Exemplification of an extract of the will of Diogo de Aragão Pereira ordering the foundation of two chapels in the capitania of Baía, each with a weekly mass obligation, for which he entails a farm near his sugar-mill named Engenho de Cima. He named his older son António de Aragão Pereira to be the first administrator of both chapels, and his male heirs after him, and in the absence of heirs, the administration should be given, in order, to his sons Pedro Camelo de Aragão or Diogo de Aragão Pereira.

Will (extract) of Rui Mendes, by which he left to his nephew, son of his sister, estates to be entailed in a chapel, with the perpetual obligation to celebrate 12 anual masses. Succession was to pass to the first-born sons. The administrators had the obligation to entail assets, and were compelled to registrer the institution in the "Livro das Capelas do Provedor da Comarca".

Will (extract) of Manuel Abreu de Sousa instituting an entail with the third part of his assets, including a property in Elvas ("herdade da Alcarapinha"). After his death, the estates should remain in D. Filipa's hands, his wife, who would be succeeded by his son Sebastião de Sousa as administrator. The administrators of the entail were obligated to support the celebration of an annual mass, each All Saints' day.

Will (extract) of Francisco Velasco de Gouveia, by which he establishes Baltasar Pereira do Lago, son of Gaspar Pereira do Lago, his nephew, as his heir. The testator entails all his real estate, including houses in Lisboa, lands (casal) in Mafra and the Fonte Boa's estate (herdade), in Ferreira do Alentejo. The entail's administrator was obligated to administer it with the chapel established by Beatriz de Gouveia, his mother, in the convent of São Domingos of Lisboa, and with the one established by Duarte de Almeida, in the same convent. Francisco added annual masses to the pious obligation his mother had already instituted. He chooses to be buried in the chapel, located in the cloister of the referred convent, where his parents lied.

Will (extract) by which Lopo Duarte Ximenes and his wife Joana da Veiga established an entail using their third part, appointing their eldest son Manuel Ximenes to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. The successors are obligated to use half of their third to be incorporated in the entail.

Will (extract) by which Garcia de Resende established an entail, incorporating assets for the fulfillment of the pious charges. He designated his son Francisco de Resende to be its first administrator and his eldest son should succeed him.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Malheiro establishes an entail with his third part, and appoints his son, Francisco Malheiro, as administrator. This entail shall always be joined to the one established by his wife, D. Ana Maria Ferreira, and have the same conditions of succession and pious obligations as hers.

Will (extract) of Diogo Carneiro and Beatriz de Castro, his wife. They instituted a chapel, entailing a third of their assets for the celebration of charges, upon finalising the payment of legacies. Francisco Carneiro de Brito, his son, is appointed first administrator. Beatriz de Castro administered a chapel instituted by Helena de Brito, her aunt, for which she also appoints Francisco Carneiro de Brito, her son, ordering him to annex it to the chapel she instituted with her husband.

He bequeaths it to his eldest son, Jorge de Barros, and to his successors thereafter, under the condition that they shall keep the family name Barros, order an annual divine office for his soul in his burial place and add the third part of their thirds to the entail. If Jorge de Barros has already died at the time of his father's death, the entail shall be inherited by his younger brother, João de Barros. If João de Barros has also already died, it shall go to their cousin, Francisco de Barros. He asks that his wife and executors add to his third part his casal in Loures, his houses in Rua Nova, Lisboa, a public debt instrument of 100 000 reis or his farmstead in quinta da Fonte da Telha, whichever is better. He also orders that his son, when he becomes an adult, add his legitime to the entail, together with the third part of his third.

Will (extract) by which doutor Gabriel de Almeida demands that the sucessor of his entail, Gabriel, his nephew, orders a daily mass with responsory and an anniversary mass for his and his parent's souls in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. He appoints his sister and brother-in-law as administrators of the entail during Gabriel's minority. He also establishes that the sucessors of his entail shall pay 30 000 reis to his sister, D. Joana de Vasconcelos, nun in the monastery of Odivelas, while she lives. If the lineage of his nephews is extinguished, the entail shall also be extinguished and the properties shall be given to the Ordem Terceira and to the Hospital of da Irmandade dos Clérigos da Caridade, with the same obligation of masses, or to the church of S. Lourenço, if the convent of S. Francisco doesn't accept it.

Will (extract) by which Henrique Jacques establishes an entail with the third part of his revenue. He bequeaths it to his eldest son, and his descendants thereafter, who shall also annex to the entail their third parts and use the surname Jacques. He asks his wife to also annex her third part to the entail, in the quinta do Vale de Mourelos. He establishes a chapel of three annual masses in the convent or church where he shall be buried. If his descendants die before his wife, the entail shall go to her, until she marries again. Will (extract) by which Mamede Soares, administrator of the chapel established by his grandmother, Mécia Dias, bequeaths to his wife, D. Isabel de Macedo, houses near the armazéns do rei, in Lisboa, with the obligation of two annual masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. After her death, the houses shall be annexed to the chapel, with the same obligation.

Will (extract), by which António Lopes de Murga orders his wife, Violante Correia, to acquire a papal authorization so that, for each mass prayed in the chapel of the Santas Relíquias of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, established by his uncle, Gaspar Lopes de Murga, a soul is taken from Purgatory. He also asks her to buy 1000 reais of foros to keep a lamp permanently lit in the chapel. He entails a vineyard and properties he bought to the chapel, with the obligation of six annual masses, and orders the acquisition of more properties to establish a daily mass for the souls of his relatives. He also orders his wife to establish a daily mass for his, his son and his relative's souls, in a church or convent of her choosing, with the capacity to appoint any person she wants as its administrator, after her death.

Will (extract) by which Doutor Luís Correia establishes a chapel with a daily mass and one yearly divine office in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. He entails to it rents in the value of 1 000 cruzados, to be employed in the acquisition of interest and properties for the chapel. He appoints his niece, D. Maria Mancelos, daughter of D. Isabel de Leão, as the chapel's first administrator, under the condition that she shall entail to it the properties she will inherit from her mother and grandmother. Her successors shall also annex to the entail a third of the third part of their inheritances. If D. Maria dies without descendants, the entail shall be inherited by her sister, D. Isabel. If the family line is extinguished, the obligation will be bequeathed to the Misericórdia of Coimbra.

Will (extract) by which Violante do Quental, widow of doutor Henrique Esteves da Veiga and daughter of Jorge Afonso, expresses her wish to be buried in her family's chapel, established by her grandmother, Violante Gonçalves, in front of the chapel of S. Pedro of the cathedral of Lisboa. She orders 12 anniversaries, 35 annual masses and a divine office with a sung mass over her tomb, and entails to this obligation her properties in Lisboa, which she bequeaths to D. Violante de Vilhena.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar de Brito Freire and his wife, D. Francisca da Silveira, entail their third parts and their farmstead of Vale de Florete with the obligation of a daily mass for their souls in the chapel founded by Gaspar's father, Estêvão de Brito Freire, in the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus of Lisboa. They bequeath it to their eldest daughter, D. Violante, and to her successors. They also order the keeping of 120 000 réis of interest, which shall be given to their other daughter, D. Beatriz, for her marriage. Another entail can be established for her with this interest, if their son, Luís de Brito, wishes to also give money to her. It shall have the obligation of two annual masses in their chapel. If D. Beatriz doesn't have heirs, her entail can be annexed to the one given to her sister. If D. Violante's lineage is extinguished, her entail shall pass to the administrator of the entail of Estêvão de Brito Freire.

Will (extract) by which Diogo Marchão Temudo declared that he wanted to celebrate each year the Santo António's day and all the entail's successors were due to fulfil this obligation. He designated his daughter Luísa Maria Ravasco and his wife D. Brites Teresa de Mendonça to be his heirs, and the successors were obligated to incorporate their thirds into this entail. Their parents were buried in the Church of São Vicente de Fora and he wanted to be buried in the same place.

Will (extract) by which João Gomes da Mata, Luís Gomes da Mata's son, added one third of the inheritance to Luís Gomes da Mata's entail. João Gomes da Mata also established his own entail using two thirds of his third part of the inheritance.

Will (extract) by which cónego Pedro de Távora Tavares establishes two daily masses in the chapel of S. Sebastião of the cathedral of Lisboa, to be prayed by two chaplains elected by the successor of his entail, which had belonged to his grandparents. He appoints his nephew, Bernardino de Távora Freire, son of his sister, D. Joana de Távora, as his universal heir and successor on the administration of the entail. He annexes to it part of his properties in Algarve and his silver and tapestries.

Will (extract) by which Francisco Lopes de Bolhão annexed an entail to his grandfather Lopo das Regras' chapel, appointing his mother Isabel Gramacho to continue to be its administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of a farm called "Bulhaco".

Will (extract) by which Manuel da Silva established an entail, designating his son D. António da Silva to be its first administrator with the obligation to incorporate his "legítima" into this entail. It should succeed his heirs and, if he died childless, his brother Nicolau da Silva and his heirs. The successors were also obligated to incorporate their thirds into this entail.

Will (extract) by which padre Baltasar Soares Magro entails a casal in Calhariz de Benfica, Lisboa, with an obligation of 150 masses for his soul in the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas. He designates his great-nephew, Sebastião Ferreira Magro, son of his nephew Manuel Ferreira Magro, as first administrator, and his descendants afterwards.

Will (extract) of Maria Velez, wife of Heitor de Bairos, founding a chapel or an entail in the church of Espírito Santo in the village of Crato. She appoints his brother doutor Diogo da Silva to the administration of the entail.

Will (extract) by which Margarida de Landim, widow of Pedro Barriga, entails her houses in Fangas da Farinha, Lisboa, with an obligation of two annual masses in the chapel of Chagas of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. She bequeaths them to her eldest son, João Alves Barriga, and to his sucessors. If, at the time of her death, João has already died or has no male descendants, the entail shall pass to his younger brother, Gonçalo Vaz Barriga.
Followed by a note explaining that the houses entailed to this chapel were demolished by order of the king and replaced by a farmstead in Loures, according to a consignation letter and sentence from 1748.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Barbuda de Melo bequeaths all his assets to Francisco Vieira de Castro, his brother, ordering him to sell them and to buy properties with the purpose of establishing an entail. The testator asks Francisco and his successors to celebrate annual masses in the church of S. Domingos of Lisboa and to donate, each year, 100 000 réis for the dowry of two orphan girls and the same amount to support the ransom of two portuguese captives in Africa.

Will (extract) by which Pedro Jaques de Magalhães established an entail, designating his eldest son Manuel Jaques de Magalhães to be its first administrator. He declared that he and his wife Dona Maria Vicência de Vilhena were contracted by a dowry deed to use their thirds for an entail's foundation. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses for his and his wife's soul wherever he wanted. If the administrator died childless, it should succeed their daughter Dona Antónia de Vilhena and her heirs or, in her absence, the other daughters Dona Violante de Vilhena and or Dona Brites da Silva. All of the entail's administrators were obligated to incorporate half of their thirds into this entail, but the first administrator is obligated to incorporate the paternal and maternal "legítimas". The institutor is also the administrator of the Morgado da Bordeira, and for that reason their heirs should also succeed in this entail. This entail is composed of houses in "Poço dos Negros", located in Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Manuel Malheiro expresses his wish to be buried next to his first wife, D. Isabel Fernandes, and to his second wife, D. Maria Malheiro de Melo, his niece, in the chapels of Santo António and Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the cathedral of Lisboa. He confirms the institution of an entail which he had established with his first wife in a previous will, entailing to it all his properties in Azambuja, Lisboa and Corroios. Will (extract) of Luís Gavião Barreto, in which the testator declares that his wife Catarina Lobo was to be his universal heir. They had agreed on the establishment of an entail, for which Luís Gavião Barreto left his "terça", including the lands he owned in the parish of Roriz and the patronage of the local church. The administrator would be his son Manuel Gavião Barreto, who would take possession of the properties after the death of Luís and Catarina, and who would be succeeded by his first-born son. If he died without descendants, an administrator would be appointed from among the relatives of Luís Gavião Barreto's mother.

Will (extract) by which D. Maria da Guerra, widow of Francisco de Barros de Paiva, entails her quinta in ribeira de Loures, called Casal da Freira, which she inherited from her husband, entailing it. She bequeaths it to her son, João de Barros da Silva, and afterwards to her grandson, Francisco de Barros, and their successors, with the same conditions established in her husband's will. She adds to them another obligation of five masses for her soul in her burial place, in the Chapter house of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. She orders that this entail shall not be separated from the one established by her husband, and that both of them shall be inherited by the same person. She also orders that the remains of her third part shall be entailed with the casal da Freira.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Lopes de Murga declares his intention of being buried in the chapel he was building in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his parents and siblings were also buried. He establishes that properties should be bought for the maintenance of the chapel, with total a revenue of 100 000 reis, and that 12 divine offices and 36 masses should be prayed annually for his, his parents, his siblings and his successors' souls. He appoints his brother, Doutor Francisco Lopes, as the entail's first administrator or, if he is already dead, his other brother, António Lopes de Murga. They shall pay 400 000 reis to another of their brothers, Rui Lopes de Murga.

Will (extract) by which padre Cosme Luís da Silva annexes multiple foros he owns to the chapel established by his mother, Juliana Gomes, of which he is the first administrator. He adds to its obligations one annual mass for his soul, and appoints his brother, Ambrósio da Silva, as his heir, according to his mother's will, and Ambrósio's son, Luís da Silva, after him.

Will (extract) by which doutor Bartolomeu Bernardes bequeaths his daughter, Lucrécia Bernardes, the third part of his properties, consisting of houses in Lisboa, with an obligation of four annual masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where he wishes to be buried. If his daughter dies without descendants, they shall be given to his son, Bernardo de Aguiar. If he also has no descendants, it shall be given to the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento of the church of Mártires.

Will (extract) by which Jorge Barreiros bequeaths the third part of his assets to Isabel Lopes, his wife, determining that it should be employed in the acquisition of a property, which must be united to the entail left to him by his first wife, Isabel de Soveral. After Isabel Lopes' death, the entail should be inherited by Diogo Barreiros, the testator's grandson, and subsequently passed to his eldest son. Each administrator of the entail are obligated to add to it the third part of their assets and masses to the ones celebrated for the souls of the institutors. They should also help to erect a chapel in the church of S. João da Praça of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which António Viegas Gentil established an entail, designating his daughter D. Maria Chichorra de Sousa to be its first administrator. She should incorporate her "legítima" and other assets into this entail, under penalty of loosing this succession. In this case, this entail should be succeeded by his nephew Francisco de Lucena. If his daughter accepted his condition, and if she died without heirs, this entail should be succeeded by D. Leonor and her heirs from the second marriage, but she just could marry after her daughter's. The institutor also established that his assets should be used to buy public debt instrument or immovable goods in order to incorporate them into the entail. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses wherever he would be buried. This entail is composed of houses located in Lisboa.

Will (extract) in which Ana de Abreu bequeaths all her remaining assets to her brother, Miguel de Abreu, on the condition that they form an entail. She provides further details about her assets and what should be entailed, including her houses in Poço de Borratém, Lisboa, and a sum of money that must be invested in properties or a public debt instrument. The testator appoints her brother, Frei Bartolomeu de Santo Agostinho, as her will executor, and instructs him and Miguel de Abreu to prepare the deed for the institution of this entail. She establishes three conditions that Miguel de Abreu and the successors of this entail must fulfil in perpetuity. Firstly, they must fulfil pious obligations for her soul at the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa. Secondly, they must provide financial support to her brother, Frei Bartolomeu de Santo Agostinho, during his lifetime by giving him a specified sum of money. Lastly, they must also adopt the surname “Abreu”. Miguel de Abreu and his successors are expected to add more assets and enrich the entail after her death. She also instructs the executors to include a copy of this will extract in the foundation deed to make known her wishes.
Ana de Abreu orders her will executor to arrange for a daily mass and other perpetuals pious charges at the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa. As payment, the priests will receive 25 000 réis annually.

Will (extract) by which Lázaro Lopes and his wife, Francisca Dias, appoint the one of them who survives the other as their heir, with the obligation that they shall annex all of their remaining properties to the chapel of Francisco Lopes, administered by Lázaro Lopes, and establish a new obligation of masses for both their souls.

Will (extract) by which Mécia Nunes bequeaths her houses in Lisboa to her former slave, Maria Nunes, with an obligation of 20 annual masses in the convent of S. Francisco de Xabregas, Lisboa. Will (extract) by which Manuel de Sande and his wife, Beatriz de Vasconcelos, appoint their granddaughter, D. Beatriz, daughter of their daughter D. Maria, as their universal heir. Will (extract) by which Florência de Albuquerque established an entail with a farmstead (quinta) in Alfeite, lands in Almada, properties (casal) in Trajouce, Cascais and houses in bairro dos Escolares and Portas do Sol, Lisboa, thus fulfilling the will she and her late husband, Jorge Cotão, had previously made. She designated her niece, Andresa de Albuquerque, and her husband, Jerónimo Pires, to administrate it, obligating them and their descendants to support the celebration of annual masses in the church of S. Will (extract) made by Fernando Lopes Lobo in which he ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in the monastery of São Francisco of Évora. He appointed Nuno Fernandes Lobo to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest male son.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz da Cunha entails the third part of her assets to a chapel in the church of the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisboa, with the obligation of 33 masses. She appoints her husband, Simão Monteiro, as administrator of this chapel during his lifetime. After his death, this chapel will be entailed to the one in Beja established by Lourenço Vaz Testa, with the same obligation of 33 masses in S. Francisco of Lisboa, and a tombo will be made and added to the one in Beja. Afterwards, the entail will be bequeathed to the closest relative of her lineage, which, at the time, was João Serrão da Cunha, son of Ana de Bendanha.

Will (extract) by which Carlos Nunes, o Velho, designates his son, Luís Gomes Nunes, as his heir. He bequeaths him the remaining part of his properties in Elvas and a public debt instrument in the Almoxarifado of that city, with an obligation of a daily mass for his soul, the soul of his deceased wife, Violante Álvares, the souls of his parents and the souls of his deceased sons, Gonçalo Rodrigues Nunes and António Gomes Nunes. He orders that these masses shall be prayed in the cathedral of Elvas, where he wishes to be buried.

Will (extract) by which capitão Diogo da Veiga requests to be buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, wearing the habit of the Franciscans. He establishes a chapel in the same convent, entailing to it the third part of his inheritance, set on a public debt instrument in the Casa das Imposições de Vinho, with the obligation of one weekly mass. He appoints his daughter, D. Bárbara, as the entail's first administrator, and her successors after her death. The remains of his assets shall be used to buy properties for the chapel.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz de Mesquita founded an entail with all her assets, including lands (casal) in Vila Nova, determining that its revenues had to support the celebration of a weekly mass and other masses every Christmas in the church of S. Francisco. The institutor appointed her brother, Gonçalo Pinto de Mesquita, as her universal heir, executor and successor in the entail's administration.

Will (extract) of Domingos Martins and Catarina Vaz ordering, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass, naming her daughter Ana Vaz and the descendants appointed by her on her will. If she died without heirs, the administration should be transmitted to her brothers Francisco or André, and if none of them left descendants, the administration should be given to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia of Angra. They ordered that all the administrators should entail the third part of their own reserved portions to the entail. Any administrator who committed crimes of lese-majeste would loose the administration.

Will (extract) made by Catarina Vaz in which she ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of three masses celebrated every year in the church of Santa Maria a Grande, in Portalegre. She appointed Fernando da Mota to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest male son.

Will (extract) by which doutor Gaspar da Nóbrega establishes an entail in his herdade da Fronteira. He bequeaths it to his daughter, Briolanja da Nóbrega, daughter of his first wife, Aldonça Godinho, and to her sucessors, with the obligation of a daily mass for his soul in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. If his daughter doesn't have any heirs, it shall be bequeathed to her brother, Pedro Godinho.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz da Cunha entails the third part of her assets to a chapel in the church of the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisboa, with the obligation of 33 masses. She appoints her husband, Simão Monteiro, as administrator of this chapel during his lifetime. After his death, this chapel will be entailed to the one in Beja established by Lourenço Vaz Testa, with the same obligation of 33 masses in S. Francisco of Lisboa, and a tombo will be made and added to the one in Beja. Afterwards, the entail will be bequeathed to the closest relative of her lineage, which, at the time, was João Serrão da Cunha, son of Ana de Bendanha.

Will (extract) by which Garcia de Melo, D. Margarida de Castro's husband, establishes an entail with the third part of the couple's assets, including a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis. He ordered his successors to use part of its income to support, each year, the marriage of an orphan girl, before which a mass should be celebrated for his soul. He appoints his eldest son, Francisco de Melo, as the entail's first administrator. He chooses to be buried in the grave he had in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, where the mortal remains of his descendants should thenceforth be interred.
The entail's succession would be conditioned by the same clauses that his father and grandfather had formulated when they had established their entails.

Will (extract) by which Pedro Lopes da Silva established an entail, appointing his wife Margarida Caldeira to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of a farm called "Lagem" and a casal called "Maqueda" located in Alenquer.

Will (extract) by which doutor Manuel Correia Barba appoints his brother, Álvaro Correia de Mesquita, as his universal heir. He bequeaths him all his properties, including a farmstead and an olive grove in Penha de França, Lisboa, which shall pass to his successors as an entail, with the obligation of a weekly mass in his burial place.

Will (extract) by which João Gomes da Mata established an entail using two thirds of his third part of the inheritance. He ordered the purchase of a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis for the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. One third of the inheritance should be added to his father Luís Gomes da Mata's entail.

Will (extract) by which Jorge Lopes transmitted Mécia Fernandes' entail to his wife, Catarina Rodrigues, ordering her to fulfil the pious obligations established by the institutor. After his wife's death, the entail would be inherited by their eldest son and passed to his descendants. If she died without leaving heirs, it would be bequeathed to the eldest son of André Lopes, the testator's brother. The entail's future administrators were obligated to support the celebration of a mass, every month, in the church of S. Miguel, where the testator's body would be buried.

Will (extract) by which Gil de Leão expresses his wish to be buried in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, next to his wife, Ana da Costa. He establishes a chapel of three annual masses where his executor wishes, and a divine office in the convent of S. Francisco, entailed to his houses in rua da Betesga and Alfama, Lisboa, and foros of houses in adro da Conceição. He appoints his son, Tomás de Leão, as administrator of the entail, and his descendants afterwards, who shall add part of their thirds to it. If Tomás de Leão dies without heirs, it will be administered by his sister, Guiomar de Caminha, and her children. If there is no legitimate or illegitimate descendance, the succession shall fall to Francisca da Costa, Gil de Leão's goddaughter, daughter of Gonçalo da Costa, or to her sister, Joana, and their successors. If the whole family line is extinguished, it will be bequeathed to the Misericórdia of Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Martinho Lourenço established an entail using the third part of his immovable goods, designating his son Gil Martins to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. The successors are obligated to add the third part of their immovable goods to the entail.

Will (extract) by which D. Mécia de Abreu declares that she had made an agreement with her brother-in-law, D. António Gonçalves da Câmara, who committed himself to give her or her descendants 30 000 réis, each year, as long as he lived, and to bequeath her, after his death, part of the patrimony left by her sister. She orders her successors, future administrator of the entail established by her and her late husband, D. Pedro de Moura, to use those assets to support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass in the church of S. João da Praça of Lisboa, where her body and her husband's remains would be buried. While that patrimony could not be employed in that manner, the revenues of her houses located on Rua das Arcas would fund that pious obligation.
The testator also demands each one of the future administrators of her entail to add to it part of their assets.

Will (extract) by which D. Catarina da Silva annexes her quinta do Vale de Mourelos to her husband's entail. She bequeathes it to her son, Pedro Jacques da Silva, under the same conditions as in his father's will, adding that her descendants are to be called Jacques da Silva. She also adds three more annual masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa to the ones established by her husband. If the lineage of her and her husband's descendants is separated, her part of the entail shall be separated from her husband's part, and be given to her closest relative of the Silva lineage, under the same conditions.

Will (extract) by which D. Mécia de Gouveia establishes an entail with her third part, consisting of properties in Santarém. She bequeaths it to her son, Leonel de Brito, and to his wife, D. Joana. They shall have the obligation of ordering five annual masses in the convent of Santo António of Varatojo of Torres Vedras, and of keeping a lamp lit there. They can appoint one of their children as heir. After the death of this heir, the entail shall be annexed to the one Leonel de Brito possesses.

Will chart by which Baltasar Mendes dos Reis wanted to be buried in the Monastery of São Francisco de Évora, where his father Manuel Gomes de Melo was buried. He founded the chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Reis dos Presos da Praça, in Évora, designating his illegitimate son Francisco de Melo to be its administrator. He also designated him to be the administrator of the Quinta de Santo António, in Pêra Manca, of which he was the current administrator.

Will chart by which D. Paula de Ataíde wanted to be buried in the church of Santa Maria de Estremoz. She entails the third part of her assets, which included the "herdade da Amieira",in order to fulfil the pious charges. She designated her son Duarte de Ataíde to be its first administrator. The administrator could nominate any son or grandson he wanted to succeed him and, afterwards, it should always succeed the eldest son oh his decendents.

Will chart made by D. Joana in which she ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of four masses celebrated every week in the church of Santa Maria do Crato. She appointed Simão Palha, her husband, to be the first administrator during his lifetime. The other conditions would be identical to those of the chapel established by Simão Palha and Beatriz Freire.

Will chart by which Frei Jerónimo da Cunha ordered the construction of a chapel in the church of Santiago of Montemor-o-Novo, entailing immovable property to fulfill the charges. He designated Diogo Narciso to be its first administrator. If this administrator died without heirs, it should succeed the institutor's daughter Beatriz if she was not professed, with the obligation to marry a nobleman with the surname "Cunha". In case of extinction of the lineage, the eldest servant of the last administrator should succeed in the administration.

Will chart by which António de Novais Machado wanted to be buried in the chapel of his father-in-law Manuel da Costa, in the Monastery of Castanheira, and be transferred afterwards to the Monastery of São Francisco de Alenquer. He incorporated into this entail the third part of his assets in order to fulfill the pious obligations in the church where he would be buried. He designated his wife D. Maria de Sequeira to be its first administrator and she should nominate one of their daughters to succeed.

Will chart of Doutor Rui Gago de Andrade and Catarina de Brito, his wife. They entail assets to fulfill charges. They appoint D. Catarina, daughter of Estêvão Gago de Andrade and of D. Guiomar de Brito, their niece, as first administrator. Her eldest son was to succeed her.

Will chart made by João Rodrigues de Castelo Branco, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail in Portalegre, with a perpetual obligation of six masses celebrated every year. He named his wife Ana Ribeira to administrate the entail during her lifetime and, after her death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. All administrators should annex their own reserved portions to the entail and could not add not more than one mass to the perpetual mass obligation.

Will chart of António de Almeida, ordering his grave with Maria Soares, his wife, in the church of Santiago de Cassurrães. He entails his assets in chapel and entail and appoints António Ribeiro de Almeida, his son, heir, executor and administrator. The charges were to be celebrated at the altar of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in the church of Santiago de Cassurrães.

Will chart of Manuel de Cerqueira de Aguiar, ordering his grave in the church of São Pedro of Penedono. He established an entail, entailing a third of his assets, in addition to others, to fulfill the charges, celebrated in the church of São Pedro of Penedono. He appoints Manuel de Cerqueira de Carvalho, his son, administrator.

Will chart by which Estêvão da Rocha de Barros wanted to be buried in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Turcifal. He designated his brother António da Rocha de Barros to be his heir without any obligations. The institutor annexed his assets to those he inherited from his brother, in order to fulfil the pious obligations. The same would happen with those of his wife Catarina Sanches de Tovar, in case he would administer them.

Will chart of Jerónimo Côrte-Real founding an entail with all their properties located in Évora and in the islands of Terceira and S. Jorge (Azores) and chosing the farmstead (herdade) of Vale de Palma, in Évora, as the entail's head. He appoints his future male son as his heir and the entail's successor or, if he dies without offspring, his brother, Manuel Côrte-Real. The testator also orders the celebration of a daily mass in the mostery where he will be buried, choosing the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisbon, in his father's chapel.
Will approved in 1542-06-06 and opened in 1542-07-14.

Will chart made by Beatriz Matela de Meneses in which she ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of daily mass celebrated in Portalegre. She appointed D. Francisca da Silva de Sande to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by D. Martinho de Vargas. They would be obliged to choose one of their children, whether male or female, to succeed him in the administration, being able to add to the institution the clauses they wanted.

Will chart made by Tomás Tavares in which he ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in the convent of São Francisco of Portalegre. He appointed Sebastião Tavares to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest legitimate male son.

Will through which Doutor Gaspar Vaz Rebelo, Desembargador do Paço, establishes two entails, with the assets he owned in Lisboa and Évora, appointing his two sons, Francisco Rebelo and Manuel Vaz Rebelo, as first administrators of those institutions. If neither of them survived, or had descendants, both of the entails would be inherited by Gaspar de Figueira, the testator's nephew. He instituted pious obligations of celebrating annual masses in the chapel of Jesus, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, and in his chapel, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Évora. He chooses to be temporarily buried in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. After his flesh disappeared, his bones should be transferred to the grave he had inside his chapel, in the convent of S. Domingos of Évora.

Will chart by which Francisco de Alva Brandão founded three entails. The first one was composed of the farmsteads of Santa Catarina and Pontafigo, in the island of São Tomé, and was to be administered by his brother, Mateus de Alva, who should be succeeded by his son, Francisco. The second one had an obligation of annual masses in the convent of Capuchos, in Castelo de Vide, and was to be administered by Roque Nunes Barradas, the institutor's brother-in-law, who should be succeeded by his wife, Violante Brandão, sister of the institutor, and by their eldest son. The third one would also have an obligation of masses in Castelo de Vide and would be administered by Violante Brandão, and afterwards by one of her sons or daughter, who would be chosen by appointment.

Will chart by which D. Afonso de Castelo Branco, Meirinho-mor do Reino, and his wife, D. Isabel de Castro, established an entail with the third part of their assets, which included houses in Évora, determining that it should be annexed to the entail instituted by D. Guiomar de Noronha ("morgado de Montalvo") and administrated by their eldest son. Therefore, it would be transmitted according to the clauses of its foundation deed. However, if they were unable of bearing a son, their entail would not be attached to the one founded by Guiomar de Noronha. Instead it would be administrated by the institutor's eldest daughter, D. Maria de Castro, and her husband, D. Garcia de Meneses, and transmitted to their descendants. They also incorporated a tapestry in their entail and a rent (foro) of wheat taken from a property in Serpa to Guiomar de Noronha's entail, which they administrated. They declared that their bodies would be buried in the main chapel of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Moura. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1556-08-25.

Will chart of Pedro Eanes do Canto founding, among other dispositions, two entails, one for his son António Pires, born of his first marriage with Joana da Barca, and the other for his son João da Silva, born of his second marriage with Violante da Silva. For the first entail he entailed several properties in the islands of São Jorge, Pico and Faial, and a estate named Quinta de São Pedro, with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass in the church of N. Sra. de Nazaré built on the same state, where a monument in his homenage should be built declaring that he participated on the battles of Arzila, Azamor, Afnul, Benegisna, in Persia and Almedina. For the second entail he entailed several properties in Terceira island, in Cabo da Praia, mount Brasil and a state in Lajes, also with a perpetual mass obligation with a weekly mass preached on the chapel of Jesus, that he was building in the main church of Angra. Both the entails had identical obligations, and António Pires should choose which one he would have, and João da Silva should have the other one. Both should be succeeded by their eldest sons, preferably male, and each administrator should annex 2/3 of his own reserved portion (terça) to the entail. The administrators should also use the surname "do Canto" or lose the administration. He also appoints Francisco da Silva, his illegitimate son, to succeed him on the administration of the chapel founded by Vasco Afonso, vicar of Machico, island of Madeira.

Will chart by which Jorge de Sousa Mascarenhas declared that he was married to the institutor's daughter, D. Úrsula Maria, who designated him to be the chapel's administrator. He designated his cousin Jerónimo da Silva Azevedo, to be its administrator after his death. Jorge de Sousa Mascarenhas also declared that he murdered his wife D. Úrsula Maria under the suspicion of being betrayed by her, which he discovered later it was not true. Finally, he declared that his wife made him a donation of all her father's assets, namely a farm and houses in Lisboa, with the obligation to celebrate masses, and that he wanted to incorporate into the chapel of his father-in-law a public debt instrument of 20 000 réis in Mesa da Imposição dos Vinhos.

Will chart of Jorge de Sousa de Alvim, ordering his grave in the hermitage of Santo António, which he had built at his Quinta de Pedrógão, on the outskirts of Torres Novas. He establishes an entail and chapel, entailing all his assets, located in the Quinta de Pedrógão and on the outskirts of Torres Novas and Porto de Mós. He appoints Manuel de Sousa de Alvim, his son, executor and first administrator, to be succeded by his eldest male son. In case of extinction of the lineage, the administration would pass to the monastery of São Martinho de Tibães.
He establishes another entail and chapel, entailing a farm, located in Seiça, on the outskirts of Ourém. He appoints Simão de Sousa de Alvim, his son, first administrator. The charges were to be celebrated in the church of Seiça. The same clauses had to be fulfilled for the institution of the entail of the Quinta de Pedrógão.
He establishes another entail and chapel, entailing grain income, in the amount of 100.000 réis, coming from Alfeizerão. He appoints Pedro de Melo de Sousa, his son, first administrator. The charges were to be celebrated in the church of Alfeizerão. The same clauses had to be fulfilled for the institution of the entail of the Quinta de Pedrógão.
He establishes another chapel, entailing a farm, located in Vila Verde, in the municipality of Vila Chã, on the outskirts of Braga. He appoints Henrique de Sousa de Alvim, his son, first administrator. The charges were to be celebrated in the church of São Paio of Vila Verde. The same clauses had to be fulfilled for the institution of the entail of the Quinta de Pedrógão.

Will chart made by Bartolomeu Silveiros, in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in Portalegre. The institutor named Leonor Velez, his wife, as first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she would be succeeded by António Vaz, during his lifetime. After his death, he would be succeeded by Francisco, his son, and from there on the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir.

Will chart of Catarina de Sequeira, founding an entail and appointing Jerónimo Rangel Homem, her brother, as her successor.

Will chart by which Cristóvão Ferreira Lobo and his wife D. Joana Henriques incorporated some assets to the entail founded by Heitor Henriques Sacoto and Joana Henriques and designated Diogo Ferreira Lobo to be its administrator. This entail should be succeeded by his eldest son.

Will chart by which Catarina de Sena Pereira expresses her wish to be buried in the monastery of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa where her daughter, Antónia de Sena Pereira, is buried. She establishes an entail with the third part of her assets, taken from houses near the church Nossa Senhora da Vitória, in Lisboa, with the obligation of an annual mass in that convent. She designates her daughter, Mariana Marques, as first administrator. Her eldest male son was to succeed her. In case of extinction of the lineage, the administration passed to the oldest servant of the last administrator.

Will chart of Pedro Dias Botelho, ordering his grave in the church of the monastery of Nossa Senhora de Cárquere. He established an entail with the third part of his assets and with those he had inherited of Apolónia Dias, his deceased wife, appointing Manuel Botelho, his son, executor, universal heir and administrator. The charges were to be celebrated in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, which the testator had made.

Will chart of Álvaro Saraiva da Gama, ordering his grave in the convent of São Francisco of Caria. He had a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição, with a chaplain, where he leaves certain charges, such as in the Franciscan convents of Caria, Vilares and São João da Pesqueira and in the churches of São Pelágio of Vila da Rua and Espírito Santo of Carregal. He leaves three properties to fulfill the charges in the convents and churches and entails the others in a chapel, with head in Quinta do Ribeiro and in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, located on that farm. He appoints Francisco Pereira de Almeida, his nephew, executor, heir and administrator.

Will chart of Pedro de Mendonça Furtado founding an entail with his available portion, composed of his houses in Alhos Vedros, and appointing Tristão de Mendonça, his son, as its heir. He orders two weekly masses over his tomb in Alhos Vedros. He also mentions his father's entail, founded in his will, composed of properties in Lavradio. Followed by an approval deed dated 1618-07-28 and an opening deed dated 1618-10-18.

Will chart made by Bernardo da Fonseca de Castelo Branco, in which he confirms the clauses and conditions of the previous will chart, made with Isabel Zuzarte, his wife, now deceased. He also clarifies some aspects of succession.

Will chart by which António de Torres Manso and his wife Beatriz Barata, administrators of the chapel established by Baltasar Manso, their uncle, in Oleiros, establish another chapel to annex to it, with the obligation of 60 annual masses in the convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of Castelo de Vide. They name their son, António de Torres Manso, as first administrator, and his descendants afterwards. They also name him administrator of the chapel founded by Afonso Álvares, in the mother church of Álvaro, which was administered by Beatriz Barata. They designate their daughter, Maria Temudo, as the administrator of the chapel established by Maria Barata, in Oleiros, which they both administered, and annex properties to it.

Will made by António Zuzarte de Sousa, in which he establishes an entail with the fourth parts left by his parents in their wills, with his own part and the part of his sister, Beatriz de Velez. The entail will have an obligation of two annual masses in the convent of São Francisco of Portalegre. He designates Manuel, his son, as first administrator, to be succeded by his descendants.

Will chart of Tristão Vaz da Veiga, of the Conselho do Rei, son de Manuel Cabral da Veiga, and Geral das Causas da Guerra na ilha da Madeira. He establishes an entail with his properties in Lisboa and Graciosa, Açores, and appoints his eldest son, Jerónimo da Veiga, as his universal heir and administrator of the entail. He establishes an obligation of a daily mass and one annual mass in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his successors can build a tomb for themselves, with 20 000 reis of alms. If Jerónimo da Veiga doesn't have children, the entail shall go to his brother, Luís da Veiga, if he doesn't become a cleric, or to the lineage of Tristão Vaz da Veiga's brother, Lourenço da Veiga.

Will chart made by Inácio do Rego de Andrade in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of a mass celebrated every year in Alter do Chão. He appointed D. Madalena to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by Belchior do Rego de Andrade.

Will chart made by padre António Gonçalves Vila in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of twenty masses celebrated every year in the mother church of Alter do Chão. The institutor appointed Domingos Gonçalves Vila to be the first administrator during lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest son.
