He left all those properties and houses in Lisboa to his brother, Lourenço Afonso, determining that they had to be transmitted to his eldest legitimate son and subsequently passed to his descendants. His brother was asked to give, each year, 100 libras to an unidentified church for the souls of D. Sancha and D. Goutinha, their aunts.

Will (extract) made by Francisco Dias Delgado and his wife Catarina Moreira, in which they have ordered the foundation of an entail and chapel in the convent of Santo António of Ipojuca, devoted to Nossa Senhora da Conceição, with a perpetual pious obligation of two masses celebrated in every week as long as the world lasted. The entail would be composed of a grange that they possessed in Porto de Galinhas, with some fishing sites, houses and also thirty calving cows, that should be perpetually maintained in this quantity. They left detailed instructions for the ornates of the chapel that should have an altarpiece in stone and an image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, being ornate with the liturgical colors: white, red, purple and green. The administrators would be henceforth obliged to deliver 10.000 réis to the convent in every year in order to sustain the masses and keep the chapel's ornates. To administrate it, they named their son Francisco Dias Delgado during his lifetime and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir. If Francisco had no descendants or died before any of the institutors, the administration would be handled to their granddaughter Joana, daughter of their daughter Ana Mendes and António Freire. If she also had no descendants, the administration would be transmitted to their grandson Manuel, son of Maria Barbosa, their daughter. All administrators would be obliged to live in Pernambuco's captaincy or otherwise lose the administration of the entail. They have also appealed to the authorities the Crown and the Church to surveil the fulfillment of the conditions imposed on this will.

Will (extract) of Gonçalo Dantas, parish priest in Santo André de Gondomar. The testator bequeaths several properties he owned that were to be incorporated into a chapel. The chapel had the perpetual obligation of celebrating a weekly mass every Monday for the benefit of the founder and his descendants. The first administrator would be his brother, Simão Dantas, followed by his descendants, with the exception of illegitimate children. The chaplain would preferably be a relative of the institutor, especially the poorest and least busy cleric of his lineage. Furthermore, Simão Dantas was obliged to register the documents in the "livro dos registos das capelas" in Braga, in order to preserve the information about the property and the pious duties.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz Rodrigues Landeiro established an entail with unspecified assets, determining that its revenues had to support the celebration of 10 annual masses. She designated her nephew, Diogo Rodrigues, almocreve, to administrate it. He had to be succeeded by his eldest son or, if he died without leaving descendants, by the institutor's niece, Constança Lopes.

Will (extract) of Beatriz Rodrigues, founding the chapel of Santa Maria in the church of São Pedro de Terena, appointing as administrator her nephew Rui Palha and his offspring, or alternatively the descendants of Rui’s brother, João Palha. The succession would be by first-born sons, excluding illegitimate children. An image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição was to be painted in the chapel.

Will (extract) of Beatriz Pereira, instituting an entail and appointing her nephew Francisco de Azevedo as administrator, and his son Rui Gomes de Azevedo after his death. The entail was composed of the estates of Guadiana, Zambujeiro, Murtais, the orchard of Paraíso and houses in Elvas.

Will (extract) of Diogo Carneiro and Beatriz de Castro, his wife. They instituted a chapel, entailing a third of their assets for the celebration of charges, upon finalising the payment of legacies. Francisco Carneiro de Brito, his son, is appointed first administrator. Beatriz de Castro administered a chapel instituted by Helena de Brito, her aunt, for which she also appoints Francisco Carneiro de Brito, her son, ordering him to annex it to the chapel she instituted with her husband.

Will (extract) by which Henrique Jacques establishes an entail with the third part of his revenue. He bequeaths it to his eldest son, and his descendants thereafter, who shall also annex to the entail their third parts and use the surname Jacques. He asks his wife to also annex her third part to the entail, in the quinta do Vale de Mourelos. He establishes a chapel of three annual masses in the convent or church where he shall be buried. If his descendants die before his wife, the entail shall go to her, until she marries again. If his wife has already died, it shall go to his nephew, also called Henrique Jacques, and to his descendants, with an obligation of 100 annual masses. If these two lineages are extinguished, the entail shall pass to the Misericórdias of Lisboa and of Lagos.

Will (extract) by which Miguel Fernandes and Francisca Fernandes, his wife, establish an entail with the third part of their assets, including houses in Lisboa, whose revenues would support the pious obligation of celebrating annual masses in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. The surviving spouse should be the entail's first administrator. After his/her death, it would be inherited by their son, António.

Will (extract) made by Manuel Lobo Reimão in which he ordered the foundation of a chapel composed of a cotton plantation named Fazenda do Fragoso and twelve enslaved persons, over which he imposed a perpetual pious obligation of certain number of masses. He named his daughter Maria de Deus as first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest legitimate male heir. If she had none, the administration would be handled to her brother António, and if he also died without children, then his brothers Domingos or André da Veiga Reimão, in this order, would enter on the administration. If none of them had children, the chapel would be administrated by the brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Livramento. The institutor also disposed that if any of the slaves entailed to this chapel died, they should be replaced, in order to maintain the original number, and any administrator who freed any enslaved persons would immediatly lose the administration, passing it to the next administrator in line.

Will (extract) by which António da Costa establishes a daily mass for his soul in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Pombinha of the cathedral of Lisboa. He sends Luís Álvares de Vilalobos, husband of his niece, Maria da Costa, 100 000 reis to buy foros to entail to the chapel. Maria da Costa shall have its administration, and her descendants afterwards. If her lineage is extinguished, the administration of the chapel shall be given to the Irmandade e Confraria de Nossa Senhora da Pombinha. If they don't accept it, it shall be given to the Misericórdia de Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Gil Vaz de Pina established a chapel, entailing to it all his remaining assets. He designated his son, Martinho Vaz de Pina, to administrate it, obligating him and his descendants to support the celebration of 10 annual masses for his soul and to give, every year, 10 000 réis to Madre Beatriz Maria da Trindade, during her lifetime. The testator also appointed his son to succeed him in the administration of the chapel founded by Jorge de Pina do Lago, his uncle. He determined that, if his daughter, Sebastiana de Parada, and her husband, António de Azevedo, left no descendants, the farmstead (quinta) of Pousão and other properties which he had given them as dowry had to be entailed to his chapel.

Violante Godinho, his niece, Custódio de Figueiredo's wife, obligating her and her descendants to support the celebration of 10 annual masses for his soul in the church of S. Julião de Lisboa. The testator leaves rents (foros) of wheat in Herdade dos Gregos and Herdade da Aldeia dos Barbudos, Portel, to his sister, D. Isabel Godinho, declaring that, after her death, they should be entailed to his chapel.

Will (extract) by which Simão Gonçalves Preto and his wife Branca founded a chapel, appointing their son Filipe Godinho Falcão to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of a farm called "Aravia" located in the outskirts of Avis.

Will (extract) by which Cosme Feio, Fernando Feio and Isabel Dias' son, bequeaths the third part of his assets, including lands (casal) in Galés, Mafra, to his daughter, Isabel, obligating her and her descendants to celebrate a mass, each year, on the day of Santa Eulália in the hermitage of Santa Eulália for the souls of his parents. Those properties could never be sold or exchanged for others. The entail must be inherited by the eldest son of Isabel or, if she does not have any children, by the closest male relative of the institutor.

Will (extract) of Vasco Esteves. He leaves the Quinta da Figueira to Vicente Esteves, his brother, with charges, celebrated in the monastery of São Domingos of Lisbon, where he wanted to be buried. After his death, it should be left to his eldest, legitimate son.

Will (extract) by which Manuel Malheiro expresses his wish to be buried next to his first wife, D. Isabel Fernandes, and to his second wife, D. Maria Malheiro de Melo, his niece, in the chapels of Santo António and Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the cathedral of Lisboa. He confirms the institution of an entail which he had established with his first wife in a previous will, entailing to it all his properties in Azambuja, Lisboa and Corroios. He appoints as his heir António Malheiro, his second son from his second marriage, since his first born son from this marriage, José Malheiro de Melo, had died during the writing of the will. His son shall marry one of his cousins, daughter of Gaspar Malheiro, Manuel Malheiro's brother. He establishes an obligation of two daily masses for his own soul and the souls of his two wives. He also explains that he received the two chapels he now possesses from the deão António or Afonso Furtado de Mendonça, who had donated them under the condition that he should build him a tomb in the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and order a weekly mass for his soul.

If their lineages are extinguished these entails shall be annexed to the entail he founded for his eldest son, Martinho de Castro do Rio, with the same conditions. He also bequeaths 40 000 cruzados to Martinho de Castro do Rio, which shall be annexed to the entail he founded for him. Martinho de Castro do Rio must also buy properties to entail to the obligation of masses established in Justa Vaz's codicil, which shall be administered by the successors of his entail.

Will (extract) by which Diogo Mendes Guterres establishes an entail, incorporating in it houses in Rua das Pedras Negras, Lisboa, lands (casal) in Oeiras and the legitimates which he had inherited from his father, Gomes Dias Guterres, and grandfather, Heitor Mendes de Brito. He appoints his son, Luís Mendes, to be its first administrator and asks the executors of his will to buy a chapel in the convent of S. Bento de Xabregas, where he should be buried and there must be celebrated annual masses for his soul. If the convent does not allow that, the executors are free to make a contract with any available church.

Will (extract) made by Pedro Lopes in which he ordered the foundation of an entail and chapel that would be composed of some lands, houses, two bulls, fourty cows and also twenty enslaved persons, over which he imposed a perpetual pious obligation of one mass celebrated every week as long as the world lasted, in the church of Santiago of Ribeira Seca, and also two masses, one of them sung, in All Souls Day. To administrate it, he named Miguel, an illegitimate son, during his lifetime, and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on his eldest legitimate heirs. Henceforth, all adulters and illegitimate children would be excluded from the administration. He disposed explicitly that if one of the tewnty slaves he entailed perished, run away or was "bad" at service, the administrator would be obliged to replace him or her immediatly, and also ordered that all children, male or female, born from the entailed slaves would become immediatly entailed to the chapel.

Will (extract) by which Lopo Sarmento de Carvalho established an entail using his and his late wife Dona Maria de Sequeira's third part, appointing his son Inácio Sarmento de Carvalho to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. This entail is composed of a "reguengo" called "Cravoeira", a farm and an orchard located in Lisboa, and public debt instrument of 100 000 réis in Almoxarifado de Torres Novas.

Will (extract) by which Tomé Rodrigues bequeathed the third part of his assets to his daughter, Leonor Rodrigues, Brás Mendes' wife, obligating her and her descendants to celebrate, each Lent, masses for his soul. She would be succeeded in the entail's administration by one of her children.

Will (extract) by which Francisca Veloso bequeaths her grandson, António da Silveira, and his descendants afterwards, the third part of her assets, composed of houses and a vineyard in Lisboa and 4 000 reis of foro, with the obligation of three sung masses and five masses in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where she shall be buried.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Lopes de Murga declares his intention of being buried in the chapel he was building in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his parents and siblings were also buried. He establishes that properties should be bought for the maintenance of the chapel, with total a revenue of 100 000 reis, and that 12 divine offices and 36 masses should be prayed annually for his, his parents, his siblings and his successors' souls. He appoints his brother, Doutor Francisco Lopes, as the entail's first administrator or, if he is already dead, his other brother, António Lopes de Murga. They shall pay 400 000 reis to another of their brothers, Rui Lopes de Murga.

Will (extract) by which Dinis Gonçalves and his wife, Mécia Dias, unite the third parts of their inheritances, establishing an entail and a chapel in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, with the obligation of two weekly masses and three annual masses. At the time of their death, the administration shall be bequeathed to Brás Soares, Mécia Dias's son and Dinis Gonçalves's stepson, and to his successors.

Will (extract) by which Maria das Neves bequeaths and olive grove in Santa Iria, on the outskirts of Lisboa, to her nephew, Domingos Jorge, determining that him and his descendants must support the celebration of 20 annual masses for her soul in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of that city. At the time of his death, Domingos Jorge should transmit it to his eldest son, who would pass it to his successors. If the former dies childless, the entail has to be inherited by Manuel Antunes, the institutor's nephew and Vicência Antunes' son. The olive grove could never be sold.

Will (extract) by which António Viegas Gentil established an entail, designating his daughter D. Maria Chichorra de Sousa to be its first administrator. She should incorporate her "legítima" and other assets into this entail, under penalty of loosing this succession. In this case, this entail should be succeeded by his nephew Francisco de Lucena. If his daughter accepted his condition, and if she died without heirs, this entail should be succeeded by D. Leonor and her heirs from the second marriage, but she just could marry after her daughter's. The institutor also established that his assets should be used to buy public debt instrument or immovable goods in order to incorporate them into the entail. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses wherever he would be buried. This entail is composed of houses located in Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Antónia de Almada established an entail, with the obligation to order the celebration of two masses in the Convent of São Romão de Alverca for her mother's soul. She also established the celebration of two more masses in the Monastery of Amparo, where she would be buried. The administrator was also obligated to give some wine and oil to the friars of this last Monastery. The successors were obligated to incorporate into this entail 100 000 réis. This entail is composed of a farm of Alfarrrobeira and houses in Lisboa.

Will (extract) in which Pedro Varela entails his houses and properties in Setúbal and bequeaths them to his nephew Miguel Leite Ferreira as dowry for his marriage to D. Leonor de Távora. Miguel Leite is obliged to give 5 000 réis annually to the priests of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa for the fulfilment of perpetual pious charges for his uncle’s soul and other family members. If the testator is buried in another place before being transferred to this convent, in the meantime, the amount paid and the celebrations established should take place at that location.
Pedro Varela also requires that his nephew assures the fulfilment of pious charges for the soul of his first wife Isabel de Paiva Estocha Serrão, who is buried in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Lisboa, and for her family members.

Will (extract) by which Florência de Albuquerque established an entail with a farmstead (quinta) in Alfeite, lands in Almada, properties (casal) in Trajouce, Cascais and houses in bairro dos Escolares and Portas do Sol, Lisboa, thus fulfilling the will she and her late husband, Jorge Cotão, had previously made. She designated her niece, Andresa de Albuquerque, and her husband, Jerónimo Pires, to administrate it, obligating them and their descendants to support the celebration of annual masses in the church of S. Brás and to maintain a lamp lit in their chapel. After their deaths, the entail would be inherited by their eldest son or daughter.

Will (extract) by which Catarina Álvares, João Fernandes' widow, asked the executor to buy a property in Lisboa, which must be delivered to Joana Henriques, her niece, Bernardo Rodrigues' eldest daughter. She and her successors were obligated to support the celebration of annual masses for her soul in the church of S. Miguel of Alfama, where the testator's body would be buried. After Joana Henriques' death, the entail would be inherited by the eldest son of Duarte Gonçalves, the testator's nephew, and transmitted to his descendants.

Will (extract) by which Gonçalo Martins establishes a chapel in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa, entailing to it his farmstead (quinta) in Torres Vedras and lands (casais) in Rendide. He designates José Correia, Filipe Correia and Maria de Abreu de Faria's eldest son, to administrate it, determining that him and his descendants must support the celebration of a daily perpetual mass for his soul in that church. The testators order the inventory of the entail’s properties in a tombo, with a copy staying with the entail’s administrator and the other with the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento. They add that the masses in the church of Colares should be said by a son of Catarina’s uncle Manuel Brás if he becomes a clergyman.

He was required to fulfil pious obligations for the institutor’s soul and to pay an annual sum of 10 000 réis to the convent. The priests would receive properties near Beirolas and in Salvaterra, as well as the amount paid by Martim Cota and his descendants. These assets were to be entailed and the conditions and alternatives of their transmission are specified.

If her nephew doesn't have any heirs, the entail shall pass to his brother, Gabriel de França Rolim, and his descendants, or to D. Ana de Meneses, wife of Martinho Ferreira da Câmara and niece of D. He was due to order the celebration of masses for her and her daughter D. Catarina de Guimarães' soul. This entail is composed of "casais" called "Garcia Mougo" and lands located in Torres Novas. After her son's death, it should succedd her son Sebastião de Guimarães and his legitimate heirs. If he died without heirs, it should succeed D. Catarina de Guimarães, a nun.

Will (extract) by which Maria Brandão bequeaths houses in Rua dos Escudeiros, Lisboa, to her brother, Diogo Brandão, determining that he and his descendants must support the celebration of 20 annual masses and an anniversary mass for her soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of that city. If her brother leaves no descendants or decides to become a friar, the entail should be inherited by Beatriz Brandão, the testator's sister.

Will (extract) by which Antónia de Lemos bequeaths the part of his mother's inheritance and a rent (foro) of 40 000 réis in houses in Rua do Hospital dos Palmeiros to her brother, José de Lemos, with the obligation of supporting the celebration of 2 weekly masses for the soul of their sister in the church of Santa Maria Madalena of Lisboa. After her brother's death, the entail should be passed to one of his legitimate children. If he dies childless, it must be inherited by her grand-niece, Mónica. The testator also leaves part of a house in Rua da Porta do Ferro to Maria, her grand-niece, and another house in Rua do Armazém Velho to Catarina, her other grand-niece, obligating both of them to support the celebration of weekly masses for her soul.

Will (extract) by which Gaspar Garcês established an entail with a farmstead in Caldas da Rainha ("quinta do Formigal"), rents (foros) and vineyards in Óbidos and Coutos de Alcobaça, incorporating in it the third part of his late wife's assets, Francisca do Carvalhal, and the legitimate part of his late son, Manuel Garcês. He designated his grandson, Manuel Garcês, to administrate it. If he died without leaving descendants, it would be transmitted to the granddaughter of the institutor, D. Maria. The administrators were obligated to maintain the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, which the institutor erected in his farmstead, and to support the celebration of an annual mass every September 8.
He also appointed his grandson to receive the office of Escrivão da Alfândega de Lisboa, as it was allowed by the King.
The testator declared that he had made a previous will in which he had instituted an entail with his farmstead, appointing his son, Manuel Garcês, to administrate it. He was obligated to support the celebration of 13 annual masses in the altar of the crucifix of the church of Nossa Senhora do Loreto. His son and D. Madalena, his wife, agreed with the terms of the deed. However, Manuel Garcês had died without being able to inherit it.

Will (extract) by which Luís de Atouguia, Inês Álvares' husband, establishes an entail with the third part of his assets, which comprises a farmstead (quinta) in Alcântara and properties in Beja, designating Manuel de Atouguia, his son, to administrate it. The latter must transmit it to his eldest son. The future administrators of the entail are obligated to support the celebration of 4 annual masses for the institutor's soul in the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Lisboa.

Will (extract) of Rui de Figueiredo and D. Maria, his wife, founding an entail and a chapel with their available portions, consisting of properties in Torres Vedras and Lisboa, and appointing Henrique de Figueiredo, their second son, to succeed them, with the pious obligation of a mass in the chapel of Nossa Senhora in the monastery of S. Bento of Xabregas, Lisboa.

Will (extract) by Ana da Silva, by which she declared that the remaining assets of inheritance, movable and imovable property, were to be entailed in a chapel "à maneira de morgado", with obligations of masses in the monastery of São Francisco of Elvas. The first administrator would be her nephew Fernando Lopes, son of her sister Beatriz Silva and Nicolau Pessanha. Illegitimate children were excluded from the administration of the entail.

Will (extract) by which Isabel Coelho establishes an entail with her estate of casal de Vila Seca, with the obligation of 10 annual masses in the church of Misericórdia, in Braga. She appoints her nephew António de Araújo Coelho as administrator of the entail instituted by herself and her husband.

Will (extract) by which Pedro da Silva, bispo do Brasil, established a chapel, designating his niece D. Micaela da Silva, daughter of his eldest brothers, to be its first administrator. The institutor wanted that all his movable goods and his houses in Bahia would be sold in order to buy others for this chapel. The administrator was due to order the celebration of masses, that should be said by a chaplain. After the administrator’s death, it should succeed her son Silvério and, in his absence, another daughter of Micaela. If there were no heirs of the family, it should succeed the eldest servant, or the eldest maid of his house.

Will (extract) by which Martinho Lourenço established an entail using the third part of his immovable goods, designating his son Gil Martins to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa. The successors are obligated to add the third part of their immovable goods to the entail.

Will (extract) of António Pires Pinto appointing Diogo Homem Pinto as administrator of the chapel and ordering that all the entailed estates should be registered in an inventory.

Will (extract) by which Maria de Távora established an entail, appointing her husband Fernando Ortiz to be its first administrator on the condition that he does not remarry. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Lisboa.

Will (extract) by which Simão Gonçalves Preto and his wife Branca established an entail, appointing their eldest son Francisco Gonçalves Preto to be its first administrator. He was due to order the celebration of masses in the church where they will be buried. This entail is composed of a farm called "Auroa" and houses located in Évora.

Will (extract) by which Maria da Fonseca entails her properties in Santiago do Cacém with an obligation of 26 annual masses in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa. She designates her nephew, Manuel Corvo, son of her cousin Luísa Adães and of Martinho Viegas, as first administrator of her chapel, and his descendants afterwards.

Will (extract) by which Beatriz Brandão established an entail, designating her niece Maria de Almeida to be its first administrator. She was due to order the celebration of masses for her and her husband's soul in the Convent of Santo António da Lourinhã. The institutor also established the obligation to donate money to "merceeiras" and for the oil of the candles. If her niece died without heirs, it should succeed her sister Luísa de Almeida, and if her sister died without heirs it should succeed their brother Francisco Serrão. This entail is composed of farm located in the outskirts of Torre Vedras, houses in Lisboa and a "casal" in Alenquer.

Will chart (extract) of Rui de Carvalho, in which an entail is established, with a third of his assets. Appoints Bernardo Carvalho as first administrator and the latter's son Rui de Carvalho as second administrator.

Will chart (extract) of Luís Carreiro de Abreu. Establishes a chapel, entailing assets to fulfill charges, celebrated in the chapel of São Gonçalo, in the church of Nossa Senhora de Triana in Alenquer. He appoints Inês de Aguiar, his sister-in-law, the first administrator. Brás de Araújo de Valadares, his nephew should succeed her.

Will chart by which António Sanches wanted to be buried in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Lisboa. He established an entail, incorporating some houses, a "casal" and a "marinha" located in Lisboa, in order to fulfil the pious obligations in that church. This entail should be administrated by his nephew Pedro de Faria and, after his death, by his son or daughter. If he did not have children, the administration would be attached to the other entail he founded. In addition, he entailed different assets for the celebration of masses in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Lisboa, that should be administrated by Violante Maria. The successors must be descendants of Bartolomeu Sanches or António Sanches, nephews of the institutor. If there were no legitimate children, the administration should be attached to the other entail he founded.

Will chart by which João Rodrigues de Leão, Cavaleiro Fidalgo da Casa do Rei, establishes a chapel in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. He declares that he had previously made an agreement with its prior and friars, by which he promised to give them a public debt instrument of 24 000 réis in exchange for the celebration of annual masses for his soul and that of his wife. Nevertheless, it was still necessary to make a contract with the convent, which he urges his heirs to do. He appoints his wife, Inês Lopes, as the entail's first administrator, bequeathing her part of his assets which should be incorporated in it. He obligates her and her descendants to give, each year, 4 000 réis to that convent in order to assure the chapel's maintenance; to check the state of its ornaments; to donate 10 000 réis to the convent of S. Domingos and S. Francisco of Lisboa, each Holy Thursday. The testator allows his wife to choose one of her nephews or nieces to be her successor, as long as he/she resides in Lisboa. He demands his remains to be buried inside his chapel.
Followed by an approval deed, issued on 1582-05-17, and an opening deed, issued on 1582-05-23.

Will chart by which Doutor Pedro Nunes de Soutomaior bequeaths all his assets to João Lourenço, his relative, obligating him and his successors to maintain two chaplains, who should celebrate annual masses for his soul and the souls of his parents in the church of Santa Maria of Oeiras and in the church of São Martinho of Sintra. He declares that, two years after his death, his remains should be transported to the church of São Martinho, where his grandfather's bones were deposited.

Will chart of Belchior da Costa. He was the administrator of two chapels, one instituted by Francisco Vaz de Sousa and Ana da Costa, his parents, and another instituted by his grandparents. He joins the two chapels, annexing other assets and increasing the charges. He appoints Ana da Costa, his sister, and António de Sousa, his nephew, executors and administrators, who were to appoint the son they wanted to succeed them.

Will chart by which Maria Bárbara wanted to be buried in the Church of São Francisco de Portel. She established an entail in the village of Portel, incorporating assets to fulfill the pious charges. She designated her sister Catarina Mendes Barbosa to be its first administrator, and Francisco Barbosa and his eldest son should succeed her. This entail is composed of part of the "herdade do Cabouco" with its houses in Monte do Trigo; the "herdade do Jesus", in the parish of São João; the "herdade da Fornalha", in the parish of Santa Ana; and olive groves and lands in Valverde.

Will chart of Doutor Rui Gago de Andrade and Catarina de Brito, his wife. They entail assets to fulfill charges. They appoint D. Catarina, daughter of Estêvão Gago de Andrade and of D. Guiomar de Brito, their niece, as first administrator. Her eldest son was to succeed her.

Will chart by which Cosme Bernardes expresses his wish to be buried in the church of S. João, where his wife, Isabel Serrão, is buried, and where he orders a chapel to be built. He establishes an entail with his properties, to which he annexes the third part of his wife, Isabel Serrão, and the third part of his mother, Beatriz Gomes. He designates Francisca Dias, his cousin, wife of Manuel Ribeiro, as first administrator. Her son Diogo Ribeiro was to succeed her, and then his eldest son. They shall order the masses established by Beatriz Gomes in the monastery of Santíssima Trindade of Lisboa and two weekly masses and an annual one in the church of S. João, where Cosme Bernardes and his wife are buried.

Will chart made by Jorge Caldeira Tavares in which he ordered the foundation of an entail composed of an estate named Herdade da Reterta and other estates in Portalegre's outskirts, over which he imposed a perpetual pious obligation of three masses celebrated every year. To administrate it he named his son Diogo Caldeira during his lifetime, and, after his death, the succession should always continue, preferably, on the eldest male heir, or, if he had none, on the closest relative. Clerics and illegitimate sons were excluded from the administration, as well as any administrator convicted with lese-majesty crimes.

Will through which Doutor Gaspar Vaz Rebelo, Desembargador do Paço, establishes two entails, with the assets he owned in Lisboa and Évora, appointing his two sons, Francisco Rebelo and Manuel Vaz Rebelo, as first administrators of those institutions. If neither of them survived, or had descendants, both of the entails would be inherited by Gaspar de Figueira, the testator's nephew. He instituted pious obligations of celebrating annual masses in the chapel of Jesus, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa, and in his chapel, in the church of the convent of S. Domingos of Évora. He chooses to be temporarily buried in the convent of S. Domingos of Lisboa. After his flesh disappeared, his bones should be transferred to the grave he had inside his chapel, in the convent of S. Domingos of Évora.

Will chart made by Beatriz Rodrigues in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of fifteen masses celebrated every year in the convent of Santo Agostinho, in Arronches. She appointed Baltasar Rodrigues to be the first administrator during his lifetime. From there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest, legitimate and male heir.

Will chart by which D. Afonso de Castelo Branco, Meirinho-mor do Reino, and his wife, D. Isabel de Castro, established an entail with the third part of their assets, which included houses in Évora, determining that it should be annexed to the entail instituted by D. Guiomar de Noronha ("morgado de Montalvo") and administrated by their eldest son. Therefore, it would be transmitted according to the clauses of its foundation deed. However, if they were unable of bearing a son, their entail would not be attached to the one founded by Guiomar de Noronha. Instead it would be administrated by the institutor's eldest daughter, D. Maria de Castro, and her husband, D. Garcia de Meneses, and transmitted to their descendants. They also incorporated a tapestry in their entail and a rent (foro) of wheat taken from a property in Serpa to Guiomar de Noronha's entail, which they administrated. They declared that their bodies would be buried in the main chapel of the convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo of Moura. Followed by an approval deed issued on 1556-08-25.

Will chart of Lourenço da Costa, ordering his grave in the mother church of the place where he died. He instituted an entail, entailing assets to fulfill the charges. He appoints Álvaro da Costa, his nephew, as administrator, after the death of the institutor and Maria da Costa, his sister, followed by their children. If he died childless, he would stay with Isabel da Costa, his sister. In case of non-compliance, he would remain in the Misericórdia of the place where he was buried.

Will chart of Catarina Botelho de Castelo Branco, in which she appoints Belchior Botelho, her cousin, as her heir and executor. She orders her grave in the monastery of São Francisco of Elvas and institutes a chapel, by entailing assets to fulfill the charges, to be administrated by António de Figueiredo, his nephew, and then by a legitimate son of his choice. In the absence of the descendants, the chapel should be administered by the Misericórdia of Elvas.
In addition, she institutes another chapel, entailing assets to fulfil the charges, to be administrated by the executor of her will, and then by the Misericórdia of Elvas.
Follows the respective approval deed (dated 1602-03-08).

Will chart by which the priest Domingos Fernandes wanted to be buried in the church of São João das Lampas, in his parents' grave. He incorporated several immovable goods for the fulfillment of charges in that church. The institutor designated his nephew Domingos Batista to be its first administrator and the following administrator should be his son. He also left to Pedro Fernandes and his wife Francisca Fernandes with the same conditions as the previous ones, and their daughter Maria should succeed them.

Will chart of Fernando Álvares, ordering his grave in the church of São Lourenço [de Azeitão], in the grave of Gomes Álvares, his father. He entails two vineyards and a few houses to create an albergue for pilgrims in the village of Freixo, on the outskirts of Sesimbra, and appoints António Álvares, his son, as first administrator. This one had to appoint the son or grandson that he wanted to succeed him.

Will chart by which Antónia de Almeida established a chapel in the Altar of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, in the Convent of São Paulo de Elvas, entailing assets in order to fulfill the pious charges. She designated her uncle Frei Manuel de Santiago to be its first administrator and, after his death, her niece Margarida, daughter of Inês de Almeida and Manuel Fernandes Cartaxo, and her legitimate heirs.

Will chart by which Manuel Fagundes Bezerra established an entail with the obligation to celebrate masses. He designated his nephew Jacinto Fagundes Bezerra to be the first administrator and, after his death, he should be succeeded by his eldest son.

Will chart by which Antónia Vaz Chama established an entail, designating her nephew António Chama and her sisters Maria Chama and Francisca Chama to be its first administrators. The administration should rotate between them and, after their deaths, it should succeed the eldest son of Maria Chama.

Will chart of Pedro Botelho da Fonseca and his wife Catarina Moreira de Araújo founding an entail with assets in Baía, Brazil, and masses in Lisbon. They provide 5.500 cruzados to the chapel. They appoint the one of them who survives for the administration of the entail, and after them Maria da Fonseca, niece of Pedro Botelho da Fonseca, and if she doesn't have descendants must succeed the Misericórdia of Lisbon.

Will chart by which João Rodrigues Caixeiro designated his niece Antónia da Cruz to be his universal heiress, leaving her in charge of the pious obligations.

Will chart by which António de Oliveira and his wife Bárbara Vicente wanted to be buried in the church of Chagas. They established an entail, incorporating the third part of their assets for the fulfillment of the pious charges. They designated their son Luís de Oliveira to be its first administrator and, after his death, his eldest son. If he did not return from India within 4 years, he could not possess this administration, which should be transferred to his sister Maria de Oliveira.

Will chart of Nuno Martins Segurado. He leaves the Cruzeiro de Alagoa's farm, on the outskirts of Arruda dos Vinhos, and several other assets, to Helena Martins Segurado, his daughter, with associated charges. He leaves the Lagoa's farm, and several other assets, to João Martins Segurado, his son, with associated charges.

Will chart of padre Luís de Figueiroa de Vasconcelos Castelo Branco, by which he orders his grave in the monastery of São Francisco do Porto and entails several farmhouses (casais), located in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, to fulfill charges. He appoints António de Figueiroa, as first administrator of his entail, to be succeeded by his eldest son. He annexes this entail to the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, located in the church of São Pedro de Miragaia, established by Bárbara Pires de Figueiroa.

Will chart made by Bernardo da Fonseca de Castelo Branco, in which he confirms the clauses and conditions of the previous will chart, made with Isabel Zuzarte, his wife, now deceased. He also clarifies some aspects of succession.

Will made by António Zuzarte de Sousa, in which he establishes an entail with the fourth parts left by his parents in their wills, with his own part and the part of his sister, Beatriz de Velez. The entail will have an obligation of two annual masses in the convent of São Francisco of Portalegre. He designates Manuel, his son, as first administrator, to be succeded by his descendants.

Will chart made by Maria Correia in which she ordered, among other dispositions, the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of four masses celebrated every year in Portalegre. The institutor named Catarina, her niece, daughter of Pedro Vaz and Isabel Martins, as first administrator during her lifetime. From there on the succession should continue, preferably, on the eldest female heir.

Will chart made by Beatriz da Mota Tavares in which she ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of a mass celebrated every year in Portalegre. She appointed Beatriz da Mota to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by her legitimate son.
She also ordered the foundation of another chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of three masses celebrated every year in Portalegre. She appointed Manuel da Mota to be the first administrator during his lifetime and, after his death, he shall be succeeded by his legitimate son.

Will chart made by António Ribeiro de Tavares in which he ordered the foundation of a chapel with a perpetual pious obligation of a mass celebrated every year in Portalegre. He appointed Leonor de Andrade to be the first administrator during her lifetime and, after her death, she shall be succeeded by Rui Pais de Andrade and from there on the succession shall continue, preferably, on the eldest heir, whether male or female. If the illegitimate children of the institutor (Lourenço and Margarida) were legitimated by the king, they would inherit half of the entail.

Will chart of Tristão Vaz da Veiga, of the Conselho do Rei, son de Manuel Cabral da Veiga, and Geral das Causas da Guerra na ilha da Madeira. He establishes an entail with his properties in Lisboa and Graciosa, Açores, and appoints his eldest son, Jerónimo da Veiga, as his universal heir and administrator of the entail. He establishes an obligation of a daily mass and one annual mass in the convent of S. Francisco of Lisboa, where his successors can build a tomb for themselves, with 20 000 reis of alms. If Jerónimo da Veiga doesn't have children, the entail shall go to his brother, Luís da Veiga, if he doesn't become a cleric, or to the lineage of Tristão Vaz da Veiga's brother, Lourenço da Veiga.
