Entail foundation deed by which Manuel Mendes Ferreira established an entail, incorporating several assets composed of houses, vegetable garden and olive groves in Sardoal and Abrantes in order to fulfill the pious charges. He designated his son André Mendes Ferreira to be its first administrator. The administrator should appoint the successor of this entail among his children.

Jorge, cardinal of Portugal, another for the soul of D. Jorge da Costa, archbishop of Braga, both his uncles, and another one for his own soul. Entail foundation deed by Rui Brandão, fidalgo da casa do rei. The founder reserves his "terça" and includes in it several urban and rural estates, the head of which is the "Torre de Pedro do Sem", located in the parish of S. Martinho de Cedofeira, outside the walls of Porto, to which the patronage of the church of S. Paio de Guimarei was attached. Rui Brandão appointed his son Luís Brandão, or alternatively Diogo Brandão, as the first administrator. The heirs of the entail would be the first-born sons, or daughters in the absence of male heirs. The heir had to be physically and mentally fit, excluding people of illegitimate descent, clerics, monks, friars and nuns. The administratores had to live in Porto, marry with their parents' consent, entail half of their "terças", use the Brandão's name and coat of arms, and pay an annual rent to Rui's daughters, who were nuns in the convents of S. Bento de Avé-Maria and S. Clara in Porto. Perpetual masses were to be celebrated in the convent of S. Francisco do Porto for the soul of the founder and his wife, Maria de Madureira. Three inventories were to be drawn up, containing the deed of foundation and the property, with the coat of arms of the instituter: one copy was to remain in the hands of the administrators, while the other two were to be kept in the Convent of S. Francisco, where the founder was to be buried, and in the Misericórdia of Porto.

Entail foundation deed by which António de Sousa de Macedo and D. Mariana de Lemercier, his wife, change clauses of a previous entail foundation deed issued on 1673-11-08. They establish an entail with houses in Lisboa, a farmstead in that city ("quinta de Nossa Senhora da Luz"), lands in Carnide, a rent (foro) in Azambuja, properties in Benavente and the captaincy of Ilha Grande de Joanes, Brasil, designating their son, D. Luís Gonçalo de Sousa de Macedo, Barão da Ilha Grande de Joanes, to administrate it. The institutors attach this entail to the chapel they had founded in the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus, where their bodies and those of their descendants would be buried and annual masses would be celebrated for their souls. D. Luís Gonçalo de Sousa de Macedo and his wife, D. Mariana de Távora, approved this deed.

Entail foundation deed by D. João de Sousa de Castro and D. Catarina de Nóvoa Henriques, in Melgaço, with all their properties, both inherited from his late parents, Lopo de Castro and Francisca de Cavedo, and bought by them, annexing this new entail to his parents' entail, founded in 1601. They also order the building of a chapel in Melgaço, united to the town's mother church, with some pious obligations. One of the masses will be celebrated in the chapel of the entail of Fecho, in Roussas, in the outskirts of Melgaço, founded by Lopo de Castro and Francisca de Cavedo.

Entail foundation deed by Álvaro Afonso and Grimaneza Pereira, his wife, in Quinta do Paço, in couto de Barbeita, in the outskirts of Monção, to their nephew, Rodrigo Afonso Pereira, son of Pedro Vaz Pereira and Genebra Fernandes, their nephew and niece. They also order the mass celebration in the chapel they ordered to build in the church of S. Salvador of Barbeita.

Entail foundation deed by Isabel Cabral, widow of João Álvares de Caminha, with the remaining part of the available portion of her husband and with her own available portion, composed of her houses in Rua Nova, in Lisbon, which will be the entail's head, and her farmstead (quinta) in Romeira, in the outskirts of Almada, to her son, Manuel de Caminha, appointed as her successor. The institutor also orders that the entail's administrators will administer the chapel she built in the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisbon, with the pious obligation of a perpetual daily mass for her and her husband's soul. Manuel de Caminha was present and accepted this institution, being mentioned also as institutor.

Entail foundation deed by which Rui de Pina, fidalgo da Casa do Rei, cronista-mor do reino and guardião da Torre do Tombo, and his wife, Catarina Vaz de Gouveia, establish an entail with the third part of their properties. They bequeath it to their son, Fernando de Pina, fidalgo da Casa do Rei, and his descendants. They also establish a chapel in the new cathedral of Guarda, with invocation of the Holy Spirit, where they shall be buried and to where the bodies of their parents shall be transfered, with the obligation of eight annual masses for their souls, the souls of their parents, and the souls of D. João II, his wife D. Leonor, their son D. Afonso, and D. Manuel I. If Fernando de Pina dies without descendants, the entail shall be bequeathed to one of his sisters, Leonor de Pina, or, if she also dies without descendants, to their other sister, Isabel de Pina, wife of Fernando Brandão. Fernando de Pina is present, and accepts the conditions.

Entail foundation deed by which Vasco Fernandes César and his wife, Inês Gonçalves Batavias, establish and entail with their third parts. They designate their eldest son, Luís César, as first administrator, and his descendants afterwards. They establish an obligation of two weekly masses and other annual masses in the chapel of Cinco Chagas de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo of the monastery of Santíssima Trindade, where they wish to be buried, to which they entail their houses in Lisboa. All the administrators of the entail must also succeed on the administration of the chapel established by Catarina Vaz, wife of Paio Lourenço, in the church of São Nicolau of Santarém, which they currently administered.

Entail foundation deed by which Bento de Baena Sanches established an entail, designating his son Francisco to be its first administrator. This entail has the obligation to celebrate masses, using the rents of somes houses located in Lisboa; a public debt instrument of 135 000 réis in Senado and another of 40 000 réis in Casa das Carnes; and other rents from a farm called "Massaroca", located in Sacavém. The successors are obligated to incorporate their legítima into this entail. After the death of his son, it should succeed his daughter Luísa, and after her death the eldest son of his brother João Sanches de Baena. He had a natural son called Pedro, friar of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, and established to the administrator the obligation to give him some rents from this entail.

Exemplification of will and codicil

Exemplification of the will and codicil of Lopo Fernandes, required by the monastery of São Francisco do Porto, where his chapel was located, in the presence of João Miz, "vassalo do rei", nephew of Lopo Fernandes and currently administrator of the chapel, who consentend to the delivery of the aforementioned certified copies to be kept in the monastery's archives. The administrator also agreed to paint an image of S. Jorge in the chapel.

Sale, quittance, and obligation deed by which the priests of the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas sell to D. Francisco de Almeida, fidalgo da Casa do Rei and comendador da Ordem de Cristo, widower of D. Ângela de Melo, and to his heirs and successors, the chapel of Santo Espinho of their church, to use as his family's burial place. He promises to ornament the chapel and to give a public debt instrument for the fulfilment of a daily mass for his and his relatives' souls. The priests accept and promise to fulfil the obligations and to never take the chapel's relics from their place.

Will by which André Coelho established an entail, with the remainder of his assets, after the partition of some of them between his wife, Leonor Ferreira, the selected confraternities and his sisters, nuns in the convent of S. Dinis of Odivelas, including his farmstead (quinta) of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Carnide, Lisboa. He instituted the pious obligation of celebrating masses in the church of the aforementioned convent or, if that was not possible, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He appointed his brother, Brás Coelho, as the entail's first administrador. He chose to be buried in the church of the convent of S. Dinis.

António Manuel's widow, establishes an entail with a public debt instrument of 200 000 réis in Almoxarifado de Santarém and rents in properties in Campo Maior, Arronches and Ouguela. She appoints her niece, D. Beatriz, D. Álvaro de Silveira's wife, to be its first administrator, obligating her and her successors to give 24 000 réis each year to the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa with the purpose of supporting the celebration of daily masses for her soul. She orders that this entail should be henceforth attached to the Afonso Mexia's entail and administrated by its administrator. The testator declares that her remains should be buried inside the chapel her father, Afonso Mexia, established in that convent. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1597-07-16.

Will made by João da Grã and his wife Leonor Fernandes in which they ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in the hermitage of Nossa Senhora do Egito, in Vila Franca do Campo. They appointed Jordoa Gonçalves to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by Leonor and from there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir.

Will by which D. Joana de Lis, António de Sousa Abreu's wife, bequeaths a saltern ("marinha da casa") in Setúbal to Jorge Neto Porras, her nephew, obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of annual masses for her mother's soul in the church of the convent of S. João of Setúbal, where the institutor's remains should be buried.
She also establishes another entail with a saltern ("marinha baja") in the same city, appointing Jorge de Moura, her nephew, to be its first administrator. He is obligated to change his family name and to marry according to the instructions dictated by his aunt.
The testator orders the executors of her will to establish a contract with that convent in order to assure the fulfilment of pious obligations for her soul, which would be sustained with the revenues of a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1613-06-17.

Will by which Gaspar Gil Severim expresses his wish to be buried in the chapterhouse of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa and establishes two entails, which he bequeaths to his two sons, Francisco de Faria Severim, and Manuel de Faria Severim.
He gives to his son Francisco, among other properties, the farm and houses in Lisboa which he had received through a dowry deed from Catarina Mateus Galvão, aunt of his first wife, Antónia de Faria, and which were entailed to an obligation of masses, which should pass to his eldest son.
If the lineage of any of his sons is extinguished, their respective entail shall be inherited by the other or by their successors.

Will by which Diogo Luís de Oliveira, husband of D. Leonor de Távora, expresses his wish to be buried in the monastery of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos da Arrábida, of which his nephew, Luís Francisco de Oliveira, morgado de Oliveira, is the patron, with the obligation of a daily mass for his soul. He entails all of his properties, which include public debt instruments, houses in Belém, and the revenue he intends to gain from debts owed to him, and appoints his wife as his universal heir. After her death, the entail shall pass to the padre António Luís de Oliveira, natural son of Diogo Luís de Oliveira and afterwards to Luís Francisco de Oliveira and his successors. This entail shall always be in the hands of the administrators of the entail of Oliveira. If their lineage is extinguished, the entail shall pass to the lineage of Diogo's niece, D. Beatriz. If her lineage is also extinguished, it shall pass to a second son of the house of Mogadouro. If all of these lineages are extinguished it shall be given to the Misericórdia of Lisboa.

Will by which Teresa Eanes da Fonseca, wife of Fernão Lopes Lobo, Cavaleiro, bequeathed all her remaining properties to her nephew, Gonçalo Rodrigues da Fonseca, establishing a chapel with those assets and obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of 3 weekly masses for her soul in perpetuity in the chapel of Santo Antão of the cathedral of Évora. She entails a public debt instrument and properties in Elvas, Arraiolos and Évora to an obligation of two daily masses in that chapel, and of keeping nine merceeiras. She also orders masses to be prayed in the churches of S. Francisco de Évora and of S. Francisco de Elvas, for the souls of her parents and sister. She appoints Mestre Afonso Guerreiro and Francisco de Freitas as administrators of her chapel, with the faculty of appointing the next administrator.

Will of Diogo Rodrigues Trombeta and Margarida Fernandes, his wife. The first to die must be buried in the churchyard of the church of Santa Maria de Sousel and, after the second, both must be buried in the chapel they establish in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Orada. They do not know if the chapels can be established in chapels, they determine that, if not, they should be established in the mother church of Sousel.
They also ordered the reconstruction of the ruined chapel of the Apostle São João, located on the outskirts of Sousel.
Pedro Álvares Batalhos is appointed as chaplain of the chapel they establish, to whom a cleric, or relative named Batalhos, should succeed.
They name Estevão Rodrigues, brother and brother-in-law of the institutors, executor and administrator of the chapel, and order their eldest son to succeed him. If Margarida Fernandes died first, her husband would be her executor and the first administrator, and only after his death Estevão Rodrigues.
It comes from a certificate, issued in 1622, in the possession of Barnabé Maldonado, escrivão da Provedoria de Estremoz.

Will of Luís Rodrigues de Elvas founding an entail and annexing to it his chapel of S. Francisco Xavier, in the church of S. Roque. He appoints António Gomes de Elvas, his great-nephew, son of his nephew João Rodrigues de Elvas, as his successor in his entail and in the entail of Caspolima, founded to him by his parents in their will. He also orders him to buy 2 000 cruzados in properties or a public debt instrument to entail to the entail or chapel founded by Diogo Fernandes de Aguilar and his brother, Padre João Manuel de Aguilar.

Will of Fernando Sardinha and Beatriz Vaz Raposa, his wife, founding two entail and chapels, with masses in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, in the church of S. Julião of Setúbal, each one of them founded with half of their assets. Fernando Sardinha appoints as successor of his entail, after his and his wife's death, Estêvão Sardinha, his brother, and Beatriz Vaz Raposo appoints as successor of her entail, after her and her husband's death, D. Maria, the daughter of her niece. The couple consents in both entail foundations.

Will by which Manuel Frade de Almada, resident in the farm of Lamarosa, prior of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, in Tentúgal, wanted to be buried in the main chapel of this church. He left all his immovable goods, namely a farm with its belongings, olive groves, vineyards, houses and lands, to his nephew Manuel Mendes Mexia. He was due to order the celebration of a daily masse for his and his parents' soul in the same church, and to pay for chaplain 20 000 réis. After his nephew's death, it should succeed his eldest son Francisco Mexia or other kin from the Mexias' succession line. The remaining part of his assets should be enjoyed by his nephew and nieces Manuel Mendes Mexia, D. Leonor Mexia, D. Leonor and D. Catarina. He also mentioned that he inherited the chapel of his mother Maria Mexia and his uncle Afonso de Almada Frade located in Olivença, and he nominated Fernando Mexia de Figueiredo to succeed in this entail. Followed by an approval deed dated 1680-11-25 and an opening deed 1681-02-20.

Will by which D. Cristóvão de Moura Côrte-Real and his wife, D. Margarida de Côrte-Real, marqueses de Castelo Rodrigo, express their will to be buried in the chapel of the Côrte-Reais, in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, which belongs to the entail administered by D. Margarida, if, by the time of their deaths, they haven't appointed another place. They establish a daily mass for their souls in that chapel, entailing to it the casal do Garajau, which is already entailed to another perpetual daily mass in the same chapel, and ask that Cristóvão's parents, who are buried in the monastery of Carmo and in the convent of S. Francisco, be transfered to the same chapel.
They then ask the king to confirm the entail of the Moura, which they establish. This entail shall be inherited by their eldest son, and his successors thereafter, together with the entail of the Côrte-Reais, unless the lineage of D. Cristóvão and D. Margarida is extinguished. In that case, the two entails shall be separated. If the Moura entail is separated from the entail of the Côrte-Reais, the heirs of the Côrte-Reais shall have the houses in Lisboa which belong to the Moura entail, however they'll have to pay their revenue to the successors of the Moura line. The line of the Côrte-Reais shall also keep the capitania da Praia, in the island of Terceira, which D. Cristóvão had received from the king.

Will by which Isabel de Melo establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, entailing to it her farmstead (quinta), the Moinho do Botelho, a public debt instrument of 9 600 réis in Almoxarifado de Santarém, and a public debt instrument of 8 000 réis in Casa da Mercearia de Lisboa. She appoints her cousin, Diogo de Melo de Castelo Branco, to be the first administrator of her entail, ordering him to support the celebration of a daily mass for her soul. She chooses to be buried in the church of the referred convent, in her grandfather's chapel, Amador Vaz de Sampaio. She asks the executors of her will to restore that chapel and to place in it an altarpiece with the image of the holy spirit. Her parents' mortal remains, which lied in the convent of S. Francisco of Xabregas, should be transferred and interred alongside those of her daughter. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1514-07-08 and an opening deed issued on 1514-07-19.

Will by which Francisco Botelho and his wife, D. Beatriz de Castanheda, establish an entail and a family pantheon in the main chapel of the convent of S. Domingos de Benfica, where Francisco Botelho's grandfather, Fernando Lourenço, was buried. They entail to their chapel 40 000 reis of interest: 10 000 for two annual masses, during their lifetime, and 30 000 for a daily mass after their deaths. They appoint their son, Diogo Botelho as their heir and administrator of the chapel and entail, and his successors, afterwards. They also appoint him administrator of the chapels established by Isabel de Proença, [Beatriz de Castanheda's mother], in the church of S. Nicolau de Lisboa, and by Rui de Castanheda [Beatriz de Castanheda's father].

Will by which Luís Gomes da Mata established an entail, appointing his eldest son Pedro António da Mata as its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. The administrator and his brother António Gomes da Mata are obligated to found an entail and to establish its succession conditions. This entail is composed of houses located in Lisboa, the office of Correio-Mor and other assets belonging to their third part of the inheritance. Their successors are obligated to add their third part of the inheritance (terça) to this entail.

Will made by João Rodrigues de Sá, Cavaleiro do Porto, before embarking in the King's fleet. He established a chapel in the convent of S. Francisco of Porto, where there should be celebrated masses, every year, for his soul. If the testator died outside the kingdom, the executors of his will would have to place his coat of arms in one of the chapel's arches. He also referred that the chapel had to be equipped with a cross, a chalice, a golden bowl and other ornaments. He asked his son, Fernando de Sá, not to take the Alcaidaria-mor do Porto from João Velho, his criado. The institutor determined that his soul should be his universal heir. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1415-07-28.

Will by which João Rodrigues Novais and his wife Maria de Almeida ordered the construction of a convent and a chapel's foundation. If would not be possible to build it, it should be contracted with other convent the foundation of a chapel. They wanted to be buried in this chapel, close to the altar and, because they were childless, they designated their niece D. Maria Coutinho, married to Diogo Gomes de Lemos to have the right of patronage. This right should be transmitted to her eldest son or daughter and always be in this family. If their niece died childless, it should succeed the heirs of his brother Aires Teixeira Pinto. The institutors left some legacies to the poor, captives, orphans and to some members of their family, using a public debt instrument of 200 000 réis in Misericórdia de Lisboa and other amounts of money.

António Manuel's widow, establishes an entail with a public debt instrument of 200 000 réis in Almoxarifado de Santarém and rents in properties in Campo Maior, Arronches and Ouguela. She appoints her niece, D. Beatriz, D. Álvaro de Silveira's wife, to be its first administrator, obligating her and her successors to give 24 000 réis each year to the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa with the purpose of supporting the celebration of daily masses for her soul. She orders that this entail should be henceforth attached to the Afonso Mexia's entail and administrated by its administrator. The testator declares that her remains should be buried inside the chapel her father, Afonso Mexia, established in that convent. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1597-07-16.

Will made by Estêvão de Brito Freire in which he declares he and his wife, D. Violante de Araújo, had agreed to establish an entail with their third parts, composed of several assets in Lisboa, Beja and Salvador da Baía. This entail should have the obligation of a daily mass celebrated in their chapel of Santo Estêvão, located in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus, in Lisboa, where they wished to be buried. He names his eldest son, Gaspar de Brito Freire, as first administrator of the entail and chapel, and his descendants, afterwards. Among his properties he lists the estate of Corte da Negra, in Beja, which his parents had bequeathed him as a chapel, and which he also passed to his son.
D. Violante de Araújo is present at the writing of this will and signs it, agreeing with the clauses concerning the institution of their entail and chapel, and with the annexation of her third part. Estêvão de Brito Freire allows her to revoke this confirmation if she wills it, under condition that his part should be kept.

Will of mestre João das Leis, Lourenço Pires' son, founding an entail with his available portion composed of his properties and appointing as its administrator his second male son and, after him, his firstborn and legitimate male son, imposing the pious obligation of some masses in the church of S. Lourenço of Lisboa. The testator also appoints Gomes, his son, as the successor of Afonso Pires in the administration of the chapel of Santa Catarina, in the church of S. Lourenço of Lisboa, founded by Constança Eanes Palhavã. Besides, João das Leis orders the payment of some bequests and debts to the chapels of mestre Pedro and D. Afonso Dinis, bishop, to buy properties, and appoints as attorney-in-fact (procurador) of the latter chapel the same attorney-in-fact of the chapel of mestre Pedro, administrating its books and assets.

Will by which Gaspar Gil Severim expresses his wish to be buried in the chapterhouse of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa and establishes two entails, which he bequeaths to his two sons, Francisco de Faria Severim, and Manuel de Faria Severim.
He gives to his son Francisco, among other properties, the houses in Lisboa which he had inherited from his parents, António Gil Severim and Catarina Lopes Morim. These houses had an obligation of thirty masses for the soul of António Gil Severim and a divine office and five masses for the soul of Catarina Lopes.
If the lineage of any of his sons is extinguished, their respective entail shall be inherited by the other or by their successors.

Will by which D. Joana de Lis, António de Sousa Abreu's wife, establishes an entail with a saltern ("marinha baja") in Setúbal, appointing Jorge de Moura, her nephew, to be its first administrator. He is obligated to change his family name and to marry according to the instructions dictated by his aunt.
She also bequeaths a saltern ("marinha da casa") in that city to Jorge Neto Porras, her nephew, obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of annual masses for her mother's soul in the church of the convent of S. João of Setúbal, where the institutor's remains should be buried.
The testator orders the executors of her will to establish a contract with that convent in order to assure the fulfilment of pious obligations for her soul, which would be sustained with the revenues of a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1613-06-17.

He bequeaths it to his youngest son, António de Alcáçova Carneiro, since his other sons died in the battle of Alcácer Quibir. He also donates two public debt instruments of 500 000 réis to his grandson, Pedro de Alcáçova de Vasconcelos, which shall be annexed to the entail of the House of Figueiró, of which he is heir through his mother, Joana de Vasconcelos, with the obligation of his successors keeping the Alcáçova surname.

He entails all of his properties, which include public debt instruments, houses in Belém, and the revenue he intends to gain from debts owed to him, and appoints his wife as his universal heir. After her death, the entail shall pass to the padre António Luís de Oliveira, natural son of Diogo Luís de Oliveira and afterwards to Luís Francisco de Oliveira and his successors. This entail shall always be in the hands of the administrators of the entail of Oliveira. If their lineage is extinguished, the entail shall pass to the lineage of Diogo's niece, D. Beatriz. If her lineage is also extinguished, it shall pass to a second son of the house of Mogadouro. If all of these lineages are extinguished it shall be given to the Misericórdia of Lisboa. Will by which Gaspar Pacheco established an entail with the third part of his assets, which was composed of houses in S. Paulo, Lisboa, houses in Sassoeiros, Cascais, lands in Santiago dos Velhos, a farmstead (quinta) in Algés, houses in Boavista, houses in Rua dos Esteiros, houses in Beco do Jardim and in Rua da Tanoaria, rents (foros) in Porto, a rent (foro) in Sintra, a public debt instrument of 1 000 cruzados in Almoxarifado de Torres Novas and a property (engenho) in Pernambuco. He designated his son, António Rodrigues Pacheco, to administrate it, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of 2 perpetual daily masses in the chapel, devoted to Nossa Senhora das Angústias, founded by the institutor in the monastery of S. Bento of Lisboa. As long as Frei Jacinto Pacheco was alive, he would be responsible for celebrating them. Each year, the administrators had to give 75 000 réis to the monastery to provide for the maintenance of the chapel and to pay for the masses. The institutor had already ordered the painting of an altarpiece.

Will by which the licenciado Afonso Pires Loureiro expresses his wish to be buried in the church of Nossa Senhora de Freixianda of Ourém, where he had been vigário. He establishes a chapel of the invocation of Nossa Senhora da Natividade, in the place of Suimo, to which he entails his properties. He designates Maria Leite, daughter of his nephew André de Loureiro, and his legitimized son, Sebastião, who was to marry her, as his universal heirs and first administrators of his entail. André de Loureiro would administer the chapel until they reached majority. He revokes a previous will he had made in 1612-08-18.

Will by which D. Cristóvão de Moura Côrte-Real and his wife, D. Margarida de Côrte-Real, marqueses de Castelo Rodrigo, express their will to be buried in the chapel of the Côrte-Reais, in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, which belongs to the entail administered by D. Margarida, if, by the time of their deaths, they haven't appointed another place. They establish a daily mass for their souls in that chapel, entailing to it the casal do Garajal, which is already entailed to another perpetual daily mass in the same chapel, and ask that Cristóvão's parents, who are buried in the monastery of Carmo and in the convent of S. Francisco, be transfered to the same chapel. They also establish an obligation of 20 000 masses, 10 000 for each one of them, 200 to be prayed in the convent of Calatrava, 400 in the convent of Alcántara, and the remaining ones in churches of Franciscan orders and others of their executor's choosing.

They then ask the king to confirm the entail they have established, consisting of the third part of their assets, which shall incorporate 40 000 cruzados from the lands of Cabeceiras de Basto, and houses in Lisboa. This entail shall be inherited by their eldest son, and his successors thereafter, together with the entail of the Côrte-Reais. If they have no sucession, however, the entail of the Côrte-Reais shall be separated from the entail of the Mouras, and the Moura entail shall be bequeathed either to D. Francisca de Távora, or to D. Isabel de Moura, D. Cristóvão's sisters, and to their descendants afterwards.

Côrte-Real, Cristóvão de Moura (d.1613)

Will made by André de Sousa Tavares in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with the perpetual obligation of four masses celebrated every week on his chapel in the church of S. Francisco's monastery, in Portalegre. He named his eldest son as first administrator of the entail and after his death the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. If this son had no male heirs, the administration should be handled to the second born son with the same condition, in ways that the male uncle should be preferred on the administration over the female niece. If none of his male or female daughters had children, then the entail should be transmitted to his brother Francisco de Sousa Tavares. All administrators were henceforth obliged to annex half of their own reserved portions to the entail by the time of their deaths. They should also bear the surname "Sousa Tavares" and use the coat of arms of Sousa and Tavares family, or, otherwise lose the administration. He ordered that all administrators should give five alqueires of oil in order to maintain a lamp permanently lit on the chapel of Espírito Santo, in Portalegre. Finally, he also left detailed instructions for the construction of a manor house on the estate of Abrunheira.

Will of Branca Álvares, ordering her grave in the monastery of São Francisco of Montemor-o-Novo, in the grave of António Leão, her father-in-law. She instituted a chapel in the monastery of São Francisco of Montemor-o-Novo, for which she left 100 000 réis in cash and to which she entailed various incomes. Her slave, named António, if she didn't do it in life, should also be sold, reverting the money to the chapel. She appoints Maria Quaresma as her executor and administrator of the chapel. If she did not accept the executor must be Tomé Álvares. If the chapel administrator failed to comply with the institution's determinations, the guardião of the São Francisco's monastery had to ensure it.

António de Castro, senhor da Casa de Monsanto, or to her second son, since her eldest son will inherit the entail of Monsanto.

Will of father Miguel Oliveira da Cunha, by which he decided to institute an entail with a chapel under the invocation of S. Miguel Arcanjo. The chapel was to be built and a retable was to be placed in it, with the image of S. Miguel in the centre and S. António and S. Brites on the right and left, in memory of his parents, António Rodrigues de Olvieira and Brites Figueira. The founder appointed his great-nephew, Francisco Pereira Pinto de Oliveira, as administrator. The administrators of the entail were to be male and to be called Miguel Oliveira da Cunha, as the founder, and to use his coat of arms.

Will by which Jorge de Albuquerque, do Conselho Ultramarino, cavaleiro professo da Ordem de Cristo, son of Fernando de Albuquerque, governador do Estado da Índia, expresses his wish to be buried in the chapel he and his second wife, D. Ana de Noronha, bought in the antechorus of the church of the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa.
He designates his only grandson, D. António da Silveira de Albuquerque, son of his deceased daughter, Beatriz de Albuquerque, and of Jerónimo da Silveira, as his universal heir. He bequeaths him all of his properties in Lisboa, Paio Pires and Torres Vedras as an entail. This entail shall be joined to and have the same clauses of succession as the entail of Afonso Mexia, established in 1550-10-03, which António da Silveira de Albuquerque had inherited from his grandmother, Beatriz Mexia. The administrator shall take a part of his entail's properties to order a daily mass for his soul in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade, rescue captives, marry orphans and establish two mercieiros in his chapel. His wife, D. Ana de Noronha, shall have the usufruct of a third part of the properties of the entail during her lifetime. If his grandson refuses these conditions, or dies without succession, the administration of the entail shall pass to the priests of Santíssima Trindade, who shall appoint a layman as the next administrator.
Jorge Albuquerque appoints his grandson as administrator of the chapel of his grandparents in the mother church of Beja. He also orders that the obligation of masses for the soul of his father, Fernando de Albuquerque, should continue to be prayed in the church of Nossa Senhora da Serra of Goa. This obligation was entailed to an orchard in that city, which he had received as a dowry upon his marriage to his first wife, Isabel de Sousa, and had given to his daughter, Beatriz de Albuquerque, at the time of her own marriage.

Will of João Gramacho ordering his burial in the churchyard of the cathedral of Silves. He entails the assets of his third part, composed of the Ferragudos' farm, entrusting Isabel Gramacho, his daughter, and the one with whom she marries, to make a chapel in the churchyard of the Cathedral of Silves, of the invocation of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires. The administrator should alsofinish building the church of São Brás, which the institutor had built, and should celebrate some of the charges in that temple. If Isabel Gramacho did not accept, the entail would pass to Jerónimo Gramacho, her brother. If Jerónimo Gramacho also did not accept, it would pass to Tomé Gramacho, his brother. If none of his children wanted to accept it, it would be given up for auction.

They instituted an entail, on the Quinta de Caria, entailing the assets of their third parts to fulfill the charges, celebrated in the Cathedral of Viseu. They appoints the surviving one of them as first administrator, and after their death Simeão, their youngest son. If he died, the entail would pass to Manuel Coelho, their second son, and only if he could not administer him, to João Pais, their first-born.

Will by which Manuel Frade de Almada, resident in the farm of Lamarosa, prior of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, in Tentúgal, wanted to be buried in the main chapel of this church. He left all his immovable goods, namely a farm with its belongings, olive groves, vineyards, houses and lands, to his nephew Manuel Mendes Mexia. He was due to order the celebration of a daily masse for his and his parents' soul in the same church, and to pay for chaplain 20 000 réis. After his nephew's death, it should succeed his eldest son Francisco Mexia or other kin from the Mexias' succession line. Will by which Gaspar Rebelo de Abreu declares he had acquired the chapel of Santo Onofre from the priests of the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa, where he and his wife wished to be buried, and that they had established a daily mass for their souls, entailed to a public debt instrument in the Alfândega of Lisboa. He and his wife bequeath part of their third parts to their eldest son, Pedro Gomes de Abreu, to buy another public debt instrument which shall be applied to the chapel. Gaspar Rebelo de Abreu declares he is claimant in a conflict over the possession of the entail of Cata-que-Farás, which he hopes his eldest son will win. If he inherits this entail, the public debt instrument shall be annexed to it, and the masses of that entail, which were prayed in the church of Conceição, must be changed to the chapel of Santo Onofre. If he doesn't inherit the entail, the chapel and public debt instrument shall pass to his successors regardless. Helena Bota is present and signs the will, authorizing its clauses.

The entail shall pass to the firstborn sons, but if any descendant is a cleric, he will have priority in the administration. Will chart of Afonso da Cunha, capitão-mor de Alvor. He determined that his body had to be buried in the grave of Álvaro de Ataíde, since his chapel was being built at that moment in Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Alvor. His wife, Guiomar Simões, would be responsible for choosing the patron saint of the chapel, where the testator's remains would be deposited and a weekly perpetual mass would be celebrated for his soul. The future administrators of that chapel would be obligated to maintain it and to preserve its ornaments.
The institutor established another chapel, entailing to it all the assets he had inherited from Aldonça de Arvelos, his cousin, namely two watermills in Lagos, houses on Rua de Pedro Borges, in that city, and unspecified rents (foros). The revenues of those properties would support the celebration of a perpetual mass every friday wherever his body would be buried. He designated his wife to administrate it, asking her to entail the houses in which they lived in Alvor to the chapel. She would be succeeded by her nephew, Francisco de Freitas, who would transmit it to his eldest son.

Will chart of Manuel da Cruz, ordering his grave in the hermitage of Santo Amaro, in Cortiça. He nominates Joana da Paz, his wife and executor, as the first administrator of the chapel that he instituted in the brotherhood of Santo Amaro, in that hermitage. After her death, the chapel was to be administered by his nephews, sons of Maria Simões, his sister, leaving her wife to choose the one she considered best to fulfill the charges. The following administrators would be appointed by the previous. In case of non-compliance of the charges, the administration should pass to the brotherhood of Santo Amaro.

The third one would also have an obligation of masses in Castelo de Vide and would be administered by Violante Brandão, and afterwards by one of her sons or daughter, who would be chosen by appointment.

Will chart by which D. Catarina da Rocha, Baltasar da Silva's wife, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, entailing part of her patrimony. She asks the executors of her will to buy the chapel of S. Jorge of that convent, where she and her husband should be buried. The institutor appoints the latter to be the entail's first administrator, obligating him to celebrate annual masses for her soul, to spend part of its annual revenues sustaining the ransom of captives and in the marriage of orphan girls. Baltasar da Silva should be succeeded by Diogo Lopes da Rocha, her brother. After his death, the entail would be administrated by the prior of that convent.
Catarina da Rocha also declares that if the executors choose not to establish a chapel in that convent, they could use part of her assets to found a college dedicated to the study of arts and theology. There, it would be instituted a chapel, where her remains would rest and masses should be celebrated for her soul. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1615-02-28.
