Will (extract) by which Margarida de Landim, widow of Pedro Barriga, entails her houses in Fangas da Farinha, Lisboa, with an obligation of two annual masses in the chapel of Chagas of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa. She bequeaths them to her eldest son, João Alves Barriga, and to his sucessors. If, at the time of her death, João has already died or has no male descendants, the entail shall pass to his younger brother, Gonçalo Vaz Barriga.
Followed by a note explaining that the houses entailed to this chapel were demolished by order of the king and replaced by a farmstead in Loures, according to a consignation letter and sentence from 1748.

Will (extract) by which D. Leonor de Meneses established a chapel in the convent of S. Agostinho of Santarém, entailing to it all her properties in Santarém as well as her farmstead ("quinta do Paraíso") and determining that its revenues should support the celebration of 5 daily perpetual masses and sustain 5 poor people every year. She designated her nephew, D. Pedro, son of the Condessa de Vila Real, D. Beatriz de Meneses, to administrate it, obligating him to use her father's family name and coat of arms. During his minority, the entail would be administrated by his mother.
D. Leonor de Meneses ordered the executors of her will to build two graves in that convent where her remains and those of her father, D. Pedro de Meneses, Conde de Viana, would be deposited. She also asked them to deliver to the heirs of her sister, D. Isabel, assets that were granted to her by the Regent, D. Pedro. If he did not authorize that, the executors had to wait for 2 years and then institute a chapel with those properties. It would be administrated by D. Afonso, D. Isabel and D. Fernando's son, who would have to support the celebration of 5 daily perpetual masses in that convent and provide for 5 poor people.

He charges his heirs of choosing, contracting with the religious and furnishing the chapel, leaving 2000 cruzados for it, and he gives details about its ornamentation. He leaves 3000 cruzados and orders the purchase of public debt instrument to ensure the fulfilment of a set of pious charges in his chapel, appointing his brother António Machado as administrator.

Will (extract) by Estêvão de Brito Freire in which he ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of an entail composed of several assets in Lisboa, Beja and Salvador da Baía, with an obligation of a daily mass celebrated on his Chapel of S. Estêvão, located in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus, in Lisboa, where his body should be buried. He named his son Gaspar de Brito Freire as first administrator of the entail and chapel, and after his death the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. The administrator should keep a lamp permanently lit on the chapel, use the surname "Brito Freire" and the family coat of arms or lose the administration. Clerics and anyone who married a person of jewish or moorish ascendency should immediately lose the administrators, as well as anyone who committed lese-majeste crimes.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Almeida de Vasconcelos orders, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel in the Igreja da Misericórdia de Lisboa, dedicated to Espírito Santo, entailing to it a sugar-mill, named Laranjeiras, and two farmsteads, named Barra Funda and Boa Vista, in the island of São Tomé, and the donatary captaincy and Alcaidaria-Mor of the island of Ano Bom, with cotton farms and more than 250 african slaves. He appoints his cousin D. Maria de Almeida to be the first administrator, but only if his wife D. Simoa, had no children of his own. He orders that 20 000 cruzados should be given to the Misericórdia de Lisboa in order to pay for the ransom of portuguese captives in Africa.

Will (extract) of Isabel Teixeira stating that she and her husband Álvaro da Mata Leitão had established a chapel, dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Graça, in the church of São Bento de Xabregas, through the conclusion of a contract with its priests. Since Álvaro da Mata Leitão empowered her in his will to manage their chapel and to appoint its administrator, she included two farms in the chapel, located in Palhavã, and the remainder of a public debt instrument in Casa da Índia, for the fulfillment of pious charges, to be administrated by Brás Coelho, her nephew, with the power to appoint the next administrator, among the members of the generations of Isabel Teixeira and her father Diogo de Palma.

He ordered his successors to use part of its income to support, each year, the marriage of an orphan girl, before which a mass should be celebrated for his soul. He appoints his eldest son, Francisco de Melo, as the entail's first administrator. He chooses to be buried in the grave he had in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, where the mortal remains of his descendants should thenceforth be interred.
The entail's succession would be conditioned by the same clauses that his father and grandfather had formulated when they had established their entails.

Will (extract) by which Ambrósio Fernandes Godinho entails his houses and two engines of sugar in the island of S. Tomé and designates his cousin, D. Simoa Godinho, as his executor and administrator of his entail and chapel. He requests that she builds him a chapel of the evocation of Santo Ambrósio in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade, where he wishes to be buried, with an obligation of a daily mass for his soul and three weekly masses for the soul of his mother, who had requested them in her will.

She bequeaths him her estates, orchards and farmsteads in Palmela, her houses in Setúbal and Lisboa and a saltern in Alcácer do Sal, as an entail, with the obligation of half an annual of masses for her soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus of Lisboa. If her nephew doesn't have any heirs, the entail shall pass to his brother, Gabriel de França Rolim, and his descendants, or to D. Ana de Meneses, wife of Martinho Ferreira da Câmara and niece of D. Maria de Tovar. If their lineages are extinguished, the entail shall pass to the Casa da Misericórdia of Alcácer do Sal.

Will (extract) by which Miguel Frade bequeaths the third part of his assets, including a rent (foro) of wheat and quinces given by the usufructuary of mills located on Sesimbra, to his daughter, Maria Carvalho, determining that her and her descendants must celebrate 3 annual masses for his soul in the church of S. João da Praça of Lisboa, where his body shall be buried. After his daughter's death, the entail should be inherited by her eldest son. The entailed rent could never be sold or exchanged for other property.

Will (extract) by which Marcos de Almeida established an entail, designating his sister D. Antónia de Almeida, wife of Rui Gonçalves Maracote, to be its first administrator. The institutor ordered the purchase of a chapel, the payment of 30 000 réis to a chaplain and the celebration of masses for his soul in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Anunciada. The institutor also left some legacies for the remission of captives to the Misericórdia of Lisboa. This entail should be succeed by the eldest son or, in his absence, by the closest kin and its properties are composed of houses in Lisboa, and a "cardal" and a farm located in Azambujal.

Will (extract) of António Jorge da Guerra, in which he declares that all his possessions should be entailed in a "morgado", in connection with a chapel that had previously been built in the monastery of São Francisco de Guimarães, where a retable of the Encarnation would be placed and where the founder would be buried in a tomb with the Guerra coat of arms, as he had in his signet ring. The first administrator of the entail would be his sister Catarina da Guerra, followed by his son António Machado da Guerra. All administrators were obliged to use the name Guerra and the coat of arms of the family. First-born sons took precedence, and clerics were excluded from the administration.

He entails assets, to fulfill the charges, appointing Manuel Fernandes, his brother, as administrator, and with his income he must have his son, Manuel, nephew of the institutor, ordained. The entail shall pass to the firstborn sons, but if any descendant is a cleric, he will have priority in the administration. The administrator could also appoint the successor, in which case that clause would be respected.

Among the entailed heritage is the Quinta de Picoas. He appoints Jerónima Dias and Luísa Dias, his sisters, heiresses and first administrators.

They want a chapel to be built, dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição or to the Pranto e Descimento da Cruz, in the church of Maceira, on the outskirts of Leiria. They entail assets, located on the outskirts of Viseu, for the construction of the chapel, purchase of ornaments and celebration of charges. The one member surviving of the couple had to appoint whoever they wanted to administer the chapel. It contains a list of the ornaments and implements with which they intended to endow the chapel.

Will chart of Afonso da Cunha, capitão-mor de Alvor. He determined that his body had to be buried in the grave of Álvaro de Ataíde, since his chapel was being built at that moment in Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Alvor. His wife, Guiomar Simões, would be responsible for choosing the patron saint of the chapel, where the testator's remains would be deposited and a weekly perpetual mass would be celebrated for his soul. The future administrators of that chapel would be obligated to maintain it and to preserve its ornaments.
The institutor established another chapel, entailing to it all the assets he had inherited from Aldonça de Arvelos, his cousin, namely two watermills in Lagos, houses on Rua de Pedro Borges, in that city, and unspecified rents (foros). The revenues of those properties would support the celebration of a perpetual mass every friday wherever his body would be buried. He designated his wife to administrate it, asking her to entail the houses in which they lived in Alvor to the chapel. She would be succeeded by her nephew, Francisco de Freitas, who would transmit it to his eldest son.
Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1592-07-09, a codicil from 1592-07-17 and the approval deed of the codicil, issued on 1592-07-17.

Will chart of Manuel da Cruz, ordering his grave in the hermitage of Santo Amaro, in Cortiça. He nominates Joana da Paz, his wife and executor, as the first administrator of the chapel that he instituted in the brotherhood of Santo Amaro, in that hermitage. After her death, the chapel was to be administered by his nephews, sons of Maria Simões, his sister, leaving her wife to choose the one she considered best to fulfill the charges. The following administrators would be appointed by the previous. In case of non-compliance of the charges, the administration should pass to the brotherhood of Santo Amaro.

To endow it, he orders the sale of all his assets and, once the legacies are fulfilled, the purchase of real estate to entail to the chapel. He appoints João Rodrigues de Macedo, his brother, and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Santa Comba Dão, executors and administrators.

The testator also orders the celebration of a daily mass in the mostery where he will be buried, choosing the monastery of S. Francisco of Lisbon, in his father's chapel.

He institutes a chapel in the church of Misericórdia of Alvito, entailing assets to fulfill the charges. He appoints Tomás, son of Maria Magro, his niece, as administrator, if he were a clergyman. The administrators were supposed to be clerics, descendants of Maria Magro, excluding, however, Damião Dias Magro and Pedro de Lemos. If the descendants were extinguished, the administration would fall to the deão of the cathedral of Évora.

The first one was composed of the farmsteads of Santa Catarina and Pontafigo, in the island of São Tomé, and was to be administered by his brother, Mateus de Alva, who should be succeeded by his son, Francisco. The second one had an obligation of annual masses in the convent of Capuchos, in Castelo de Vide, and was to be administered by Roque Nunes Barradas, the institutor's brother-in-law, who should be succeeded by his wife, Violante Brandão, sister of the institutor, and by their eldest son. The third one would also have an obligation of masses in Castelo de Vide and would be administered by Violante Brandão, and afterwards by one of her sons or daughter, who would be chosen by appointment.

Will chart by which D. Catarina da Rocha, Baltasar da Silva's wife, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, entailing part of her patrimony. She asks the executors of her will to buy the chapel of S. Jorge of that convent, where she and her husband should be buried. The institutor appoints the latter to be the entail's first administrator, obligating him to celebrate annual masses for her soul, to spend part of its annual revenues sustaining the ransom of captives and in the marriage of orphan girls. Baltasar da Silva should be succeeded by Diogo Lopes da Rocha, her brother. After his death, the entail would be administrated by the prior of that convent.
Catarina da Rocha also declares that if the executors choose not to establish a chapel in that convent, they could use part of her assets to found a college dedicated to the study of arts and theology. There, it would be instituted a chapel, where her remains would rest and masses should be celebrated for her soul. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1615-02-28.

Will chart by which António da Rocha wanted to be buried in the Church of Santa Maria Madalena of Turcifal. He was the administrator of the assets left by his brother Estêvão da Rocha de Barros and was due to order the celebration of masses on the altar of São Sebastião in that church. He designated João da Fonseca, son of Jorge Tagarro, to be the administrator of the chapel, on the condition that he should married with Margarida Pereira da Rocha, daughter of Pedro da Rocha. Their children should succeed in the administration.

Will chart of Manuel Rodrigues, ordering his grave in the mother church of Torrão, where he established a chapel in which his parents and grandparents were buried. He orders the sale of his assets to fulfill legacies and entails assets to fulfill the chapel's charges, specifying the way he wanted it ornamented. He appoints João Cardim, his nephew, as the first administrator, having to be ordained a priest so that he could also be a chaplain, being there administered by Lourenço Cardim, brother of the founder and his executor. The next administrator must be his mother's closest relative who was a clergyman. If there was no cleric in the family, the parish priest, the judge and the provedor of Misericórdia should choose a priest who would administer it.

Will chart by which D. Filipa de Sequeira, wife of André de Sousa Chichorro, expresses her wish to be buried in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade, where her father, João Mendes Botelho, is buried. She appoints her husband as her heir and executor, with the obligation of establishing weekly and annual masses for her soul in her burial place, to which he should entail a public debt instrument in the Alfândega of Lisboa. If his husband frees the chancel of the convent of S. Francisco de Alenquer, where he has a family tomb, her bones can be transferred to that place. She bequeaths all her properties, including houses in Lisboa, her quinta da Granja, casais in Odivelas and another public debt instrument, to her husband, as an entail. After his death, they shall pass to her nephew, Luís Mendes Barreto, who must marry D. Leonor de Sá, daughter of André de Sousa Chichorro. If this marriage doesn't take place, the entail shall be inherited by D. Maria, sister of Luís Mendes Barreto, who must marry Jerónimo de Sousa, eldest son of André de Sousa Chichorro. It shall then pass to their descendants.
D. Filipa de Sequeira also revokes her part in the will of her first husband, Francisco da Costa, except the clause by which she gives 10 000 cruzados to her nephew, who is in India, if he marries Francisco da Costa's niece. This money shall be entailed to Francisco da Costa's property, but only if the marriage takes place.
Followed by declaration, dated 1605-06-04, clarifying other donations by the institutor, approval deed and opening deed of the will, dated 1605-06-12.

He entails several real estate to fulfill the charges and appoints Maria Botelho, his wife and executor, to administer it until Francisco, his son, turns 25. The administration was then to follow by the eldest son.

Will chart by which Luís de Figueiroa Castelo Branco establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa with the third part of his assets and part of the patrimony of both his first and second wives, Joana Lopes and Madalena Leitão, including houses in Lisboa. Luís appoints his son, Manuel de Figueiroa, to be its first administrator, obligating him to celebrate masses for his soul and those of his next of kin. He asks his daughter, D. Catarina, and his son to build two graves in that chapel. The first one should receive the remains of the testator and Madalena's. The second was destined to receive the bones of Joana Lopes and her ancestors. Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1599-01-09.

He instituted the pious obligation of celebrating masses in the church of the aforementioned convent or, if that was not possible, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He appointed his brother, Brás Coelho, as the entail's first administrador. He chose to be buried in the church of the convent of S. Dinis.

Domingos of Lisboa with the purpose of supporting the celebration of daily masses for her soul. She orders that this entail should be henceforth attached to the Afonso Mexia's entail and administrated by its administrator. The testator declares that her remains should be buried inside the chapel her father, Afonso Mexia, established in that convent. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1597-07-16.

Will made by João da Grã and his wife Leonor Fernandes in which they ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of masses celebrated every year in the hermitage of Nossa Senhora do Egito, in Vila Franca do Campo. They appointed Jordoa Gonçalves to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by Leonor and from there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir.

Joana de Lis, António de Sousa Abreu's wife, bequeaths a saltern ("marinha da casa") in Setúbal to Jorge Neto Porras, her nephew, obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of annual masses for her mother's soul in the church of the convent of S. João of Setúbal, where the institutor's remains should be buried.
She also establishes another entail with a saltern ("marinha baja") in the same city, appointing Jorge de Moura, her nephew, to be its first administrator. He is obligated to change his family name and to marry according to the instructions dictated by his aunt.
The testator orders the executors of her will to establish a contract with that convent in order to assure the fulfilment of pious obligations for her soul, which would be sustained with the revenues of a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1613-06-17.

Will by which Gaspar Gil Severim expresses his wish to be buried in the chapterhouse of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa and establishes two entails, which he bequeaths to his two sons, Francisco de Faria Severim, and Manuel de Faria Severim.
He gives to his son Francisco, among other properties, the farm and houses in Lisboa which he had received through a dowry deed from Catarina Mateus Galvão, aunt of his first wife, Antónia de Faria, and which were entailed to an obligation of masses, which should pass to his eldest son.
If the lineage of any of his sons is extinguished, their respective entail shall be inherited by the other or by their successors.

Will by which Diogo Luís de Oliveira, husband of D. Leonor de Távora, expresses his wish to be buried in the monastery of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos da Arrábida, of which his nephew, Luís Francisco de Oliveira, morgado de Oliveira, is the patron, with the obligation of a daily mass for his soul. He entails all of his properties, which include public debt instruments, houses in Belém, and the revenue he intends to gain from debts owed to him, and appoints his wife as his universal heir. After her death, the entail shall pass to the padre António Luís de Oliveira, natural son of Diogo Luís de Oliveira and afterwards to Luís Francisco de Oliveira and his successors. This entail shall always be in the hands of the administrators of the entail of Oliveira. If their lineage is extinguished, the entail shall pass to the lineage of Diogo's niece, D. Beatriz. If her lineage is also extinguished, it shall pass to a second son of the house of Mogadouro. If all of these lineages are extinguished it shall be given to the Misericórdia of Lisboa.

Will by which Teresa Eanes da Fonseca, wife of Fernão Lopes Lobo, Cavaleiro, bequeathed all her remaining properties to her nephew, Gonçalo Rodrigues da Fonseca, establishing a chapel with those assets and obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of 3 weekly masses for her soul in perpetuity in the chapel of Santo Antão of the cathedral of Évora. After the first administrator's death, the entail would be transmitted to his eldest son. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1427-05-09.

She entails a public debt instrument and properties in Elvas, Arraiolos and Évora to an obligation of two daily masses in that chapel, and of keeping nine merceeiras. She also orders masses to be prayed in the churches of S. Francisco de Évora and of S. Francisco de Elvas, for the souls of her parents and sister. She appoints Mestre Afonso Guerreiro and Francisco de Freitas as administrators of her chapel, with the faculty of appointing the next administrator.

Henriques, Antónia (d.1580)

Will of Diogo Rodrigues Trombeta and Margarida Fernandes, his wife. The first to die must be buried in the churchyard of the church of Santa Maria de Sousel and, after the second, both must be buried in the chapel they establish in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Orada. They do not know if the chapels can be established in chapels, they determine that, if not, they should be established in the mother church of Sousel.
They also ordered the reconstruction of the ruined chapel of the Apostle São João, located on the outskirts of Sousel.
Pedro Álvares Batalhos is appointed as chaplain of the chapel they establish, to whom a cleric, or relative named Batalhos, should succeed.
They name Estevão Rodrigues, brother and brother-in-law of the institutors, executor and administrator of the chapel, and order their eldest son to succeed him. If Margarida Fernandes died first, her husband would be her executor and the first administrator, and only after his death Estevão Rodrigues.
It comes from a certificate, issued in 1622, in the possession of Barnabé Maldonado, escrivão da Provedoria de Estremoz.

Will by which Manuel Frade de Almada, resident in the farm of Lamarosa, prior of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, in Tentúgal, wanted to be buried in the main chapel of this church. He left all his immovable goods, namely a farm with its belongings, olive groves, vineyards, houses and lands, to his nephew Manuel Mendes Mexia. He was due to order the celebration of a daily masse for his and his parents' soul in the same church, and to pay for chaplain 20 000 réis. After his nephew's death, it should succeed his eldest son Francisco Mexia or other kin from the Mexias' succession line. The remaining part of his assets should be enjoyed by his nephew and nieces Manuel Mendes Mexia, D. Leonor Mexia, D. Leonor and D. Catarina. He also mentioned that he inherited the chapel of his mother Maria Mexia and his uncle Afonso de Almada Frade located in Olivença, and he nominated Fernando Mexia de Figueiredo to succeed in this entail. Followed by an approval deed dated 1680-11-25 and an opening deed 1681-02-20.

Will by which D. Cristóvão de Moura Côrte-Real and his wife, D. Margarida de Côrte-Real, marqueses de Castelo Rodrigo, express their will to be buried in the chapel of the Côrte-Reais, in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, which belongs to the entail administered by D. Margarida, if, by the time of their deaths, they haven't appointed another place. They establish a daily mass for their souls in that chapel, entailing to it the casal do Garajau, which is already entailed to another perpetual daily mass in the same chapel, and ask that Cristóvão's parents, who are buried in the monastery of Carmo and in the convent of S. Francisco, be transfered to the same chapel.
They then ask the king to confirm the entail of the Moura, which they establish. This entail shall be inherited by their eldest son, and his successors thereafter, together with the entail of the Côrte-Reais, unless the lineage of D. Cristóvão and D. Margarida is extinguished. In that case, the two entails shall be separated. If the Moura entail is separated from the entail of the Côrte-Reais, the heirs of the Côrte-Reais shall have the houses in Lisboa which belong to the Moura entail, however they'll have to pay their revenue to the successors of the Moura line. The line of the Côrte-Reais shall also keep the capitania da Praia, in the island of Terceira, which D. Cristóvão had received from the king.

Domingos of Lisboa, entailing to it her farmstead (quinta), the Moinho do Botelho, a public debt instrument of 9 600 réis in Almoxarifado de Santarém, and a public debt instrument of 8 000 réis in Casa da Mercearia de Lisboa. She appoints her cousin, Diogo de Melo de Castelo Branco, to be the first administrator of her entail, ordering him to support the celebration of a daily mass for her soul. She chooses to be buried in the church of the referred convent, in her grandfather's chapel, Amador Vaz de Sampaio. She asks the executors of her will to restore that chapel and to place in it an altarpiece with the image of the holy spirit. Her parents' mortal remains, which lied in the convent of S. Francisco of Xabregas, should be transferred and interred alongside those of her daughter. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1514-07-08 and an opening deed issued on 1514-07-19.

They appoint their son, Diogo Botelho as their heir and administrator of the chapel and entail, and his successors, afterwards. They also appoint him administrator of the chapels established by Isabel de Proença, [Beatriz de Castanheda's mother], in the church of S. Nicolau de Lisboa, and by Rui de Castanheda [Beatriz de Castanheda's father].

Will by which Luís Gomes da Mata established an entail, appointing his eldest son Pedro António da Mata as its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. The administrator and his brother António Gomes da Mata are obligated to found an entail and to establish its succession conditions. This entail is composed of houses located in Lisboa, the office of Correio-Mor and other assets belonging to their third part of the inheritance. Their successors are obligated to add their third part of the inheritance (terça) to this entail.

Will made by João Rodrigues de Sá, Cavaleiro do Porto, before embarking in the King's fleet. He established a chapel in the convent of S. Francisco of Porto, where there should be celebrated masses, every year, for his soul. If the testator died outside the kingdom, the executors of his will would have to place his coat of arms in one of the chapel's arches. He also referred that the chapel had to be equipped with a cross, a chalice, a golden bowl and other ornaments. He asked his son, Fernando de Sá, not to take the Alcaidaria-mor do Porto from João Velho, his criado. The institutor determined that his soul should be his universal heir. Will by which João Rodrigues Novais and his wife Maria de Almeida ordered the construction of a convent and a chapel's foundation. If would not be possible to build it, it should be contracted with other convent the foundation of a chapel. They wanted to be buried in this chapel, close to the altar and, because they were childless, they designated their niece D. Maria Coutinho, married to Diogo Gomes de Lemos to have the right of patronage. This right should be transmitted to her eldest son or daughter and always be in this family. If their niece died childless, it should succeed the heirs of his brother Aires Teixeira Pinto. The institutors left some legacies to the poor, captives, orphans and to some members of their family, using a public debt instrument of 200 000 réis in Misericórdia de Lisboa and other amounts of money.

Violante de Araújo, had agreed to establish an entail with their third parts, composed of several assets in Lisboa, Beja and Salvador da Baía. This entail should have the obligation of a daily mass celebrated in their chapel of Santo Estêvão, located in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora de Jesus, in Lisboa, where they wished to be buried. He names his eldest son, Gaspar de Brito Freire, as first administrator of the entail and chapel, and his descendants, afterwards. Among his properties he lists the estate of Corte da Negra, in Beja, which his parents had bequeathed him as a chapel, and which he also passed to his son.
D. Violante de Araújo is present at the writing of this will and signs it, agreeing with the clauses concerning the institution of their entail and chapel, and with the annexation of her third part. Estêvão de Brito Freire allows her to revoke this confirmation if she wills it, under condition that his part should be kept.

Will of mestre João das Leis, Lourenço Pires' son, founding an entail with his available portion composed of his properties and appointing as its administrator his second male son and, after him, his firstborn and legitimate male son, imposing the pious obligation of some masses in the church of S. Lourenço of Lisboa. The testator also appoints Gomes, his son, as the successor of Afonso Pires in the administration of the chapel of Santa Catarina, in the church of S. Lourenço of Lisboa, founded by Constança Eanes Palhavã. Besides, João das Leis orders the payment of some bequests and debts to the chapels of mestre Pedro and D. Afonso Dinis, bishop, to buy properties, and appoints as attorney-in-fact (procurador) of the latter chapel the same attorney-in-fact of the chapel of mestre Pedro, administrating its books and assets.

Will by which Gaspar Gil Severim expresses his wish to be buried in the chapterhouse of the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa and establishes two entails, which he bequeaths to his two sons, Francisco de Faria Severim, and Manuel de Faria Severim.
He gives to his son Francisco, among other properties, the houses in Lisboa which he had inherited from his parents, António Gil Severim and Catarina Lopes Morim. These houses had an obligation of thirty masses for the soul of António Gil Severim and a divine office and five masses for the soul of Catarina Lopes.
If the lineage of any of his sons is extinguished, their respective entail shall be inherited by the other or by their successors.

Will by which D. Joana de Lis, António de Sousa Abreu's wife, establishes an entail with a saltern ("marinha baja") in Setúbal, appointing Jorge de Moura, her nephew, to be its first administrator. He is obligated to change his family name and to marry according to the instructions dictated by his aunt.
She also bequeaths a saltern ("marinha da casa") in that city to Jorge Neto Porras, her nephew, obligating him and his successors to support the celebration of annual masses for her mother's soul in the church of the convent of S. João of Setúbal, where the institutor's remains should be buried.
The testator orders the executors of her will to establish a contract with that convent in order to assure the fulfilment of pious obligations for her soul, which would be sustained with the revenues of a public debt instrument of 30 000 réis. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1613-06-17.

Will made by Jorge Botelho in which he ordered the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of a mass celebrated every week in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, in the church of São Martinho of Pombal. He appointed António Botelho to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his eldest male son. During António Botelho's minority, the entail would be administered by his mother Isabel Machado.

She orders them to buy a public debt instrument of 20 000 réis, using its revenues to support the celebration of a daily mass for her soul and the soul of her late husband in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa. The testator declares that her body must be buried near the chapel of S. José of that convent. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1643-11-26 and an opening deed issued on 1645-03-14.

Will by which Pedro de Alcáçova Carneiro, conde de Idanha, do Conselho de Estado do Rei and vedor da sua Fazenda, widower of D. Catarina de Sousa, establishes an entail with his houses and leases in Lisboa. He bequeaths it to his youngest son, António de Alcáçova Carneiro, since his other sons died in the battle of Alcácer Quibir. He also donates two public debt instruments of 500 000 réis to his grandson, Pedro de Alcáçova de Vasconcelos, which shall be annexed to the entail of the House of Figueiró, of which he is heir through his mother, Joana de Vasconcelos, with the obligation of his successors keeping the Alcáçova surname.

Will by which D. Martinho de Castelo Branco Valente, Senhor de Vila Nova de Portimão, ordered the renovation of his chapel in the church of S.
