Will chart of D. Manuel de Moura Manuel. Establishes a chapel or entail, entailing goods. He appoints Henrique de Moura Manuel, his nephew, as administrator, with his legitimate descendants to succeed him and establishes the celebration of charges in his church of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França.

Will chart of Padre Simão Pereira Sarmento founding an entail and two chapels of masses in the church of Santíssima Trindade, in Lajes do Pico, appointing Simão Pereira da Câmara, his nephew, as his successor and administrator or Diogo Pires, if the first one is absent or dead at the time of his own death. He also appoints Simão Pereira da Câmara, or Diogo Pires, instead, as administrator of the chapel of André Rodrigues, his grandfather, clarifying the succession clauses of this chapel. Besides, the testator bequeaths some properties he received as payment of a debt of his brother-in-law, Rui Gil da Câmara, to the son-in-law and daughter of the latter, Gaspar Gonçalves Carvalhal and Filipa de Escobar, if her brother is already death at the time of the testator's death, with the pious obligation of an annual chapel of masses for the souls of his sister, Isidora Pereira, and brother-in-law, Rui Gil da Câmara.

Will chart of Vicente Álvares, ordering to be buried in the church of Misericórdia of Mexilhoeira Grande. He entails assets, to fulfill the charges, appointing Manuel Fernandes, his brother, as administrator, and with his income he must have his son, Manuel, nephew of the institutor, ordained. The entail shall pass to the firstborn sons, but if any descendant is a cleric, he will have priority in the administration. The administrator could also appoint the successor, in which case that clause would be respected.
It also has an approval deed (dated 1586-05-07).

Will chart by which Catarina Gonçalves, Vasco Esteves' widow, establishes an entail with houses in Lisboa and lands in Charneca, appointing her brother, Fernando Gonçalves, to be its first administrator. The latter and his descendants are obligated to support the celebration of annual masses for her soul in church of the convent of Santíssima Trindade of that city, where the testator's body should be buried next to her daughter's remains. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1463-12-07.

Will chart by which Beatriz Taveira, widow of Pedro da Costa, Desembargador do Rei D. Afonso V, established an entail, incorporating in it houses in Lisboa, a farmstead in Lumiar ("quinta da Torre"), lands (casal) in Monção, outskirts of Santarém, and properties in Santa Catarina. She designated her nephew, Diogo Dias, Cavaleiro da Casa do Rei, to become its first administrator, determining that him and his descendants had to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for her soul and the souls of her relatives in the chapel of Santa Maria of the church of S. João da Praça of that city, where her body would be buried. After the death of Diogo Dias, the entail would be inherited by his eldest son. If his lineage became extinct, the priests of S. João da Praça had to elect someone to be the entail's administrator.

Will chart by which Baltasar Mendes dos Reis wanted to be buried in the Monastery of São Francisco de Évora, where his father Manuel Gomes de Melo was buried. He founded the chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Reis dos Presos da Praça, in Évora, designating his illegitimate son Francisco de Melo to be its administrator. He also designated him to be the administrator of the Quinta de Santo António, in Pêra Manca, of which he was the current administrator.

Will chart made by D. Clemência de Noronha e Mendonça, daughter of Antão Martins Homem de Noronha, Capitão da Praia da Ilha Terceira, and D. Joana de Mendonça. She declared that she had duly endowed her chapel of Santíssimo Sacramento of the convent of S. Bento of Lisboa, where her body would be buried, providing enough money to support the celebration of the annual masses, its maintenance and illumination. She left many ornaments, textiles and even a relic to the chapel which could never be taken from it. She appointed her nephew, Manuel de Sousa, to administrate it, bequeathing him houses near the Mosteiro da Esperança, in Lisboa. The testator determined that 5 women (merceeiras) would be paid 20 000 réis each year to pray for her soul every day, inside her chapel. They would live in her houses and her bodies would be buried in that chapel.
D. Clemência bequeathed a property in Ilha Terceira ("pasto de Martim"), which was incorporated in an entail she administrated, to Francisco de Câmara Paim, who would succeeded her. She donated a large breviary with its golden lectern and all her books to the convent of Jesus of the village of Praia in Ilha Terceira, which had been erected by her grandparents. She freed her slave, Maria de Amorim/ Maria de Noronha, mulher parda, leaving her furniture, a public debt instrument of 31 000 réis and the revenues of some houses. After her death, the rent would be destined to support, each year, the marriage of an orphan girl. The testator declared that the wooden altarpieces were ready to be put in her chapel.

Will chart of Padre Belchior Rodrigues Teixeira bequeathing a vineyard to Paulo Pacheco, his nephew, and his heirs with the pious obligation of ten annual and perpetual prayed masses, in the main church of Ribeira Grande. He also appoints his niece, Úrsula da Rocha, as his successor in the land of his grandmother's, Catarina Dias, available portion, which is entailed to a half of a chapel, per year.

The administrator could nominate any son or grandson he wanted to succeed him and, afterwards, it should always succeed the eldest son oh his decendents.

Will chart by which João Rodrigues de Leão, Cavaleiro Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He declares that he had previously made an agreement with its prior and friars, by which he promised to give them a public debt instrument of 24 000 réis in exchange for the celebration of annual masses for his soul and that of his wife. Nevertheless, it was still necessary to make a contract with the convent, which he urges his heirs to do. He appoints his wife, Inês Lopes, as the entail's first administrator, bequeathing her part of his assets which should be incorporated in it. He obligates her and her descendants to give, each year, 4 000 réis to that convent in order to assure the chapel's maintenance; to check the state of its ornaments; to donate 10 000 réis to the convent of S. Domingos and S. Francisco of Lisboa, each Holy Thursday. The testator allows his wife to choose one of her nephews or nieces to be her successor, as long as he/she resides in Lisboa. He demands his remains to be buried inside his chapel.
Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1582-05-17, and an opening deed, issued on 1582-05-23.

Will chart by which Doutor Pedro Nunes de Soutomaior bequeaths all his assets to João Lourenço, his relative, obligating him and his successors to maintain two chaplains, who should celebrate annual masses for his soul and the souls of his parents in the church of Santa Maria of Oeiras and in the church of São Martinho of Sintra. He declares that, two years after his death, his remains should be transported to the church of São Martinho, where his grandfather's bones were deposited.

Will chart of priest Dinis Moreira, ordering his grave in the hermitage of São Sebastião, in the place of Paço [do Lumiar]. He entails three courelas of the farm where he lived, for the fulfillment of charges, celebrated in the Cathedral of Lisbon and in the hermitage of São Sebastião. He appointed priest Pedro Álvares Moreira to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by Violante Moreira and after her death, she shall be succeeded by Maria Álvares. After death of Maria Álvares shall be succeeded by Maria and from there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest heir.

Will chart by which Frei Jerónimo da Cunha ordered the construction of a chapel in the church of Santiago of Montemor-o-Novo, entailing immovable property to fulfill the charges. He designated Diogo Narciso to be its first administrator. If this administrator died without heirs, it should succeed the institutor's daughter Beatriz if she was not professed, with the obligation to marry a nobleman with the surname "Cunha". In case of extinction of the lineage, the eldest servant of the last administrator should succeed in the administration.

Will chart by which Sebastião Dantas wanted to be buried in the Church of São Francisco in Angra do Heroísmo. He established an entail, incorporating assets for the fulfillment of the charges in that church. He designated his wife Hilária Pimentel to be the first administrator. The administrators should rotate between them, namely João de Vasconcelos, Catarina Silva and Filipe, all sons of Filipa de Vasconcelos, niece of the institutor. Their eldest sons should succeed them.

Will chart by which Manuel Moreno de Chaves ordered the purchase of a chapel in the Cathedral of Elvas or in the monastery of São Paulo of Elvas, dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Amparo, where he would be buried. He left 5 000 réis for the chapel and 50 000 réis for the celebration of the pious obligations, incorporating the remaining part of his assets, after the fulfillment of the legacies. He designated his nephew Gabriel Moreno de Chave to be its first administrator.

Will chart by which Maria Bárbara wanted to be buried in the Church of São Francisco de Portel. She established an entail in the village of Portel, incorporating assets to fulfill the pious charges. She designated her sister Catarina Mendes Barbosa to be its first administrator, and Francisco Barbosa and his eldest son should succeed her. This entail is composed of part of the "herdade do Cabouco" with its houses in Monte do Trigo; the "herdade do Jesus", in the parish of São João; the "herdade da Fornalha", in the parish of Santa Ana; and olive groves and lands in Valverde.

Will chart by which Baltasar Barreto, Maria Barbosa de Almeida's widower, establishes a chapel in the church of Santa Justa of Lisboa, entailing houses in Rua de Lopo Infante. He appoints Amaro Varela de Faria, his wife's grandson, to be its first administrator, with the purpose of aiding him to become an honourable clergyman. The latter is obligated to support the celebration of 120 annual masses in that church and to pass the entail to his closest male relative.
He also bequeaths houses in that city to Antónia da Silva, his servant and former slave, with the obligation of celebrating 5 annual masses in that church. She is free to leave them to whomever she chooses.

Will chart made by João Rodrigues de Castelo Branco, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail in Portalegre, with a perpetual obligation of six masses celebrated every year. He named his wife Ana Ribeira to administrate the entail during her lifetime and, after her death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. All administrators should annex their own reserved portions to the entail and could not add not more than one mass to the perpetual mass obligation.

He entails half of an olive grove, located in Telheiros, near Santa Catarina, for the celebration of charges and payment of a pension to Bernardina de Jesus, his cousin, nun at the convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperança of Abrantes. After her death, she was supposed to go to Apolónia Vaz, cousin of the institutor, and then to her eldest son.

Will chart by which Manuel de Miranda orders his executors to buy properties with his assets to entail to a chapel with the obligation of three weekly masses in the church where his body will be buried. He appoints Simão, son of his slave Ana, whom he raised, as administrator of his chapel and heir of his properties, which shall pass, afterwards, to his descendants. As Simão is a minor, he shall live in the house of one of his executors, be educated by them and be married to a noble woman. If Simão doesn't have heirs, or dies, the administration of his properties shall be given to Diogo Rodrigues de Lisboa one of the executors, if he is still alive, but only during his lifetime. After Diogo's death, two thirds of those properties shall be given to Guiomar de Miranda, sister of the institutor, or to her descendants, and another third shall be given to one of Manuel's nieces, daughter of Catarina de Miranda, another of his sisters who is already deceased. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1576-12-01 and an opening deed issued on 1577-12-26.

Will chart by which Afonso Eanes Vendeiro established an entail with all his properties in Montemor-o-Novo, determining that its revenues had to support the celebration of annual masses for his soul in the church of Santa Maria do Bispo, where his body would be buried. He appoints his illegitimate son, Sebastião, to be the entail's first administrator and chaplain, if he studied to become a priest. If his son died without leaving descendants, he would be succeeded by Manuel Lopes Vendeiro, the institutor's cousin, and his offspring.

He designated his brother António da Rocha de Barros to be his heir without any obligations. The institutor annexed his assets to those he inherited from his brother, in order to fulfil the pious obligations. The same would happen with those of his wife Catarina Sanches de Tovar, in case he would administer them.

Will chart by which Mécia Dias designated her sister Guiomar Cabeça to be her last will executor and universal heir, and her children and heirs should succeed her. She left a "casal" located in Caspolima to her nephew Filipe Antunes, with the obligation to order the celebration of masses. It should succeed one of his male children. If there was no appointment, the eldest son would succeed. She established a chapel, incorporating four "casais" located on the outskirts of Lisbon in order to fulfill the charges celebrated in the church of Oeiras. She designated her brother António Martins to be the first administrator. He should appoint the successor among his male children. If there was no appointment, the eldest son would succeed.

Will chart made by Jorge da Mota in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual obligation of one mass celebrated every week in the church of São João, that he and his wife Bertolesa da Costa were building in their farm in Vila Franca do Campo. He named his wife Bertolesa da Costa as first administrator and their son João da Mota after her. After João, the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. He entailed several items made of silver, silk and cloth to the chapel.

He founded a chapel in Carrazeda and designated his sister Isabel Fernandes to be its first administrator and, after her death, her eldest son. Will chart by which Cosme Bernardes expresses his wish to be buried in the church of S. João, where his wife, Isabel Serrão, is buried, and where he orders a chapel to be built. He establishes an entail with his properties, to which he annexes the third part of his wife, Isabel Serrão, and the third part of his mother, Beatriz Gomes. He designates Francisca Dias, his cousin, wife of Manuel Ribeiro, as first administrator. Her son Diogo Ribeiro was to succeed her, and then his eldest son. They shall order the masses established by Beatriz Gomes in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa and two weekly masses and an annual one in the church of S. João, where Cosme Bernardes and his wife are buried.

Will chart made by António Cardoso and Brásia Rodrigues in which they took their reserved portions and founded an entail with a perpetual obligation of two yearly mass celebrated in All Souls' Day, one for each of them, naming their daughter Vitória Cardoso as first administrator and the eldest heir, preferably the male over the female. If Vitória died without heirs, the administration should be transmitted, in order, to their sons Nicolau, or João or Sebastião. António Cardoso left 20 000 réis of his own reserved portion to build the chapel of N. Sra. da Conceição in the convent of São Francisco, in Vila da Praia, as his father, João Cardoso Teles, ordered on his will.

Will chart of Violante Travassos, ordering her grave in the church of Nossa Senhora de Mourão, in Tentúgal. She instituted a chapel, entailing her untested assets to fulfill the charges, celebrated in the convent of Santa Cristina, and appoints Rodrigo Moniz, her brother, as first administrator. After her death it was to be inherited by António Moniz, her nephew and executor, and then by her eldest legitimate daughter. However, if there were no sons or daughters, the male relative would have preference. In case of non-compliance, the administration would be left to the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament.

Maria de Vilhena, Simão da Silveira's widow, established a chapel of 3 daily perpetual masses, which would be celebrated in the main chapel of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Évora. She appointed Jerónimo de Carvalho, her uncle, and Sancho de Faria, her nephew, to administrate it, leaving a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis and a rent (foro) of wheat taken from properties in Moura, Beja and Évora to support the pious obligations. The administrators had to erect a chapel in that convent, where a family mausoleum would be built. All the properties she left to her uncle and a public debt instrument of 14 000 given to Madalena Mendes, her ama, would end up being passed to Sancho de Faria and entailed to the chapel. The latter would leave all the entailed assets to his eldest son.
She left a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis to the Misericórdia of Évora, obligating its brothers to provide for poor men and to give dowries to orphan girls every year.
The institutor established another entail with the properties that she inherited after her parents' death, which her brother, Pedro de Tovar, held from her. She appointed her nephew, Sancho de Tovar, to administrate it and declared that it should be transmitted to his descendants. The testator determined that her body had to be buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, inside the grave of her late husband. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1562-10-23.

Those properties should never be sold or exchanged, and had to be passed to the eldest son of his great-nephew with the obligation of celebrating 5 annual masses for the institutor's soul. If his great-nephew died before leaving descendants, the entail would be administrated by one of his brothers or sisters. The testator declares that his body would be buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora of Sardoal. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1606-05-28.

The testator also determined that, after her death, 3 weekly masses should be celebrated, every year, for her soul in the chapel she and her husband, Cristóvão Vaz Pinto, had in the convent of Nossa Senhora da Anunciada of Lisboa. That pious obligation would be fulfilled up until the time her husband ordered the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for their souls. She designated him to be her universal heir. Her body would be buried in that chapel. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1608-10-26 and an opening deed dated 1610-10-10.

Isabel de Castro, established an entail with the third part of their assets, which included houses in Évora, determining that it should be annexed to the entail instituted by D. Guiomar de Noronha ("morgado de Montalvo") and administrated by their eldest son. Therefore, it would be transmitted according to the clauses of its foundation deed. However, if they were unable of bearing a son, their entail would not be attached to the one founded by Guiomar de Noronha. Instead it would be administrated by the institutor's eldest daughter, D. Maria de Castro, and her husband, D. Garcia de Meneses, and transmitted to their descendants. They also incorporated a tapestry in their entail and a rent (foro) of wheat taken from a property in Serpa to Guiomar de Noronha's entail, which they administrated. Will chart of Pedro Eanes do Canto founding, among other dispositions, two entails, one for his son António Pires, born of his first marriage with Joana da Barca, and the other for his son João da Silva, born of his second marriage with Violante da Silva. For the first entail he entailed several properties in the islands of São Jorge, Pico and Faial, and a estate named Quinta de São Pedro, with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass in the church of N. Sra. de Nazaré built on the same state, where a monument in his homenage should be built declaring that he participated on the battles of Arzila, Azamor, Afnul, Benegisna, in Persia and Almedina. For the second entail he entailed several properties in Terceira island, in Cabo da Praia, mount Brasil and a state in Lajes, also with a perpetual mass obligation with a weekly mass preached on the chapel of Jesus, that he was building in the main church of Angra. Both the entails had identical obligations, and António Pires should choose which one he would have, and João da Silva should have the other one. Both should be succeeded by their eldest sons, preferably male, and each administrator should annex 2/3 of his own reserved portion (terça) to the entail. The administrators should also use the surname "do Canto" or lose the administration. He also appoints Francisco da Silva, his illegitimate son, to succeed him on the administration of the chapel founded by Vasco Afonso, vicar of Machico, island of Madeira.

After the death of Manuel Chaves, the succession should always continue on the eldest male heir. However, if Manuel had no children, the administration should be given to his nun daughter [whose name is not mentioned] during her life, and after her death his nephew Baltasar and his brother Gaspar. If none had descendants, the administration should be given to the closest relative of the generation of his mother, Madalena Fernandes.

He appoints Manuel de Sousa de Alvim, his son, executor and first administrator, to be succeded by his eldest male son. In case of extinction of the lineage, the administration would pass to the monastery of São Martinho de Tibães.
He establishes another entail and chapel, entailing a farm, located in Seiça, on the outskirts of Ourém. He appoints Simão de Sousa de Alvim, his son, first administrator. The charges were to be celebrated in the church of Seiça. The same clauses had to be fulfilled for the institution of the entail of the Quinta de Pedrógão.

The institutor named Leonor Velez, his wife, as first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she would be succeeded by António Vaz, during his lifetime. After his death, he would be succeeded by Francisco, his son, and from there on the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir.

Will chart by which Cristóvão da Costa, escrivão, expresses his wish to be buried in the chapel of Salvador of the cathedral of Lisboa, where his father, António da Costa, is buried. He appoints his brother, Pedro da Costa, as his heir, and orders him to buy properties with the remaining part of his assets, in order to establish an entail with the obligation of a weekly mass in his burial place. These properties shall then be inherited by his eldest son or, if he doesn't have descendance, by their closest relative.

Will chart made by Constança Afonso, widow of Diogo Vaz Cavaleiro in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of two entails. The first one would have a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass celebrated in the church of the Misericórdia, in Ponta Delgada, and to administrate it, she named her nephew Afonso Eanes, priest, and his eldest brother after his death, and from there on the entail should follow the ordenações and the legal costums of the Portuguese kingdom. The second entail would be administrated by her daughter Isabel Dias and her descendants after her, with no mass obligation.

Will chart of Pedro Vaz de Castelo Branco, instituting an entail, with head on the Pindo's farm, entailing all the assets he had in Beira, in the municipalities of Penalva, Azurara and Povolide, as well as some houses in Lisboa, to fulfill the charges, celebrated at the altar of Santa Maria Madalena, in the church of Pindo, where he orders his grave. He appoints Pedro Vaz de Castelo Branco, his son, executor, universal heir and administrator of the entail. He mentions a chapel in Lisboa, created by his wife, intending that the succession in the entail he instituted would follow the same principles as that chapel, since both would remain with his son.

Will chart made by António Lopes de Faria in which he ordered, among several other dispositions, the foundation of an entail in Vila da Praia with a perpetual obligation of chapel of masses in the hermitage of N. Sra. do Rosário. He appointed his nephew Pedro de Faria as first administrator of the entail and always, preferably, the eldest male heir after him. If Pedro dies without descendants, the administration should be given to António de Faria or the closest relative. He ordered that the administrator should give yearly 1 000 cruzados to the Confraria de Nossa Senhora do Rosário and 10 cruzados to his poorest relatives. He ordered that all the administrators should bear the surname "Faria" or otherwise lose the administration. Finally, he recommended that his nephews should always nourish friendship between them and with the people of Lagoa, conserving the manners of the land and not those of their original lan, Vila do Conde. He also mentioned that his father founded a chapel in Vila do Conde and therefore the administrator of this newly founded entail should administrate both of them.

Will chart by which Vasco Lourenço, mercador, and Isabel Afonso, his wife, establish a shelter for poor people in the houses they own in Lisboa. They entail to it lands (casais) in Sintra, Cascais and Olivais, whose revenues should also support the celebration of annual masses in the church of S. Nicolau of Lisboa, where their bodies would be buried. After the death of one of the members of the couple, the surviving one should become the shelter's administrator, passing it to Estêvão Pires, alfaiate. He is bound to transmit it to his eldest son. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1432-10-24.
