Agreement deed by which Estêvão Eanes Bretão, mercador, entails lands (herdades) in the outskirts of Lisboa to the chapel of Santa Maria and Santo Estêvão of the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, which he founded. The administrators of the entail are obligated to give 164 libras to that convent each year with the purpose of supporting the celebration of masses for the institutor's soul.

Agreement deed between Afonso Mexia, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei and Escrivão da Fazenda do Rei, and the friars of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, by which the former gives them 4 marcos de prata to buy the area of their church where he would erect a chapel. He commits himself to donate 15 000 réis each year to that convent with the purpose of supporting the celebration of annual masses for his soul. In exchange, the friars should fulfil those pious obligations and maintain the chapel clean. Afonso Mexia also declares that only himself and his descendants are allowed to have their remains buried inside his chapel.

Approval and addition deed by which Estêvão da Guarda, with the grant of Sancha Dinis, his wife, entails Quinta da Sisana, located on the outskirts of Lisbon, an oven and other assets, some of which donated by D. Afonso Sanches, bastard son of D. Dinis, to fulfil the charges of the chapel that they had established in the monastery of São Vicente de Fora. The charges that should be celebrated are determined, as well as the succession in the administration. The administrator should be the eldest son and in case of extinction of the lineage, the city council of Lisbon.

He entails to this obligation a public debt instrument.

Álvaro entails to it a public debt instrument of 20 000 reis, with the obligation of a daily mass.

They also promise to pray the obligation of two daily masses in the chapel. Contains a licence and a letter-of-attorney, both dated 1675-08-07. Bond by which Francisco Botelho, fidalgo da Casa do Rei, and D. Beatriz de Castanheda, his wife, establish a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos de Benfica, Lisboa, in the main chapel, where Francisco Botelho's grandfather is buried, with an obligation of three annual masses and a daily mass. They entail to it 40 000 reis of interest and foros in Frielas. The priests of the convent donate them the chapel and promise to fulfill its the obligations. Contains a letter-of-attorney. Chapel foundation deed by which D. Gonçalo Vaz de Castelo Branco, Regedor da Casa do Cível, and D. Beatriz Valente, his wife, established a chapel in the church of S. Martinho of Lisboa, entailing to it the third part of their assets, which included salterns (marinhas) in Póvoa, lands (casal) in Arruda and houses in Rua de Cata-que-farás, Lisboa. The revenues of those assets would support the celebration of annual masses for their souls and for the souls of the past administrators of the entail of Póvoa ("morgado da Póvoa"). After their deaths, the chapel would be administrated by whomever succeeded in the administration of that entail. The institutors determined that their bodies had to be buried in that chapel. To fulfil the will of Beatriz Eanes, Beatriz Valente's grandmother, who asked her granddaughter to support the celebration of annual masses for her soul in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, and to honour D. Violante's soul, the institutors determined that the future administrators had to give, each year, 50 réis, wheat and wine to that convent.

Chapel foundation deed by which Diogo Saraiva and his wife Isabel Mendes incorporated several properties and rents of cereal, wine, chestnuts and olive oil, in order to fulfill the chapel's obligations. They wanted to build, at their own expense, the chancel of the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Penelas, on the outskirts of Lamego. The administrators would be obligated to maintain the hermitage and to ensure the cult. They designated their son, Doutor Domingos Saraiva, to be its first administrator and to be responsible for choosing between one of his brothers, or between one of his nephews, the sucessor of this entail.

Chapel foundation deed by which D. Gil Eanes da Costa and D. Joana da Silva, his wife, establish a chapel in the chancel of the church of the Convent of Nossa Senhora de Almoster, where they had their grave. Among other assets, they entail two public debt instruments, in the amount of 60 000 réis, paid at the Távola da Ribeira de Santarém. D. Joana annexes the chapel established by D. Catarina, daughter of Gil Eanes da Costa, which she administers, to this new chapel, and annexes properties to it. D. Catarina was buried in the chancel of that convent and the charges could be celebrated in the monastery of São Marcos, in Montemor-o-Velho, or in any other temple.

Chapel foundation deed by which Estêvão da Guarda and Sancha Domingues, his wife, establish a chapel in the monastery of São Vicente de Fora. They established the obligation to celebrate masses and to light a candle in this church, using the rents of a farm, a "forno" and houses that were donated by Afonso Sanches and D. Teresa. Sancha Domingues would be in charge to fulfill the obligation by the death of her husband, but if she remarried, the obligation would be transmitted to a first born legitimate son or daughter.

Chapel foundation deed in which Gonçalo Rodrigues Marques declares that he has bought the chapel of "Cabeça Santa", in the convent of S. Elói, in Porto, with the intention of establishing his own chapel. To achieve this, he changed the chapel's invocation to St. Gonçalo, the Saint he was named after, and ordered his remains buried there. The institutor entailed 110,000 reis of interest in the Almoxarifado of Porto. He appointed his son António Rodrigues Marques, almoxarife of the comarca of Porto, as the first administrator. The entail was to be inherited by the first-born male son.

Chapel foundation deed by which Jerónimo de Araújo Peixoto, abbot of the Castelo de Penalva's church, instituted a chapel, invoking Nossa Senhora da Guia, in Quinta do Salgueiral. He entailed the aforementioned farm to fulfill the charges. It was up to the administrator to appoint the successor. If he didn't nominate anyone, the administration should be left to Catarina de Araújo Peixoto, his sister. In lack of an administrator, the administration would be left to the Misericórdia de Penalva.

Chapel foundation deed by Manuel Ribeiro ordering the celebration of masses in the chapel he previously founded with his late wife, Maria Antunes, in Misericórdia of Viana do Castelo and annexing more assets, bought by him after his wife's death, to the first chapel they founded. He appoints as first administrators of his chapel his nephew and niece, licenciado Baltasar Barbosa de Araújo and Catarina Ribeiro Maciel, his wife. If they do not have offspring when Catarina Ribeiro dies, Baltasar Barbosa de Araújo will enjoy the chapel's income in his life and, after his death, this chapel will be annexed to the chapel founded by Manuel Ribeiro and Maria Antunes, currently administrated by licenciado Gaspar Portes Ribeiro and Isabel Barbosa de Aguilar, his wife.

Chapel foundation deed by which Doutor Gonçalo Leitão de Vasconcelos contracted with the priests of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Lisboa, to sell him a chapel in this church. He obliged himself to complete the chapel's works and to give to the church 28 000 réis at interest for the celebration of masses, for its works and for the oil of the candles.

Chapel foundation deed by which João da Fonseca, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, and Margarida de Alcáçova, his wife, established a chapel in the church of S. Bartolomeu of Lisboa. They designated their son who would inherit the lordship (senhorio) of Ilha das Flores to administrate the entail after the death of his parents, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for their souls in that church, where their bodies would be buried.

Chapel foundation deed by Doctor João de Coimbra, provisor in the Archbishopric of Braga. The founder declares that he had previously received permission from the King to acquire property to be incorporated into a chapel he had built in honour of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, next to the church of São João do Souto in Braga. His nephew, Cristóvão de Coimbra, would be the first owner and administrator of the chapel, to be succeeded by his first-born son, with the exception of clerics, illegitimate children and those who had committed lese-majeste crimes. The estates could not be leased to "fidalgos", "cavaleiros" or "oficiais do rei", but only to farmers and labourers. Every year, during the mass of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the chaplain would read the deed of foundation to keep the memory of the founder alive.

Chapel foundation deed by Beatriz Gouveia, Doutor Álvaro Vaz's widow, through which she establishes an entail with her farmstead (quinta) of Malvasia, in Sacavém, instituting the pious obligation of celebrating masses in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Humildade, in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. She appoints her son, Pedro Álvares de Gouveia, as the entail's first administrator, after whose death it would pass to his offspring. She chooses to be buried in that same chapel, where all her descendants should be interred. This document is already described in this entail archive, in VINC000897 BG EA/002.

He entailed assets to ensure the celebration of the previously contracted charges. The institutors determined that the pious obligations would be supported with the revenues of houses on Rua dos Banhos, Judiaria and Campo do Souto. They appointed Vasco Pires, Pedro's illegitimate son, as its first administrator.

She appointed Cristóvão de Melo to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest son.

Chapel foundation deed by which D. Isabel, widow of Doutor António Correia de Sá, Corregedor da Corte, moved the chapel established by the fidalgos Fernando Correia and Beatriz Gonçalves de Aguiar, his wife, to the church of Santa Justa of Coimbra, fulfiling her late husband's wish. She committed herself to erect a new chapel in that church dedicated to S. João Batista, which would become a family mausoleum, and to furnish it with the necessary ornaments. The prior and beneficiados of that church would be responsible for celebrating 2 annual masses for the founders' souls.
The institutors had initially found the chapel in the convent of S. Francisco of Évora. Their successor, Duarte Sá, had been the first to change the chapel location, moving it to the mosteiro de Santa Cruz of Coimbra. With the King's approval, he had sold the entailed properties in Évora and bought assets in Coimbra to incorporate in the entail, namely houses in Rua de Santa Sofia and 2 olive groves in Maínça and Monte Olivete.

Chapel foundation deed of Beatriz de Gouveia by which she declared that she had a chapel of invocation of Nossa Senhora da Humildade, in the cloister of the Convent of São Domingos de Lisboa, where she wanted to be buried. She left the third of her assets to her son Pedro Álvares de Gouveia, which included the farm of Malvasia, located in Sacavém, with the obligation to fulfil the pious charges. After his death, it should succeed his children in this administration.
Followed by a letter of attorney and a letter of possession dated 1610-06-19, passed by Pedro Álvares de Gouveia to Gonçalo Alves, in order to take possession of the farm of Malvasia.

Chapel foundation deed by Pedro da Grã. The founder explains that the reason he decided to found the chapel was because of the benefits that masses bring to souls. For this reason, he established a chapel in the church of Santiago da Cividade, where perpetual masses would be celebrated. The first administrator was to be his brother Manuel da Grã, who had the power to appoint one of his relatives as his successor, preferring a man but accepting a woman. The founder bequeathed property to the chapel, but also left 1,000 cruzados to be used for the purchase of other properties. Two-thirds of the income was to be spent on pious obligations, such as masses and the marriage of orphans. The documents relating to the chapel were to be recorded in the "Livro das Capelas" of the Juízo dos Resíduos de Braga, to whom the institutior also demanded constant vigilance in the fulfilment of the pious duties. The administrator had to live in Braga and keep a key to the chapel. Two "tombos" of the chapel were made.

He appointed he and his wife to be its first administrators and after their death their son or daughter, or their nephew Diogo Mendes de Castro. This entail is composed of unspecified assets.

Chapel foundation deed of the chapel of Santa Maria Madalena, instituted by D. Joana de Sá, in the church of the College of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Coimbra. The chapel was purchased for 100 000 réis and the institutor undertakes to give, annually, 25 000 réis of interest to the college, to fulfill the charges and 2 000 to the chapel's building, entailing assets that provide these income. Both the foundress and her family were to be buried in the chapel. The college is prohibited from asking for a reduction in the charges and the institutor undertakes to decorate the chapel and buy all the necessary utensils.
It contains a letter of attorney of D. Joana de Sá to Manuel Fernandes (dated 1622-11-11), and a license granted by Frei Estevão de Santa Ana, provincial of the Order of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, for the institution of the chapel (dated 1622- 11-09). Following two consent deeds (dated 1622-11-13) by which D. Joana de Sá and D. Mécia de Carvalho da Silveira, her mother, agreed with the terms of the contract.

Chapel foundation deed by which Nuno Álvares, cidadão do Porto, and Maria Dias, his wife, established a chapel in the convent of S. Francisco of Porto, determining that, every year, a certain quantity of wheat (20 alqueires), taken from their farmstead in Santa Maria do Vilar ("quinta do Bailouro"), had to be given to that institution to support perpetual pious obligations for their souls. The chapel, which had been erected near the convent's cloister, would also be used as a mausoleum by the institutors' family. They designated their son-in-law, Diogo Brandão, to administrate it.

Chapel foundation deed by João Dias Leite, by which he decided to institute a chapel in the newly built church of Santa Cruz. He appointed his nephew Teodoro Leite as administrator. He and all the administrators had several obligations, namely to be members of the Brotherhood of Santa Cruz and to use the family coat of arms. Succession would pass primarily through first-born sons, excluding illegitimate children. A copy of the deed of foundation was to be inserted in the Livro das Capelas and another in the archives of the Brotherhood of Santa Cruz.

Chapel foundation deed by which Domingos Nunes and Ana Maria Rodarte, his wife, entail the third part of their assets, including houses in Lisboa and 30 silver vases, with the purpose of supporting the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for their souls in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, where their bodies and those of their successors would be buried. They designate their grandson, Doutor João Coelho Rodarte, Catarina Rodarte's son, to become the chapel's first administrator, determining that he should transmit it to his eldest son at the time of his death.

Chapel foundation deed by which capitão Miguel Luís Peleja and his wife, Domingas Nunes, revoke the previous contracts they had made with the Irmandade do Espírito Santo of the hermitage of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios de Alfama, dated 1667-04-14, 1669-03-14 and 1669-10-26. They establish a daily mass for their souls in the altar of Jesus of that hermitage, to which they entail their properties, including houses in Alfama which already had other obligations of masses to the church of S. Miguel de Alfama. They designate capitão Rafael Nunes da Silveira, nephew of Domingas Nunes, as first administrator, with capacity of appointing the next one. If he doesn't appoint a successor, he shall be succeded by his bastard daughter, D. Mariana, and her descendants. If her lineage is extinguished, the entail shall pass to the Irmandade do Espírito Santo. They designate António Borges, son of Francisco Borges, as their first chaplain.

Codicil of Diogo Lopes de Sequeira appointing for his executor Frei Plácido de Tibães, abade form the monastery of São Bento o Novo in Lisbon. He has an agreement with the padres of this monastery to build a monastery of the Order of São Bento in his houses in Alandroal, to which he and his wife donates their "terças". If it is not possible to build the monastery, they should build a chapel with the invocation of Nossa Senhora da Consolação.

They revoke the appointment of their niece Beatriz Gonçalves and nominate in first place Maria Serrão, sister of Beatriz, under the condition of getting married with the previous authorization of their parents, and in second place Margarida, sister of the above Beatriz and Maria. The institutor also declared that she wanted to give two slaves to her daughter Luísa and to her son-in-law Fernando de Sousa. This entail is composed of an oil press located in a place called "Olalhas", on the outskirts of Tomar. Followed by an approval deed dated 1676-10-02.

Codicil by which Garcia Rodrigues de Távora revokes his previous will and codicil. He orders the employment of the remaining part of his properties in the foundation of a female monastery of the order of S. Bernardo, under the regular observance of the order of Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. This monastery should receive nuns belonging to his family and to other noble families in need who should pray two daily masses for his soul. He asks his brother, Lourenço Pires de Távora, to fulfil his will and to build this monastery, of which he shall be the patron, and after his death, his eldest son and their successors.

Codicil by which Bento Gonçalves de Sequeira, Escrivão das Fianças do Rei, designated his grandson, Bento Gonçalves de Sequeira, to administrate the entail he had previously established, since his son, Belchior de Burgos, died without leaving descendants. The institutor determines that during the minority of his grandson, the entail had to be administrated by their parents.
He also added a rent of 2 000 réis taken from the farmstead (quinta) of Pampulha and houses in an unidentified place to his entail. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1570-04-26.

Codicil (extract) of Luís de Melo da Silva founding an entail and appointing his sister, D. Maria, as his universal heir. The testator also orders that the heir of his entail has the pious obligation of a perpetual daily mass in the monastery of Madre de Deus of Xabregas, in Lisboa, where he wants to be buried if he dies in Portugal. To this mass will be present twelve old and poor knights or soldiers, founding a "mercearia". If he dies in India, the mass will be celebrated in the monastery of Madre de Deus of Goa.

Composition deed between the monastery of S. Bento da Vitória do Porto and Simão de Andrade, citizen of Porto. The monastery ceded to Simão de Andrade, his wife and heirs, a chapel to be built in the new church of the monastery. It should be the first chapel immediately after the bars and next to the church crossing, on the side of the cloister. The chapel would have a retable in which the couple would place an image of S. Simão. Simão de Andrade, his wife and subsequent administrators of the chapel had the right to bury themselves there, on the floor or on the walls, and to place their coat of arms there. The monks had the right to use the chapel to celebrate mass, as well as a daily and perpetual mass for the souls of the institutors. In return, the couple entailed houses in Porto and cereal rents, and left 200.000 réis to the construction of the chapel.

Contract and bond deed between the nuns of the convent of Nossa Senhora of Almoster and D. Gil Eanes da Costa, who also represented his wife, D. Joana da Silva, concerning the entrance of their two daughters, D. Lourença de Meneses and D. Beatriz de Sousa, in that institution and the erection of a family mausoleum. The couple gave 500 000 réis to the convent, which would be employed in the painting of an altarpiece to the main chapel, the construction of the mausoleum and in the acquisition of a public debt instrument or a property, whose revenues would guarantee the maintenance of the chapel. D. Gil and D. Joana also gave a public debt instrument of 9 600 réis in Almoxarifado de Santarém to the convent, which would support the celebration of perpetual annual masses for their souls and for the souls of their descendants. Both of the parties agreed that, following the deaths of D. Gil and D. Joana, the legitimes which belonged to their daughters would be inherited by the successor of D. Gil Eanes da Costa's entail. Nicolau of Lisboa and the executors of Fernando Velho's will, Diogo de Palma and Álvaro Barradas, by which the latter found a chapel in that church. The beneficiados give them the space where it should be erected the chapel of Madre Deus and the family mausoleum, committing themselves to celebrate weekly masses for the institutor's soul. In turn, the chapel's administrators are obligated to give, each year, 6 000 réis to that church. Followed by a carta de autoridade issued on 1533-12-13.

Contract and bond deed between the friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa and Luís da Silva, son of João Gomes da Silva, who had been Vedor da Fazenda do Rei and membro do Conselho Régio, by which they gave to him the convent's sacristy, where a family mausoleum should be erected to receive the bodies of his parents and of the future administrators of the entail established by his father. The friars also committed themselves to celebrate a perpetual daily mass in that chapel. Luís da Silva, in turn, donated a public debt instrument of 50 000 réis and 200 cruzados to that convent, with the purpose of supporting the celebration of masses and to guarantee the future improvement of the sacristy.

Contract and bond deed by which António da Rocha Barém, administrator of Catarina da Rocha's entail and Alcaide-mor de Noudar, buys the chapel of Santo António to the friars of the convent of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa, where the remains of the institutor and of her successors would be buried, for 350 000 réis. The administrator and his descendants are obligated to pay 63 400 réis, each year, for the celebration of annual masses for the soul of Catarina da Rocha, the lighting of two lamps and the general maintenance of the chapel. Contract and bond deed signed by the prior and friars of the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça and by Doutor Rodrigo Botelho, executor of the will of the late D. Diogo de Meneses, by which the former donated the main chapel to the successors of the House of Ericeira and Louriçal, allowing the burial of the bodies of D. Henrique de Meneses, Governador da Índia, D. Diogo de Meneses and his descendants in there. The friars committed themselves to celebrate 3 perpetual daily masses and 2 anniversary masses for the soul of the Conde da Ericeira. In turn, Rodrigo Botelho promised to give 25 000 cruzados to the convent, whose friars would be responsible for buying assets to entail to the chapel. Furthermore, Rodrigo Botelho delivered tapestries that had belonged to the deceased, thus fulfilling his last will. It is referred that the House of Ericeira and Louriçal was administrated, at that time, by D. Fernando de Meneses. Contains a copy of a letter of attorney and various court sentences.

Contract and bond deed celebrated between the religiosos of the São Francisco of Évora monastery and João Afonso de Aguiar and his wife Maria Esteves. The latter had built a chapel in that monastery, where they wanted to be buried. This contract defined the charges that were to be celebrated upon and appointed Garcia de Melo to be the first administrator during his lifetime. After his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest male son. The first ones agree with the clauses expressed in the contract.

Contract and bond deed by which Francisco da Fonseca and his wife Maria Salvado, the institutor's daughter, contracted with the priests of the Church of São Tomé to build a chapel following the institutor's will. This entail is composed of a farm in Vale Escuro, with its houses, and fruit trees located on the outskirts of Lisboa.

They established to give to the priests 27 000 réis, 500 réis for wax and 2 000 réis for chapel's work, using the rents of a "herdade" located in Azambuja. They also determined that the administrators of the chapel should be the successors of their entail. This document has inserted a proxy of D. Margarida de Noronha dated 1594-08-30.
