Will (extract) made by Maria Dias in which she ordered her grave in the chapel she had in the church of São Pedro of Évora. She entails all her possessions, located in the outskirts of Évora, for the maintenance of the chapel and the celebration of charges. She appointed Gonçalo, Beatriz Esteves' son, to be the first administrator during his lifetime. In case he was still a minor, the administration would belong, until he came of age, to João Eanes. After Gonçalo's death, he shall be succeeded by Maria Esteves. After her death, her shall be succeeded by her oldest son, male or female.

Will (extract) by which Guiomar Cabea, widow of Simão Correia Lomelino, expresses her wish to be buried in the chapel she established with her husband in the main church of Oeiras. She designates her niece, D. Maria, daughter of Jorge Carreiro de Almada and of D. Luísa da Gama, Guiomar's sister, as her heir, executor and administrator of her chapel and entail. She bequeaths her the third part of her husband and her own third part, entailing them to their chapel, with an obligation of 100 masses for their souls. The entail shall pass to D. Maria's descendants, with a preference for daughters. If she dies without successors, it shall pass to one of her siblings in this order: D. Helena, D. Jerónima, D. Francisco de Almada or D. António Carreiro.

Will (extract) by which cónego João Lourenço, son of Lourenço Eanes and Maria Pires, entails his properties in Lisboa and expresses his wish to be buried in the chapel of Bartolomeu Eanes, in the cathedral of Lisboa. He appoints a chaplain who must pray daily for his soul and the souls of his relatives, D. Teobaldo, bishop of Lisboa, Bartolomeu Eanes and the benefactors and beneficiados of several churches where he had been raçoeiro and beneficiado, as well as 12 anniversaries on the day of his death, every month, and masses on the holidays of the Virgin. He appoints his brother, Vasco Lourenço, as first administrator of his entail, which shall always be in his family by appointment. If there are no adequate successors to his entail, it shall go to Vicente, criado of João Lourenço, and to his children. If his lineage is extinguished, the Cabido of the cathedral of Lisboa shall appoint a new administrator.

Will (extract) of António de Morais. The testator decides to reserve all his real estate and movable property, incorporating them into a chapel, which would be entailed in perpetuity in a "capela" or "morgado". The entail was accompanied by the obligation to celebrate perpetual masses, namely a weekly mass every Friday in honour of the Five Wounds of Christ. The first holder of the entail would be Paula, a young and single girl, the daughter of Leonor de Morais. The entail would be used as a dowry for her marriage, provided she married according to her mother's wishes. The entail would go primarily to the first-born sons, with the exception of the administrators who married Jews, Moors or artisans. The administrators were obliged to live in Barcelos or on its outskirts, unless their service to the King or the Duke of Bragança took them elsewhere.

Will (extract) of Francisco Velasco de Gouveia, by which he establishes Baltasar Pereira do Lago, son of Gaspar Pereira do Lago, his nephew, as his heir. The testator entails all his real estate, including houses in Lisboa, lands (casal) in Mafra and the Fonte Boa's estate (herdade), in Ferreira do Alentejo. The entail's administrator was obligated to administer it with the chapel established by Beatriz de Gouveia, his mother, in the convent of São Domingos of Lisboa, and with the one established by Duarte de Almeida, in the same convent. Francisco added annual masses to the pious obligation his mother had already instituted. He chooses to be buried in the chapel, located in the cloister of the referred convent, where his parents lied.

Will (extract) by which Mateus Gonçalves Mouzinho established an entail, designating his son Francisco Mouzinho to be its first administrator with the obligation to order the celebration of masses. If he died childless, it should succeed his brother Gaspar Mouzinho or, in his absence, the heirs of his father or mother's brothers.

Will (extract) of Diogo Carneiro and Beatriz de Castro, his wife. They instituted a chapel, entailing a third of their assets for the celebration of charges, upon finalising the payment of legacies. Francisco Carneiro de Brito, his son, is appointed first administrator. Beatriz de Castro administered a chapel instituted by Helena de Brito, her aunt, for which she also appoints Francisco Carneiro de Brito, her son, ordering him to annex it to the chapel she instituted with her husband.

Extract of Pedro Lopes' will, entailing properties in the couto de Tibães with the obligation of 36 annual masses in the church of Misericórdia, in Braga, along with his wife's will. The chaplain should be his son Miguel Lopes, and the administrator his other son Diogo Lopes and his offspring.

Will (extract) by which Doutor Luís Correia establishes a chapel with a daily mass and one yearly divine office in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. He entails to it rents in the value of 1 000 cruzados, to be employed in the acquisition of interest and properties for the chapel. He appoints his niece, D. Maria Mancelos, daughter of D. Isabel de Leão, as the chapel's first administrator, under the condition that she shall entail to it the properties she will inherit from her mother and grandmother. Her successors shall also annex to the entail a third of the third part of their inheritances. If D. Maria dies without descendants, the entail shall be inherited by her sister, D. Isabel. If the family line is extinguished, the obligation will be bequeathed to the Misericórdia of Coimbra.

Will (extract) by which Joana Dinis entails a farm in Alvalade and her casal de Mira, in Benfica, Lisboa, and establishes a chapel. She bequeaths it to Francisco Lobato and his successors, with an obligation of 12 000 reis of masses in the chapterhouse of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where her husband, António Fernandes, patrão-mor do Reino, is buried. He shall be succeded by his most obedient child.

Will (extract) by which Gil Vaz de Pina established a chapel, entailing to it all his remaining assets. He designated his son, Martinho Vaz de Pina, to administrate it, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of 10 annual masses for his soul and to give, every year, 10 000 réis to Madre Beatriz Maria da Trindade, during her lifetime. The testator also appointed his son to succeed him in the administration of the chapel founded by Jorge de Pina do Lago, his uncle. He determined that, if his daughter, Sebastiana de Parada, and her husband, António de Azevedo, left no descendants, the farmstead (quinta) of Pousão and other properties which he had given them as dowry had to be entailed to his chapel.

Will (extract) by which Diogo Marchão Temudo declared that he wanted to celebrate each year the Santo António's day and all the entail's successors were due to fulfil this obligation. He designated his daughter Luísa Maria Ravasco and his wife D. Brites Teresa de Mendonça to be his heirs, and the successors were obligated to incorporate their thirds into this entail. Their parents were buried in the Church of São Vicente de Fora and he wanted to be buried in the same place.

Will (extract) by which Maria Cardoso de Montalvo established an entail, designating her nephew Francisco Cardoso de Montalvo to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses for her and her aunt's soul. This entail is composed of a farm in Penha de França with its olive groves, houses and orchard; houses located in Lisboa; a "casal" in Santiago dos Velhos; and an orchard and a farm called "Teixeira", on the outskirts of Santarém. If her nephew died childless, it should succeed her niece Luísa Cardoso and her heirs. The institutor also established that her nephew Francisco Cardoso de Montalvo should sell leased propriety in order to buy free holding assets to be incorporated into the entail. She finally established that she wanted to give to her nephew Manuel Cardoso a rent of some assets located in Santarém, with the obligation to take care of his mother and the institutor's sister, and to celebrate masses for the soul of her deceased sisters and parents. Francisco Cardoso de Montalvo could buy this rent (foro) for the value of 200 000 réis. After Manuel Cardoso's death, this propriety should pass to the entail's administrator, Francisco Cardoso de Montalvo.

Will (extract) by which António de Miranda Campelo and his wife D. Maria dos Reis established an entail, designating their son Alberto de Miranda Campelo to be its first administrator. If he died without heirs, it should succeed D. Maria dos Reis and after her death their daughter D. Catarina and her heirs. The successors were due to order the celebration of masses wherever they wanted and to give to their daughter Ângela do Sacramento, a nun, 40 000 réis each year. This entail is composed of a farm called "Saúde" located in Sacavém.

Will (extract) by which Cristina da Silva established an entail, designating her nephew Gonçalo de Pina Castelo Branco to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses wherever he wanted and to give to the Padres Capuchos of Mealhada oil to light a candle. This entail is composed of "prazos" and immovable assets located in Santo António do Tojal and on the outskirts of Loures.

Will (extract) by which Catarina Cardoso established an entail with her farmstead (quinta), lands and houses near Chafariz de Arroios, Lisboa, and properties in Loures, designating her cousin to administrate it. He and his descendants were obligated to support the celebration of annual masses for her soul and for the souls of her relatives in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which D. Francisca de Meneses establishes three entails of female succession. First, she bequeaths her lands in Linda-a-Velha, Oeiras, to her sister, with an obligation of two annual masses. After her sister's death, they shall pass to her niece, D. Úrsula, with the same obligation. D. Úrsula shall build houses in those lands to be the head of the entail. Second, she bequeaths her sister two stores in Lisboa, with another obligation of two annual masses. After her sister's death, they shall pass to her niece, D. Isabel. Third, she orders 2 000 réis of masses in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, entailed to a lease in Nossa Senhora dos Olivais, of which her brother, padre Frei Vicente, shall have the usufruct during his lifetime, and which shall pass after his death to D. Ana, their niece, with the same obligation. If one of her nieces dies without successors, the other two can inherit their entails. If none of them has descendants, the entails shall be inherited by the daughters of their brothers.
She also bequeaths to D. Úrsula a lease with an obligation of four annual masses for the soul of the daughter of her nurse, also buried in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, who had bequeathed them to her with that condition.

Will (extract) by which Pedro Alves entails a casal in Cascais with an obligation of several annual masses in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, where he wishes to be buried. He designates his daughter, Francisca Antunes, as first administrator of his entail, and her descendants afterwards.

Will (extract) by which Fernando Gonçalves Fuseiro estalished an entail, designating his sister Guiomar Ferreira to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, giving 100 "alqueires de trigo" and using the rents of his "herdade" in Machede, on the outskirts of Évora. This entail should be succeeded by her eldest son or, in his absence, by a daughter.

Will (extract) by which padre Baltasar Soares Magro entails a casal in Calhariz de Benfica, Lisboa, with an obligation of 150 masses for his soul in the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas. He designates his great-nephew, Sebastião Ferreira Magro, son of his nephew Manuel Ferreira Magro, as first administrator, and his descendants afterwards.

Will (extract) by which Margarida de Landim, widow of Pedro Barriga, entails her houses in Fangas da Farinha, Lisboa, with an obligation of two annual masses in the chapel of Chagas of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. She bequeaths them to her eldest son, João Alves Barriga, and to his sucessors. If, at the time of her death, João has already died or has no male descendants, the entail shall pass to his younger brother, Gonçalo Vaz Barriga.
Followed by a note explaining that the houses entailed to this chapel were demolished by order of the king and replaced by a farmstead in Loures, according to a consignation letter and sentence from 1748.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Barbuda de Melo bequeaths all his assets to Francisco Vieira de Castro, his brother, ordering him to sell them and to buy properties with the purpose of establishing an entail. The testator asks Francisco and his successors to celebrate annual masses in the church of S. Domingos of Lisboa and to donate, each year, 100 000 réis for the dowry of two orphan girls and the same amount to support the ransom of two portuguese captives in Africa.

Will (extract) by which Pedro Jaques de Magalhães established an entail, designating his eldest son Manuel Jaques de Magalhães to be its first administrator. He declared that he and his wife Dona Maria Vicência de Vilhena were contracted by a dowry deed to use their thirds for an entail's foundation. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses for his and his wife's soul wherever he wanted. If the administrator died childless, it should succeed their daughter Dona Antónia de Vilhena and her heirs or, in her absence, the other daughters Dona Violante de Vilhena and or Dona Brites da Silva. All of the entail's administrators were obligated to incorporate half of their thirds into this entail, but the first administrator is obligated to incorporate the paternal and maternal "legítimas". The institutor is also the administrator of the Morgado da Bordeira, and for that reason their heirs should also succeed in this entail. This entail is composed of houses in "Poço dos Negros", located in Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Manuel Malheiro expresses his wish to be buried next to his first wife, D. Isabel Fernandes, and to his second wife, D. Maria Malheiro de Melo, his niece, in the chapels of Santo António and Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the cathedral of Lisboa. He confirms the institution of an entail which he had established with his first wife in a previous will, entailing to it all his properties in Azambuja, Lisboa and Corroios. He appoints as his heir António Malheiro, his second son from his second marriage, since his first born son from this marriage, José Malheiro de Melo, had died during the writing of the will. His son shall marry one of his cousins, daughter of Gaspar Malheiro, Manuel Malheiro's brother. He establishes an obligation of two daily masses for his own soul and the souls of his two wives. He also explains that he received the two chapels he now possesses from the deão António or Afonso Furtado de Mendonça, who had donated them under the condition that he should build him a tomb in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and order a weekly mass for his soul.

Will (extract) of João Rodrigues, appointing his niece Genebra Rodrigues as administrator of his entail.

Will (extract) by which D. Ana Maria establishes an entail with her third part, which must be used to buy public debt instruments. She establishes an obligations of 100 masses and one divine office in her chapel in the cathedral of Lisboa, where she wishes to be buried. She appoints her son, Francisco Malheiro, as her heir, bequeathing the usufruct of her properties to her husband, Gaspar Malheiro, until their son marries. If their lineage becomes extinct, the entail shall be administered by the Misericórdia de Lisboa or by the Ordem Terceira de S. Francisco.

Will (extract) made by Pedro Lopes in which he ordered the foundation of an entail and chapel that would be composed of some lands, houses, two bulls, fourty cows and also twenty enslaved persons, over which he imposed a perpetual pious obligation of one mass celebrated every week as long as the world lasted, in the church of Santiago of Ribeira Seca, and also two masses, one of them sung, in All Souls Day. To administrate it, he named Miguel, an illegitimate son, during his lifetime, and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on his eldest legitimate heirs. Henceforth, all adulters and illegitimate children would be excluded from the administration. He disposed explicitly that if one of the tewnty slaves he entailed perished, run away or was "bad" at service, the administrator would be obliged to replace him or her immediatly, and also ordered that all children, male or female, born from the entailed slaves would become immediatly entailed to the chapel.

Will (extract) by which Lopo Sarmento de Carvalho established an entail using his and his late wife Dona Maria de Sequeira's third part, appointing his son Inácio Sarmento de Carvalho to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of a "reguengo" called "Cravoeira", a farm and an orchard located in Lisboa, and public debt instrument of 100 000 réis in Almoxarifado de Torres Novas.

Extract of Diogo Barbosa de Almeida's will, instituting an entail with pious obligations in the church of Santiago de Carreiras, where he should also be buried. Diogo left his estates to his brother Manuel de Almeida and to his nephew João Barbosa de Almeida. These estates were entailed, and each administrator had the right to appoint his successor amongst his offspring.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Carvalho establishes a chapel in the memory of his parents, according to their will, entailing assets in Évora, Monte Redondo, Alhos Vedros and Lisboa, with the obligation of 104 masses, two each week, in S. Francisco of Lisboa. He appoints his wife, Isabel Fragoso, as first administrator and, after her death, his nephew, Bento Carvalho de Botafogo, son of Pedro Carvalho, and his children, afterwards. He also establishes a payment of 2000 reis a year to the confrary of the Santíssimo Sacramento of the convent, to pray the masses.

Will (extract) by which Maria de Abreu Faria ordered her eldest son, José Correia de Abreu, to buy a public debt instrument or properties with the third part of her assets and to use its revenues to support the celebration of a perpetual daily mass for her soul and for the soul of her husband, Filipe Correia, in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, where her body would be buried. The chapel should be administrated by him during his lifetime and, at the time of his death, inherited by his eldest son.

Will (extract) by which António Viegas Gentil established an entail, designating his daughter D. Maria Chichorra de Sousa to be its first administrator. She should incorporate her "legítima" and other assets into this entail, under penalty of loosing this succession. In this case, this entail should be succeeded by his nephew Francisco de Lucena. If his daughter accepted his condition, and if she died without heirs, this entail should be succeeded by D. Leonor and her heirs from the second marriage, but she just could marry after her daughter's. The institutor also established that his assets should be used to buy public debt instrument or immovable goods in order to incorporate them into the entail. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses wherever he would be buried. This entail is composed of houses located in Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Manuel de Sande and his wife, Beatriz de Vasconcelos, appoint their granddaughter, D. Beatriz, daughter of their daughter D. Maria, as their universal heir. They bequeath her their third parts, consisting of houses in Santos-o-Velho, Lisboa, with an obligation of 75 annual masses and three nocturnes in the church of the convent of S. Francisco de Xabregas, over their tombs. If D. Beatriz dies without successors, the entail shall pass to the Misericórdia de Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Pedro Correia designates his niece, Maria de Serpa, daughter of his sister Antónia Ribeiro, as his universal heir, bequeathing her all of his properties as an entail, with the obligation of two daily masses in the chapel of the congregation of Jesus, Maria, José in the church of S. Roque of Lisboa, where he wishes to be buried. After Maria de Serpa's death, the entail shall pass to his other niece, Maria Egipcíaca Correia. If she dies without heirs, the entail will pass to the lineage of their deceased brother, Fernando Lopes de Serpa, but only if his heirs, who live in India, return to Portugal. He also designates the chaplains who will pray the masses in his chapel: Simão de Novais Teixeira and João de Oliveira, and their immediate successors.

Will (extract) by which Maria Antunes established an entail using her third, designating her daughter D. Inês to be its first administrator. If she did not marry or if she died, it should succeed her daughter D. Sebastiana or D. Joana and, in absence of all the daughters, this entail should be succeeded by her son Miguel Monteiro. He establishes an obligation of 5 000 reis of masses and a lamp in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa and the celebration of masses of the Martinho Esteve's chapel in the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. He also entails a public debt instrument to a chapel of ecclesiastical administration in the Cathedral of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by Estêvão de Brito Freire in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail composed of several assets in Lisboa, Beja and Salvador da Baía, with an obligation of a daily mass celebrated on his Chapel of S. Estêvão, located in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus, in Lisboa, where his body should be buried. He named his son Gaspar de Brito Freire as first administrator of the entail and chapel, and after his death the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. The administrator should keep a lamp permanently lit on the chapel, use the surname "Brito Freire" and the family coat of arms or lose the administration. Clerics and anyone who married a person of jewish or moorish ascendency should immediately lose the administrators, as well as anyone who committed lese-majeste crimes.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Almeida de Vasconcelos orders, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel in the Igreja da Misericórdia de Lisboa, dedicated to Espírito Santo, entailing to it a sugar-mill, named Laranjeiras, and two farmsteads, named Barra Funda and Boa Vista, in the island of São Tomé, and the donatary captaincy and Alcaidaria-Mor of the island of Ano Bom, with cotton farms and more than 250 african slaves. He appoints his cousin D. Maria de Almeida to be the first administrator, but only if his wife D. Simoa, had no children of his own. He orders that 20 000 cruzados should be given to the Misericórdia de Lisboa in order to pay for the ransom of portuguese captives in Africa.

Will (extract) by which Estêvão de Viana bequeaths a public debt instrument of 8 000 réis in Casa da Alfândega de Lisboa and houses in Rua dos Fornos, Lisboa, to his daughter, Antónia de Viana, obligating her and her successors to spend, each year, 1 000 réis to support the celebration of annual masses in the church of Santa Justa of that city. After the first administrator's death, the entail should be inherited by Beatriz Viana, her sister.

Will (extract) by which Luís Pereira de Barros established an entail, designating his daughter D. Francisca Pereira de Teles to be its first administrator. It should succeed in this entail her legitimate heirs and, if she died childless, it should succeed the eldest son of his cousin João Coelho Henriques. The successors of this entail were obligated to incorporate their thirds into this entail. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses with the rents of his third and other belongings such as gold, silver ou white clothes. The institutor also ordered that his natural daughter, a nun in the Convent of Castanheira, should receive 20 000 réis each year.

Will (extract) of Gaspar de Sampaio Pereira. The testator institutes an entail by his inheritance, partly constituted by debt instruments. He appointed his nephew João Leite Pereira as administrator, to be succeeded by his first-born son, excluding illegitimate children and forcing the administrators to use the Leite Pereira family name. The children of Francisca de Castro were excluded from the succession. A charge of perpetual masses to be celebrated in the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Desterro was attached to the entail.

Will (extract) by which D. Ana da Fonseca establishes an entail with her houses, revenue from the casal de Golão and an interest in the Casa dos Escravos, which she has given through a dowry deed to her niece, D. Catarina da Fonseca, and her husband, João Ferreira Bettencourt. She also bequeaths the usufruct of her properties in the island of S. Tomé and in India to her brother Gabriel da Fonseca, vicar of S. João of Raiva, during his lifetime. After Gabriel da Fonseca's death, the properties left to him and to her niece shall be united and given to Ana da Fonseca's great-niece, D. Guiomar, D. Catarina da Fonseca's daughter, and to her succession thereafter, with the obligation of 16 masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Antónia Ferraz establishes an entail and appoints her nephew, Francisco de Sousa Falcão, son of her sister D. Ana Ferraz, and of António de Sousa Falcão, as her universal heir. She establishes an obligation of a daily mass in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where she will be buried. Francisco de Sousa Falcão shall only be given possession of the entail after he fulfills all the pious obligations established in Antónia Ferraz's will. She also mentions other pious obligations in the convent of the Carmelites, which are to be fulfilled by Diogo de Sousa Ferraz.

Will (extract) by which Gonçalo Vaz Barriga expresses his wish to be buried in the chapel of Chagas of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, next to his brother and parents. She establishes an obligation of twenty masses for her soul and the soul of her husband, José de Matos da Veiga, in the church of Madre de Deus of Lisboa. Francisco de Almeida shall administer his son's properties during his minority. If António dies, his properties shall be inherited either by his brother, Luís Cid, or by their sister, D. Constança.

Will (extract) by which Bartolomeu Vieira de Almada bequeaths his properties to his granddaughter, D. Mariana, and her heirs, with an obligation of five annual masses in the church of Póvoa de Santo Adrião. If she dies without descendants, the entail shall pass to Bartolomeu Vieira de Almada's nephew, Jacinto Luís Vieira, son of his brother, Luís Vieira de Almada, or to another of his granddaughters.

Will (extract) in which Antónia Falcão orders a chapel to be built in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa and expresses her wish to be buried next to her late husband, Garcia Homem. She bequeaths a set of properties to her chapel, which are listed and described, and appoints her nephew Martim Cota Falcão and the priests of the convent as administrators. Martim Cota, who is the eldest son of the testators’ brother, Gaspar Cota Falcão, would have part of the listed properties, subjected to a series of detailed conditions. He was required to fulfil pious obligations for the institutor’s soul and to pay an annual sum of 10 000 réis to the convent. The priests would receive properties near Beirolas and in Salvaterra, as well as the amount paid by Martim Cota and his descendants. These assets were to be entailed and the conditions and alternatives of their transmission are specified.

Will (extract) by which D. Francisca de Meneses establishes three entails of female succession. First, she bequeaths her lands in Linda-a-Velha, Oeiras, to her sister, with an obligation of two annual masses. After her sister's death, they shall pass to her niece, D. Úrsula, with the same obligation. D. Úrsula shall build houses in those lands to be the head of the entail. Second, she bequeaths her sister two stores in Lisboa, with another obligation of two annual masses. After her sister's death, they shall pass to her niece, D. Isabel. Third, she orders 2 000 réis of masses in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, entailed to a lease in Nossa Senhora dos Olivais, of which her brother, padre Frei Vicente, shall have the usufruct during his lifetime, and which shall pass after his death to D. Ana, their niece, with the same obligation. If one of her nieces dies without successors, the other two can inherit their entails. If none of them has descendants, the entails shall be inherited by the daughters of their brothers.
She also bequeaths to D. Úrsula a lease with an obligation of four annual masses for the soul of the daughter of her nurse, also buried in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, who had bequeathed them to her with that condition.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar de Magalhães and Maria da Silva, his wife, establish an entail with houses in Lisboa, a farmstead in Cumeeira, S. João da Talha, and vineyards and olive groves located on the outskirts of that city, determining that one of them should become its first administrator after the death of the other. Subsequently, the entail must be transmitted to D. Catarina Tavares, their niece, who would pass it to her eldest son. If she dies childless, it should be inherited by her sister, D. Maria da Silva. Its future administrators are obligated to support the celebration of 4 annual masses in the chapels of Santo Cristo and Nossa Senhora da Piedade of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, where the testators' bodies should be buried.

Will (extract) by which João Monteiro and his wife Mécia Álvares established an entail, designating Luís Eanes Monteiro and his wife D. Maria to be its first administrators. They were due to order the celebration of two masses in the Church of the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora or Santa Maria da Graça for their and their parents soul. After the administrator's death, it should succeed their eldest son or, in his absence, their eldest daughter. If they died childless, it should succeed their eldest brothers or sisters. This entail is composed of houses in Lisboa, a "casal" called "Caos" in Ribeira de Loures, a "casal" in Arneiro da Arreganha, on the outskirts of Sintra, a "casal" in Cardosas do Reguengo do Monte Agravo, a "casal" in Cabeço de Montachique and a "casal" called "Rol" on the outskirts of Sintra. The surviving spouse also should to receive 1 000 000 réis to buy immovable goods to be incorporated into this entail.

Will (extract) by which Salvador da Costa established an entail with the third part of his assets, designating the second born son of his daughter, D. Teresa Maria, and of Capitão Manuel de Almeida de Brito to administrate it. If he died without descendants, the entail would be inherited by his younger brother. The future administrators of the entail were obligated to support the celebration of 12 annual masses for the institutor's soul in the church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which D. Maria de Tovar designates her nephew, Manuel de Melo de Noronha, son of her sister D. Violante Rolim, as her universal heir. She bequeaths him her estates, orchards and farmsteads in Palmela, her houses in Setúbal and Lisboa and a saltern in Alcácer do Sal, as an entail, with the obligation of half an annual of masses for her soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus of Lisboa. If her nephew doesn't have any heirs, the entail shall pass to his brother, Gabriel de França Rolim, and his descendants, or to D. Ana de Meneses, wife of Martinho Ferreira da Câmara and niece of D. Maria de Tovar. If their lineages are extinguished, the entail shall pass to the Casa da Misericórdia of Alcácer do Sal.

Will (extract) by which Manuel Manso da Fonseca, desembargador, established an entail, designating his nephew Francisco Manso da Fonseca to be its first administrator and he nominated his wife to be the last will executor. All the assets that remained after the payment of his wife's dowry should be used for the celebration of masses and all his properties should be incorporated into this entail. If his nephew died childless, it should succeed other of his sister's heirs.

Will (extract) by which Francisca Imperial established an entail, designating her daughter Antónia Imperial to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses wherever she wanted. After her death, it should succeed her granddaughter D. Joana de Almada in order to get married but, if she married a new-christian, it should succeed her sister D. Maria de Almada. This entail is composed of an olive grove located in the parish of São João da Talha.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz Borboleta establishes a chapel in the church of S. Nicolau of Lisboa, entailing her farmsteads and lands in Alhandra, Arruda dos Vinhos, Alcântara and houses in Lisboa. She appoints Álvaro Nunes, Escudeiro, escrivão da Casa do Cível, to be its first administrator, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of a daily mass for her soul in that church. After his death, the entail should be inherited by his eldest son.

Will (extract) by which Marcos de Almeida established an entail, designating his sister D. Antónia de Almeida, wife of Rui Gonçalves Maracote, to be its first administrator. The institutor ordered the purchase of a chapel, the payment of 30 000 réis to a chaplain and the celebration of masses for his soul in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Anunciada. The institutor also left some legacies for the remission of captives to the Misericórdia of Lisboa. This entail should be succeed by the eldest son or, in his absence, by the closest kin and its properties are composed of houses in Lisboa, and a "cardal" and a farm located in Azambujal.

Will of padre João da Ponte founding a chapel in Elvas, appointing his nephew João da Ponte and his descendants to its administration. The nephew is already administrator of an entail founded by his aunt Leonor Gil.

Will (extract) by which Pedro da Silva, bispo do Brasil, established a chapel, designating his niece D. Micaela da Silva, daughter of his eldest brothers, to be its first administrator. The institutor wanted that all his movable goods and his houses in Bahia would be sold in order to buy others for this chapel. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses, that should be said by a chaplain. After the administrator’s death, it should succeed her son Silvério and, in his absence, another daughter of Micaela. If there were no heirs of the family, it should succeed the eldest servant, or the eldest maid of his house.

Will (extract) by which Catarina de Pina established an entail, appointing Bartolomeu Gonçalves Castelo Branco to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Ermida da Ascensão, in Calçada do Combro, Lisboa. She also established that its administrator should nominate five priests to celebrate the masses for her soul.

Will (extract) by which Luís Álvares, Inês Fernandes' widower, appoints his granddaughter, Margarida de Avelar, to be the next administrator of the chapel that his wife had established in church of Santa Justa. She must fulfil its pious obligations and give, each year, 50 000 réis to Francisco Rodrigues and Isabel Nunes' daughters, the testator's nieces. If Margarida de Avelar does not marry according to her father and grandfather's will, the chapel shall be administrated by António de Avelar.

Will (extract) of António Jorge da Guerra, in which he declares that all his possessions should be entailed in a "morgado", in connection with a chapel that had previously been built in the monastery of São Francisco de Guimarães, where a retable of the Encarnation would be placed and where the founder would be buried in a tomb with the Guerra coat of arms, as he had in his signet ring. The first administrator of the entail would be his sister Catarina da Guerra, followed by his son António Machado da Guerra. All administrators were obliged to use the name Guerra and the coat of arms of the family. First-born sons took precedence, and clerics were excluded from the administration.

Will (extract) António Ribeiro de Abreu founding and entail, in Seia, and chapel, in the main church of Seia, and appointing João Cabral de Abreu, his son, as first administrator. João Cabral de Abreu and Antónia Coelho de Sousa, his wife, consent in the entail's foundation, since it includes the first one's reserved portion.

Will (extract) by which Luísa Cordeiro de Sousa asked António Lopes, ourives do ouro, to employ 850 000 réis that she lent to various persons in the acquisition of a public debt instrument of 42 500 réis. Its revenues should be used to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for her soul in the chapel of S. Bartolomeu dos Alemães of the church of S. Julião of Lisboa. The chapel's administrators are henceforth obligated to elect a chaplain and to present, each year, the account of administration to the Provedoria das Capelas. She designates António Lopes to administrate the entail and determines that, after his death, it must be inherited by his daughter or his wife.

Will (extract) by which Manuel da Serra established an entail, using his third part of the assets. He designated his son Francisco Xavier da Serra to be its first administrator, with the obligation to order the celebration of masses for his, his wife and his parents' soul. The administrator was free to subrogate the properties to others with higher rents.

Will (extract) by which Cristóvão Lopes declares that, if his daughter obeys the relatives who are in charge of her, he will bequeath her his third part as an entail, to always be in her lineage, with the obligation of three annual masses in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Maria da Fonseca entails her properties in Santiago do Cacém with an obligation of 26 annual masses in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa. She designates her nephew, Manuel Corvo, son of her cousin Luísa Adães and of Martinho Viegas, as first administrator of her chapel, and his descendants afterwards.

Will (extract) by which António João and his wife Domingas Moreira established an entail, designating their goddaughter Maria Moreira to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses wherever she chose and she could appoint whomever she wanted to succeed in this entail. Its proprieties are composed of houses located in Lisboa and the rents of some lands.

Will (extract) by which António Veloso established an entail, designating his sons António Veloso and José Veloso, both priests, to be its first administrators. They were due to order the celebration of masses for his and his wife's soul wherever they wanted. The administrators were also obligated to incorporate their "legítimas" into this entail and to use the institutor's third to buy public debt instruments or immovable goods. After the death of both of them, it should succeed his daughter Maria da Cruz and her heirs, with the obligation to incorporate their thirds into this entail. They also should give some money to the poor kin and to his niece Engrácia Silveira in order of getting married or becoming a nun.

The institutor also established the obligation to donate money to "merceeiras" and for the oil of the candles. If her niece died without heirs, it should succeed her sister Luísa de Almeida, and if her sister died without heirs it should succeed their brother Francisco Serrão. This entail is composed of farm located in the outskirts of Torre Vedras, houses in Lisboa and a "casal" in Alenquer.

Will chart (extract) of Rui de Carvalho, in which an entail is established, with a third of his assets. Appoints Bernardo Carvalho as first administrator and the latter's son Rui de Carvalho as second administrator.

Will chart of D. Manuel de Moura Manuel. Establishes a chapel or entail, entailing goods. He appoints Henrique de Moura Manuel, his nephew, as administrator, with his legitimate descendants to succeed him and establishes the celebration of charges in his church of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França.

Will chart by which Beatriz Taveira, widow of Pedro da Costa, Desembargador do Rei D. Afonso V, established an entail, incorporating in it houses in Lisboa, a farmstead in Lumiar ("quinta da Torre"), lands (casal) in Monção, outskirts of Santarém, and properties in Santa Catarina. She designated her nephew, Diogo Dias, Cavaleiro da Casa do Rei, to become its first administrator, determining that him and his descendants had to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for her soul and the souls of her relatives in the chapel of Santa Maria of the church of S. João da Praça of that city, where her body would be buried. After the death of Diogo Dias, the entail would be inherited by his eldest son. If his lineage became extinct, the priests of S. João da Praça had to elect someone to be the entail's administrator.

Will chart by which Baltasar Mendes dos Reis wanted to be buried in the Monastery of São Francisco de Évora, where his father Manuel Gomes de Melo was buried. He founded the chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Reis dos Presos da Praça, in Évora, designating his illegitimate son Francisco de Melo to be its administrator. He also designated him to be the administrator of the Quinta de Santo António, in Pêra Manca, of which he was the current administrator.

Will chart by which João Rodrigues de Leão, Cavaleiro Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He declares that he had previously made an agreement with its prior and friars, by which he promised to give them a public debt instrument of 24 000 réis in exchange for the celebration of annual masses for his soul and that of his wife. Nevertheless, it was still necessary to make a contract with the convent, which he urges his heirs to do. He appoints his wife, Inês Lopes, as the entail's first administrator, bequeathing her part of his assets which should be incorporated in it. He obligates her and her descendants to give, each year, 4 000 réis to that convent in order to assure the chapel's maintenance; to check the state of its ornaments; to donate 10 000 réis to the convent of S. Domingos and S. Francisco of Lisboa, each Holy Thursday. The testator allows his wife to choose one of her nephews or nieces to be her successor, as long as he/she resides in Lisboa. He demands his remains to be buried inside his chapel.
Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1582-05-17, and an opening deed, issued on 1582-05-23.

Will chart of Padre Manuel de Sousa Novais expressing his wish to be buried in the church of S. Pedro of Vila Franca do Campo and establishing four chapels, two for his niece, Lúcia do Quintal, composed of a rent of ten moios of wheat, and two for his nephews, Padre Manuel de Sousa and Padre Miguel Tavares, composed of all his leases and farmlands. He also bequeaths his house to his nephew, Padre Manuel de Sousa, and, after his death, to Padre Miguel Tavares and, after his death, to Lúcia do Quintal, with the pious obligation of half of a chapel.
Will approved in 1662-05-23 and opened in 1665-05-23.

Will chart of Belchior da Costa. He was the administrator of two chapels, one instituted by Francisco Vaz de Sousa and Ana da Costa, his parents, and another instituted by his grandparents. He joins the two chapels, annexing other assets and increasing the charges. He appoints Ana da Costa, his sister, and António de Sousa, his nephew, executors and administrators, who were to appoint the son they wanted to succeed them.

Will chart by which Branca Lopes established an entail, incorporating all the free assets she had inherited from her husband Luís Lopes Peres, for the fulfilment of the charges celebrated in the convent of São Francisco de Évora. She designated Leonor de Horta, her husband's niece, to be its first administrator. She should succeed her eldest son or daughter.

Will chart by which Frei Jerónimo da Cunha ordered the construction of a chapel in the church of Santiago of Montemor-o-Novo, entailing immovable property to fulfill the charges. He designated Diogo Narciso to be its first administrator. If this administrator died without heirs, it should succeed the institutor's daughter Beatriz if she was not professed, with the obligation to marry a nobleman with the surname "Cunha". In case of extinction of the lineage, the eldest servant of the last administrator should succeed in the administration.

Will chart by which Maria Bárbara wanted to be buried in the Church of São Francisco de Portel. She established an entail in the village of Portel, incorporating assets to fulfill the pious charges. She designated her sister Catarina Mendes Barbosa to be its first administrator, and Francisco Barbosa and his eldest son should succeed her. This entail is composed of part of the "herdade do Cabouco" with its houses in Monte do Trigo; the "herdade do Jesus", in the parish of São João; the "herdade da Fornalha", in the parish of Santa Ana; and olive groves and lands in Valverde.

Will chart of António de Almeida, ordering his grave with Maria Soares, his wife, in the church of Santiago de Cassurrães. He entails his assets in chapel and entail and appoints António Ribeiro de Almeida, his son, heir, executor and administrator. The charges were to be celebrated at the altar of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in the church of Santiago de Cassurrães.

Will chart of Manuel de Cerqueira de Aguiar, ordering his grave in the church of São Pedro of Penedono. He established an entail, entailing a third of his assets, in addition to others, to fulfill the charges, celebrated in the church of São Pedro of Penedono. He appoints Manuel de Cerqueira de Carvalho, his son, administrator.

Will chart by which Estêvão da Rocha de Barros wanted to be buried in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Turcifal. He designated his brother António da Rocha de Barros to be his heir without any obligations. The institutor annexed his assets to those he inherited from his brother, in order to fulfil the pious obligations. The same would happen with those of his wife Catarina Sanches de Tovar, in case he would administer them.

Will chart of Maria Luís founding a chapel in the monastery of São Francisco in Santarém, entailing her farm of Ressaio. She appoints Nuno Gonçalves for her executor, and frei Pedro Abril for vedor of her will; both will appoint the adminstrator after Nuno Gonçalves' death. Nuno Gonçalves will also be the first chapel's administrator.

Will chart of João Martins Tinoco, naming António de Palma, his brother-in-law, his executor, and ordering to be buried in the mother church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Portimão. He institutes a chapel, to which he entailed the assets that remain of the third part of his assests, after the legacies have been fulfilled, to fulfill his charges, and he names Francisco Tinoco, his son, as administrator. If he died without children, he would be left to Belchior Lopes, institutor's son.

Will chart of Gil Rebelo Cardoso, ordering his grave in his chapel, invoking Santo António. He and his wife, Helena de Figueiredo de Almeida, entail all of their assets, except those of António Cardoso Correia's dowry, to that chapel, to fulfill the charges. They designate their niece, Helena, as first administrator, after both their deaths.

Will chart of Jerónimo Côrte-Real founding an entail with all their properties located in Évora and in the islands of Terceira and S. Jorge (Azores) and chosing the farmstead (herdade) of Vale de Palma, in Évora, as the entail's head. He appoints his future male son as his heir and the entail's successor or, if he dies without offspring, his brother, Manuel Côrte-Real. The testator also orders the celebration of a daily mass in the mostery where he will be buried, choosing the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisbon, in his father's chapel.
Will approved in 1542-06-06 and opened in 1542-07-14.

Will chart made by Catarina Mouzinho in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of two masses celebrated every year in Castelo de Vide. She appointed Maria and Isabel as first administrators during their lifetime and, after their death, Manuel and Gaspar; on their death, their children should succeed them.

Will chart made by Diogo Caldeira de Tavares revoking his previous will chart, that was made in common with Maria de Sousa. He leaves the entail instituted by Jorge Caldeira de Tavares to Pedro de Sousa Caldeira.
He orders the foundation of another entail with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year. He appointed his second great-grandson to be the first administrator during his lifetime. If his grandson Pedro de Sousa does not have children, a shelter for thirteen women should be set up in his house, opposite the Colégio of the Companhia de Jesus.

Will chart made by Domingos da Silva in which he ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of three masses celebrated every year in the church of S. Tiago of Portalegre. He appointed Isabel da Silva to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by her eldest male son.

Will chart by which Pedro de Paiva expresses his wish to be buried in the church of the Misericórdia of Lisboa, where his parents are buried, whilst his burial place isn't ready. He entails the third part of his assets, which he bequeaths to his son, António de Paiva, with the obligation of three annual masses in the altar closest to his tomb.
Followed by an approval deed and an opening deed of the will, dated 1594-11-03.

Will through which Doutor Gaspar Vaz Rebelo, Desembargador do Paço, establishes two entails, with the assets he owned in Lisboa and Évora, appointing his two sons, Francisco Rebelo and Manuel Vaz Rebelo, as first administrators of those institutions. If neither of them survived, or had descendants, both of the entails would be inherited by Gaspar de Figueira, the testator's nephew. He instituted pious obligations of celebrating annual masses in the chapel of Jesus, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, and in his chapel, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Évora. He chooses to be temporarily buried in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. After his flesh disappeared, his bones should be transferred to the grave he had inside his chapel, in the convent of S. Domingos of Évora.

Will chart by which Guiomar Rebelo expresses her wish to be buried in the tomb of her husband, Baltasar Ribeiro, in the church of the convent of São Francisco of Lisboa. She entails 30 000 reis of interest and bequeaths them to her cousin, Mécia Cardoso, wife of Manuel de Beça, with the obligation of an annual mass on Christmas day and another on every holiday of the Virgin. She also appoints D. Josefa Rebelo, daughter of D. Maria de Gouveia, her niece, and of Valentim da Costa, as her universal heir, establishing another entail with a weekly mass.

Will chart made by padre Gabriel Francisco Tavares, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in Amieira. The institutor named padre Manuel Tavares, his nephew, as first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he would be succeeded by Sabina Tavares and from there on the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. If any of them were named Gabriel, would take precedence over the others.

Will chart made by Duarte de Almeida de Torres Manso, in which he ordered the foundation of an entail with an obligation of 25 annual masses. The institutor named Maria Eugénia Manso, his wife, as first administrator of this entail and, after her death, the entail was to be attached to the one founded by his ancestors, of which he was the administrator. António de Torres, his son, was to succeed him.

Will chart by which D. Cecília Henriques, wife of D. Jerónimo de Castro, expresses her wish to be buried in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade of the monastery of Santo Elói of Lisboa.
