DOCUMENTO/DATA DE INSTITUIÇÃO: testamento aprovado em 1695-08-01, Ponta do Sol; aberto em 1697-11-11 (cf. registo de óbito no Lv.º 85 do AHDF, f. 71 v.º-72 v.º, Mf. 663 do ABM).
ENCARGOS (ANUAIS): três missas de Natal e duas missas, na primeira e na última sexta feira do mês de março, celebradas na igreja matriz da Ponta do Sol.
BENS VINCULADOS: institui vínculo de morgado no que ficar líquido de todos os seus bens. Porém, se as sobrinhas D. Hilária ou D. Felícia, filhas de seu irmão Martim da Silva, quisessem ser religiosas, em tal caso retirar-se-ia destes bens de morgado o necessário para o respetivo dote.
Uma petição do padre Salvador José de Mesquita (f. 45), feita em 1762, refere que possui os bens desta capela por arrendamento feito por D. Ana Rosa Quitéria, viúva do capitão Inácio Spranger da Câmara.
SUCESSÃO: nomeia o irmão padre António da Silva Barreto, podendo este nomear quem quisesse, conquanto fosse da linha de sucessão de seus pais, preferencialmente nos filhos varões primogénitos.

Will through which Margarida Eanes, Gonçalo Pires' widow, bequeaths the third part of her assets, including houses in Lisboa, to Inês Pires, her sister-in-law, instituting the pious obligation of celebrating annual masses for her soul and that of her husband in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. Margarida mentions that her husband, before his death, had left those houses to her, asking her to support pious charges for his soul. She declares that her body should be interred inside the grave where lie their grandparents, located next to the chapel of Jesus of that church. Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1546-05-28, and an opening deed, issued on 1546-06-01.

He appoints Branca de Castro to be its first administrator, who should be succeeded by his brother, António Dias Duarte. He obligates the entail's administrators to support the celebration of annual masses in his chapel; to buy a property whose revenues should be employed in buying wax for the altar of Jesus of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa; to provide olive oil to maintain alight a lamp in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Paz of the Hospital de Todos-os-Santos. He declares that his remains should be buried inside his chapel. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1648-01-21.

Will by which Beatriz Vicente establishes that her heirs should use her patrimony to support each year two poor people, giving them 2 alqueires of cereal, shoes and, every two years, clothes. She appoints Bento Martins, her husband, and João Domingues, her brother-in-law, to be the executors of her will and to fulfil that obligation. After both of them die, the entail should be inherited by the closest relative of the institutor. The testator declares that her body should be buried in the church of S. João Batista of Lumiar.

Will by which Isabel de Serpa, Nuno Freire's widow, and her daughter, Margarida de Andrade, Gregório Fernandes' widow, bequeath the third part of their assets to Isabel de Andrade, granddaughter and daughter of the testators, with the obligation of celebrating annual masses for the institutors' souls in the church of S. Cristóvão, where their remains should be buried next to the body of Isabel de Serpa's father. After the first administrator's death, the entail would be transmitted to her descendants. Will by which Manuel Garcia de Bívar declared that he contracted with the nuns of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa, to establish an entail, appointing his eldest son Duarte Garcia de Bívar to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses and to light a candle in this church. This entail is composed of houses and an olive grove in Lisboa, and a public debt instrument of 55 187 reis in Almoxarifado da Mesa da Casa da Fruta de Lisboa. He also entailed all the silver pieces he possessed and established that the successors of his chapel should dispose of the third part of their third to fulfil the obligations.

Will by which António de Paiva Giralte established an entail, designating his brother Luís de Paiva Giralte and his wife Dona Maria Guedes, and their sons António de Paiva Giralte e Bartolomeu de Queirós Guedes to be its first administrators. They were due to order the celebration of masses in the Chapel of Nascimento de Nosso Senhor Jesus do Claustro de São Domingos, in Lisboa. The institutor also mentioned that was son of António de Paiva and Dona Branca da Costa. This entail is composed of a public debt instrument of 14 500 réis in Casa do Pescado de Elvas and 18 000 réis in Casa do Pescado de Lisboa.

They designated Domingos Pires Canhão to be its administrator after the death of the last institutor, with the obligation to order the celebration of masses for their souls. He was also obligated to contract the eldest chaplain of their closest kin, and to give him his salary and houses to live. This entail is composed of houses located in Vagos. Followed by an approval deed dated 1668-04-17 and an opening deed dated 1668-04-23.

Will by which Inês Carneiro, widow of Francisco de Figueiroa, declared that she wanted to be buried in the Convent of São Francisco, where her husband and her son Cristóvão de Figueiroa were buried. She founded an entail, using some "casais" called "Gueifães", "Josim" and "Seara" located in the parish of Santa Ovaia, in Oliveira do Hospital. The institutor designated her daughter Ana Carneiro to be its first administrator and she was due to order the celebration of 30 masses in the Convent of São Francisco. She could also designate whomever she wanted from the Carneiro's family to succeed in this entail. Inês Carneiro declared that her husband Francisco de Figueiroa ordered in his last will the celebration of four masses in the Convent of São Francisco, using the "casal da Pedreira" and designating her wife to be its first administrator. She now wanted to designate her daughter to succeed in her husband's entail. Followed by an approval deed dated 1585-12-29.

Will by which Ana Carneiro, daughter of Francisco de Figueiroa and his wife Inês Carneiro, declared that she wanted to be buried in the Convent of São Francisco, where her parents were buried. She declared that her mother founded an entail using some "casais" located in the parish of Santa Ovaia, in Oliveira do Hospital, with the obligation to celebrate masses in the Convent of São Francisco. Her father also founded an entail in the same convent, with the obligation to order the celebration masses using the rents of the "casal da Pedreira", in the parish of Santa Olaia de Veiris. She designated her nephew João de Valadares and his wife Antónia Carneiro to succeed in her mother and father's entail. She also declared that she wanted to order the celebration of more masses using some houses in Porto, and asked her nephew to give some wax to the convent. Followed by an approval deed dated 1592-09-17 and a codicil dated 1595-01-11.

Will by which Luís da Silveira ordered to build a chapel in the Church of Góis, to be buried with his wife D. Beatriz. If the chapel would not be finish by his death, he wanted his heir Diogo da Silveira to finish it using the his rents. He mentioned the existence in this church of another chapel of his great-great-grandfather Gomes Martins de Lemos. He declared that he was obligated to incorporate the fourth part of his third into the "Morgado de Évora" and the chapel of Salvador, in the Monastery of São Domingos. He wanted to incorporate into this entail some houses in Évora and Lisboa, the farm of Currelos and some assets near to the farm of Graciosa. Followed by an approval deed dated 1529-03-22.

Will by which D. Garcia de Meneses, membro do Conselho do Rei, demanded that his body should be buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Espinheiro of Évora, in the grave of his father. He asked his heir to build a chapel in his honour in that convent, where the mortal remains of his parents and grandparents would be buried and one or two perpetual daily masses would be celebrated for his soul. He appointed his wife, D. Maria de Castro, to execute his will, leaving her the third part of his assets. The testator ordered her to buy a public debt instrument or a rent to be entailed to that chapel. If D. Duarte, his son, was alive at the time of his death, he would be the rightful heir of the third part of his father's assets. He also designated D. Duarte or any of his sons or daughters to administrate the entail established by D. Pedro de Meneses, his uncle ("morgadio da herdade da casa branca e das casas velhas").

Will by which Beatriz Soares, Diogo Fernandes' widow, appointed the officials of the brotherhood of Almas do Purgatório e Anjo S. Miguel to administrate the chapel she had established in the church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, to which she had entailed houses in Rua de Cata-que-farás, Lisboa.
The testator left 4 houses in that street to her cousin, Briolanja Godinho, Pedro Henriques' widow, and to her 3 daughters in order to help them getting married. If all of them died before marrying, all the properties would be transmitted to their mother. She bequeathed 2 houses in that street to Garcia Soares, her nephew; other houses to her niece, D. Maria; other houses to her nephew, Fernando Soares; a house in that street and an annual quantity of sugar ("100 arrobas") extracted from her sugarcane plantation in Ilha de S. Tomé to her cousin, Isabel Furtado; other houses to Gaspar Sineiros, her cousin; other houses to Leonor Álvares, her cousin, Licenciado Diogo Pinto's wife, and other houses to Elvira Rodrigues, Diogo Fernandes's wife.
She declared, at last, that every person to which she had left any assets were henceforth obligated to support the perpetual celebration of an annual sung mass in the church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, where her body would be buried alongside the remains of her son, João Álvares.

Will by which Constança Gonçalves, daughter of Gonçalo Martins, ordered to be buried in the Monastery of São Domingos de Elvas, in the chapel of São Bento, where her grandmother Constança Rodrigues was buried. She declared that she had left to her aunt Maior Eanes and her husband Martim Eanes the "herdade" of Além Caia during their lifetime, and that after their death this property should be incorporated into the chapel of São Bento, located in the Church of Santa Maria de Alcáçova, in Elvas. The institutor designated her uncle Gomes Eanes, escudeiro, and her cousin Guiomar Eanes to be its first administrators, with the obligation to have two chaplains to celebrate the masses. She also left some legacies to some relatives, servants, orphans and widows.

He was due to order the celebration of masses for her husband, parents and brother's soul, and to contract a chaplain. By his death, it should succeed his son Martim de Parada and his heirs or, in their absence, their closest kin.This entail is composed of half of a "casal" in Mouriscos, a "casal do Ervedeiro" in Alcaravela, a "tapada" with olive groves in Fonte Velha, vineyards, lands and olive groves in "Chão da Gracia", houses in Sardoal, a "casal da Gonça", on the outskirts of Sintra, and vineyards and lands in Bucelas. Followed by an approval deed dated 1677-11-03 and an opening deed dated 1678-03-20.

Will chart of Domingos Ferreira Souto and Cristina da Silva, his wife. They establish a chapel, entailing assets to fulfill charges. They appoint José Ferreira Souto, Custódio Ferreira and Gonçalo Ferreira Souto, executors and first administrators. After the death of the latter, the administration would pass to the Padre Provincial of the Companhia de Jesus.

Besides, the testator bequeaths some properties he received as payment of a debt of his brother-in-law, Rui Gil da Câmara, to the son-in-law and daughter of the latter, Gaspar Gonçalves Carvalhal and Filipa de Escobar, if her brother is already death at the time of the testator's death, with the pious obligation of an annual chapel of masses for the souls of his sister, Isidora Pereira, and brother-in-law, Rui Gil da Câmara.

She declared that she had duly endowed her chapel of Santíssimo Sacramento of the convent of S. Bento of Lisboa, where her body would be buried, providing enough money to support the celebration of the annual masses, its maintenance and illumination. She left many ornaments, textiles and even a relic to the chapel which could never be taken from it. She appointed her nephew, Manuel de Sousa, to administrate it, bequeathing him houses near the Mosteiro da Esperança, in Lisboa. The testator determined that 5 women (merceeiras) would be paid 20 000 réis each year to pray for her soul every day, inside her chapel. They would live in her houses and her bodies would be buried in that chapel.
D. Clemência bequeathed a property in Ilha Terceira ("pasto de Martim"), which was incorporated in an entail she administrated, to Francisco de Câmara Paim, who would succeeded her. She donated a large breviary with its golden lectern and all her books to the convent of Jesus of the village of Praia in Ilha Terceira, which had been erected by her grandparents. She freed her slave, Maria de Amorim/ Maria de Noronha, mulher parda, leaving her furniture, a public debt instrument of 31 000 réis and the revenues of some houses. After her death, the rent would be destined to support, each year, the marriage of an orphan girl. The testator declared that the wooden altarpieces were ready to be put in her chapel.

He established an entail, incorporating some houses, a "casal" and a "marinha" located in Lisboa, in order to fulfil the pious obligations in that church. This entail should be administrated by his nephew Pedro de Faria and, after his death, by his son or daughter. If he did not have children, the administration would be attached to the other entail he founded. In addition, he entailed different assets for the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Lisboa, that should be administrated by Violante Maria. The successors must be descendants of Bartolomeu Sanches or António Sanches, nephews of the institutor. If there were no legitimate children, the administration should be attached to the other entail he founded.

He declares that he had previously made an agreement with its prior and friars, by which he promised to give them a public debt instrument of 24 000 réis in exchange for the celebration of annual masses for his soul and that of his wife. Nevertheless, it was still necessary to make a contract with the convent, which he urges his heirs to do. He appoints his wife, Inês Lopes, as the entail's first administrator, bequeathing her part of his assets which should be incorporated in it. He obligates her and her descendants to give, each year, 4 000 réis to that convent in order to assure the chapel's maintenance; to check the state of its ornaments; to donate 10 000 réis to the convent of S. Domingos and S. Francisco of Lisboa, each Holy Thursday. The testator allows his wife to choose one of her nephews or nieces to be her successor, as long as he/she resides in Lisboa. He demands his remains to be buried inside his chapel.

If her niece died before the institutor, the entail's first administrator should be, instead, D. Luísa da Gama, her other niece. She chose to be buried in the grave where lied her late husband, which was by the chapel of Santa Catarina de Siena, in the church of the said convent. Maria de Vilhena, Simão da Silveira's widow, established a chapel of 3 daily perpetual masses, which would be celebrated in the main chapel of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Évora. She appointed Jerónimo de Carvalho, her uncle, and Sancho de Faria, her nephew, to administrate it, leaving a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis and a rent (foro) of wheat taken from properties in Moura, Beja and Évora to support the pious obligations. The administrators had to erect a chapel in that convent, where a family mausoleum would be built. All the properties she left to her uncle and a public debt instrument of 14 000 given to Madalena Mendes, her ama, would end up being passed to Sancho de Faria and entailed to the chapel. The latter would leave all the entailed assets to his eldest son.
She left a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis to the Misericórdia of Évora, obligating its brothers to provide for poor men and to give dowries to orphan girls every year.
The institutor established another entail with the properties that she inherited after her parents' death, which her brother, Pedro de Tovar, held from her. She appointed her nephew, Sancho de Tovar, to administrate it and declared that it should be transmitted to his descendants. The testator determined that her body had to be buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, inside the grave of her late husband. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1562-10-23.

The former left the third part of his assets, including vineyards and lands in Rossais to his wife, ordering her to fulfil various legacies. After the death of his wife, that estate should be delivered to his niece, Vitória do Rego, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 56 annual masses for his soul in the church of S. João Batista of Lumiar. If those assets were sold, the pious obligation had to go with them.
The testators left lands in Albogas to Maria Brás, Inês' sister, with the obligation of celebrating 2 masses, every year, for their souls in the church of Almargem do Bispo.
They also left a rent (foro) in a vineyard to João Gonçalves, their brother-in-law, and his wife, obligating them to celebrate an annual mass for their souls in an unidentified church. After their deaths, the entail would be inherited by their daughter, Maria.
Inês Brás determined that, after the death of her husband, all her assets had to be delivered to her nephew, Duarte, who would be responsible for celebrating, each year, 57 masses in the church of S. João Batista. If he died before receiving that inheritance, it would pass to Santos, another nephew of Inês Brás.
The testators declared that their bodies would be buried in the church of S. João Batista of Lumiar. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1569-08-30.

Her body should be buried, however, in the chapel of S. Vicente, in the church of S. Miguel Arcanjo of Vila Franca do Campo. She named her son Simão de Sousa Raposo, priest, to administrate the entail during his lifetime, and after his death the administration should be given to her nephew Francisco de Arruda, also priest. After the death of Francisco, the administration should be given to his brother João de Arruda, who would be succeeded by one of his children, appointed by him before his death.

For the first entail he entailed several properties in the islands of São Jorge, Pico and Faial, and a estate named Quinta de São Pedro, with a perpetual mass obligation of a weekly mass in the church of N. Sra. de Nazaré built on the same state, where a monument in his homenage should be built declaring that he participated on the battles of Arzila, Azamor, Afnul, Benegisna, in Persia and Almedina. For the second entail he entailed several properties in Terceira island, in Cabo da Praia, mount Brasil and a state in Lajes, also with a perpetual mass obligation with a weekly mass preached on the chapel of Jesus, that he was building in the main church of Angra. Both the entails had identical obligations, and António Pires should choose which one he would have, and João da Silva should have the other one. Both should be succeeded by their eldest sons, preferably male, and each administrator should annex 2/3 of his own reserved portion (terça) to the entail. The administrators should also use the surname "do Canto" or lose the administration. He also appoints Francisco da Silva, his illegitimate son, to succeed him on the administration of the chapel founded by Vasco Afonso, vicar of Machico, island of Madeira.

Úrsula Maria under the suspicion of being betrayed by her, which he discovered later it was not true. Finally, he declared that his wife made him a donation of all her father's assets, namely a farm and houses in Lisboa, with the obligation to celebrate masses, and that he wanted to incorporate into the chapel of his father-in-law a public debt instrument of 20 000 réis in Mesa da Imposição dos Vinhos.

Sebastião, in Ponta Delgada, where his body should be buried, next to his parent's grave. He named his wife Beatriz Soares to administrate the entail until his son Manuel Chaves comes of age. After the death of Manuel Chaves, the succession should always continue on the eldest male heir. However, if Manuel had no children, the administration should be given to his nun daughter [whose name is not mentioned] during her life, and after her death his nephew Baltasar and his brother Gaspar. If none had descendants, the administration should be given to the closest relative of the generation of his mother, Madalena Fernandes.

The three entailed properties will be transmitted in the generation of each administrator. Will chart made by António Lopes de Faria in which he ordered, among several other dispositions, the foundation of an entail in Vila da Praia with a perpetual obligation of chapel of masses in the hermitage of N. Sra. do Rosário. He appointed his nephew Pedro de Faria as first administrator of the entail and always, preferably, the eldest male heir after him. If Pedro dies without descendants, the administration should be given to António de Faria or the closest relative. He ordered that the administrator should give yearly 1 000 cruzados to the Confraria de Nossa Senhora do Rosário and 10 cruzados to his poorest relatives. He ordered that all the administrators should bear the surname "Faria" or otherwise lose the administration. Finally, he recommended that his nephews should always nourish friendship between them and with the people of Lagoa, conserving the manners of the land and not those of their original lan, Vila do Conde. He also mentioned that his father founded a chapel in Vila do Conde and therefore the administrator of this newly founded entail should administrate both of them.

He institutes a chapel in the church of Misericórdia of Alvito, entailing assets to fulfill the charges. He appoints Tomás, son of Maria Magro, his niece, as administrator, if he were a clergyman. The administrators were supposed to be clerics, descendants of Maria Magro, excluding, however, Damião Dias Magro and Pedro de Lemos. If the descendants were extinguished, the administration would fall to the deão of the cathedral of Évora.

Will chart by which Martinho Ferreira, Escudeiro da Casa do Rei, and his wife, Violante Lourenço, establish an entail with all their assets, including houses in Lisboa and the farmstead (quinta) of Malapados. After the death of one of them, the spouse who survives should administer it and assure, each year, the preparation of two feasts for 24 poor people, which must happen on Holy Thursday and on Pentecost. They declare that their bodies should be buried in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1468-05-19 and an opening deed issued on 1469-01-18.

Will chart by which Vasco Lourenço, mercador, and Isabel Afonso, his wife, establish a shelter for poor people in the houses they own in Lisboa. They entail to it lands (casais) in Sintra, Cascais and Olivais, whose revenues should also support the celebration of annual masses in the church of S. Nicolau of Lisboa, where their bodies would be buried. After the death of one of the members of the couple, the surviving one should become the shelter's administrator, passing it to Estêvão Pires, alfaiate. He is bound to transmit it to his eldest son. Will chart of Álvaro da Costa entailing 40 alqueires of land to the celebration of two chapels for his soul, in the monastery of S. Francisco of Ponta Delgada and appointing Vasco Caldeira as administrator and, after his death, Duarte Borges and his successors. Álvaro da Costa also appoints his nephew, Duarte Borges, as administrator and his successor in the available portions and chapels of his father and grandfather; Manuel da Costa, his brother; and Margarida Mendes, his aunt. He mentions that he has a land entailed to the chapel of Beatriz da Costa, his cousin, which will be administrated after his death by the daughter of Beatriz da Costa and her offspring.

Will chart of Francisco Gonçalves Vila Chã and Maria Gonçalves, his wife. They declare they had signed a contract, in 1604-03-26, with the provedor of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Azurara, reserving the income from several properties for the construction of the chancel of that church and hospital expenses. They now entail those properties as a chapel and appoint Maria Tomé, as the first administrator. A daughter was to succeed her, with females taking precedence in administration.
They institute another entail with properties located in the outskirts of Prado which shall be used to purchase olive oil and wax for the Santíssimo Sacramento of the convent of São Francisco of Azurara. They appoint Maria Carneiro as the first administrator, to be succeeded by her daughter, Ana.
They also institute a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora, on the altar of Piedade in the Convent of São Francisco de Azurara, and appoint Justa as the first administrator, to be succeded by one of her children.

They designate their daughter, Maria Temudo, as the administrator of the chapel established by Maria Barata, in Oleiros, which they both administered, and annex properties to it.

He appointed Leonor de Andrade to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by Rui Pais de Andrade and from there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest heir, whether male or female. If the illegitimate children of the institutor (Lourenço and Margarida) were legitimated by the king, they would inherit half of the entail.

He establishes an entail with his properties in Lisboa and Graciosa, Açores, and appoints his eldest son, Jerónimo da Veiga, as his universal heir and administrator of the entail. He establishes an obligation of a daily mass and one annual mass in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his successors can build a tomb for themselves, with 20 000 reis of alms. If Jerónimo da Veiga doesn't have children, the entail shall go to his brother, Luís da Veiga, if he doesn't become a cleric, or to the lineage of Tristão Vaz da Veiga's brother, Lourenço da Veiga.

Will chart by which Maria de Almada, daughter of Pedro Gomes de Almada and Joana Vaz da Mota, bequeaths various houses in Lisboa and two farmsteads (quintas) in Arrentela to her sister, Catarina da Mota. After Catarina's death, those properties would be divided and must become part of two different entails. One of them, composed of houses in Lisboa and the two farmsteads in Arrentela, should be administrated by Maria's nephew, António da Mota. The other one, composed of houses in that city, must be administrated by Leonor Godinho, Maria's niece. António, Leonor and their successors were obligated to celebrate annual masses in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa.

Will chart by which D. Catarina da Rocha, Baltasar da Silva's wife, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, entailing part of her patrimony. She asks the executors of her will to buy the chapel of S. Jorge of that convent, where she and her husband should be buried. The institutor appoints the latter to be the entail's first administrator, obligating him to celebrate annual masses for her soul, to spend part of its annual revenues sustaining the ransom of captives and in the marriage of orphan girls. Baltasar da Silva should be succeeded by Diogo Lopes da Rocha, her brother. After his death, the entail would be administrated by the prior of that convent.
Catarina da Rocha also declares that if the executors choose not to establish a chapel in that convent, they could use part of her assets to found a college dedicated to the study of arts and theology. There, it would be instituted a chapel, where her remains would rest and masses should be celebrated for her soul. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1615-02-28.
