his children is extinguished, the entail shall pass to the surviving one. If both lineages are extinguished, the succession of the entail shall be chosen by appointment from them on.

She designated her niece, Maria Sardinha, Pedro Aires' daughter, to administrate it, obligating her and her descendants to support the celebration of 20 annual masses for her soul. After the death of the first administrator, the chapel would be transmitted to one of her children or, if she died without leaving offspring, to Duarte, Manuel Fernandes Magro's son. The testator also left half of an orchard and mills in Varche to her sister, Catarina Luís, Rui Gomes' wife, with the obligation that her or her heirs celebrated 10 masses in the cathedral of Elvas or in the church of S. Pedro. She declared that her body had to be buried in that church. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1633-08-22.

Will by which Maria Leitão, Ana Trigueiros and Margarida Trigueiros, João Leitão and Leonor Trigueiros' daughters, declared that, until the death of the last of them, the ones who survived would administrate their patrimony. After their demise, their estate would be inherited by António Trigueiros, their cousin, and subsequently passed to the descendants of his marriage to Maria de Barros. During his lifetime, he was allowed to sell, give or exchange whichever properties he wanted, except the lands (casal) in A dos Cunhados, Torres Vedras, whose revenues would perpetually support the celebration of 16 annual masses for the institutors' souls in the convent of S. António of Varatojo. If the testators' bodies were buried in the church of Espírito Santo of Monte Redondo, half of those perpetual masses would be prayed there. After their cousin's death, the entail composed of the properties in A dos Cunhados and the other remaining lands would be passed to a son or daughter of his choice. If he died without appointing a successor, the entail would be transmitted to his eldest son.

Guiomar de Eça, widow of Lopo Vaz de Sampaio, governador da Índia, expresses her wish to be buried in the Capela dos Reis Magos of the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa, which she had established with her husband in a previous contract. She declares that she donated all of her properties as a dowry to her son, Gaspar de Sampaio, when he married D. Antónia Henriques, under the condition that he would employ that money in revenue to establish a chapel with annual masses for their souls in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade. She also appoints Estêvão Madeira, cónego da Se de Lisboa, as visitor of her chapel, giving him a pension in exchange for his supervision over it. After his death, the administrator of the entail shall elect the new visitor. She designates her son as administrator of the chapel, and his children afterwards. If he doesn't have any heirs, he shall appoint the next administrator among their relatives.

If she had children, she could appoint a son or daughter to succeed her. The institutor also mentioned that he did not have immovable goods to incorporate into this chapel, but he wanted to sell all movable goods he had to buy them.

Will by which Pedro Botelho, do Conselho do Rei and juiz da Alfândega, and his wife, Isabel Eanes, express their wish to be buried in the monastery of S. Salvador of Lisboa. They declare that they were in possession of a farmstead with an olive oil mill and other houses in Lisboa which had belonged to Isabel Eanes' first husband, Afonso Eanes. He had bequeathed them to his wife, 36 years before, with an obligation of 90 annual masses in the church of S. Tomé of Lisboa: 30 for his soul and 60 for the soul of his first wife, Leonor Gonçalves. Pedro Botelho had made a contract with the priests of S. Tomé, 12 years before, to establish these masses, which they had fulfiled until then. They chose these properties for their third parts together with their houses and a store in Lisboa and establish an entail, which they bequeath their eldest son, Lopo Botelho, and his successors afterwards. The administrators shall order the masses established by Afonso Eanes and five annual masses for the souls of Pedro Botelho and Isabel Eanes in the church of S. Salvador of Lisboa. If Lopo Botelho dies without successors, the entail shall pass to his brother, Diogo Botelho, or to their sister, Beatriz, married to Pedro Moniz. If their lineage is extinguished, the future administrators will be chosen by appointment by the priests of Santo Elói.

They order their successors to support the celebration of annual masses in the chapel of S. João Baptista, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, where their bodies should be buried. They also declare that the heir of their houses in Pedras Negras, Lisboa, shall order an anniversary in the church of S. Mamede, as the owners of these houses were ordered to. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1478-11-05 and an opening deed issued on 1479-11-10.

Jerónimo de Abreu do Vale also bequeaths to his wife the vineyards entailed to the chapels of D. Vitória da Cunha, his first wife, Isabel da Cunha, his sister-in-law, Valentim da Cunha, his brother-in-law, and Maria da Cunha, his sister-in-law. His wife, D. Joana Tavares, is free to sell these entailed assets with their pious obligations.

He can appoint the next administrator among his descendants. If he dies without successors, the entail shall pass to Francisca's other cousin, Aires de Sousa de Castro, in the same way. She expresses her wish to be buried in her chapel of Jesus while the convent of Carmelitas she and her husband wish to establish isn't built.

Will made by Manuel Favela da Costa in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of an yearly mass celebrated in the chapel where his grandfather, João de Arruda, was buried, in the monastery of S. André, Ponta Delgada, where his body should also be buried. He named his son António Favela as first administrator with the condition that he would chose one of his children to succeed him. However, the foundation of the entail depended on the conclusion of the partition deeds of his father Jorge da Mota and grandfather João de Arruda, from whose inheritances he expected to receive a sum. Finally, he also appointed his son António Favela as administrator of the entail founded by his wife Violante Mendes.

Costa, Manuel Favela da (flor.1598-1600)

Will of Diogo de Palma and Elvira de Salazar, his wife, ordering their grave in the chapel of Madre de Deus, in the church of São Nicolau of Lisboa. They allocate the majority of a third of their assets, after their daughters' marriage dowries have been fulfilled. From a third of the assets, they entail some houses, in Lisboa, on Rua das Mudas, to fulfill the charges celebrated in that chapel and appoint Fernando Dias de Palma, their son and executor, as first administrator. He was to name the next administrator from among his sons and daughters. An exemplification of the will had to be given to the beneficiados of São Nicolau, who would keep the houses in the event of non-fulfillment of the charges.
Diogo de Palma was administrator of the chapel of Fernando Velho, appointing Fernando Dias de Palma, his son and executor, to administer it. If he died childless, he would nominate Beatriz Teixeira, his sister, to succeed him, or his children if she had already died.

The first, with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass celebrated wherever the administrator saw appropriate, for which she named her son Manuel Rodrigues and one of his children, chose by himself before his death, after him, with the same conditions. The second would have a perpetual mass obligation of two mass celebrated every week in the chapel of S. João Batista, in the Hospital of Ponta Delgada, where her parents, and herself after her death, were buried. She named her daughter Isabel Fernandes as first administrator and after her death, the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir, and those two masses should be celebrated by the closest relative.

Will by which the priest Afonso Franco established an entail, incorporating some assets located in Vimieiro, ir order to fulfil the pious obligations. He designated Manuel Rodrigues Batalha to be his heir and the chapel's first administrator, with the obligation to be ordered a priest. The chapel should be administered by a cleric who would appoint its successor, among other clerics who were sons of mechanical officers and farmers in the village.

He named his wife Catarina Gonçalves Chaves as first administrator of the entail with the faculty of appointing any of their sons at the moment of her death. If she passed away before appointing a successor, she would be succeeded his eldest grandson or his eldest male heir. Any administrator who committed lese-majesty crimes should be excluded from the administration.

Will made by João Franco Calvo in which he ordered, among other dispositions, that his reserved portion should be annexed to the reserved portion left by his deceased wife, Maria Cardoso, and from both reserved portions he founded an entail with a perpetual obligation of 20 masses celebrated in every year in the cathedral of Angra, where their bodies should be buried. He named his four children to administrate the entail in the following order: Matias Franco should administrate it for four years and Bárbara, Catarina and Maria should administrate it for three years each, and each of them could appoint their own eldest son or grandson to alternate with the sons of the others on the administration.

To administrate the entail he named, in this order, his sister Susana de Cristo, Gaspar Rodrigues Ferreira, Manuel Ferreira, the priests Brás Cardoso Ferraz and Francisco Ferraz. After the death of all of them, the last one should appoint the next administrator.

Will made by Henrique Fernandes Solis in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail and chapel, composed of several properties in Reguengo, Portalegre's district, with a perpetual obligation of five masses celebrated every year, celebrated in the mother church of Portalegre, where his body should be buried. He named his son Diogo Ramalho to administrate it, with the condition that he would appoint a successor from the institutor's bloodline, male or female, with the same condition. Every administrator that succeeded on the entail's administration would be obliged to annex half of his own reserved portion to the entail. Anyone who committed lese-majeste crimes would be deprived from the administration. If the bloodline became extinguished, the administration should be handled to the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento.

Solis, Henrique Fernandes (d.1630)

Will made by Belchior Golaio de Camões, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail and chapel, composed of properties in Vila do Crato. The derived income of the entailed properties should be spent, perpetually, on masses worth 100 réis each, all of them celebrated on the altar of Chagas, in the mother church of Crato. He named his wife Catarina Gonçalves as first administrator and after her death, the entail should be administrated, in this order, by Francisco Caldeira Carreiro, his wife Ana da Costa, and their eldest son after both of them were dead with the condition that he would appoint a successor with the same conditions, preferring the children of Manuel do Couto.

Camões, Belchior Golaio de (d.1697)

Will made by Maria Velez in which she ordered the foundation of two entails.

This entail would be composed of several properties in Portalegre with a perpetual mass obligation of a daily mass as long as the world lasted, and would be administrated by her nephew Manuel Vaz Delicado with the condition that he would ordain himself a priest, and after his death he should handle the administration of the entail to her niece Ana Velez. After the death of Ana, the succession should always continue on the eldest male heir.

The other entail would be composed of some houses in Boa Vista and other rural properties in Portalegre, with a perpetual mass obligation of four masses celebrated on the octave of Christmas and one more by easter. Will made by padre Diogo de Paiva in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual mass obligation of thirty masses celebrated every year in the hermitage of Chagas, that he was building in Ponta Delgada, with it's vault and altarpiece. He named his sister Violante de Paiva as first administrator and her daughter Maria da Ponte after her death. Maria should be succeeded on the administration by her elder son Brás, who would appoint a relative of the institutor to succeed him, and from there on the succession should continue by appointment. The institutor ordered that all administrators should always give account of the administration to the Provedor dos Resíduos.

He named his brother Manuel Fernandes and his sister Isabel Fernandes to alternate one another, one year each, on the administration of the entail. After the death of the first of them, the second would have the administration during his lifetime and then would appoint the closest relative of the institutor to administrate the entail with the same conditions.

He named his cousin Ana Semedo as first administrator and his nephew Afonso Mexia after her death, and if he had no children, he appointed his brother Miguel Rodrigues Semedo and from there on the administrator should appoint a relative of the institutor's bloodline with the same conditions, except clergyman and nuns.

He named his daughter Maria Antónia as first administrator with the condition that she would appoint the closest relative of her bloodline, son or daughter, male or female, with the same conditions. If had no children, then the administration of the entail would be handled to the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento.

Will made by Isabel Rodrigues, in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of two entails. The first entail would be administrated by her nephew Álvaro, son of Manuel Rodrigues, and his descendants after him and would have a perpetual mass obligation of ten masses celebrated every year in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Arronches, where her body should be buried. This second entail, composed of a rent of wheat in Besteirinha, outskirts of Arronches, would be administrated by padre Manuel Martins during his lifetime with the condition that he would celebrate three hundred masses for the soul of the institutor. Before his death he would appoint a successor who would administrate the entail with a perpetual mass obligation of thirty masses as long as the world lasted. The succession should always continue by appointment.

Pedro of Monforte, where her body should be buried. She named her brother Álvaro Pais as first administrator during his lifetime and her sister-in-law Maria Solteira after his death, with the condition that she would appoint a close relative to succeed her with the same conditions. The institutor disposed that the administrators would be obliged to distribute 20 alqueires of wheat as alms to the poor people of Monforte, on the day of The Ascencion of the Lord.

He named his brother Gaspar Martins as first administrator of the entail, with the condition that he and all his successors would apply, perpetually, 4.000 réis every year on the celebration of masses for his soul. Before his death, Gaspar would appoint an administrator to succeed him with the same conditions.

Margarida Borges also bequeaths her all other assets to Mécia Lourenço, her niece, with the pious obligation of one perpetual mass to S. João.

Catarina also left 10.000 in leases to her cousins Catarina de Sena and Isabel das Montanhas, 5 000 each, who should enjoy it during their lifetimes, and, after their deaths, this summs should be annexed on the entail.

Fernando, asks his will executors to finish the construction of his chapel in the church of the convent of São Salvador, applying the third part of his assets to it. He entailed a farmstead (quinta) in Panasqueira, the farmstead (quinta) of Louras in Verdelha and houses in Lisboa, obligating the chapel's administrators to sustain two chaplains, who would celebrate daily masses for his soul; to give, each year, 5 libras to the cathedral of that city and 16 libras to the convent of S. Domingos of Santarém. He appoints his brother, Afonso Esteves, to be the entail's first administrator, allowing him to choose his successor.

Sra. do Rosário, in Alter do Chão. She named Pedro Mendes Garcia as first administrator of the entail, and after his death he would be succeedes by padre Sebastião Garcia. After the death of padre Sebastião Garcia, the administration would be transmitted to Inês Garcia with the condition that she and all successors after her would order the perpetual celebration of thirty masses every year. Inês would appoint a successor with the same conditions. Maria Delicado also named Maria Garcia as administrator of the chapel founded by Pedro Torto, wich was also a chapel whose succession was ruled by appointment.
