Donation deed by which Nicolau Sacoto, bispo de Tânger, donated to his brother Gonçalo Mendes Sacoto, fidalgo da casa real and adail-mor do reino, somes houses located in Lisboa, that should be transmitted to his brother's heirs. The administrators were to order the celebration of masses in the Church of São Cristóvão, in the Cathedral of Tânger and in the Church of Santa Maria de Óbidos. The institutor's brother accepted this donation and obligations.

Donation deed by which Inês Martins, Vasco Vicente's widow and João Preto's sister-in-law, declared that, after her death, a vineyard she owned in Torre do Fato would be transmitted to her daughter, Catarina Vaz. She determined that the latter and her descendants had to pay a rent, each year, of 150 réis and a chicken to the church of S. João Batista of Lumiar in order to support the celebration of an annual mass in the chapel of S. Vicente.
João Preto and his wife, Isabel Eanes, donated an annual rent of 150 réis and a chicken to that church with the purpose of supporting the celebration of a mass, each year, for their souls and the souls of their deceased relatives in the chapel of S. Vicente. The rent would be extracted from a vineyard in that place. After their deaths, it would be inherited by Fernando Eanes, their son. He and his descendants were henceforth obligated to fulfil that obligation.

Donation deed by which Andreza Barreiros bequeathed mills (atafonas) on Rua da Rosa das Partilhas, Lisboa, to Isabel, daughter of one of her relatives and Francisco de Eça de Castro's goddaughter, as a dowry. If Isabel died before her mother, Simoa dos Santos, without leaving descendants, the property would be given to the latter. But if Simoa died before Isabel reached her majority, Domingas da Rosa, Simoa's sister, would be responsible for supporting her niece and controlling the property. Whoever owned the mills would be obligated to support the celebration of 2 annual masses. If there were no heirs or direct descendants of these 3 women, the entail would be administrated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
The donor left houses near the same street to Simoa dos Santos, determining that they had to be transmitted to one of her children or, in their absence, to someone she appointed. If she did not designate a successor, the houses would be passed to Isabel and subsequently given to her eldest heir with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 4 annual masses.
Andreza also gave houses located on the parish of Loreto to Domingas da Rosa, obligating her and her legitimate descendants to celebrate 4 annual masses in the church of Nossa Senhora do Loreto.

Donation deed by which Maria Pires Rová, Martinho Fernandes' widow, donates houses and vineyards in Lisboa to the convent of S. Domingos of that city, obligating its friars to celebrate annual masses for her soul and that of her husband, which was buried inside the chapel of S. Martinho. She declares that before her death she would appoint a relative to be the chapel's first administrator, demanding that, every year, her successor should give 105 libras to the convent. Followed by a letter of possession.

Donation deed by which Luís de Brito, Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, administrator of the entails of S. Lourenço de Lisboa and S. Estêvão de Beja, and his wife, D. Joana de Ataíde, donated, respectively, the third part of his assets and all of her patrimony to the convent of Nossa Senhora do Rosário of Lisboa, which they had founded, obligating its friars to celebrate 2 daily perpetual masses, 2 weekly masses and 2 masses each All Saint's day for their souls. The institutors maintained the privilege of giving consent to the choice of the convent's prioress. After the death of both of them, the Provinciais da Ordem de S. Domingos would become the administrators of the convent and of their chapel. The ornaments of their chapel are minutely described, as well as their devotional library. Followed by a warrant confirming this deed, issued on 1519-08-30, and a termo de apresentação, issued on 1520-03-02.

Donation deed by which Gonçalo Álvares, guarda da Porta da Cruz, and Isabel Vaz, his wife, donate to Branca Vaz, their criada, and to Marcos Fernandes, her husband, a house in the parish of S. Miguel, with the obligation that they and their successors should support the celebration of a mass, each year, in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa for the souls of the donors and of Isabel Gonçalves.

Donation deed by which Doutor Gonçalo Fernandes, Corregedor da Corte do Rei, and Isabel Afonso, his wife, donated a rent extracted from the revenues of houses in Lisboa to the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça of Lisboa. The prior and friars of the convent accepted this donation and committed themselves to celebrate an annual mass for the donors' souls, every year, on the day of S. Martinho.

Donation deed by which Inês Eanes, André Afonso's widow, donates houses in Lisboa to João Fernandes, her compadre, and Maria Criada, his wife, obligating them and their successors to support the celebration of one annual mass for her soul in the church of S. Estêvão of that city.

Donation deed made by Domingos Meireles and his wife Cecília Abreu, annexing some properties previously bought to the foundation of a chapel in honour of Nossa Senhora da Vida, with two weekly masses. The founders should be the first administrators of the chapel, and the following administrators should be the heirs to the quinta de Rio de Moinhos, entailed to the aforementioned chapel.

Donation deed made by Manuel Rodrigues Pinhão and his wife Maria Fernandes in which they ordered the foundation of an entail, composed of some lands, houses and other properties in Marvão and Revelados do Meio, all of them donated to their nephew Pedro Coelho, student, in order to contribute to his ordainment as clergyman, who would also be the first administrator of this entail, with the condition that he and his successors should order the celebration of ten masses every year, perpetually, as long as the world lasted. After his death Pedro Coelho he was obliged to appoint his brother Manuel Fernandes Coelho to succeed him with the same condition that he and all following administrators should appoint their successor, male or female, within their same bloodline.

Donation deed by Gonçalo Esteves, granting all his estates and goods to Francisco Botelho, under the condition that they should be entailed, using part of the revenues to pay for masses in favour of Gonçalo's soul.

Donation deed by António Fernandes, refering the foundation of a chapel dedicated to Santo António in São Martinho de Armil, and appointing as administrator Sebastião Fernandes, priest. After his death, the successor should be a cleric relative, as long as he lived as further as one league from the chapel.

Donation deed in which Margarida de Miranda donated an olive grove in Lixosa and her houses in Portalegre to her nephew padre Domingos Mendes, thereby ordering the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of fourty masses celebrated every year during the first five years after the institutor's death, and from there on the entail would have a perpetual pious obligation of masses in every holidays of Christ and of the Virgin Mary, and on each one of the twelve apostles holidays. Domingos would appoint an administrator to succeed him with the same conditions.

Donation deed by which Lourenço Domingues, administrator of the chapel established by Afonso Eanes Zaratão, hands over the administration of that chapel to Vasco de Arez, with the consent of D. Afonso, bishop of Guarda, claiming that he was unable to fulfill the charges by being sick.

Donation deed by which Maria Carolas donates houses in Lisboa to Sebastião Fernandes, Cavaleiro do Rei, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of an annual mass for the souls of Fernando Álvares, the donor's late husband, and of his parents in the church of S. Nicolau of Lisboa. After the first administrator's death, the entail should be inherited by one of his sons. Sebastião Fernandes gives his consent to this deed.

Donation deed made in São Filipe, Ilha do Fogo, by cónego Rafael Gomes, in Cabo Verde, in which he donated his farms of Pico and Garça, with all their lands, plantations and enslaved persons to Arsénio Gomes, a boy that he raised in his home, with the condition that he and his descendants would order the celebration of one perpetual sung mass and half of one divine office for the salvation of his soul. After the death of Arsénio the succession should always continue on his legitimate descendants, or if he had none, the administration would be handled to his sister Catarina or to his sister Juliana Fernandes. If Arsénio ever married with a woman of colour, the administration would be immediatly handled to his nephews. If any of the entailed enslaved persons died, the administrator would be obliged to replace him or her.

Donation deed by which Catarina do Carvalhal, Fernando Dias de la Torre’s widow, appoints her husband’s brother, Cristóvão Heranço, his wife D. Catarina Carcomo and their heirs to succeed in leases (prazos) and properties after her death. This couple accepts the donation and the obligation of purchasing a public debt instrument of 35 000 réis or more to fulfil charges with masses and with the donor’s chapel in the church of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa, according to the wishes she expressed in her will, mortgaging some houses next to the church of S. Luís in Lisbon to secure the payment. The assets donated, as well as all the payments and obligations are described in detail.

Donation deed by which Ana Brandão gives her houses located in Lisboa to Beatriz Pestana with the obligation to celebrate masses for her soul each year in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa, with the rents of the houses.

Donation deed by which Francisco Dias, correeiro de obra grossa, donated a rent (foro) of 1 200 réis extracted from houses in Bairro dos Escolares, Lisboa, to the church of S. Pedro of Alfama, where his wife, Isabel Marques, was buried. Its priests were obligated to celebrate annual masses for his soul and for the souls of his relatives. They should collect that sum of money, each year, from the chapel's administrators. Followed by a termo de aceitação.

Donation deed by which D. Afonso Nogueira, Bispo de Coimbra, donated houses in Rua dos Fornos, Lisboa, to his criada, Leonor Afonso, obligating her and her descendants to support the celebration of 13 annual masses for his soul in the church of S. Lourenço of Lisboa. If the children of Leonor Afonso died without leaving heirs, the entail would be inherited by her husband. The latter had to pass it, at the time of his death, to the administrator of the entail that was going to be instituted by the donor in his future will. Leonor Afonso approved this deed.

Donation deed by which Simoa Fernandes donated to her godson João Antunes, sapateiro, five lands that she inherited from her husband Domingos Jorge with the obligation to order the celebration of masses for her soul. These properties are composed of lands in "Lagoa da Bricindeira" and "Pedra do Mouro", and a vineyard called "Cravalheira" located in Albarraque, Sintra.

Donation deed by which Catarina Lopes, widow of Gonçalo Lourenço, donates to Estêvão Pires, pescador, her houses in Alfama, Lisboa, with an obligation of ordering two annual masses for her soul in the church of Santo Estêvão de Alfama. The houses shall pass to his descendants with the same obligation. Estêvão Pires is present and accepts this donation.

Donation deed by which Domingos Ribeiro Cirne, Deputado da Mesa da Consciência e Concelho das Ordens, donated to his brother Lourenço Peixoto Cirne, cavaleiro professo na Ordem de Cristo, all his movable and immovable goods in order to establish an entail. His brother should succeed in this entail with the obligation to order the celebration of masses in the Church of São Cristóvão, in Lisboa. After his death, he should be succeed by his eldest son Cristóvão Peixoto and his heirs. If his brother died before his wife D. Maria de Sequeira, his widow should succeed in this entail, until the marriage of their eldest son. The successors were also obligated to incorporate the half of their "legítimas" if they were single, or their thirds if they were married. This entail is composed of some houses located in the parish of São Cristóvão, and a farm of Caparica, located in Murfacém, on the outskirts of Almada. The institutor's brother Lourenço Peixoto Cirne accepted these obligations.

Donation deed by which Maria Teresa de Leiria, Filipe de Araújo Pacheco's widow, donated a farmstead (quinta) in Olivais, Lisboa, houses in that city and a vineyard in Caparica to D. Francisca Antónia de Brito, D. Francisca Maria de Brito's daughter, niece of the donor, thus instituting an entail. The entail's first administrator had the obligation to give, each year, 3 000 réis to one of the daughters of Doutor Manuel Freire de Ocanha; the same amount of money to Maria Ana de Miranda, Dinis de Barros' wife, if she became a widow and 2 000 réis to Manuel de Padilha de Miranda's daughter, who was a nun in the convent of Santa Ana. The entail's future administrators had to support the celebration of annual masses for the institutor's soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa.
The donor also declared that any assets which could be obtained at the end of the legal dispute opposing her to João da Fonseca, Maria da Conceição and Gaspar Abreu de Freitas, concerning the patrimony of her late brother, Simão Monteiro de Leiria, should be incorporated in the entail.
D. Francisca Antónia de Brito gave her consent to this deed.

Donation deed by which Inês de Freitas donated to Damião da Mota a farm located in Loures, with the obligation to celebrate masses for her soul. The administration of this chapel should be transmitted to his heirs.

Donation deed by which D. Ângela de Carvalho, Doutor João de Carvalho Rodarte's mother, donates houses in Almada to Padre José Nunes Rodarte, thus settling a debt the donor owed to his father. She ordered that, after her death, those houses must be leased and their rents entailed to Domingos Nunes and Ana Maria Rodarte's chapel. Its administrators are henceforth obligated to support the celebration of 10 more masses in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa. It is referred that, after the death of José Nunes Duarte, the chapel would be administrated by D. Ângela de Carvalho.

Donation deed by which D. Frei Jerónimo de Gouveia, bispo de Ceuta, revoked a previous donation made to his brothers, and donated a public debt instrument of 60 000 réis in Almoxarifado do Pescado to be spend on the conversion of jews, moors and gentiles or, in alternative, in orphans dowries. He designated Bartolomeu Nogueira, escrivão da Casa dos Catecumenos, to be its administrator, as well as the priests of Companhia de Jesus. He also established the obligation to celebrate masses in the Monastery of Santa Marta, and that the abbess and nuns of this monastery were obligated to administer it under the supervision of the administrators. The first administrator Bartolomeu Nogueira should designate whomever he wanted to succeed in the chapel, but if he died prior the institutor, he would nominate the successor.

Donation deed by which the cónego André Rodrigues donates an estate in Redemoinhos and other properties in Elvas to D. Pedro de Mesquita, as an entail, with the obligation of ordering an annual mass for the soul of bailio frei Pedro de Mesquita in the chapel of Santo António of the cathedral of Elvas. The entail shall pass to his children or, if he dies without successors, to his brother, D. Manuel, or to other members of their family.

Donation deed by which Aníbal Sernige donates to Manuel Sernige, his son, several properties located on the outskirts of Porto, Feira, Aveiro, Esgueira and Ílhavo, as an entail. The administrator was responsible for appointing the successor from among his sons. If not, it would be for the eldest. The charges were to be celebrated in the hermitage of Nossa Senhora, in the place of Sá, on the outskirts of Ílhavo. In case of extinction of the lineage, he would stay in that hermitage. Manuel Sernige and Maria Ferreira, his wife, accept the conditions of the donation, undertake to fulfill the charges and attach other properties to the entail.

Donation deed by which Miguel Nunes de Carvalho donates all his movable and immovable assets to D. Maria de Paiva, daughter of João Correia da Costa and D. Maria de Paiva, his wife, in remuneration for the many services provided by their parents. The donation is made by establishing charges, celebrated in the church of São João da Ribeira, where the donor wanted to be buried. The donor reserves the usufruct of all assets during his lifetime. The first administrator would be succeeded by the son or daughter of her choice.

Donation deed by which Sebastião Pereira and his wife Ana da Costa decided to give all their assets to Sebastião. The couple did not have any children of their own, but in view of the great affection they both had for Sebastião, who was Sebastião Pereira's natural son, they decided that he should be the heir to their estate. The property, namely the farmstead of Bastuço, was incorporated into a chapel with the task of celebrating a perpetual weekly mass in the church of Santa Maria de Barcelos, where the couple were to be buried. On the death of the couple, Sebastião would take possession of the estate, to be succeeded by his first-born son, excluding any illegitimate children from the administration. If he had no descendants, the entail was to be given to Ambrósio Pereira, who was also a legitimate son of Sebastião Pereira, or alternatively to his nephew Gaspar de Maris.

Donation deed made by Bartolomeu Chambel, lavrador, and his wife Catarina Fernandes in which they entailed and donated several properties, consisting of houses and farmlands in Crato, to the licenciado Manuel Manso Leitão, son of Manuel Teixeira Leitão, ordering the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual obligation of thirty masses celebrated every year, with the condition that Manuel Manso Leitão would use the revenue of the entailed assets to became a clergyman. After the death of Manuel, the administration would be handled to the closest relative, and from there on the succession should always continue accordingly to the Laws of the kingdom.

Donation deed by Jorge da Costa da Mesquita and Ana da Silva Correia of estates to be entailed to the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in the church of Santo Estêvão of Geraz. The administrator of the chapel should also be the possessor of the estate of quintãa do Paços de Geraz.

Donation deed by Maria Antunes, widow of Tomé Rodrigues, to her brother, Francisco Gonçalves, of her available portion, composed of a land and a house in Covas, Ameixoeira, as a reward, with the pious obligation of 700 réis of prayed masses, per year, in the monastery of S. Domingos de Benfica, in the outskirts of Lisbon. Francisco Gonçalves was present and accepted this donation.

Donation deed made by Pedro Fernandes Poupano and his wife Beatriz Vaz Dourada ordering the foundation of an entail, composed of an estate in Carril, district of Portalegre, which was donated to their grandson Manuel Vaz Dourado, with condition that he and his descendants should celebrate perpetually, as long as the world lasted, 10 masses every year. If he died without heirs, the administration should be transmitted to his brother António Pires Cavaleiro or his sister Maria Vaz Dourada. If none of them had children, the administration of the entail should hand down to the closest relative of Beatriz Vaz Dourada.

Donation deed by Sebastião Álvares Pimenta, entailing estates to a chapel he had previously built.

Donation deed by Pedro Brás, giving entailed properties to his nephew Gaspar Dias. His nephew should become a cleric, and the entails revenues' were meant to support him during his studies. Gaspar should abdicate of the entail at the moment he obtains a well sustained position. After that, the entail should be granted to the closest kin who wishes to become a cleric.

Donation deed in which Amador de Carvalho declares that he and his wife, Joana de Lima, have built a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Bom Despacho, making the necessary donations to the chapel's "fábrica" and establishing an entail that includes assets to be permanently attached to the chapel. They also imposed the obligation of celebrating two masses every week. Leonel de Abreu, a nephew of Joana de Lima, was appointed as administrator. The priest and next of kin would take over after his death. If there were more than two clerics with the same degree of kinship, the most virtuous would be preferred. Lay relatives were admitted only in the absence of clerics. The deed of donation had to be recorded in the "Livro das capelas" of Braga, so that the devotional obligations would be remembered and fulfilled.

Donation deed by Leonor Mascarenhas of her houses and backyards, in Montemor-o-Velho, to her son, António da Fonseca de Andrade, who will inherit these assets as an entail, which she and her husband, Gaspar da Fonseca, want to found with their available portions. The houses and backyards will be the entail's head. She also orders her husband to found this entail and list its conditions.

Donation deed by Jerónima de Oliveira to her nephew, Padre Manuel de Oliveira Pimentel, of a vineyard, a house and a oil press, in the outskirts of Vila Franca do Campo, with the pious obligation of a half of a chapel of prayed masses, founding an entail. Padre Manuel de Oliveira Pimentel will appoint a person of his choice to succeed him after his death.

Donation deed by João Eanes, mercador, and his wife Maria Eanes da Rua, to the monastery of S. Francisco do Porto. For the salvation of their souls, the couple decided to leave the rents of properties located in Porto to the Convent of S. Francisco do Porto, where they would choose their burial place and where perpetual masses would be celebrated. The monastery accepted the dues, the fees of which would be paid by the heir of João Eanes and Maria Eanes, who would act as administrator, followed by their descendants, by appointment or, if the last owner did not name an heir, by preference of the male over the female.

Donation deed by Gaspar Dias and Ana de Medeiros, his wife, founding an entail with their available portions and appointing André Dias de Medeiros, their son, as first administrator. André Dias de Medeiros accepted the donation and promised to fulfil all the clauses and conditions.

Donation deed made by Beatriz Rodrigues in which she donated several properties in Portalegre's district to Rodrigo de Reboredo with the condition that he would study and became a clergyman. Those properties should compose an entail that would have a perpetual pious obligation of twenty masses celebrated every year by Rodrigo himself during his lifetime. After the death of Rodrigo, the administration would be transmitted to his mother Francisca de Reboredo or some of her daughters, preferably Maria de Matos in first place, or Luísa de Reboredo, in second. And from there on the succession should always continue on their children, preferably the eldest male heir. However, if none of them had children, the administration would be handled to the Tesoureiro-Mor of the mother church of Portalegre with the same pious obligation of twenty masses and two more privileged masses celebrated every year.

Donation deed in which Catarina de Cáceres donated a vineyard and an olive grove in Loureiro to her niece Catarina de Carvalho and her husband Manuel Vaz, thereby ordering the foundation of an entail that should be administrated by them and by their descendants, preferably the eldest male heir, with a perpetual pious obligation of five masses celebrated every year in the convent of S. Francisco of Portalegre.

Dowry deed in which António Pires Subtil and his wife Maria Marques enwoed their son Pedro Marques with all the assets that remains of their own reserved portions, thereby ordering the foundation of an entail with a perpetual pious obligation of ten masses celebrated every year in the Church of Espírito Santo, in Marvão. Pedro would administrate the entail during his lifetime, and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on his eldest male heir, or, if he had none, the administration would be handled to his sister Maria Mendes with the same conditions. In case Pedro, or any of his descendants, succeeded on the administration of another entail, bigger than this one, he could appoint one of his sons to succeed on this entail. This entail is composed of houses, orchard, vineyards, lands and a farm located in Marvão.

Donation deed by which Inês de Cobelos, widow of doutor João Carreiro, desembargador dos Agravos na Casa da Suplicação, donates a lease named a Paradela, in Loures, of which her husband was the second life and she was the third, to her nephew, Jorge Carreiro de Almada, son of doutor António Carreira de Almada, desembargador dos Agravos, brother of her husband. She establishes as condition for this donation that he shall order 20 annual masses for her soul in the church of S. Roque, where she shall be buried, in the chapel of Chagas, where her niece, D. Luzia de Beja, is buried. He must entail a property of his own to this obligation. Jorge Carreiro de Almada entails a house in Alfama, Lisboa, which had belonged to his father-in-law, Jerónimo Correia, and he and his wife, Luísa da Gama, promise to fulfill the obligations in exchange for the lease. Followed by letter of possession dated 1590-02-13, in which it is explained that the lease donated to Jorge Carreiro de Almada was "foreira" to the chapel of D. Gil de Alma in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa.

Donation deed by which Beatriz Esteves donates to Gonçalo Casco an estate, located in Machede, with pious charges associated, celebrated in the monastery of São Francisco of Évora. After his death, Gonçalo Casco shall be succeeded by his legitimate and suitable son.

Donation deed by which Gonçalo Vaz donates an hospital in Sacavém, which was founded by one of his ancestors, and its properties to Pedro Afonso, Afonso Domingues' son. The latter and his descendants are obligated to support the celebration of annual masses for the institutor's soul in the church where his body would be buried and to guarantee that the hospital has four beds, which should be occupied by poor people. If, at the time of the donor's death, a son or a grandson survives him, he must become the administrator of the hospital instead of Pedro Afonso. Afonso Domingues, Cavaleiro do Conselho do Rei, approves this deed on behalf of his minor son.

Donation deed by which Manuel Gonzaga Mexia and his wife Mariana Caldeira donated to Domingos Ferreira Nunes and his wife Maria Pereira some houses located in Lisboa, with the obligation to celebrate masses wherever they wanted. The institutors also stipulated that those donated should give them 19 000 réis each year from the rents of the houses.

Donation deed by which Isabel Dias, João Faleiro's widow, donates houses in Rua dos Ourives da Prata and in the parish of S. Tomé to Isabel Dias Freire and Diogo Freire, Cristóvão Freire and Maria Nunes' children. She obligates Isabel Dias Freire and her successors to support the celebration of a sung mass for her soul and for the soul of her husband in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa. By doing so, she revokes a clause of her will, through which she had left those 2 houses to Maria Nunes, who died before being able to inherit them.

Donation deed by which Bento Nunes, cónego in the cathedral of Elvas, donates to D. António Lobo and his wife, D. Joana de Mesquita, an estate in Elvas, as an entail, with the obligation of an annual mass in the chapel of Santo António of his cathedral. This entail should be annexed to the one founded by António de Mesquita with his estates of Torre do Caia and Freixas, which he donated as a dowry to D. Joana and D. António, and shall pass with it to their descendants, with the same conditions dictated by António de Mesquita.

Donation deed by which Beatriz Fernandes, widow of Domingos Martins Morgado, donates all of her properties in Monsaraz and its surroundings, including her half of the estate of Sardinha, to her nephew, Manuel Fernandes, son of her sister Catarina Lopes, as an entail, with the obligation of a daily mass in the altar of Nossa Senhora do Rosário of the church of Santa Maria da Lagoa. He can appoint its chaplain and the future administrator among his children, who will, afterwards, appoint the next administrators among their descendants. If no appointment is made, the entail shall pass to the eldest son. She also promises to buy two moios of wheat to annex to her entail.

Donation deed by which D. Catarina Cardoso, wife of Nuno de Almeida, establishes a chapel in the main church of Fronteira, fulfilling the will of her brother-in-law, doutor António Pimenta, who had bequeathed her 3 000 cruzados for that purpose. The masses of the chapel shall be prayed in his name, her own name and the name of her sisters, D. Inês Cardoso, António's wife, and Isabel Lopes de Morais. She donates the chapel to her brother, licenciado Domingo Cardoso, who can appoint a descendant as next administrator. Domingos Cardoso is present, accepts the donation and promises to fulfill the obligations.

Donation deed by which Mécia Ribeira declared, on the presence of her husband Manuel de Soutomaior, that she appointed her cousin Ana Serrão e Sousa, also in the presence of her husband Lázaro Malheiro da Cunha, to take possession of her farm located in Penha Longa, Sintra, and to use its rents for the celebration of masses in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in Lisboa.

Donation deed by which Bárbara da Veiga Fagundes, sister of Brázia da Veiga Fagundes and her last will executor, declared that her sister died and she wanted to fulfil the dispositions mentioned in her last will. In this way, Bárbara da Veiga Fagundes donated to padre Francisco Martins de Lemos half of her assets, and the other half left by Brázia da Veiga Fagundes should be used for the celebration of masses, rectifying her sister's will. The institutor left to Francisco Martins de Lemos this assets and declared that he could appoint whomever he wanted to succeed in this entail.

Donation deed by which Francisco da Veiga, widower, bequeathed houses in the parish of S. Paulo of Lisboa to his sister-in-law, Maria Carvalho, Fernando Álvares' widow, obligating her and her heirs to support the celebration of 12 annual masses for his soul in the main chapel of the church of Misericórdia of Lisboa. After Maria Carvalho's death, the entail would be inherited by one of her daughters.

Donation deed by which Catarina Freire established an entail, designating her nephew Sebastião da Cunha da Fonseca to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Church of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of lands and rents located in Póvoa and Vila de Muge; houses and vineyards in Póvoa de Santo Adrião; houses located in Castelo Branco; rights on some "capitanias" of "naus da Índia"; houses located in Lisboa; and a public debt instrument of 10 160 réis in Alfândega de Lisboa.

A escritura de dote e casamento, celebrada em 1493 (...) entre João Vaz e Violante Fernandes, e seu filho João de Medeiros e noiva Beatriz Ribeiro, filha de Manuel Afonso, escudeiro e almoxarife, e de Leonor Ribeiro, estabelece encargo anual de cinco missas rezadas na aludida igreja, imposto nos seguintes bens doados: terra de canaviais na Lombada, sobre a Ribeira da Tabua, com a condição de ceder aos instituidores cinquenta arrobas de açúcar branco de uma cozedura e de construir uma casa sobradada na Rua da Prevenção; animais domésticos; um escravo preto. A escritura refere ainda que João Vaz possuía um engenho com caldeiras, formas, casa de purgar, e tudo o necessário ao fazimento de açúcar.

Dowry and donation deed made by Maria Soares de Melo to Francisco Soares de Melo, capitão-mor of Lagoa, her cousin, of 18 alqueires of vineyard and a farmstead (casal) with the pious obligation of a perpetual chapel of prayed masses in the church of Nossa Senhora das Mercês and 2 cruzados to the church cleaning. Francisco Soares de Melo and his wife will appoint, after their death, one of their sons to succeed them.

Dowry deed by Ana Gonçalves, Isabel Fernandes, sisters, and Roque Gonçalves da Costa to Manuel Vaz Carreiro, son of Roque Gonçalves da Costa, to marry Maria de Sousa de Benevides, niece of Ana Gonçalves and Isabel Fernandes. Ana Gonçalves and Isabel Fernandes put aside, at the time of their deaths, two moios of income from their real estate to found two chapels for their souls and appoint as their administrator the son or daughter of Manuel Vaz Carreiro and Maria de Sousa de Benevides as, appointed by his or her father. In turn, Roque Gonçalves da Costa, in his and his wife's, Águeda Carreiro, name, give their available portions to Manuel Vaz Carreiro and Maria de Sousa de Benevides, with the pious obligation of a chapel of masses for their souls. The son can appoint as his successor who he wants. Besides, Roque Gonçalves da Costa appoints his son as administrator of the chapel of António Cabral Teixeira.

Dowry deed by which Guiomar Vaz do Peral, Pedro Godinho's widow, donates her third part, composed of her properties in Elvas, as an entail to Cristóvão Godinho, her son, with an obligation of masses in the convent of S. Domingos of that city, where she wishes to be buried.

Dowry deed by which João Afonso de Beja, Vedor da Casa do Infante D. Luís, and his wife, Lucrécia Forjaz, donate 3 000 cruzados de ouro to her daughter, Luísa Forjaz, enabling her marriage with Pedro Vaz, Doutor Pedro Vaz's son. With the purpose of endowing the groom, Grimaneza Forjaz, Doutor Pedro Vaz's wife, establishes an entail with part of her assets, instituting the obligation of celebrating 12 annual masses in the chapel she had founded in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. After her death, it should be administered by her husband and subsequently inherited by her stepson. Grimaneza declares that, except for Pedro, she has no living heirs.

Dowry deed by which Paulo de Oliveira, Maria Teixeira, his wife, and Antónia Mourato, his wife's grandmother, donate a dowry to António Rodrigues Teixeira, their son, for his marriage to Mariana Cardoso. The dowry is made in the form of an entail.

Dowry deed of wedding made by Pedro Vaz Pereira to Jerónimo Rodrigues and Maria Pereira, daughter of Manuel Pereira, donor's niece, including some houses, located in Rua das Pedras, in Vila Viçosa, and several rural properties, on the outskirts of that village. The donor reserves the usufruct of the assets, during his life, and establishes the fulfillment of charges, after his death. After the death of one, they were to be left to the other, and after the death of the second, to his eldest male son.

Dowry deed and donation of a farm, located on the outskirts of Évora, made by Cid António Salvago to Baltasar Mendes dos Reis, with certain charges and obligations, in the form of an entail.

Dowry deed made by Baltasar Alves and Ângela Francisca, his wife, for the wedding of Maria de Pontes, their daughter, to Marçal Leitão Machado. The former appoint the latter as administrators of the chapel's assets they had, located in the parish of São Miguel da Carreira, on the outskirts of Barcelos. The charges had to be celebrated in the monastery of São Francisco of Vila do Conde.

Dowry deed by Isabel Gomes, widow of António Álvares Estaço, to her daughter, Jerónima Madeira, on the ocasion of her marriage to Simão de Seixas, son of Simão de Seixas and Madalena Fernandes. Part of the dowry is made up of a public debt instrument, which she entails with an obligation of masses in the convent of S. Francisco de Xabregas, Lisboa, to be administered by Jerónima Madeira and her husband, and by the successors of her marriage.
Contains a will chart (extract) of António Álvares Estaço and the respective approval deed, dated 1560-03-29; and a grace warrant issued to Simão de Seixas, escrivão of the Alfândega of Lisbon, allowing him to leave the office to one of the sons, dated 1559-07-01.

Dowry deed by which João de Meira Carrilho, canon of Braga Cathedral and commissioner of the Inquisition, son of Gonçalo de Meira and Beatriz Mendes, decided to endow his great-niece Isabel de Meira Carrilho, daughter of Gonçalo Carrilho and Ana da Costa, by her marriage to Estêvão Falcão, fidalgo da casa do rei and son of Manuel Falcão Costa and Ana Maria Teixeira. João de Meira Carrilho left a farmstead in São Miguel do Couto, along with 10,000 cruzados to be used for the purchase of a house and land, declaring that all this property would be entailed. The couple would be the first owners, followed by their descendants, with preference given to first-born sons. The administrators were obliged to use the family name of Meira and to pay for the celebration of 50 annual masses in the Church of Espírito Santo, located in the São Marcos Hospital in Braga, where João de Meira Carrilho would be buried. João de Meira Carrilho also declares that he was the administrator of an entail, located in Castelo de Vide, which had been founded by his father João de Meira, chaplain to the late Infante and Cardinal D. Henrique, and to which he appointed his niece as administrator, since she was of "his blood and generation". João de Meira Carrilho acquired more lands and imposed more masses to be celebrated. He also instructed his heirs to place an image of Christ in the chapel of the mother church of Castelo de Vide. The image was engraved with the relics of several saints. It had belonged to the Emperor Charles V and was given to Manuel Álvares Cardoso when he was secretary to the Marquis of Arronches in Madrid, who bequeathed it to João de Meira Carrilho. In view of its importance, the image and the relics engraved in it were considered to be the head of the entail.

Dowry deed by Jerónima Gil de Abreu to Gaspar Botelho Fogaça, her nephew, to marry to Luísa de Abreu Trigueira, her niece, founding a chapel in the village of Aldeia Galega da Merceana and appointing them as her successors, after her death. She also orders the foundation of the chapel of her sister, Cecília Gil.

ENCARGOS (ANUAIS): i) estabelece quatro capelanias de missa quotidiana, sendo cada um dos quatro capelães da ordem de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo pagos com 50.000 réis anuais; estas capelanias entrariam em vigor após a morte da segunda nomeada D. Antónia Brandão «não serão postas nem admitidas nestas duas vidas» (f. 16 v.º); ii) garantir o ornato da capela, o necessário para o culto divino e as obras de conservação, nobreza e aumento da dita capela e mosteiro «que houver» dos ditos frades nesta Ilha.
BENS DO VÍNCULO: doa todos os seus bens móveis e de raiz, havidos e por haver, excetuando os legados e obrigações, à capela-mor da igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo do Funchal, onde seu marido estava enterrado, doação justificada pela particular devoção por esta capela e por desejar muito o aumento da mesma e do seu culto divino. As duas primeiras nomeadas seriam obrigadas a dar a quarta parte dos rendimentos dos ditos bens vinculados para o ornato da dita capela e obras do mosteiro. Depois, quando a administração passasse para os Terceiros do Carmo (Ordem dos Terceiros Carmelitas), o rendimento destes bens, pagos os gastos dos encargos, capelães e prémio dos administradores, seria totalmente gasto no necessário para o culto divino e nas obras de conservação, nobreza e aumento da dita capela e mosteiro «que houver» dos ditos frades nesta Ilha, como dito. Ordena que se retire da prata lavrada o necessário para a aludida capela-mor e sacristia (nas f. 3 v.º, 6 v.º e 194-197 consta informação da prata lavrada cedida); quanto ao dinheiro, ouro e prata de moeda corrente, uma vez pago o que dispusera, seria empregue em propriedades e anexadas a esta capela.
Vincula estes bens («capela e morgado que neles fas»), assegurando que nunca seriam vendidos, nem aforados, nem obrigados a dívidas nem fianças a Sua Alteza ou a pessoas particulares, andariam sempre juntos e conservados para a dita capela e administração. Fazendo-se o contrário, o comissário dos Terceiros do Carmo ou quem o cargo servisse entraria logo na administração do vínculo.
Finalmente, esclarece que todos os títulos dos seus bens estavam na mão do irmão Manuel Martins Brandão, e que o Juízo dos Resíduos faria a medição dos mesmos bens de raiz.
SUCESSÃO: nomeia por administradora a irmã Isabel Brandão, mulher honesta e solteira (f. 49), depois a sobrinha D. Antónia Brandão; por morte destas seria administrador Frei Pedro de Herédia, comissário dos Terceiros do Carmo, ou o religioso que «por cabeça maior» assista então na dita capela e igreja do Carmo, «pelo tempo em diante athe o fim do mundo», recebendo pelo trabalho de administrar 50.000 réis anuais (as duas primeiras nomeadas não receberiam tal remuneração, uma vez que só seriam obrigadas a dar a quarta parte dos rendimentos dos ditos bens para o ornato da dita capela e obras do mosteiro).
OUTROS VÍNCULOS: administra a capela do marido, imposta na terça dos seus bens, designando como seu sucessor e administrador a capela-mor de Nossa Senhora do Carmo.

Dowry deed concerning the marriage between Bento Ferreira de Andrade and Margarida de Miranda, through which Bento’s parents founded an entail to the new couple, granting him permission to appoint the next successor.

Dowry deed made by the padre Belchior de Videira for the marriage of Catarina de Videira de Andrade, his niece, with Diogo Pereira Falcão, in the amount of 6 000 cruzados. Of this amount, 5 000 cruzados are intended for the purchase of real estate, which would be entailed to the pious charge of an annual mass. After the death of the first administrators, they would be succeeded by their male son, whom they appoint.

Dowry deed by which Rodrigo Afonso, carpinteiro de tenda, and his wife, Maria Lopes, make a donation to José Rodrigues and Baltasar Rodrigues, sons of Rodrigo Afonso's first marriage to Violante Rodrigues, on the occasion of their marriages to Inês and Maria Borges, daughters of Vicente Borges and Guiomar Gil. They donate to José Rodrigues their houses in Rua do Álamo, Lisboa, and other properties belonging to Maria Lopes, to be entailed with an obligation of one weekly mass and one annual mass for their souls. If José Rodrigues dies without descendants, the entail shall pass to his brother, Baltasar, and his descendants. If they both die without descendants, the entail shall pass to their wives, first Inês, then Maria Borges.

Capela de Lucas Fernandes e de sua mulher Domingas Luís instituída em 1669-02-09 por escritura de casamento de casamento e dote a sua filha Domingas de Castro e seu noivo João Ribeiro dos seguintes bens: trinta e cinco alqueires de terra em semeadura no Curral da Pedra em Santo António; uma vaca pardieiro; dez cabras e a terça dos seus bens, imposta no seus aposentos na Ribeira de Vasco Gil, na freguesia de Santo António.

Dowry deed by which Catarina de Sá, her brother Luís Pereira de Sá and his wife D. Catarina, wanted to give a dowry to their nephew and son José de Sousa Pereira to marry with D. Isabel de Távora Coutinho, daughter of Pedro Lopes de Quadros and his wife D. Maria Francisca Teles. The donators wanted to incorporate their thirds into the entail founded by Catarina de Sá, which would include some lands, "casais" and olive groves near to the fam of Chafariz das Pipas. It should succeed in the entail the eldest son of his nephew José de Sousa Pereira. The institutor's brother also endowed his son with a farm located in the place of "Meca" and other "prazos" in Lisboa and Guarda. The successors were obligated to order the celebration of masses in the chapel of São Francisco Xavier, in the Church of São Pedro de Alenquer, and were also obligated to deliver the masses certificates to the Misericórdia of Alenquer. D. Luísa Antónia de Távora endowed the bride with a farm located on the outskirts of Lisboa, and 60 000 réis of a "tença" she possessed in Alfândega de Lisboa. Preceded by a power of attorney of D. Luísa Antónia de Sousa dated 1673-05-24.

Dowry deed by which Frei António Coutinho donated all his assets, including lands and houses in Veiros, lands in Estremoz ("herdade dos Mateus") and the "herdade da Azambujeira", to his brother, Francisco António, who was going to marry Catarina Galvão. Thus, he established a chapel, declaring that those properties could never be sold or exchanged and that the couple and his descendants had to fulfil the conditions that he would mencione in his will. If the couple left no descendants, the entailed properties would be inherited by João Gonçalves Galvão, the bride's brother, who would have the obligation of celebrating a daily perpetual mass for his soul. Filipa de Oliveira, Catarina Galvão's mother, donated a rent (foro) of cereal taken from lands in Évora to her daughter.

Dowry deed by which João Soares do Amaral and his wife Sebastiana de Moura donated to their daughter Dona Ana do Amaral all their assets located in Lisboa, Lousã, Rabaçal, Penela do Couto and Monte da Fonte in order to marry to Luís de Valadares Carneiro. The institutors also wanted to incorporate their thirds into the chapel of São José, in the Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Coimbra, designating their future eldest grandson to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses, using the rents of some houses located in Coimbra. Finally, the institutors' established that the chapel's administrator should give to Inês Monteiro de Moura, nun of the Monastery of Semide, 10 000 réis de tença. Dowry deed by which João de Valadares Carneiro and his wife Catarina Pereira donated their assets to their son Luís de Valadares in order to get married with Ana do Amaral. They established an entail using their thirds, with the obligation to celebrate masses in the Misericórdia do Porto and Church of S. Bento, S. Geraldo and Chagas. This entail should be succeeded by his eldest son and the future successors should also incorporate half of their thirds into this entail. The institutor's son was donated with the farm of Veiga de Poucos and the "prazo" of São João da Foz. If the grooms did not live in the institutors' house, they should receive the rents of a public debt instrument of 100 000 réis in Imposição dos Vinhos, 12 000 réis in the houses of "Abelheiro" belonging to the chapel of Maria Carneiro, the prazo of "Meixeira" and Quebrantões, a "herdade" on the outskirts of Barcelos and a vineyard located in Mosteiro.

Dowry deed by which Margarida Vicente, Francisco Silvestre's widow, donates all her assets to Antónia da Gama, her niece, enabling her marriage to Jerónimo de Matos, Cavaleiro Fidalgo da Casa do Rei. She obligates her niece and her heirs to give, each year, 2 000 réis to the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa to support the celebration of annual masses for the donor's soul. That sum of money would be extracted from the revenues of houses located on that city. Antónia da Gama accepts this donation.

Dowry deed by which Brás Teixeira de Távora established an entail, appointing his niece Maria de Oliveira de Faria to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of houses, land, vineyards and an olive grove in Lisboa and its outskirts.

Dowry deed by which Gaspar Coelho, Cavaleiro da Ordem de Cristo, and Catarina de Arvelos, his sister, donate part of a farmstead in Olivais ("quinta da Bela Vista") and houses in Rua das Parreiras, Lisboa, to D. Helena de Andrade, Gaspar's daughter and Catarina's niece, in order to support her marriage to João de Alpoim de Brito. The groom, the bride and their descendants are henceforth obligated to sustain the celebration of 12 annual masses for Catarina de Arvelos' soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of that city. Furthermore, the father of the bride gives the couple the captaincy of a carrack of Carreira da Índia, which the King had granted him 30 years before that date.
D. Helena de Andrade and João de Alpoim de Brito give their consent to this deed. Contains a copy of a letter of attorney issued on 1613-05-25.

Dowry deed in which Francisco Nunes Velho, priest, endowed António Pacheco de Oliveira on the occasion of his marriage with Ana de Resende, daughter of Nuno Curvelo and Catarina Fernandes, and founded an entail with a perpetual obligation of one mass celebrated every week, two masses in S. Francisco's day and another in Onze Mil Virgens' day. He named António Pacheco and Ana de Resende as first administrators, and after the death of both of them the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. If they had no children, the entail should be administrated by his nephew Francisco Nunes de Melo with the same conditions, or the person that he, doner, appoints on his will.

Dowry deed and institution of chapel made by Cristóvão Barradas de Farelães in favor of Agostinho de Matos Leitão, his brother, to marry Maria de Sousa de Vasconcelos, his niece. The dowry is made in the form of a chapel, with the assets entailed to the fulfillment of charges, celebrated in the church of Farelães.

Dowry deed by which D. Branca de Sousa de Esparragosa, wife of doutor Rodrigo Monteiro, donates the third part of her assets as an entail to her son, Bartolomeu Rodrigues Monteiro, also called Bartolomeu Rodrigues de Sousa, on the occasion of his wedding to D. Isabel da Cunha, with an obligation of a weekly mass in her burial place. The properties shall pass to one of her son's heirs. Bartolomeu Rodrigues Monteiro is present and accepts these conditions.

Dowry deed by Ana Gonçalves, Isabel Fernandes, sisters, and Roque Gonçalves da Costa to Manuel Vaz Carreiro, son of Roque Gonçalves da Costa, to marry Maria de Sousa de Benevides, niece of Ana Gonçalves and Isabel Fernandes. Ana Gonçalves and Isabel Fernandes put aside, at the time of their deaths, two moios of income from their real estate to found two chapels for their souls and appoint as their administrator the son or daughter of Manuel Vaz Carreiro and Maria de Sousa de Benevides as, appointed by his or her father. In turn, Roque Gonçalves da Costa, in his and his wife's, Águeda Carreiro, name, give their available portions to Manuel Vaz Carreiro and Maria de Sousa de Benevides, with the pious obligation of a chapel of masses for their souls. The son can appoint as his successor who he wants. Besides, Roque Gonçalves da Costa appoints his son as administrator of the chapel of António Cabral Teixeira.

Dowry deed by Manuel Martins Brandão to his niece, D. Antónia Brandão, to marry to Inácio Bettencourt e Câmara, giving them 30.000 cruzados and, after his death, all his assets as an entail of perpetual succession. After the couple's death, their eldest male son will succeed in this entail. He also orders the celebration of a chanted mass in the chapel of the church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Funchal. Manuel Martins Brandão declares that D. Antónia Brandão will administrate too the assets, located in Campanário, belonging to the chapel founded by Domingos Fernandes. Inácio de Bettencourt e Câmara accepted this dowry and he and D. Antónia Brandão committed themselves to fulfil all its clauses, conditions and obligations.

Dowry deed by which Manuel Peres and his wife Maria Ribeiro endowed the institutor's legitimate son Paulo Ambrósio to marry his cousin Maria Caldeira, daughter of Heitor Caldeira and Luísa Correia, brother and sister-in-law of Manuel Peres. The dowry valued 4 000 cruzados and the assets should be entailed to a chapel located in Évora. Maria Ribeiro endowed the bride and groom with all the assets she possessed at the time of her death, which should be entailed to a chapel and annexed to the other assets. She also ordered that her gold, silver and other movable possessions should be sold and that should be entailed immovable goods. The charges would also be determined in her will.

Dowry deed made by Catarina Velez in which she endowed Francisco Cáceres, her son-in-law, with an estate named Quinta do Açor, with the condition that his daughter and her granddaughter Violante de Abreu would marry a person of clean blood who could not belong to the Ramos family. She also founded an entail to be administrated by Violante and her eldest male heirs after her, with a perpetual mass obligation of three masses celebrated every year. She also appointed administrators for four chapels she administrated. For the chapel of Santana, she named her granddaughter Catarina. She named her grandchildren Maria, Manuel and João to the administration of the other three chapels.

Dowry deed made by João de Meira Carrilho, in which he instituted an entail to his niece and appointed her as successor in the entail founded by João de Meira, remembering some the rules of this chapel and entailing the properties he owned in Castelo de Vide along with an image with 21 relics that belonged to the emperor Charles V.

Dowry deed between Maria Figueira de Gouveia and D. António da Silva and D. Ana Maria de Vilhegas, his wife, represented by licenciado Francisco de Figueiredo Cabral, their attorney-in-fact, to marry D. Isabel Queimada de Vilalobos, daughter of Maria Figueira de Gouveia, to D. Manuel da Silva Vilhegas, son of D. António da Silva and D. Ana Maria de Vilhegas, giving them their real estate and founding an entail. After the death of D. Isabel Queimada de Vilalobos and D. Manuel da Silva Vilhegas will succeed in this entail their eldest male son. D. Isabel Queimada de Vilalobos and Francisco de Figueiredo Cabral, on behalf of D. Manuel da Silva Vilhegas, accepted this dowry and entail.

Dowry deed by which Miguel de Azevedo de Ataíde's sons, acting as his attorneys, granted Bento de Azevedo several estates for his marriage with Luísa da Fonseca. These estates should be entailed, with pious obligations, and be transmitted to Bento's offspring.
