Ricarda Antunes had inherited the third part of her father’s assets with the condition that it would pass to her brother, António de Azevedo, and his children if she had no offspring. As António de Azevedo had already died, his daughter Catarina Ferreira was to succeed and receive the share of the houses that belonged to her grandfather and the share that belonged to her aunt. Catarina was to own the houses in their entirety and entailed to Ricarda’s chapel, paying rent to the convent, and compensating her brothers for any claims they may have on them.

These pious charges are intended for her soul and for the souls of her husband, father and mother. To ensure that this obligation is fulfilled, she entails the houses she owns in Lisboa, near the convent of Trindade, which belong to a third of her assets. She appoints her son Lourenço de Leiria as first administrator for this chapel. In the event of his death, she specifies other alternatives among her children who are to succeed the administration in the order set out. She also determines other conditions for succession.

These houses belong to the third of his assets and whoever owns them could not divide or sell them and would always have to fulfil the pious obligations. The testator bequeaths these properties and the remaining part of his third to his wife, Isabel Ribeiro. She must fulfil all or only part of the pious charges during her life and should appoint someone she wishes to succeed. Isabel Ribeiro could also join her third, establish more pious charges, leaving them to whoever she wished, without their children being able to contest.
